With the men’s football world cup underway and after a UFC event on the White House lawn, the relationship between sport and politics seems especially close in the United States right now. On this episode of After America, Dr Lindsay Owens joins Dr Emma Shortis to discuss World Cup ticket pricing, the consolidation of corporate power in Trump’s America, the impact of the war on Iran on the US economy, and fighting back against efforts to use misinformation about the economy to demonise migrants. Welcome to RetroLogic! I'm Dan Caporello here with Shannon Eno and John Cummins, and Adam Caporello! Intros   But RetroLogic isn't just a podcast. It's a community of retro gamers! - We've got an active, friendly, and free discord. - Giveaways - Contests - AND Dive into our family of Retro podcasts! Like RetroGroove, a music history podcast, and On Topic Retro, a podcast dedicated to 1 video game per episode hosted by our very own John Cummins. - you can find everything at our website retrologic.games   Housekeeping John - New retrologic content coming!   On Topic Retro - Gradius Interstellar Assault for Game Boy The Price Is Retro If this is your first time playing Price Is Retro, here's how we play. I'm going to list off 4 or 5 games and everyone has to guess how much the lot is worth in total. Whoever is closest to the actual value wins that round! Everyone has a list and everyone guesses on each other's list.    At the end, the player that won the most rounds wins the episode! But watch out for the robot Deus Guess Machina! He averages all of our guesses together for his own guess Dinosaur - Leonard - adds up original costs, retail value Ghost - Polterguest - always guesses 300 Shannon's List Dan's List Adam's list John's List Show Topic - remake/remaster/reimagining  Which do you prefer?   What is your favorite game that has had one of these treatments? Third Strongest Mole — 6/13/26, 8:47 AM I'll try to give my condensed thoughts here since I wont' make it onto next week's show. The only remakes that I consider justified are games that truly had potential they failed to live up to. Games that are perfectly good as they are don't need remakes - just ports. While I appreciate keeping classic games available for people who don't have original hardware, ports address that problem in a much more cost effective way - and the "need" for remasters is selling a solution to a problem created by the planned obsolescence of the idea of console generations. We don't actually need new hardware (at least not to play old games)- console makers just need new hardware and software to sell. By all means keep the classics available through reprints and officially licensed emulation. But those aren't new releases and we shouldn't pretend they are. If you really "can't wait to play Ocarina of time again" - plug in the N64, or boot up the NSO app. Community Couch Savannah the Hyena Queen — 6/12/26, 6:59 PM I like remakes, for two reasons. One, they allow a new generation of players to experience an old game with the conveniences of the modern era. And two, they give fans a brand new way to experience their favorite games. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire was the first point for me, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl was the second. That being said, I think Nintendo has been doing too many remakes and updates to old games recently and not enough new ones. But maybe that's just cause I'm not super interested in Star Fox or Ocarina of Time Drex1981 [ARC],  — 6/12/26, 7:04 PM Remakes are tricky things. One of the side they can fix issues that at the time couldn't be addressed. They can expand on storylines and tell the story with more detail. They can introduce new players to these games and create new fans. On the other side they can be souless cash grabs and change what makes these games great. MooseGooseNinja [SEAF],  — 6/12/26, 7:18 PM I like remakes as long as they do the original game justice (looking at RE3R), but otherwise I do like the idea of remakes for the same reasons Savannah mentions. I generally try to judge remakes on a case-by-case basis though, and my personal favorite part of remakes is playing both versions (if I can get my hands on the original) and comparing and contrasting the two. I also try not to decide which is better or anything, but just objectively finding differences. It was the most fun for RE4 because I LOVE those games. My favorite game that got a remake was probably Dead Space. DoubleD — 6/12/26, 8:57 PM I've been mulling this over for a bit now and I think I like remasters the most. Making older games accessible to a new audience while improving the graphics and QoL features will get me every time (Don't ask me how many versions of the various Final Fantasy games I've bought through the years). Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is probably my favorite remaster though. It kept one of my favorite games mostly the same but added amazing voice acting that let me experience one of my favorite video game stories in a completely different way! Your Wallet's Defense Attorney — 6/13/26, 12:16 AM I prefer remakes that change stuff more than faithful remakes. They are more interesting to analyze, and they provide more of a reason to play them if you have access to the original. Solo [nDAD],  — 6/13/26, 8:37 AM I welcome a remaster of the game. The trend now in console camps is to remaster games to bring them into the contemporary level of graphics and/or new art design to make them more appealing to new generation of gamers. OoT is a cherished entry into the Zelda series. Off of this one entry we get the branches into the Downfall causing BoTW/ToTK, Child and Adult timelines of Zelda lore. Would be interesting if in the remaster then made methods to connect the game to others; for example the lore we see in BoTW/ToTK that many have played (even those that are not deep dive Zelda fanboys and just played off IP recognition alone). Hoping myself the remaster is not a lockstep redo of the original since that version is already out there. I find it more exciting if they were to add new story beat elements into a new artwork scheme. adam — 6/13/26, 9:25 AM i find the discourse around remakes and remasters to be kind of pointless, because if you don't like them, just don't play them.   is there a conversation to be had about companies rereleasing games instead of taking risks on new ips? yeah absolutely. but i think that's different then should these remakes/remasters exist.   emulation and ports are important in the preservation of media, but remakes/remasters   update games to be more accessible on modern hardware.   remakes/remasters recontextualize their stories into the modern broader canon.   i think people are excited to play oot remake/remaster because of the first two reasons. i don't think anyone would pretend that the z targeting and camera controls in the original are good. (innovative for the time but obviously not great in comparison to today) so updated qol features, coupled with excitement to see how they will recontextualize oot to better fit with the current branch of botw/totk, and hopefully give us a glimpse of what's to come next   (In response to adam) Your Wallet's Defense Attorney — 7:56 AM People get annoyed about remakes because of the opportunity cost. Time you take developing a remake/remaster is time you could have spent developing something new. So there are some stakes to the discussion. Also, as a community based around gaming, we like talking about games. So we wanna talk about whether remakes/remasters are interesting to us, and listen to how other like minded people feel about them. The discussion itself is often the point. (Adam thinks the opportunity cost argument doesn't hold water because plenty of studios are able to output both) (Flightsy says there is STILL an opportunity cost. And resources were spent) (Adam responds) adam — 12:16 PM I can't recall a situation where a new game or a game that's in development was sidelined by a remake/remaster. if anything the remakes and remasters make studios more money to put into new titles.   …   but like i said i think really the bigger issue in the industry is the live service model/microtransactions being pushed by suits in c-suites. it's why naughty dog hasn't dropped anything, it's why xbox is in such a bad spot financially. *and then to fill the void of canceled games companies just rerelease or remaster something   …   i think it's an interesting topic, and i think that the recent uptick in remakes/remasters is a barometer for the health of the current industry. and if it's good or bad is up to interpretation, or more likely somewhere in the middle Xomber — 1:35 PM Have mixed feelings on remakes. Some games are just classics and it doesn't really do much to put a fresh coat of paint on a classic. I will still play them, however, hence the mixed feelings. Like when Last of Us 2 was remade on the PS5, it seemed, pointless to me, but since I hadn't played it up until that point that'd be the option I would go with. I still like good games being remade to a certain extent, but are we going to do that every 5-10 years or every 2-3 generations? Xomber — 1:39 PM Another thing I wonder, would a remake make some bad games good? I'm curious about that. Could a story be fleshed out more, or an annoying game mechanic be improved to where it's not cumbersome? That's what actually interests me. Flightsy: I was definitely disappointed by the OOT remake announcement, and in general by the large amount of old content on the Switch 2. But in the end, that's not actually what I'm disappointed about. I'm disappointed that a year in, I still don't really feel compelled to buy the Switch 2. I'm annoyed about the