Chief Co-founder Lindsay Kaplan wants you to be selfish. “Investing in oneself is spending the time to align your values with your goals, to reset and make sure that you’re not giving yourself away too much to your job. But, making sure that you have some feeling of wholeness," she says. What contributes to that feeling of wholeness? For Lindsay, it’s values-alignment in her work, cognitive diversity in her relationships, and creativity in her passion projects, like the screenplay she’s working on. We chat about the importance of surrounding ourselves with peers who get it, being honest when we need to take a break, and the direct link between focus and fulfillment.

In the second episode of their new podcast Starting Over, Edele, Sinead and Lindsay from B*Witched talk about their individual experiences of moving on and starting over after the band came to an end.For Lindsay, there were a lot of endings in a short space of time - not long before they lost their record deal, Lindsay lost her Mum, which completely consumed her. She talks really honestly about her grieving process, and how important her relationships with the other girls were at this dreadful time in her life.Sinead moved in with her boyfriend (now husband!) Michael after the band ended, and threw herself into work. She had a big ambition - she wanted to find and launch the next big Irish girl group - and she invested a lot of time and money in the process. Ultimately, it didn't work out, and Sinead talks about how she had to start again... Again! Edele moved back to Ireland and started songwriting. As well as writing for other people, she also wrote an album for herself - and in this episode she talks really openly about the difficulties she faced because of being "Edele from B*Witched". Yes, they'd had huge success - but when it comes to the music industry, this comes with negatives as well as positives. Keavy will of course be joining the rest of the girls a little later in the series... She's currently a little busy as she's just had two gorgeous babies! If you'd like to get in touch with Edele, Sinead and Lindsay about any of the subjects they discuss in Starting Over, they'd love to hear from you: follow @BWitchedReunion on Twitter or @BWitchedOfficial on Instagram, or @BWitchedReunion on Facebook.

On today’s episode of Vital Metabolic, hosts James Wheeler and John Parker speak with Lindsay Price, NFL cheerleader and online personal trainer. Hear about how she approaches training her all-female client base, how she balances training with being a professional dancer  and cheerleader, and her philosophy around nutrition.   Episode Highlights:  1:10 - Lindsay has 17 years of dance training and has experience dancing professionally and as an NFL cheerleader alongside being an online trainer and nutrition specialist. 2:28 - Lindsay developed a love of weightlifting and changing her body, along with mindset and lifestyle work that intersected with personal training. 3:10 - She realized she could perhaps serve her clients better, and serve more clients, by moving her business online. 3:53 - The biggest obstacle was trusting herself to take the leap. 4:58 - Lindsay knew she wanted to work with women and decided to choose that niche, with an ideal client of her “old self.” 5:56 - When she was a teenager, she didn’t know how to diet correctly or know how to be healthy long-term. 7:00 - She started to feel bad, with bad gut health, hormonal changes, and more, so she transitioned into holistic healing. 9:04 - It isn’t about just being ripped all the time, but it’s about being healthy and sustainable. 9:55 - Lindsay’s nutrition recommendations to her clients aren’t especially strict because she wants them to be intuitive about their own bodies. 10:45 - Strict meal plans aren’t sustainable and don’t result in lifestyle changes. 11:45 - One of the biggest obstacles Lindsay’s clients face most often is their own mindsets. 13:38 - Lindsay has her clients imagine the end result of where they want to be to motivate them to propel through their own resistance. 15:00 - Lindsay dislikes running but loves walking and aims for about 10,000 steps/day. 17:34 - Most of her dance training is cardio. 18:27 - During the football season, Lindsay balances her personal training work by being very deliberate about taking her rest. 20:15 - On game day, Lindsay’s nutrition involves feeling as light as possible while still knowing how many calories she needs to perform optimally. 21:04 - Lindsay is strategic about her calorie intake, particularly for recovery. 21:28 - Lindsay doesn’t usually track her macros but eats an average of 2,000-2,400 calories and follows general strategic guidelines for things like protein and carbs. 23:00 - People who eat a plant-based diet have the most trouble meeting their guidelines for protein intake. 23:55 - Lindsay doesn’t usually suggest protein supplements, she prefers the nutrients come from whole foods. 26:42 - Sometimes it’s hard for people to accept that they have to eat more in order to achieve the lean muscle mass they’re looking for. 27:12 - It’s less about weight loss than it is about body recomposition, and it has to be addressed individually with each client. 32:30 - For Lindsay, it depends on accountability and knowing what your client needs. 34:00 - The responsibility for your success starts with who you choose as your coach. 