Guest Bio:After the birth of my 4th child, I suffered from extreme postpartum depression and anxiety. The only way I can describe the way I felt every day was like a pot of boiling water on the stove. I kept trying to turn the temperature down so I wouldn't boil over. On April 6th, 2019 was the day I couldn't turn the temperature any lower. The water was too hot and it boiled over. I boiled over.I remember feeling extreme anger. Then extreme guilt. Then extreme sadness. I packed an overnight bag and I left. I felt like my children were better off without me, my husband and children deserved better. After writing somewhat of a goodbye text to my husband I was going to run into oncoming traffic. I ended up calling my dear friend and she guided me to a safe place and then I drove my self to the behavioral hospital. When I came home and was still recovering, my husband came to me, put his hands on my shoulders and said, “you are going through this so you can help other women.” I knew in my heart that he was right. 2 months later I was reading the book “You Are More Than Enough, You Are Magnificent“ by Ganel-Lyn Condie. In the book, she says that every woman needs a Wonder Woman Journal. That was the moment I knew I needed to create that for women. A place to help us recognize our strengths and successes, to share my story and help bring awareness to postpartum depression.

What’s it like combating an entrenched problem like homelessness during a pandemic? What skills and mindset make the difference in good times and bad? How does one get selected Prescott Woman of the Year? Find out from Coalition for Compassion and Justice Executive Director, Jessi Hans. In 2018, Jessi and her team set the bold (Crazy?) intention to end homelessness in Prescott. Since Covid, they have redoubled their efforts to house every member of the Prescott community and connect their clients to the services that will help get them back on their feet and back to their lives. We talk with Jessi about the Housing First philosophy, leading her team with authenticity and transparency, the value of partnerships, and how to stay human when things get tough. This week we are sharing an episode from another podcast we produce - The Prescott Woman Podcast. In this interview, we talk to Jessi Hans, a nonprofit director who lives a bold and dedicated life. We talked with Jessi a few hundred years ago when we were just starting out and this interview is just as full of community, leadership, and her bold, crazy mission to end homelessness. It was great catching up with Jessi and if you missed her the first time, go back and check out episode 8. Guest Bio: After 16 years in the human services field, Jessi Hans has an understanding of how addiction, trauma, mental illness, and systemic barriers can put people out on the street. Jessi takes a collaborative approach to problem-solving, bringing together people and organizations with the gifts and skillsets to make meaningful progress on difficult problems. She also works consciously to shift the narrative around people experiencing homelessness to help everyone see what she sees: human beings, citizens, neighbors, members of the community. Born and raised in Iowa, Jessi earned her B.F.A. at Northwest Missouri State University and she’s lived in Arizona since 2005. She has a wife and three young children. Jessi enjoys quality time with her family, traveling, reading, creating art, and singing. Jessi was recently named Women of the Year by Prescott Area Leadership. When we asked her the uncomfortable question of why she was chosen for this honor, she told us she thought the award honored her role more than her actions. We think she might be being too humble, but we’ll let you decide why you think Jessi deserves the win. Stay tuned to find out what it’s like to have the audacity to take on the big problems with love, humor, and vulnerability as we talk with CCJ’s Jessi Hans. This is also a perfect episode for this difficult season. In it, we talk about what it means to serve those less fortunate, what it means to have a safe place to live, and how we can make a difference not just by writing checks, but by extending compassion. Anyone else feeling more of the holiday spirit, just hearing those words? Not yet? Keep listening. We often feel so much pressure to excel in our businesses that we allow our personal relationships to fall by the wayside. How can you maintain focus on the things that really matter? What should you be working on to rebuild your personal and romantic life? On this episode, Brandy and Lance Salazar of Legendary Couples share how they fixed their marriage to become stronger than ever. Three Things We Learned From This Episode Love yourself firstIt’s impossible to truly love someone else unless you’re comfortable with yourself. You need to find ways to make yourself happy rather than seeking all your joy from another person. Fill your own cup before trying to fill anyone else’s. Approach your relationship like a businessMost business owners acknowledge that a lot of work goes into running a successful company. However, the same cannot be said for relationships. You need to put effort into maintaining your relationship. Don’t allow it to come second to business obligations. Focus on what really mattersAsk yourself whether you’re constantly accumulating more because you need it or because you want to impress the people around you. If, like most people, you’re falling into the latter category, take some time to think about what really matters. If constant accumulation is causing a disconnect from your partner, consider scaling back a bit. The pressures of modern life can take a toll on romantic relationships. Whether a constant pursuit for more is leading to a disconnect, or social media is misleading people into thinking you have the perfect life, it’s important to remember that every couple goes through trials. The trick to solving this lies in communication and connection. Allow yourself to have space from your partner and remember that you need to be happy with yourself before you can attempt to make another person happy. Guest Bio: After a tumultuous upbringing, Brandy Salazar believed she had made it when she launched a successful career in real estate. On top of her career, she fell in love with and married a successful man and had two daughters. However, 20 years into that, she realized that a lot of what made her look ‘perfect’ to the outside world was not enough for her. Her marriage was unhappy and her career was based on the pursuit of the American Dream, rather than her own wellbeing. Through a lengthy process, Brandy managed to get her personal life back on track. Today, she’s passionate about helping people fall back in love with their lives, in every area. Despite having a successful career as a clinical pharmacist that stretched 20 years, Lance Salazar realized he needed to make changes in his life after becoming a dad. Realizing that he wasn’t putting enough work into himself, or his marriage. Today, he works alongside his wife to help others make the same realization. He’s also dedicated to helping people improve their emotional intelligence. Start by cold-calling the agents listed in a local magazine or newspaper. You may feel awkward at first, but you have to stay consistent with cold-calling in order to start making contacts and creating your own