remasters because it reminds me of that core issue, but it isn't actually the issue itself. And there's no way to know if a decision not to make those remasters would have actually led to a world that fixes that issue… Thanks for listening to the RetroLogic Podcast! Just roaming the isles and looking at cover art was a joy in and of itself. There was no way to have a bad weekend when you went home with Fievel Goes West, Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle, and a bottle of Yoo-Hoo. If I had to guess I'd say my most rented games were Ducktales and A Link to the Past. When I was a kid video games were always a side thing we did on the weekends and typically it was a sleep over. so friday evening my buddies and i would ride our bikes down to the local blockbuster and rented a couple games then hit up the local store for sodas and pizza before going back to my place and playing an all nighter. Typically it was stuff like 007, mario kart, perfect dark nfl blitz and such.   Xomber — 4/19/2026 10:01 AMSunday, April 19, 2026 10:01 AM My first rentals were N64 games as well. We rented games mainly from NES, SNES, and N64, but I have the fondest memories of the SNES era. I remember renting Final Fantasy 3 for a couple weeks when it first released, knowing full well that I was about to get it for my birthday a couple months afterwards. Well, I got to a point in the game where it seems like it's the end, but it's really just the mid-point, but I remember being so mad thinking I was about to beat the game right before I get it for my birthday. After opening up the second half of the game, I was so happy that there was more to it, that I stupidly rented the game for another week, but still didn't beat it. I then got it for my birthday and tried to trade my copy for the rental store's, but they wouldn't do it, so I spent the entire Christmas break playing through my new copy and beat it in 2 weeks.   Thanks for listening to the RetroLogic Podcast! Investors' Insights and Market Updates

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 13, 2026 4:58

Technology Sector and Market Valuations Recent market volatility has led to increased analysis across key sectors, particularly technology. For several years, there have been concerns that the technology sector was overvalued, raising the risk that a correction could negatively impact the broader market. However, recent market movements have helped reset valuations. Forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios for technology stocks have declined significantly, from around 40 to approximately 20, bringing them more in line with the broader market. This shift is important because forward P/E is a key indicator used to assess whether stocks are overvalued or undervalued based on expected future growth rather than past performance. Despite this decline in valuations, earnings growth in the technology sector is still projected to remain strong, with expectations in the mid-teens or higher. This combination of lower valuations and continued earnings growth may attract new investment into the sector. As technology represents a significant portion of the overall market, renewed investor interest could help offset broader market weakness and support overall market stability. Inflation, Energy Prices, and Consumer Impact The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showed a notable increase in inflation during March, with a 0.9% rise month over month. A significant portion of this increase, more than three-quarters, was driven by an 11% surge in energy prices. While rising energy costs are impactful, it is important to understand how they affect overall consumer spending. When a larger share of income is allocated to fuel, consumers are often forced to reduce spending in other areas. This concept, known as “demand destruction,” occurs when higher prices in one category lead to decreased demand in others. This trend was evident in the most recent data. Outside of energy, a substantial number of goods within the CPI actually saw price declines, with roughly 40% of tracked items decreasing in price. Additionally, recent credit card spending data shows an overall increase in consumer spending, but a disproportionate share, about 40%, has been directed toward gasoline purchases. While consumers may temporarily absorb these higher costs, particularly with the support of tax refunds, the longer-term effect is reduced flexibility in spending. If elevated energy prices persist, this shift could lead to continued strength in the energy sector while creating weakness in other areas of the economy. Geopolitical Tensions and Oil Supply Risks Ongoing geopolitical developments, particularly involving Iran and the United States, continue to play a critical role in energy markets. While initial expectations suggested a short-term conflict lasting four to six weeks, and