In episode forty-seven, Yuki and Manabe discuss Tohru and the nature of Yuki's feelings towards her. Tohru's class decides to rewrite Cinderella to fit their odd casting choices. In episode forty-eight, it's showtime! Cinderella-ish is a hilarious success, despite an out of character outburst from Tohru at the end of the show, causing Kyo to wonder about her true feelings towards him. In episode forty-nine, Yuki makes sure to include Machi in the student council's plans to celebrate the end of the school year together. It's also time for the New Year's banquet at the Sohma estate, which results in an unsettling exchange between Akito and Yuki around forgiveness of one another. Tohru spends the holiday with Kyo, Kazuma, and Rin at Kazuma's dojo. Tohru's wish for the new year is for the Sohma's curse to be broken. In episode forty-one, Tohru visits the Sohma estate to talk to Kureno on Uo's behalf. By happenstance, she meets Momo, who is fascinated by Momiji and hopes Tohru can convince him to be her big brother. When Tohru speaks with Kureno, he vows to never speak to Uo again. In episode forty-two, it's time for Tohru's class trip to Kyoto! Romantic shenanigans are abound, while Tohru and Yuki find souvenirs to bring home. Yuki muses over the positive impact Tohru has had on his life and silently offers her gratitude. Kyo and Tohru spend some time alone. In episode forty-three, we learn about Rin and her difficult childhood, which culminated in her parents abandoning her in her teen years. Kakeru Manabe and Yuki have an argument after school when Manabe asks Yuki regarding his feelings about Tohru. The boys have a heart-to-heart conversation, which breaks up the tension between them. In episode thirty-nine, Shigure steps in for Tohru's parent-teacher conference when she learns her grandfather won't be able to attend. Yuki contemplates inviting his own parents to the conference. Hatsuharu and Rin finally reunite. In episode forty, at parent-teacher conferences, Ayame arrives to help Yuki through the very uncomfortable meeting with his mother. In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika return to Fruits Basket (2019) and begin season two! In episode twenty-six, Yuki joins his fellow student council members: Manabe and Machi, and he certainly doesn't know what to make of them. Motoko's embarrassing outburst in the student council room is difficult to see unfold. In episode twenty-seven, Kazuma shows just how exemplary of a father he was, and still is, to Kyo. Kyo and Tohru share a deeply emotional conversation over late night somen regarding their futures. Chika and Giana are unquenchably intrigued, wondering what Shigure's writing is like. Shigure's laundry analogy perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being overwhelmed. In episode twenty-eight, Yuki steps out of his comfort zone yet again to try and better understand his flamboyant brother Ayame by visiting his clothing shop. We get a glimpse into Yuki's difficult relationship with his family, including Ayame growing up. Storytelling is a powerful tool for exploring difficult issues - both in terms of catharsis and also at a distance. This is especially true for death and bereavement. While the dragons have discussed grief in speculative fiction before, this week they are examining bereavement as a storytelling mode in its own right. How do you write bereavement in a way that isn't overwhelming, off-putting or just false? What are the popular tropes which explore this issue? And just why might you include it in sff anyway? The story follows a group of adventurers—Laios, a human swordsman; Chilchuck, a halfling locksmith; and Marcille, an elven spellcaster—who fail to slay a red dragon, resulting in the dragon consuming Laios' sister, Falin, a human spellcaster. Determined to rescue her before digestion, they must return to the dungeon without their supplies. Laios proposes they survive by eating dungeon monsters, an idea reluctantly accepted by the group. Inside, they meet Senshi, a dwarf skilled in cooking and surviving on dungeon resources.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episodes twenty-four and twenty-five of Fruits Basket (2019). It's finale time! In episode 24, Kyo's true form is shocking to Chika and Giana for reasons you wouldn't expect. Kyo's mother's delicate treatment of Kyo, and especially his rosary, tugged at the girls' heartstrings. Tohru's ability to allow the way she cares for Kyo trump the fear she has of his true form makes Giana “a wreck”. In episode 25, Chika credits Yuki for how much work he put into resisting his revulsion to the cat spirit. Giana takes the opportunity to fangirl over Eric Vale one last time. The lack of information about the aftermath of the reveal of Kyo's true form leaves lots of lingering questions. Kagura and Kazuma leaving without saying goodbye after everything that occurred the previous night leaves a bitter taste in this week's sundae.
