This week, Margo is joined by not one but two guests, mother daughter creative duo, Lori Siebert and Kenzi Elston. Lori has a very whimsical design sense and loves to play with color to give each collection that and she designs its own unique personality. She started taking private art lessons at the age of 7 and continued to study art throughout high school. This led to a degree in graphic design from the University of Cincinnati. Lori opened her own design firm, Olika Studios, just 3 years out of college in 1987 which has developed branding and design programs for influential clients such as Target, Bath & Body Works, Nickelodeon and Universal Studios. Kenzie is a born creative who loves color, pattern and all things floral. As the daughter of a graphic designer, she has been surrounded by creativity since she was born. Some of her earliest memories are crafting with her mom, making physical dolls out of her quirky childhood drawings and creating stories through tag team doodles. Growing up in a creative environment fueled Kenzie to follow her lifelong passion and pursue a degree in graphic design (she also attended the University of Cincinnati and even had many of the same professors as her mother). Now she works part time for her parents' design and licensing firm. When she's not illustrating, she is home with her 3 and 5 year old sons so you'll most likely find her slinging fake Spider-Man webs or making room sized blanket forts.   In this episode, Margo, Lori, and Kenzi discuss: How Lori's fearlessness landed her many big opportunities The right time to take on work that you may not be ready for Hiring and growing an agency and design firm The importance of community and collaboration Advice for designing products The ‘puppy in the window' hiring technique How to manage comparison traps And so much more!    Resources & Artists Mentioned: Chris Sickles of Red Nose Studio Chair Whimsy ArtBizJam Artists Rising   Connect with Lori & Kenzi: https://lorisiebert.com http://www.instagram.com/lorisiebert.studio/ http://www.pinterest.com/lorisie http://www.facebook.com/lorisiebertstudio https://www.instagram.com/snippetsofwhimsy/ https://moitoistudio.com/collections/kenzie-elston Sign up for Lori's Weekly Newsletter

Have you ever paid attention to the assumptions we have in our conversations with different people?  Often when we’re listening to another person tell their story, we’re listening for the things that we want to hear rather than what the other person is trying to show us at that moment. This bias blocks our listening fully to the other person.  Lori Joubert takes us on a deep dive into the art of listening and how we can listen towards a better world of understanding. In this episode, Lori talks about her idea of what good listening is, the importance of being heard by people and equally hearing them and their stories. She also speaks about what is at stake if we don’t keep moving toward a listening culture. She explains how she practices being present and also shares insights on how you can become part of the solution – how you can practice listening as a powerful tool for people to experience in life.   Lori Joubert is a dedicated coach, facilitator, trainer, and Certified Listening Professional with over 20 years of experience leading and managing groups and individuals with an emphasis on listening. She received her degrees in Speech Communications from the University of Washington.  Since then she has taught, modeled and promoted good listening in several arenas.  She has served on the board of the International Listening Association (ILA) in different roles, recently as president. Lori brings a deep desire to serve and a commitment to seeing all sides of every situation. She enjoys bringing people together for the benefit of building healthy and successful relationships. She is naturally curious about people and passionate about listening as an essential human activity. Her big vision is to really sustain people’s connection through listening and continue to build listening more through genuine and meaningful relationships. She believes that by being part of a community that wholeheartedly believes that listening has a meaningful and powerful place in organizations and in our life, she’s able to live life better and be of help to others.   “Silence is not inactive; it’s actually active. There is a lot going on within the silence that we underestimate all the time...a lot of good listening is happening in moments of silence.” – Lori Joubert Grow Your Listening Superpower for Lasting Impact! It helps you adapt and become a better listener.” – Lori Joubert “Don’t give up. If you’ve gotta handle on something that’s working in the way you listen, or you see others are listening, or the way you see listening is being taught in your organization, stick with it, carry on, and keep looking at how to make it grow.” – Lori Joubert Notes/Mentions: Kate Murphy’s “You’re Not Listening: Here’s What You’re Missing and Why It Matters” International Listening Association (ILA)    Connect with Lori Jubert: lori.joubert@listen.org Website: https://listen.org Linkedin Connect with Raquel Ark: www.listeningalchemy.com Mobile: +491732340722 contact@listeningalchemy.com LinkedIn