35:55 - People should look for a coach who will be honest and transparent with them. 36:30 - The best trainers are the ones who keep it simple, aren’t overly focused on marketing, and build a business of referrals. 38:08 - Lindsay foresees a continued shift to online training in the wake of the pandemic.   3 Key Points: Training can be less about tracking stats and more about trusting yourself and your body to intuitively understand what it needs. Be sure to take your rest and to eat enough to support your body through recovery. Every single person’s needs and goals are going to be different, so it’s important to know your client and tailor your recommendations to them.   Tweetable Quotes:  “That’s a question that you have to ask yourself. Is the risk/reward worth it? Where do you actually want to be in 5 years? And to me it’s not worth it.” –Lindsay Price “I just began really trusting myself, trusting my body, and I know that if I stayed consistent for so long, especially as a professional, you just know what your body  needs.” –Lindsay Price “It’s very hard for women to accept the fact that they have to eat more for the body they’re trying to achieve. Because oftentimes we’re told that that body means we have to be challenging ourselves & when we think of challenge, some people think of starvation.” –Lindsay Price   Resources Mentioned:  James: Facebook Instagram Twitter John: Facebook Instagram Twitter Email: info@vitalmetabolic.com  Website: www.vitalmetabolic.com  “The Cost of Getting Lean” article Lindsay Price: Website Facebook Instagram

Lindsay Peirce is back for a second time on the Well and Worthy Life podcast talking about moving forward and getting unstuck. She chats with Deanna about grieving and divorce. Among the many other things that she does, Lindsay founded Enough Wellness where she coaches women to help them become more present, grounded, and whole. Lindsay can relate to her clients in many ways, including feeling stuck. The most interesting thing about being stuck is how comfortable it can be - for many, comfortable enough to remain there. It is truly a choice to stay in that place, or to crawl out and become unstuck. Lindsay is often approached by her clients at this point in their lives. How does one get stuck in the first place? Often, this starts with feelings such as depression and grief. For Lindsay and so many others, this all culminated following divorce. During times like this, it can be overwhelming to even think of taking one step forward. It takes time, and healing is not linear. There will still be times you look back and think “what if?”  One thing that can help you get unstuck is acknowledging that the process can take time. You don’t need to rush through it. You can take time to feel your feelings and allow them to sink in.  At first, you only need to focus on making it through each day, while keeping in mind that eventually you have to start living.  Separation and divorce can also be a time to rediscover yourself, and this can be empowering. If you are ready to get to a better place, learn to create new boundaries and habits, and unlearn other practices that don’t serve you, connect with Lindsay. Art imitates life, and it also inspires new ways of looking at the world. The advent of the digital age has created a new palette for artists to make their mark on a scale unlike ever before. Lindsay Adams is among these boundary-pushing creatives, and she has captivated the digital world with her art—and her story. At first glance, there is a calming quality to Lindsay’s work. Color and texture come together to create eye-catching visuals. But aesthetic details aside, Lindsay’s art also aptly captures the nuances and complexities of life in this day and age. For Lindsay, art is both a respite and runway to inspire introspection and conversation. And this duality has been especially important to Lindsay as she navigates her work in art, advocacy, and everything in between.  In this conversation, Lindsay shared more about her relationship with art, how creativity has catalyzed her work as a disability advocate, and what she’s learned about the power of storytelling when connecting with others—and with herself. We’re all guilty of following traditions without understanding why. For example, how do you recognize Samhain? — A Gaelic festival that’s more commonly known as Halloween. Today the GroWise Be Well team discusses what Halloween means to them and how they celebrate it. From Samhain to the Mexican Day of the Dead, we open the conversation by talking about how differently Halloween is celebrated across the cultural spectrum. For Lindsay, Halloween is a stepping-stone towards Christmas, an occasion that she prepares well in advance for. With a focus on Thanksgiving, we discuss the importance of questioning our traditions and who they serve. Kayli provides some insight into this, commenting on how she reimagines traditions so that they resonate with her. For some of the team, this can mean doing your spring cleaning during fall or replacing Thanksgiving with Mabon, a festival that happens one month earlier. We touch on how each team member experiences Halloween before exploring the German ‘wild women’ night of Hexennacht and how Hollywood has distorted the image of witches and voodoo. After chatting about our favorite Halloween movies — Hocus Pocus gets a mention — Sarah highlights this episode’s key theme which is to find the reason that you partake in traditions. The declaration of Independence for the United States of America was formally declared on July 2, 1776, and signed on July 4, 1776.  