some de-escalation has occurred, no permanent agreement has been reached. As a result, attention remains focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which approximately 20% of the world's oil supply passes. Control and restrictions in this region have created ongoing uncertainty in oil distribution. Iran has demonstrated its ability to influence the flow of oil through the strait, at times limiting access while allowing selective shipments. Meanwhile, U.S. efforts to impose additional restrictions further complicate the situation. This dynamic creates the potential for reduced oil supply over an extended period. If these constraints persist, oil prices may remain elevated for longer than initially anticipated. This could further contribute to the demand destruction discussed earlier, as consumers and businesses continue to adjust to higher energy costs. The situation remains fluid, and its impact on both energy markets and the broader economy will depend on future geopolitical developments. All locations take place on 1 Island, and they never lose that aesthetic. But each world also has its own striking identity. 2 - "What are we going to do to Mario so it feels different from 64?" Give him a water gun/jet pack/rocket/speed boat. And the Splatoon-like muck cleaning is one of the most satisfying things in gaming to date. 3 - the major complaint I hear about this game is the few difficulty spikes which inform the unfinished nature of the shipped product. And I don't disagree. But I believe this game is worth more than the sum of it's parts. Isle Delphino is a place I want to live in. The secrets hiding in Delphino Plaza alone make this game worth playing. Your Wallet's Defense Attorney — 4/3/2026 12:33 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 12:33 AM Gotta go with Galaxy.  My first 3D Mario was Super Mario Galaxy 2.  For a long time the original Super Mario Galaxy was a game I had only gotten to play once, through the library.  Which definitely added to the mystique of the game.  The quiet moments in that game really make it's vibe, and they're something I think the Galaxy movie could have used.  Also, the gravity stuff is probably my favorite mechanic in any Mario game.   Gotta give some flowers to Sunshine though.  Not my favorite game to actually play, but I love a lot of what it was going for.  I love the interconnected world, and the fact they decided to zoom in really close to one theme.  Really think it'd be cool to see another Mario game do something like that, maybe with a city or something like that?  Also, you won't hear many people give the blue coins a lotta love, cause they were implemented in such a completionist unfriendly way.  And as a completionist, that does suck, but I can't deny that they really give you a nice reason to explore the island.  Also, I really like that each of the levels tries to tell a storyline with its missions.  Almost feels like a precursor to what Odyssey would end up doing.   neoprime33 (TimA) [nDAD], nDAD — 4/3/2026 1:12 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 1:12 AM The best, I've been told, is Galaxy, but I haven't played those, so the best for me is 3D Land. It's literately in 3D ... lol.    I can't articulate why it is the best for me as well as you all do with your "bests" but that 3D Mario game made me smile and probably was the most I've ever wanted to squeeze out of a Mario game than any other I've played before.    Maybe it is the best for me because it is the "Gateway Drug" for other 3D Marios - it eases me away from 2D Marios. lol   Although, I also support the Mario Sunshine pick - I loved playing that game on the Game Cube. It was so different I didn't care that Mario went 3D.   Hootz — 4/3/2026 9:27 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 9:27 AM Best: Super Mario Odyssey. That game is pure joy distilled into a video game. And honestly, the other games are great, but it's not even close. (Please note; I'm  answering before I've had a chance to play Super Mario Odyssey 2: Donkey Kong Bananza)    As for the next entry, just give us more joy. That's it. Don't know what that means gameplay-wise, so I'll let the developers figure that out.    