Today on the Chronically Healing Podcast I was fortunate enough to talk to naturopathic doctor, Dr. Lori Bouchard! Lori and I had such a great conversation about natural medicine and how to fit it into your healing team. During our conversation, I dove into my experiences with conventional medicine vs. naturopathic medicine and how it was able to help me move forward in my chronic illness. This episode is not a space for bashing any type of medicine, but instead a safe space to talk about the importance of having a multidimensional team. Natural medicine, testing and digging into the root cause of your chronic illness is essential in fully healing or just feeling better on the day to day. I’m passionate about finding a functional, integrative and/or naturopathic-trained doctor to see if you feel like you can’t make any headway with how you’re feeling. We all know what we want in our dating life: to be in a great relationship. But what is stopping us from having that? Well, there could be a lot of factors but a major one could actually be us getting in our own way.    I'm really excited to have today's expert help us understand how we can stop sabotaging our own happiness when it comes to dating. Lori Gottlieb is a psychotherapist and author of not one but two New York Times bestselling books: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, which is currently being adapted as a TV series, and Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough. In addition to being an author in a clinical practice, she writes the Atlantic's weekly Dear Therapist advice column, and she's also the co-host of the new hit podcast, Dear Therapist, which I love listening to myself, and is produced by Katie Couric.    This is “Save the Date,” a dating survival kit from Coffee Meets Bagel. Each episode, our Chief Dating Officer Dawoon Kang will sit down with a guest expert to tackle some of your most burning dating questions and explore what it takes to ultimately reach your goals: going on great dates that lead to a lasting, serious relationship.   SHOW NOTES: Why do we go after the unavailable type [1:39]   Idiot Compassion vs. Wise Compassion [5:10]   Do you need to settle to be in a happy relationship? Situation, circumstance, and stories make us think we're unlovable and keep us imprisoned when we can walk around those bars and create our own story.” “We blame it on the availability of the significant other we're looking for if we can't find them. In reality, we may sabotage ourselves by going after people who aren't right for us.”   “We marry our unfinished business. When you're dating, it's important to know what business needs to get finished so you can pursue people who can provide the relationship you want.”   “Idiot Compassion is when we think we're being supportive by hearing a friend's story about a bad date or boyfriend and saying, ‘They're terrible. You were right, they were wrong.’”   “Wise compassion is what a therapist does. Female Leaders | Kicking Ass in a Male-Dominated Industry In 2004, Lori Rasmussen entered the family business and started learning the ins and outs of the automotive industry. Since then, she has assumed responsibility for all facets of the business, including operations, sales and marketing, finance, and strategic planning. Her company, PARS, offers transport solutions, vehicle services, license and titling, and storage management. And with her success, Lori has become a significant voice for female leaders in the automotive industry. Establish Who You Are The automotive industry is predominantly male, but Lori has worked hard to level the playing field. Ironically, there is more value in embracing your womanhood and holding your power than there is in acting like a guy to fit in. Lori faced discrimination because of gender, age, and nepotism simultaneously, so she had to find a way to establish herself. She needed to prove her worth in the industry, and show everybody what female leaders can do. Lori started working towards this goal by getting involved in industry associations and she is still actively volunteering to this day. Get Involved and Give Back Lori served as the Director at Large for the Automotive Fleet and Leasing Association and went on to become the president in 2011. She is also the chair of AFLAs Women In Fleet Management (WiFM) task force. It wasn't easy, but the associations enabled Lori to break into the industry and show her true colors in a group setting. Lori grew up around the industry and was a competent leader, but she was bogged down by self-doubt and criticism from her peers. What set her apart was her ability to use it as fuel. She rose to the occasion when her adequacy was challenged, and now she teaching other female leaders to do the same. About Lori Rasmussen Lori Rasmussen has been the president/CEO of PARS since 2006. In this role, she is responsible for all facets of the business, including operations, sales and marketing, finance, and strategic planning. Lori started at PARS in 2004 and oversaw the day-to-day operations and development of direct sales and operations strategies. She maintains active involvement in several women-owned business organizations and associations within the automotive fleet industry. She served as the Director at Large for the Automotive Fleet and Leasing Association (AFLA) from 2006-2008, served on the Executive Leadership Board from 2008-2010, served as AFLA president in 2011, and is the chair of AFLAs Women In Fleet Management (WiFM) task force. What You Will Learn: How Lori has been able to preserve her father-daughter relationship while running the family business How to overcome imposter syndrome and establish yourself in a male-dominated industry How Lori used criticism and self-doubt as fuel for success Why Lori chose to get involved in automotive industry associations Different ways Lori is giving back to female leaders in the automotive industry Resources: Website: https://parsinc.com/#/home Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PARSautomotiverelocation/

