In this empowering episode of Skin Anarchy, host Dr. Ekta speaks with Zuly Matallana, the force behind TIARA—a clean deodorant brand on a mission to change how we think about body care. After surviving brain surgery and losing loved ones to breast cancer, Zuly turned frustration into fuel, challenging the outdated norms of deodorant formulation with transparency, integrity, and purpose.TIARA isn't just another “natural” deodorant. Zuly shares how she spent over two years perfecting a formula that's truly non-toxic and high-performing—free from aluminum, synthetic fragrances, endocrine disruptors, and even animal-based ingredients like tallow. With a base of sunflower seed wax and minimal baking soda, TIARA is both skin-friendly and sustainable, making it a favorite for athletes, wellness enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a product that truly works. But this episode goes beyond ingredients. Zuly dives into the larger issue: lack of regulation and misinformation in body care products we use every day. Through TIARA, she's built a platform for advocacy—educating retailers, speaking at summits, and winning recognition like the Entreprenista 100 award—all while remaining entirely self-funded.For anyone rethinking their routine or curious about the intersection of wellness and advocacy, this conversation offers inspiration and insight. Tune in to hear how Zuly is turning personal adversity into a movement for safer, smarter deodorant—and why TIARA is just getting started.CHAPTERS:(0:00) Introduction to TIARA and Zuly Matallana(1:39) Zuly Matayana's Journey to Creating a Brand(2:27) The Impact of Brain Surgery and Its Influence on Zuly's Perspective(5:09) The Path to Creating Sustainable Products(6:09) Researching and Developing Natural Deodorants(8:43) Understanding Harmful Ingredients in Conventional Deodorants(12:11) The Challenges and Misconceptions in the Deodorant Industry(16:15) The Importance of Ingredient Transparency and Consumer Education(21:37) The Future of Deodorants and Zuly's Mission for SustainabilityTo learn more about TIARA, visit their website and social media.Don't forget to subscribe to Skin Anarchy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred platform. “There's a lot of things that come with being able to support a retailer like that… If you're not ready for those things, then go DTC first because you also have to have: Is your product merchandisable? It would be my very first question.” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Tisha Thompson, founder and CEO of LYS Beauty, a brand conceptualized with skin-loving formulas that redefine the definition of beauty. The word "impossible" is simply not a part of Stephanie Cartin or Courtney Spritzer's vocabulary. With a "sky's the limit" mentality, these entrepreneurs walked away from their comfy corporate jobs, amid much skepticism from friends and family, and turned their side hustle into an award-winning business to find solutions to problems for other entrepreneurs.“...I remember being so scared to quit, to say those words. I didn't want to answer any questions about where I was going because…I felt so, I don't know, embarrassed to be 24 and say to my boss, ‘I'm quitting to start my own company and…I don't know if it's gonna work. We're self funding it…” I got through that whole process, but I remember at the time feeling really scared to have the conversation.…”Stephanie and Courtney are helping others chart a new course, through digital marketing, influencing, and by telling their story of re-creation to help others make the leap at Socialfly and Entreprenista.Be the first to know of new episodes by subscribing to this show on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. You need to know how your products work, you need to know what you're putting out there, and you need to be the expert at it so that you can educate your consumer. That also builds trust, so it's like, ‘Okay, she did the work. She has her license in cosmetology. She's a hair expert.' And then being able to talk about it, I think that truly sets us apart as well.” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Nadine Ramos, the CEO and founder of Blessed Bananas, a haircare brand that uses pure banana oil-based products for healthy, frizz-free hair. To build Blessed Bananas, Nadine leveraged the success from her first business, Lasio Professional Hair Care, a leader in the keratin treatment industry. Nadine brings more than 15 years of valuable expertise to Blessed Bananas and the business is all about creating clean, toxin free hair care that's safe for the whole family to use. Tune in to hear Nadine share her biggest business secrets and find out the biggest lessons she's learned since becoming an entrepreneur. “Nothing lasts forever, we're all gonna die. It's all very short. So, having that perspective kind of makes you say, ‘We're not around for that long, we probably should make the most of it and be happy.'” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Aishwarya Iyer, founder and CEO of Brightland, a stylish olive oil, vinegar, and honey company that sources its products directly from small family farms in California and Hawaii. “We'll always meet with any business owner to talk about where they are today and what their goals are. That can lead to one of three results. One, we decide to move toward an exit planning and consulting process… The second option is we go to market, we've developed an assessment of value, and we agree that now is the time. And the third option is, it might not be the right option to sell and we're happy to spend that time and to learn.” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Mary McKinney Flaherty, a Pittsburgh-based attorney who works with business owners to maximize and monetize their life's work. Today, you'll hear about Mary's non-linear career path, how practicing law is in her blood, and her key advice for business owners who are just starting out. Tune in and learn all about the ups and downs of selling a business and why it's so important to learn about your options sooner rather than later. We talked about: What it means to develop an exit plan and sell a business (09:31) Selling a business isn't always the right path (13:40) How business valuations are calculated for sale (15:56) Nothing really happens without a plan (19:51) Selling a business is complicated, but experts can help (31:39) Connect with Mary: LinkedIn Contact If you're interested in connecting with Mary and her team, head to https://tobinleff.com/contact and mention Entreprenista for a free consultation.