However, it was not for another 144 years that Congress passed the 19thAmendment and ratified it, granting women the right to vote.  It was not until nearly 70 years ago when the United Nations declared that women’s rights are fundamental human rights, and that women should have the right to live free from violence, slavery, discrimination, to be educated, to own property, to vote, and to earn a fair and equal wage.  This issue is not isolated to one country, but is a worldwide problem. Women have been fighting a war for years to obtain the same rights which are granted to men.  One powerful voice that is advocating for these females, specifically female athletes, is Lindsay Crouse.  Lindsay is a journalist for the New York Times, an editor, producer, and competitive amateur marathon runner that is utilizing her position as a tool to bring inequality to the forefronts of our minds. Issues Facing Female Athletes There are multiple issues facing female athletes that are in plain sight of the general public that we should be concerned about.  These issues include but are not limited to pregnancy, bullying, emotional abuse, and pay equality.  Lindsay worked with top tier female runners over the course of a year to help tell their story and bring to light issues that may not be considered illegal, but that should be seen as unethical. Female athletes have lost money, sponsorship and some even their career, simply because of gender inequality.  In a series of opinion articles written for the New York Times, Lindsay highlighted some of these incredible athletes and the struggles they faced while running and competing for large sponsors. Mary Cain was one of the fastest women of our generation, and the youngest American track and field athlete to make a World Championship.  After signing with Nike’s Oregon Project she was beaten down by the win-at-all-cost culture and was forced to lose more and more weight until her body eventually broke down and she became damaged goods. Allyson Felix, a USA Olympian who won nine Olympic medals in track, was arguably one of Nike’s most marketed female athletes.  Allyson, along with two of her Nike teammates, Alysia Montano and Kara Goucher, had dreams of being great runners and mothers.  However, becoming pregnant and having children caused them to experience pay cuts and risk losing their contracts, simply for wanting to have children. Lindsay, and several brave female athletes helped bring these issues to the forefront of our minds and due to their courage, many top tier sponsors have made changes to their contracts proving these female athletes with guaranteed payments while they for the year and a half surrounding their pregnancies.  Without these valiant women being willing to share their stores, future female athletes would be dealing with the same issues for many years to come. Permission to Rebrand Yourself We are living in an exciting time for women’s sports and American women should thrilled about what is happening right now.  The elite and sub-elite women are running well and are giving strength and courage to women everywhere.  These women are not just athletes but have other important roles in their lives such as mothers and full time jobs.  Women all over the world can relate and identify with these athletes and should be empowered by them. For Lindsay, she continues to get older but has not let that limit her abilities as a runner.  As she is getting older, she is becoming faster than she ever thought she could be.  But as she continues to accomplish what she believed to be impossible she has realized that no one should be able to brand you.  You have permission to rebrand yourself and be what others don’t think you can be.  You don’t need permission from anybody but yourself to go out and accomplish amazing goals.  One person, giving permission in their own life to rebrand themselves, is enough to potentially inspire everyone else in their own lives. Creating Opportunities for Women If you want something to change, don’t wait for the system to accommodate you.  Make whatever system you are in work for you.  There will always be disadvantages, but you can turn those into advantages if you look for it.  Many women are accomplishing fantastic things in the workplace, but this is not enough. Think about why you want to do something, and if why you want to do it is really important to you, go get it!  Once you’ve got it, find ways to fix it for other people.  You may not always be able to change the system but find different ways to bring other women with you. Women always are made to feel as though they are competing for positions.  It seems like there are a limited number of slots for women in the workplace, whereas men don’t typically feel as though they have to compete for positions.  But remember, if you put the work in, you can get there.  You can do whatever you want to do as long as you’ve prepared yourself.  And when the opportunity presents itself, the time and effort you’ve put into it will be obvious.  It is not a matter of being perfect, but of being brave.  Change your mindset and be the change that you want to see! While we have come a long way, we still have a long way to go.  This is a battle that is being fought every day.  We have two choices: act like it doesn’t exist and do nothing or find ways to get involved.  This is not about women being greater than men, but about women being equal to men.  There are incredible female athletes working hard every day to get their chance to shine.  It is up to each and every one of us to make sure these incredible people are given every opportunity to succeed, to eliminate the stigma, and to perpetuate the cause. 070: Creating Your Online Classroom with Lindsay Padilla