Also, Super Mario Sunshine is underrated, and better than Super Mario Galaxy and 64. That is all. This isn't a meme coin, penny stock, or hype-driven asset. It's physical silver, exploding against a G7 fiat currency. What's happening in Japan isn't isolated; it's a flashing red warning for the global financial system. In this video, we break down the dramatic 3X surge in silver priced in yen, the collapse of confidence in long-term bonds, and the systemic cracks forming in fiat currencies worldwide. As Japanese Government Bond (JGB) yields rise, capital is repatriating fast. A move that threatens carry trades and stresses global liquidity. When trust in “paper” erodes, real assets like silver take the lead. Learn how your habits and the cash and cards in your wallet reveal your money mindset, then learn how to know when it's time to quit your job. What amount of cash should you keep on hand? Should you “quiet quit” or make a clean break from your job? Hosts Sean Pyles and Elizabeth Ayoola discuss everyday wallet decisions and career change trade-offs to help you understand how everyday money habits and major career choices can strengthen your financial stability. They begin with a candid, “What's in Your Wallet?” segment, revealing what they keep close and providing some tips and throughs on keeping a small emergency cash stash, rotating rewards cards wisely, and avoiding risky wallet habits like storing everything in your car. Then, Tess Vigeland, Smart Money producer and author of Leap: Leaving a Job with No Plan B to Find the Career and Life You Really Want, joins Sean and Elizabeth to help answer a listener's question about whether they should quit their job or simply “quiet quit.” They discuss building a “freedom fund” before quitting, ways to reduce workload without burning bridges, the realities of healthcare and benefits if you leave your job, how today's labor market affects timing, and why giving yourself reflection time can clarify your next step. Card benefits, terms and fees can change. What are your opinions on console iterations? Do you prefer the model of console iteration that we usually get from Nintendo (sometging new and different) or prefer the PS/Xbox (Same but more powerful) route. Also do you like mid generation iterations like pro models or do you usually skip those. Maybe you wait for the pro model lol. Let's us know and we will discuss this on the next show!   5 Ri Sol-ju — 1/24/2025 10:11 AM I prefer mind gen iterations like PS Xbox but I generally get the iterations if there is an improvement on battery or screen. The only one I didn't get was the Steam Deck OLED because it was just a sunk cost of 900 after selling the original, I guess cost also factors in. I usually get everything at launch if available   @Datfast (John) @everyone it's time to dust off the old community couch! Solo — 1/24/2025 10:16 AM Considering how hugely successful the Switch was I am hearing people say Nintendo played it safe and smart with this new console. I don't see that as a bad thing at all as I feel if it is not broke don't try to fix it. The Switch is being modeled by other companies and to have an entry that is more powerful will be great. Would rather have something that brings more games to play better and more 3rd party releases than the next whimsical features they May or may not stick. Can't help but think back to all the comments of the MK1 pics of people saying “but Nintendo fans say graphics don't matter.” Drex1981 — 1/24/2025 10:17 AM The only iteration I was interested in was the DS Lite. That was a massive step up over the regular DS. I could care less about the PS4 pro or PS5 pro. Your Wallet's Defense Attorney — 1/24/2025 3:19 PM I kinda just don't really take notice of them DoubleD — 1/24/2025 3:19 PM I definitely get more excited about Nintendo console iterations, but will also always get the next PlayStation console as well, just because that's where the new games are going to be. I will say that I actually delayed my purchase of the PS5 for a while, because initially there weren't many games that I was interested in that weren't also available on the PS4. Regarding mid gen iterations, it's all about the bang for the buck. When the PS4 Pro came out, I was upgrading my TV to a 4K one, so I was motivated to upgrade to the Pro as well to get the most out of the TV, and was very happy with the decision. I also got a Switch lite during the pandemic because my wife was hogging my Switch with Animal Crossing, but now it's just collecting dust. I never got an OLED Switch, because I primarily play it docked.   @Datfast (John) @everyone it's time to dust off the old community couch! Community Couch All N Eric — Today at 1:16 PM Easily one of my favorite moments was when I got to film all these celebrities giving shoutouts back to my Army unit.   https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpXgLZkwd-s&pp=ygUUV2l6YXJkIGNvbiBzaG91dG91dHM%3D Wizard Con Shoutouts Eric Plunk — Today at 1:23 PM I got to be part of the Nintendo Dads panel to talk about retro gaming at the con in my home town. And by panel I mean just me and Marty Estes  I was also introduced to the girl that voiced Ash from Pokemon. adam — Today at 1:23 PM i was going to origins game fair with my friends, and one of the features of the con was the ability to pitch a board game you designed to publishers with the intent of either getting advice or possibly being picked up by the publisher and have your board game sold.    my friend sam had been developing a game for awhile called ‘go for the krill' a whale themed trick taking card game, and he was planning on pitching it at the convention. while we were in line to get tickets we struck up a conversation with the guy behind us we all hit it off, and it turns out he owned a board game company and he picked up my friends game and it's gonna be launched in the near future!  