database. Mentorship is vital (09:24- 11:26)Having a mentor or a coach is extremely important in business. Mentors help keep you accountable and ensure you’re following through on the commitments you’ve made. Coaching encourages you to share ideas with others and allows you to expand your mind throughout your journey. Be consistent in everything you do (18:30- 18:21)When you start branding yourself, make sure you’re consistent. For example, if you are planning on doing a web show or podcast to increase your visibility online, be sure to post once a week or as regularly as possible. Stay consistent and follow through. Consistency and networking are important for anyone entering a new field. However, seasoned professionals should also be sure to follow through on their commitments and keep growing as the industry does. To have longevity in your career, you have to keep adapting and never allow yourself to get too comfortable. Guest Bio- After graduating from college, Alexa Ward decided to try her hand at being a flight attendant. However, her father had other plans for her. Once he told her to join him at work, Alexa was hooked on the mortgage industry. Pregnancy and becoming a mom is a beautiful time—but it’s not always easy when it comes to clothing and fashion. Many expectant mothers find themselves alienated to a sad rack at the back of stores, with no good options to express their style. How is Storq providing a solution here, and what trends in the market inspired it? How do the founders of Storq make sure they stay true to their core values and make a difference for women? On this episode, I’m joined by the co-founders of Storq, Courtney Klein and Grace Kapin who share the story of their brand. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Changing trends and shifts in motherhood (02:44 - 03:13) The age of first time moms is increasing year after year, and there are more kids being born to mothers over 30. This is a market of women that are in the workplace and have more disposable income, but don’t always get the service and attention they deserve from the fashion world. How the identity aspect plays into motherhood (09:19 - 10:02) A lot of women experience a loss of identity when they get pregnant and have children. The world expects them to be fulfilled by motherhood alone, and they can be made to feel like something’s wrong with them if they aren’t. The Storq values and how they serve women (18:20 - 21:47) Pregnancy fashion isn’t always portrayed in a way that caters to comfort for women. This is what drove Courtney and Grace to build a brand that would become a solution-oriented resource for real women and mothers to get through their day without having to struggle with what to wear or feel invisible because of their clothing. It’s so important for us to build a world that is conducive to mothers so that they can feel celebrated, understood, and valued. The result is a world of moms who can find fulfillment in different places, and happier moms mean happier children, which is great for all of us. Guest Bio- After hearing countless complaints from friends and family about the lack of chic, simple maternity options on the market, Courtney Klein set out to create a one-stop online resource for chic and practical maternity essentials. As a former partner at design agency Hard Candy Shell, Courtney worked to build digital products for companies like Disney and eBay prior to launching Storq in January of 2014. Shortly after the launch, her pal Grace Kapin came on board as Creative Director. Having worked in fashion for nearly a decade, Grace immediately understood that pregnant women were overlooked by the fashion industry at large. A few months after diving into this project, Courtney learned she was pregnant with her first child. Four years in, the Storq team now includes three semi-productive, unpaid baby interns ranging in age from 8 months to nearly 4 years old and the company-wide napping policy is correspondingly permissive. Go to https://storq.com/ for more information.
Domestic violence leaves so many people suffering in silence. How can you identify if you’re being abused? When you want to escape a relationship, what should you keep in mind? What are some of the biggest misconceptions that further isolate abuse victims? On this episode, domestic abuse survivor, speaker, and author Rosie Aiello shares how she survived and why she’s empowering others. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode When you don’t know what abuse looks like, you can think you’re the problem (06:45 - 08:35) A lot of women don’t realize that what they are actually experiencing is abuse. It’s only when they know the signs that they can empower themselves. Until then they will think they are the problem and keep trying to make it better. Keep your escape private (17:29 - 17:46) When planning to leave an abusive partner, don’t tell them. If you do, they will only tighten the reins. This can put you and your children in danger. Observe the patterns of behavior (25:26 - 27:46) When it comes to an abuser’s behavior, there are patterns you have to watch out for. They tend to be narcissistic, they don’t take responsibility, they aren’t willing to change their behavior, and they are great to the outside world but awful to you. Abuse comes in many forms, and sometimes we don’t even recognize it’s happening to us. When we’re not being heard or given the love and respect we deserve, that’s a problem. The key to survival is being strong inside and learning what your value is. It’s possible to escape and finally live a life outside of the prison walls. Rosie is an incredible example of this. Remember: real love is kind, respectful, and understanding. Guest Bio- After a 25 year marriage, Rosie Aiello engineered an international escape to save her daughter and herself from domestic violence. Nearly mentally destroyed, within four years of arriving back in the United States, she reinvented herself since started her own business, and became a speaker, best-selling author and an international awarding-winning entrepreneur. Visit www.11hourstofreedom.com to learn more about Rosie’s empowerment program for women.

In real estate, we have systems in our businesses for transactions, but no systems for hiring talent. How does this put us at risk of hiring the wrong people? How did our guest go about building a strong hiring and training system? Why is leverage such a key element of a well-run business? On this episode, Matt Perry talks about implementing the Career Visioning model and elevating his team. That leverage piece was the biggest catapult for my business and for what I’ve been able to do. - Matt Perry Three Things We Learned from this Episode The skills of hiring don’t come naturally to a lot of real estate agents Real estate professionals don’t have HR training, so we tend to see the good in everyone. This gets in the way of who we hire, and can lead to hiring the wrong people or hiring out of necessity. A business won’t grow or succeed without the effort of strong talent No one succeeds on their own. You have to bring on talent to take tasks off your hands so you can actually grow. Strategic hiring breeds order and structure When you get to the level of leveraging people and hiring strategically with long term goals in mind, you’ll be able to better define roles and lead people properly.