This children’s book writer and illustrator is the artist behind View from My Run, where she does scenes from along her runs in the same time it takes her to do the run itself. She indicates on her site that she has always been an artist but it took her 39 yrs to become a runner and a bit longer to marry the two together. Lori was successful in the business world as a Corporate Creative Director and then moved on to a career that blended her passion for art and children’s literature. We discuss the process Lori goes though in developing her books and the amazing process it takes to let the picture build the story with a limited number of words allowed in the genre of writing for children. As Lori progressed as a runner she found she was using her run time to problem solve in her business life and had a desire to blend the two together. From that A View From My Run was born, where she paints scenes from her runs in the same time that the run took. She has also now worked with the NY Roadrunners Club and others to help runners develop their artistic side. Today’s Guest Lori Richmond is a picture book illustrator in children’s publishing. She has appeared on Today, Good Morning America and CNN. She lives in Brooklyn NY with her husband and two sons. She runs and draws her runs in New York. What you will learn about: How Lori jumped, at age 39, from a 20 yrs career in a Corporate Creative Director role to go back to her roots as an artist. She built herself an 18 month exit plan that allowed her to return to a passion of art and children’s literature. The process Lori follows in developing a story idea into a picture book where the words and the story blend together into a cohesive whole. How Lori considered herself a fitness failure from childhood, but at age 39 she realized she also needed to take charge of her health in addition to taking charge of her business career. She was inspired by her sister and others in her studio that were runners, including one studio mate that wrote the first C25K program. Her first road race was a half marathon. We discuss how she blended running and art. Her inspiration was realizing her training was paralleling her art work and how she used her runs to problem solve in her artistic life. A photograph taken on a run across the Manhattan bridge inspired her to paint the scene and then realized that a good side project for her to relieve stress was to paint the scenes from her runs to marry the two together. We discuss the comparison trap, how we compare ourselves to others, rather than focusing on how we feel when we are doing an activity. You don’t have to be the best to get something out of it, the joy comes from the feelings. When you run, you have to trust your plan and training. When you do art, or any endeavor, you have to also trust your plan. You have to go forward from where you are, not where others are. Stay with your own compass and where you are in your own plan. We discuss how Lori paces her drawing like her running when trying to determine how to finish a scene in the same time as her run duration. She adjusts her strategy to use materials or details based on the time she has. The same applies to race strategy where she adjusts based on the times she is actually running vs a plan. How she has found that she sees her surroundings differently now that she is paying attention while she is running vs being so how we are so over scheduled and busy that we neglect to admire what is around us. Inspirational Quotes: Children are fearless in their artwork and use their imagination to draw the most beautiful vision they see in their mind. And then at some point we are taught that if it does not look like what you are drawing, it is wrong. When it is imperfect, that is what makes it yours. Concentrate on how you feel rather than what it looks like. Drawing is visually expressing your idea, and if you communicate, even with as simple as a stick figure, it is a success. The unfinished ones sometimes end up being the most interesting ones. I just wrapped up my three-week trip traveling through Europe and phew – it definitely rocked my world! Yes, the experiences were amazing, but as a person who loves her rituals and who has habits that are deeply engrained, it felt a bit daunting at first. If I would have taken this trip five years ago, I would have left 20 pounds heavier because I would have just given it the all-or-nothing approach. Anyone else?   The difference of taking this trip now? Even though my life was tipped upside down in terms of bedtime, food, drinks and activity, I made a conscious effort to figure it out. In order to do this though I had to give up the belief that it would be impossible for me to feel good and happy.   “In order to change a habit, you have to change a belief. And in order to change a belief, you have to change a habit.”   Spoiler Alert: I feel amazing! “Control freak” Lori went on a vacation of her own! And it’s all because I figured out how to let go and surrender.   