OctoRock_1982 — Today at 2:07 PM My favorite convention memory is getting to spending time with Dan, John and Trey.    DoubleD — Today at 2:35 PM A good friend and I took our sons to Gamescom 2016 in Cologne, Germany (pictured is the FFXV wristband I still have from the event). It was such an amazing and over the top event, and while I was originally excited for myself, I quickly switched gears and I let my son take over and decide how we spent our time there. It was my first large gaming event like this, so I didn't realize how much time we would spend waiting in line though. My favorite thing there was the Tekken 7 booth, but it was bittersweet, because we waited in line for a while to play it, and then found out that my son was too young and they wouldn't let him play it even though I was his father. Very strange, but still a great experience overall. Your Wallet's Defense Attorney — Today at 2:36 PM I've only ever been to Anime Midwest, and that was more to chaperone my sister.  It was fun tho.  It was really surreal seeing a bunch of people dressed up in cosplay, and it was fun trying to see how many I recognized.  I got a picture with Pepsi Man.  We went to a few panels of varying quality, from a professional samurai to some people who just bought a ton of Kazoos.  We did Karaoke, and I sang Call Me Maybe, The Kirby Right Back At Ya Theme, Bye Bye Baby (Giants home run theme), Full Disclosure (Steven Universe), and Ya Got Trouble (Music Man).  Someone sang Escape from the City (SA2) and the Phineas and Ferb Theme Song.  It was a good time! txTrey — Today at 5:25 PM I took my son to CGF yesterday morning near opening time and he played a demo of a game called Ghost Ship Grannies.  The game is an RPG about a group of grannies who get shipwrecked and you have to find the other grannies and do RPG things.  Then when I obligatorily signed up for the email list after talking to the game's artist I saw 2 lines up on the sheet someone had signed up with the SAME FIRST.LAST@gmail.com address as my son's name!  It was the most coincidental moment that has happened to me at a convention.  That was the question, right? Our guest this week is Richard Behar, an award-winning investigative reporter who spent 15 years chronicling the life of Bernie Madoff, the mastermind behind the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Behar is the author of the newly released blockbuster book Madoff: The Final Word. Before Madoff died in prison, Behar and Madoff had more than 50 phone conversations, exchanged more than 300 emails, and met face-to-face three times. When Madoff was arrested in December 2008, his decades-long scam unraveled, revealing approximately $68 billion in purported assets across nearly 5,000 client accounts. In stark contrast, Madoff had less than $300 million, having swindled countless victims, including banks, charities, colleges, pension funds, and notable individuals such as Steven Spielberg, Sandy Koufax, Kevin Bacon, and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel. On this week' episode, Behar shares how Madoff sustained his scam for decades, the many people who facilitated his fraud, why his investors were so gullible, and what steps everyone should take to avoid falling victim to swindlers. As an exclusive bonus, listeners will hear two short private phone conversations between Behar and Madoff, recorded during Madoff's incarceration at a federal prison in Butner, North Carolina. Behar, honored as one of the top 100 business journalists of the 20th century, has received more than 20 major journalism awards. He previously worked on the staff of Forbes, Time, and Fortune. He also contributed reporting to CNN, PBS, and the BBC. If you believe you could never be tricked like thousands of Madoff's trusting investors were, you need to listen closely to this week's episode. Today, we're diving into the world of sustainable, mouthwatering cuisine with none other than the culinary visionary herself, Carleigh Bodrug.   Carleigh's journey is nothing short of inspiring. Growing up on a farm where meat reigned supreme, she later discovered the alarming truth about red and processed meats being classified as carcinogens by the World Health Organization. This revelation, coupled with her personal experience of her father's battle with colon cancer, propelled her toward a transformative shift in her diet. Fast forward to today, and Carleigh has become a household name, captivating millions with her blog, Plant You, and her latest cookbook, "PlantYou: Scrappy Cooking: 140+ Plant-Based Zero-Waste Recipes That Are Good for You, Your Wallet, and the Planet."   