Rural doctors are appalled the proposed Pae Ora Healthy Futures Bill doesn't include a rural health strategy, and fear it could entrench health inequities in rural areas. The bill amalgamates the country's 20 District Health Boards into one centralised unit called Health New Zealand. The New Zealand Rural General Practice Network says the proposed legislation ignores the needs of the approximately 750,000 New Zealanders living in rural areas. Rural healthcare has been in crisis for at least a decade, with poorer health outcomes, and a critical workforce shortage. Forty percent of the country's 194 rural practices are looking for staff, and the existing workforce is aging, with 50 percent signalling they plan to retire in the next five to ten years. The RGPN is calling for rural communities to be identified as a priority population group in the legislation -- alongside Maori, Pacific People and the Disabled, who are already recognised. Kathryn speaks to Dr Grant Davidson, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network, and Gill Naylor, president of Rural Women New Zealand.

In this 9th and mystical episode of the Graventown pod, I had the chance to talk with song-forger and tune-wielder and long-time pal Grant Davidson who is known musically as Slow Leaves. Slow Leaves is Winnipeg songwriter Grant Davidson. His 2020 record, Shelf Life (working title), marks his third studio album under the moniker Slow Leaves. With a laid-back crooner's lilt and nylon string guitar, Davidson finds universal themes through the deeply personal. Exploring ideas of lost time, elusive wisdom, romantic realism, and the struggle to reconcile family life, art, and aging, Slow Leaves persists in finding poetry in ordinary things and a humanity that shines in even the darkest corners. He also recorded, mixed and produced his latest album "Holiday" at a dark peak of Covid in his basement. Grant is an always interesting and unique voice in the music world, and it was an honour to catch up and chat with this melodic magician.  Have a listen and do your best to stay kind at all times.Help me fund my next album by clicking here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gravencanada/simple-complex-a-porthole-into-gravens-15th-major-release #graventown #gravencanada #singersongwriter Catch me in a town near you by visting my website to see where I'm playing. In Murupara, a Bay of Plenty town with one of the lowest rates in the country, the nearest permanent vaccination centre is a 50 minute drive from the town. Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry talks to Grant Davidson, managing director of Davidson Branding, about the changes in consumer behaviour and the increase in startups in the FMCG sector. The episode opens with Grant commenting on the roller coaster of fundamental shifts in shopper behaviour over the last 18 to 24 months, with COVID speeding up some changes but also the Millennials becoming the most influential consumers and Gen-Z coming of age. He notes that these two groups love discovering new brands and are more likely to shop locally, be health conscious and support ethical, sustainable products, so brand owners need to start adapting to these changes. The discussion then moves to the levelling effect of digital technology, allowing startups to grow faster than the big brands have and to choose whether to stay online or progress through to independents and supermarkets as their production capabilities grow. This leads to a discussion on the packaging freedoms that are offered from online sales as opposed to being on a supermarket shelf and the ability to provide more information about a product's sustainability and provenance. We wrap the episode with the explosion in plant based meats and the rise of cultured meat products, both of which are being fuelled by Millennials and Gen-Z who are more willing to adopt them than previous generations. Grant then notes the increasing pace of change in FMCG, his recommendations for brand survival during this time of change and his views on the near future.------------------------------The Food & Drink Business Podcast is produced by Southern Skies Media on behalf of Food & Drink Business, owned and published by Yaffa Media. The views of the people featured on this podcast do not necessarily represent the views of Food & Drink Business, Yaffa Media, or the guest's employer. It only took one listen at his producer's house in 2003 to convince me that JP Hoe had something special. He's got a big, powerful, one-of-a-kind voice, and knows how to craft a memorable melody. I knew he was headed for great things and couldn't wait to share his music with people. And I've been doing it steadily for 18 years now. In that time, he's put out an early EP, 4 full-length albums, kick-started the creation of one of my favourite live music venues, and created a perennially successful and popular Christmas-time concert, The Hoe Hoe Hoe Holiday Show, and a related collection of original and classic Christmas songs. He is one of the most popular live acts in Winnipeg, always performing to sold-out crowds and is a regular at local festivals and major events. He was part of a local supergroup called Middle of Nowhere, which was made up of JP, Rusty Matyas (now known as Rusty Robot), Alexa Dirks (now doing big things as Begonia), Grant Davidson (aka Slow Leaves) and Keri Latimer (leader of Leaf Rapids and Nathan.) He's extensively toured Canada, The USA, Australia, Iceland, and Europe. Needless to say, the guy's been busy! JP has been one of the most played artists on my radio shows and has stopped by the studio to chat and sing at least a dozen times, but somehow, it's always fresh and fun and interesting. JP Hoe lives in Winnipeg with his wife and two kids. You can find him online at JPHoe.com and on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. He's hard at work on a long-awaited new album. I've got more from our conversation that I'll share on the September 5 episode of my show Tell the Band to Go Home, which you can find at tellthebandtogohome.com. Grant Davidson, known professionally as Slow Leaves, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician. Davidson began playing guitar at age 15, inspired after discovering a Led Zeppelin II cassette tape in his older brother's room. It was a finger-picked guitar however that would eventually form the heart of his songs. After three shoe-string budget albums under his own name, Davidson debuted as Slow Leaves in 2014 with Beauty Is So Common, followed by Enough About Me in 2017. In 2020 he released the strikingly vulnerable Shelf Life which represented the culmination of a distinctive poetic voice exploring recurring themes of romantic memory, artistic ambition, and dreams left unfulfilled. Davidson's voice is fragile and assured. His music could exist as comfortably in the ‘70s as it does in today's age of curated images and hollow soundbites, when vulnerability can be seen as defiance and sincerity as radical. The Perfect Disaster with Phil Parfitt in conversation with David Eastaugh The first incarnation of the band was named Orange Disaster, with Parfitt joined by Ken Renny (bass), and Alison Pate (guitar). This line-up released a seven-inch EP called "Something's Got To Give" on Neuter Records, Catalogue Number OD 01. Often mislabeled as 1982 - the release date that is given on the labels is 1.9.1980 (1 September 1980). After this they changed their name to The Architects of Disaster. Parfitt was then joined by Tony Pettitt (bass), Nod Wright (drums) and Paul Wright (guitar). This line-up disbanded, having released one single, "Cucumber Sandwich"/"Friendly Fire." Nod Wright and Tony Pettit then left to form Fields of the Nephilim with Parfitt recruiting Grant Davidson (bass) and later John Saltwell (bass), Dan Cross (guitar), and Malcolm Catto (drums).[1] They returned in 1984 as The Perfect Disaster, with an eponymous debut album issued on the French Kampa label in 1985. In 1987, the band signed to Glass Records, which reissued their debut album, and followed it with a twelve-inch EP later that year. There were further line-up changes when Saltwell and Pate departed, replaced by multi-instrumentalist Josephine Wiggs. The band moved on to Fire Records, releasing the Asylum Road album in 1988. Catto also left, with Phil Outram and Martin Langshaw joining for their third album, Up, which reached number fifteen on the UK Indie Chart, and saw the band touring with The Jesus and Mary Chain. In 1989, Wiggs left to join The Breeders, with Saltwell returning. In 1990, the band issued the Rise EP, and a final album, Heaven Scent, before splitting up the following year