Tech of Business

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 19, 2019 39:54

Have you ever thought about creating and teaching an online course, but thought it was just too much to take on? Or that there would be so much involved that you just couldn’t do it? Today we are talking with Dr. Lindsay Padilla the mastermind behind the Build a Better Beta Program. Lindsay’s program is all about creating a simple Beta course with minimal tech. Let’s get into it! Rather than starting with something new, Lindsay built her business from the in person classroom as a sociology professor at a community college. She recognized that entrepreneurs weren’t sure how to teach, organize content, and what technology that they needed in order to be able to deliver content. This led her to create her signature “Build a Better Beta” program. It’s all about how to launch a course as quickly/easily as possible with as little tech as possible. She is excited to help people who have been sitting on courses too long because of all the things they thought they had to have ready in order to launch their program. You grow your course based on the feedback. From the beta, not from what you think someone else wants to learn. You just need to put the idea out there and work collaboratively and iteratively with your first set of students. When someone comes to me and says, “Jaime, we need to get this out there.” My first response is to ask them how many phases that is launch. We need to get phase 1 out of the way as quickly as possible so we can learn: what our students actually want where they get hung up where we need to expand and evolve It’s funny, I never realized it before but as Lindsay pointed out, most of the time courses created by marketers are basically textbooks. That is, they are material but they are not true learning experiences and don’t reside in a construct for completion and implementation. “I believe courses are true learning experiences.”- Lindsay Padilla Lindsay wants to change this perception and create an actual learning environment similar to what you would get in a college course. In this space, there are multiple factors including the textbook. She’s reframing the idea of what it means to TEACH a course. If she gave you a textbook and said go learn this and then she tested you in a couple weeks how good would you do if all you had was a textbook? As you heard, Lindsay called me out on using the term “Minimum Viable Product” because it’s a software development term. A better beta is more like a minimum awesome course. What makes it awesome is that it’s an intimate co-creative experience. Lindsay’s program teaches her students to not pre record anything or pick a platform until you have live taught in a workshop setting because it helps you to really show up for the people that pay for your expertise. This gives you the most flexibility and allows you to truly listen to your students in a LIVE setting. You are allowed to charge money for this kind of experience. Phase one should really only be how can I get my students from point A to point B. You and your expertise are what is valuable NOT how fancy your graphics are. It’s truly about you and your students. We all know there are so many tech options out there for virtual courses. Most of the ones the gurus are using are going to work. But you can get stuck in the weeds with this little detail of which platform they should be on. I see people crowdsourcing on social media all the time... asking things like what platform they should be on. This is where I pop in and say, “Can we have a conversation about this?” If I know where someone wants to be in 6 months to a year I can easily suggest 2-3 pieces of software to help them get there. But if I’m one comment in a thread of 400 comments, my value isn’t demonstrated. Those people are no more clear than when they asked the question in the group. What is the fastest way to get someone from “what they want” to “seeing the result”? In this online space, a lot of our validation comes from outside. The issue with this is that it puts doubt in the minds of people who really do have information that they could teach -- they ask themselves questions like am I qualified enough? Lindsay has found that her customers are largely already very credible. Therefore, the thing that is truly going to move their business forward is starting to serve people. Lindsay and I both see would-be online creators put tiny decisions like choosing a platform in their way just so they can avoid the real true hard work of putting yourself out there and selling something. People are trying to avoid rejection. Predictably, the biggest fear is often that nobody is going to buy your course. Which leads to a mindset