Now, what sets Carleigh's cookbook apart? Well, it's all about scrappy cooking—making delicious, nutritious meals while minimizing food waste. Ever wondered how to turn those food scraps into culinary gold? Carleigh's got you covered!   So join us as we explore plant-based recipes that not only tantalize your taste buds but also make a positive impact on your wallet and the planet!   “Food waste creates more emissions than the airline industry. So that gives you a scale of how much impact this has. And then sort of your mind goes to, okay, where is this waste coming from? Is it restaurants? Is it grocery stores? Is it happening on farms? And shockingly, the largest percentage is in consumer's homes. So I felt really, as a plant-based food vlogger, that I needed to talk about this. So, one day, I threw up a candied orange peel recipe, and it was really funny because whenever I put up a video, I kind of walk away from it because I don't want to know what the first reaction is. I get very nervous. So I walked away from my phone, and I came back to it about a couple hours later, and it had a non-exaggerated million views.” - Carleigh Bodrug   What we discuss in this episode: - How food waste contributes to global warming.  - The destructive power of methane vs. carbon dioxide. - Carleigh's tips to reduce food waste and save money. - Aquafaba and its uses. - How to make an amazing broth. - Making use of seeds. - How to make delicious vegan bacon. - Growing food from food scraps.   Resources: - PlantYou: https://plantyou.com/ - https://plantyou.com/ - Instagram: Carleigh Bodrug (@plantyou) • Instagram photos and videos - https://www.instagram.com/plantyou/?hl=en - YouTube: Carleigh Bodrug - YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiE57zg8KxrZpV_eWMjluVA - Twitter/X: Plant You (@carleighbodrug) / X - https://twitter.com/carleighbodrug?lang=en - Facebook: PlantYou - https://www.facebook.com/PlantYouBlog/ - Carleigh's new cookbook: Scrappy Cookbook - https://scrappycookbook.com/ - BiOptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough: bioptimizers.com/switch4good - http://bioptimizers.com/switch4good   ★☆★ Click the link below to support the ADD SOY Act! ★☆★ https://switch4good.org/add-soy-act/ ★☆★ Share the website and get your resources here ★☆★ https://kidsandmilk.org/ ★☆★ Send us a voice message and ask a question. If you are having a bad day, you might want to try washing a particular body part. It appears it helps even though it makes no sense. Listen and I will tell you what it is. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21707206/ Imagine if marketers could tell things about you just by the sound f your voice? Well, it is not only possible, it is being done right now! Your voice can reveal your age, height, socio-economic status, ethnicity – all sorts of things. And marketers use it to sell you things. But that is just the tip of the iceberg according to Joseph Turow Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication and author of the book The Voice Catchers: How Marketers Listen In to Exploit Your Feelings, Your Privacy, and Your Wallet (https://amzn.to/3YgUGJH) If you are concerned about your privacy, you should listen to what Joseph has to say.  Can you be sick and healthy at the same time? Actually, yes you can if you adapt to your illness. And humans have an amazing ability to adapt according to Tamen Jadad-Garcia coauthor of the book Healthy No Matter What: How Humans are Hardwired to Adapt (https://amzn.to/3L1POoR). Tamen joins me to explore what it really means to be healthy and how we can adapt to illness to improve the quality of life no matter what health issues you face. Want to sleep better tonight? The Semiconductor Industry Is Coming for Your Wallet - DuckDuckGo Should Be Your Go-To Search Engine - Which Messaging Apps Are Secure: Signal vs. WhatsApp - The Upside-Down Logic of Electric SUVs - Biden Goes Nuclear POWER! Amazon might own your doctor's office after their latest acquisition. The Semiconductor Industry Is Coming for Your Wallet. As Usual, Congress Is Complicit https://fee.org/articles/the-semiconductor-industry-is-coming-for-your-wallet-as-usual-congress-is-complicit/ In recent months, the auto and tech sectors have faced unprecedented delays and rising prices. Some used cars are even selling for more than their new counterparts because of the delays, a sure sign that production has slowed dramatically. To address this, Congress is contemplating bipartisan legislation known as the Chips Act, which would provide $52 billion in grants and $24 billion in tax credits to the US semiconductor industry. Unfortunately, thanks to a last-minute bipartisan amendment, the bill will also put tens of billions of dollars toward various federal agencies, bringing the total price tag to $250 