spiral.. If someone doesn’t buy our course then the knowledge we are offering isn’t valuable. It’s not possible to avoid these fears. But we do need minimize the emotional/mental toll regarding the results. And then we can realize that this result is not connected to what we actually know and our value. We are literally JUST testing out a product. If no one buys your course, your material is likely not the issue. It’s likely the marketing message not the content!! The mindset of running a beta is that you are collecting data. If you sit around deciding which platform to use then you never collect that data. Time is money. You just need to start teaching... that’s where the value is. Let’s go back to the textbook reference. The teachers who teach classes are excellent teachers because they are teaching what they know and they are using the textbook as a reference. I could write your textbook and you could teach and we could not ever have any contact. But you might be far more successful than I am at TEACHING the material because you have made a connection with your audience. You have sold them into your philosophy on how to interpret this material. This is something that sticks out to me. I work in the back end of a lot of courses making sure that everything fits together so the content is delivered correctly and on schedule. Technology can either enhance or ruin good teaching because it is the tool to create the experience. When Lindsay is recommending tools for her students she keeps it as minimum as possible. She tends to recommend things like: Google Docs- workbooks, lesson planning, being able to edit the doc live on the fly when something comes to you. Using Google Docs creates flexibility in the first stages. Zoom Pro- making sure you can record a video and be a workshop style thing when delivering content. Getting the package that allows you to livestream is great if you can do it. “If the textbook is the content you are creating, then Facebook is the classroom where they can talk to each other and get to know you a little better.”- Lindsay Padilla Lindsay likes to stream the workshops directly into the Facebook group for a beta course. This way there is no need to worry about recording video and uploading and details like that. Another benefit is that some students can’t attend a Zoom event because of their internet or download situation but can easily (and often LOVE) attending on Facebook. And this also allows the Facebook post to house the session comments. That opens up engagement! Everything that Lindsay teaches in Build a Better Beta is designed to make it easy for students/clients to have success and help you improve on your initial ideas. Yup -- we’re going there → One of the messiest aspects of online courses is collecting payment. In the early days of “Build a Better Beta” before moving to MemberVault, Lindsay taught people to use a Paypal.Me link. But when it came to setting up a payment plan or subscription, it got a little messy. Then she started working with MemberVault. This platform does some really great things. AND all of the premium features are available for you to use up to 50 members. I ran a full series on MemberVault which you can access here. Most of Lindsay’s students Beta programs are less than 50 people. Membervault has been such a game changer because of all the integrations it allows. It also allows you to create payment plans for people who need that and you just send them a link. It’s so easy! I was seriously blown away when Lindsay dropped this brilliance on the podcast. This use of MemberVault is genius. She teaches her students to use one element of MemberVault and not worry about the other {amazing} features. This doesn’t differ from one of my core values → keeping a very streamlined tech stack. That means keeping as few pieces of tech as possible. It’s also important to implement everything you possibly can with that system. What Lindsay is telling her students to do in phase one is to focus on and implement: the payments work on your relationships teaching what makes value Then once that phase is done, if your clients wanted this course off Facebook you put your content into MemberVault because they are already using it for their payments. I am not saying you have to implement everything in a system all at once. Rather, it’s more that have to exhaust that piece of software until it no longer serves you. I really like the fact Lindsay does a stair step approach when it comes to MemberVault like you would do with any other piece of software. Zoom - A powerful low cost solution Zoom is a very powerful tool. Zoom Webinar is the addon that allows you to livestream into Facebook. A Zoom meeting cannot be streamed, but a Zoom Webinar can. Using this addon, you are streamlining it for the user without adding a lot of complexity for the teacher. It does take the price of the tool from $15 a month to $55 a month. Zoom makes it really easy to remove this addon when you are done with your beta and add it back in when you’re ready to do another round of webinars or run your course again. . Most Beta program for Lindsey’s students are about 6-8 weeks long. Lindsay will ask her clients, “Is it worth investing $80 so you don’t have to do all the downloading, uploading, and allowing students to live attend?” For Lindsay it is because she knows the time it takes to do all those things. Lindsay teaches people to organize their Facebook group by units and modules. Facebook becomes the true classroom. It will have the workshop that she taught live, the Q&A session she did separately, and maybe some relevant posts from her students all in one place. Live streaming your course into Facebook allows you organize your content so that someone can come in and quickly get the material they need. It’s saving her time to spend the $80 and she can turn it off really easily. “Paying for ease of use in tech...you are buying back your time.”