billion. ++++++++ DuckDuckGo Should Be Your Go-To Search Engine. Here's Why https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/duckduckgo-should-be-your-go-to-search-engine-heres-why/ Since Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal, people have become more aware of what information they give companies and advertisers, sometimes without their knowledge or consent. Unfortunately, the data breaches also rose to a record high of 1,862 in 2021. As a result, more people are taking steps to protect their information, and one way some folks do that is by using the search engine DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo has positioned itself as a privacy-focused alternative to search engines like Google. DuckDuckGo has rolled out Android and iOS mobile apps and browser extensions to help keep your information secure, no matter if you use it on your phone or computer. Stop online trackers from spying on you You'll see fewer ads Websites should load faster Your search history isn't stored Your browsing history won't influence your search results. ++++++++ Messaging Apps That Are Secure: Signal vs. WhatsApp https://www.thestreet.com/technology/messaging-apps-that-are-secure-signal-vs-whatsapp Two messaging apps, Signal and WhatsApp, have become commonplace for people to talk to each other instead of sending a text. The Signal is more secure since the app provides end-to-end encryption by default, and the company does not keep records of your communications. However, while messages on WhatsApp are specific, end-to-end encryption is not on by default, leaving the responsibility up to consumers. One advantage of Signal is that "all of your messages are stored locally on your device and not Signal's servers," the spokesperson said. "Signal doesn't have access to what you send or with whom you communicate with and does not hinfluencethe content anyone receives. EIn addition, every call and message sent through Signal is encrypted by default." A hiccup is that, based on the history of Meta, the company keeps data forever. ++++++++ The Upside-Down Logic of Electric SUVs https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-upside-down-logic-of-electric-suvs-vehicles-co2-emissions-ford-subsidies-climate-change-auto-sector-11658524738 The auto industry gambles its finances on big electric vehicles for the rich, like Ford's Mustang Mach-E and GM's Hummer EV, and second-rate cars for everybody else. If consumers and businesses cared about the CO2 they emit, the last cars they might buy are hot-selling EVs like Ford's Mustang Mach-E or GM's Hummer EV. These large-battery, long-range vehicles would have to be driven many tens of thousands of miles before they rack up enough mileage and save enough gasoline from compensating for the emissions created to produce their batteries. And that's according to their fans, whose calculations often smell of friendly assumptions about the source of the electricity consumed, whether gasoline driving is being displaced mile for mile, and a presumed lack of progress in reducing the carbon intensity of conventional motor fuels. The most problematic assumption is that EV use causes oil to stay in the ground. ++++++++ Biden goes nuclear https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2022/07/biden_goes_nuclear.html Biden wants to turn to nuclear power in his zeal to end the burning of carbon-based fuels. As well, he should. Because nuclear is as carbon-friendly as windmills or solar parks and is a lot more reliable.  President Biden has made several pro-nuclear statements within the past few weeks. ++++++++ Amazon might own your doctor's office after the latest acquisition https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/07/amazon-might-own-your-doctors-office-after-latest-acquisition/ When Amazon launched Amazon Care to its employees in 2019, the goal was to test the product before rolling it out nationwide. After that rollout happened earlier this year, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told Insider that the expansion would "fundamentally" change the healthcare game by dramatically enhancing the medical-care process. He predicted that patients in the future would be so used to telehealth and other new conveniences that they'll think that things like long wait times and delays between in-person visits commonly experienced today are actually "insane." The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon has gone one step closer to that future by agreeing to a $3.9 billion deal to purchase One Medical, a company that operates a network of health clinics. With this move, Amazon will expand the number of patients it serves by gaining access to "a practice that operates more than 180 medical offices in 25 US markets and works with more than 8,000 companies to provide health benefits to employees, including in-person and virtual care."