- Lindsay Padilla There is a whole component that Facebook has added to their groups that Lindsay is taking advantage of to make it easier for her students. She is using a Facebook Group in a way that allows the modules. Facebook has become a great tool to recreate a classroom online without a huge amount of overhead. Lindsay just told the entire Tech of Business audience that they can launch a course and spend around $200. What a way to just get started! Maybe it’s time for me to create a course! Lindsay Hamrick, Policy Director for Companion Animals at the Humane Society of the United States, works to support local, state and federal policies protecting pets. She holds an M.S. in Animals & Public Policy from Tufts University and was the New Hampshire state director for HSUS prior to her current role. She spent ten years as CEO at three different New Hampshire animal shelters and, like so many of our guests, knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with animals. In her operational positions, Lindsay came to realize how much policy can affect the work of animal shelters—even though most shelter workers are so busy they often can’t pause to think about it until they have to. For Lindsay, one of those “have to” moments was in dealing with the New Hampshire state restriction on adopting out FIV and FeLV+ cats. She worked to change that rule, and she is now trying to take her “on-the-ground” experience in shelter operations and apply it on a national, policy level. Lindsay tells us that it’s important not only to make sure that there aren’t negative policies affecting the community cat population but that it’s also critical to be proactive and progressive about policy. Lindsay and Stacy speak at length about the incredibly successful Spay-a-Thon for Puerto Rico program, as well as the current state of affairs for animals in Puerto Rico. They also touch on some “hot topics” in legislation affecting community cats around the country right now, including some good bills in the works in the Midwest. To learn more about HSUS and their work with community cats, you can contact Lindsay directly via email or you can reach out to Danielle Bays, Director of Cat Protection and Policy at HSUS.

Lindsay graduated from college with dual engineering degrees, but was interested in entrepreneurship. This is her second company. She has helped Long Game raise $6.6 Million from Thrive Capital and Collaborative Fund. In this interview, Lindsay shares her enthusiasm for the app, the purpose behind the app, and her inspiration. This is a great interview where a young entrepreneur shares how innovation can change our futures. Show Notes [03:17] Lindsay's dad was a huge influence in her life. He ran a pet hospital in San Francisco. [03:38] Being an entrepreneur for Lindsay is a combination of being a die-hard optimist and having a sincere interest in solving problems. [03:58] She started her career caring about problems with the environment. She then became more involved in tech and financial services. [04:29] Most people are extremely bad with their finances. [04:41] This is a huge macro problem. It is taboo to talk about financial stress. You can feel like you are failing when you are failing at your finances. [05:24] Lindsay was watching a John Oliver sketch on the lottery and realized how huge it was. [06:20] This inspired her to take a mechanism that people love and use it to inspire them to save. [06:30] Long Game is a mobile app that is an FDIC insured savings account. When you save money in the account, you get opportunities to win up to a million dollars. [06:49] This is a no risk way to engage in risky lottery type behaviors without risk. [07:07] The app solves the problem of savings and getting finances under control. [07:28] Half of Americans can't come up with $500 to cover an emergency. Most are walking a tightrope without a net. [08:25] A lot of people cope with financial problems by ignoring them. Many people don't budget. [11:08] Why gamification? How we feel really matters. The goal is to bring joy and fun into finances. The strategy to achieve that is to use games. [11:53] there are a lot of sparkles, graphics, characters, and you get to play a game of chance. This makes savings exciting and it feels different. [12:34] There was a lot of resistance at first especially from investors. [13:32] The purpose of the app is to help people make meaningful change by playing games as opposed to grinding through it. [13:57] They had to have a banking partner and convince them that came of was the way to go. [14:25] The first design of Long Game felt like a bank. Then they realized it didn't have to look and feel that way. [15:12] Crypto currency and how it plays a part in the platform. [15:25] Blockchain is a new way of storing and distributing information. People have built currencies on top of this platform. [15:42] It's an exciting time with crypto, but it is still a very volatile market. [16:12] Crypto isn't the most responsible place to put your $500 that you are saving for a rainy day. [16:16] Crypto was added as a reward in the app. You can win ethereum and bitcoin and other crypto currencies. This is an opportunity to encourage savings and to educate consumers about crypto. [16:55] Ethereum is a distributed computing network. It is on blockchain, transparent, and managed by a community of developers. They are building an infrastructure for other platforms to launch on. One of those is ethereum. [18:08] The purpose of Long Game is to attract people to save by enjoying rewards. The average Long Game consumer is under 26 years old and already aware or interested in crypto. This is just a way for them to be rewarded with more in a safe way. [23:29] Working in startups you learn a lot about your strengths and weaknesses. Early on in Lindsay's career she thought she had to be good at everything. She had her team take personality assessments and they all learned about their own strengths and weaknesses. [24:41] For Lindsay the test confirmed her traits like being a number seven an enthusiast. [26:05] Lindsay is willing to give up things that she doesn't do well at. [26:27] Lindsay's biggest accomplishment is Long Game. She is super proud of creating something completely new that is helping a lot of people. [27:18] Mistakes are how we learn. Maybe Lindsay's biggest mistake is not making more mistakes earlier. [29:11] At long game you earn .1% interest. They do plan to move into other financial services. [30:59] Everybody's Long Game account is personalized. And they are all different. [32:00] Lindsay likes to focus on the energy and intention of how she is showing up. She is building a product she truly believes in and is excited about it, and her team feels the same way. [32:45] An important entrepreneurial skill is truth telling. It's important to build trust with your team and deal with situations head on. [34:55] In Lindsay's spare time she hangs out with friends and family. She loves to cook and is going camping this weekend. [36:28] There is actually more to do once the app is launched. In today's episode we talk to mom Lindsay Bonnar about her home birth story. Lindsay planned a home birth for her first baby, but circumstances required a transfer to a birth center. Now pregnant with her second, Lindsay and her husband are planning a home birth again for the second round.  ---- This episode is an interview and home birth story of Lindsay Bonnar. Lindsay is another beautiful face of home birth, sharing her plans for home birth with her daughter that eventually shifted into a transfer to a birthing center. Now pregnant with baby number two, Lindsay is planning another home birth, a decision that we are totally inspired by and know others will be as well. For Lindsay, birth was the most spiritual experience of her life. And she talks about trusting herself and her body in such a way - it’s an amazing example to women everywhere to empower themselves to choose in alignment with what’s best for them. Another aspect of Lindsay’s story that really resonated with me and Matthew was the role of her husband Kevin and how awesomely he showed up for the birth experience. Dear listeners, As this is our first show since the UK's historic EU referendum, we wanted to take a minute to talk to you guys about Brexit, Britain's exit from the European Union. Lindsay and I both stand firmly on the side of "Remain", the campaign that did not want British people to vote for leaving the EU. For me as a German citizen, it is particularly heartbreaking to see my adopted home country vote for a process that is going to strengthen the lines between our countries. For Lindsay as a Brit, it has created an atmosphere in which it's difficult to feel at home. On a personal level, the result devastated both of us, although we respect the many different opinions that will have gone through voters' minds on the day. The reports of xenophobic and intolerant comments and incidents since the result were another shock. Racial abuse is not acceptable behaviour, and this is not a time to turn to politicians promising to improve things by hurting foreigners. Of course, there are also concerns about what leaving the European Union might mean for the UK's other nations and their own languages, especially Wales and Scotland. This is a time of real uncertainty, and Lindsay and I are finding ourselves in the middle of it. We believe that being British does not exclude being European. We want to live in a prosperous, positive and inclusive Europe, and believe in a philosophy that emphasizes unity, working together and holding our country to the highest possible standard. In the following show, you'll hear our stories of being in other countries, and how amazing the experience can be for growth as language learners and as humans. We hope that Britain will find a path that keeps this freedom and commitment to an international fuutre available to all of its citizens, and all that want to experience languages in the UK. Thank you guys so much for listening to our show, and for opening your life to all the benefits of language learning. We wish you all the best today. Kerstin and Lindsay