Here are five things that help me change a limiting habit or belief”   You have to believe that whatever you’re desiring is possible for you. For me, it meant applying an abundance mindset to everything. I don’t have to eat ALL this amazing food or have multiple drinks because I know there will be more tomorrow and I can have some then, too. Gather evidence of why it’s possible. Look at the people and culture around you. Why can’t this be possible for me? Gather evidence of how you’ve been lying to yourself about the other belief to keep yourself safe. Look at why you’re afraid to believe something is different. Surrendering can be scary, but sometimes certainty can be worse. “Surrender opens the door to something that changes your life.” Do that new thing/habit/belief for as long as you need to until something shifts. It won’t happen overnight, but don’t stop just because it’s uncomfortable – keep at it.   I challenged myself the entire three weeks I was gone, but as I stated above, I feel great – and I ate and drank what I wanted and walked a ton. Will I keep up with the late suppers, nights and overall structure? Maybe about 30% to allow myself a bit more freedom, but my new rule of thumb?   “If it feels good, explore it.”   I encourage you to do the same by challenging your beliefs and doing it until you feel a shift, too.     -- In This Episode Lori talks about:   How Lori busted through her habits and beliefs Figuring out the art of letting go and surrendering Five things that go into changing a habit or belief   Resources:   Go to ATribeCalledBliss.com to find out the latest on Lori’s book and join the world’s biggest tribe book club A Tribe Called Bliss by Lori Harder Now available at loriharder.com/amazon or ATribeCalledBliss.com Join me on the A Tribe Called Bliss Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1571018952966750/   Check out my website at loriharder.com.   I’ll be honest…With my book releasing in a matter of weeks, it’s been really easy to become overwhelmed with all the tactical stuff and let my thoughts be led by fear. As a result, I’ve been literally praying for a reset. And, today wouldn’t you know, my prayers were answered.   I’ve had back-to-back podcasts scheduled this week and I was resisting my interview with Sarah Centrella… not because I didn’t want to talk with her, but because I had so many others things going on. I pushed through this resistance though and wow, am I glad I did. It was smack-dab in the middle of our conversation when I realized that this was the exact message and conversation about manifestation that I needed to help me reset and connect back to my why. It is always a mixture of work + magic, miracles, fear, leaning in etc.   So now I’m back on my path and fully committed to blazing trails for all those right now who need the support of like-minded women with the help of my book, A Tribe Called Bliss. We need to remember to always circle back to make sure we’re connected to our why, and if we’re not we must use the tools that will get us there.   “Support your soul and that will support everything in your life.”   Remember, you are not in this alone and when you’re struggling don’t forget to use your tools or reach out to someone who you know will help you reset your energy back into strength and love.   -- In This Episode We Talk about:   Women supporting women How Lori’s recent podcast helped her tap back into her why Lori’s new book, A Tribe Called Bliss   Resources:   Go to ATribeCalledBliss.com to find out the latest on Lori’s book tour. Lori Harder is a self-love expert, transformational speaker, cover model, the host of the Earn Your Happy podcast, and the author of the upcoming book A Tribe Called Bliss: Break Through Superficial Friendships, Create Real Connections, Reach Your Highest Potential. Lori has overcome a number of obstacles that most of us will never have to face, and she’s come out on top every time. She’s an incredible person, and I’m pumped to share her powerful story and belief with all of you.   In This Conversation We Cover: [6:00] How Lori’s unique upbringing affects her perspective on spirituality and the world. [9:30] Struggling with weight as a child (and overcoming it). [11:45] Dealing with anxiety. [17:30] Embracing “freedom” with bad habits. [20:30] The dark night that changed Lori’s life. [27:00] How Lori worked through her trauma. [27:40] Lori’s manifested dreams for the future becoming a reality. [38:10] The powerful belief that Lori has that most people don’t (and how she trained herself to believe it). [40:40] Earning your happy. [44:25] What Lori does for herself when she needs to feel better.   The Darkness Lori grew up in a very religious and restrictive family, exposed to a limited view of the world throughout much of her childhood. However, having that experience – and challenging it – has had a big impact on who Lori is today. Whether it’s your religious beliefs or the belief that you are unhealthy due to “bad genetics,” it’s hard to believe anything different if you are only ever exposed to one view. As a result of her environment, Lori was in fear all the time. When she met people with a different (and, at times, more loving) perspective of the world, she could not wrap her brain around some of the conflicting ideas… at first. Being exposed to wildly different ideas and working through that inner conflict, ultimately, gave Lori “massive perspective.” She dug deep into herself and asked an important question: What feels right for me?   Unfortunately, that wasn’t the darkest time in Lori’s life.   After graduating, Lori bounced from a straight edge religious background to a party lifestyle. She met a lot of interesting people and it helped broaden her horizons, but she also picked up a number of unhealthy habits. Then, one night in Cancun, she was separated from her best friend in a club. In her efforts to find her friend, Lori ended up in a cab outside of town. The man who brought her there intended to rob her and leave her there, and she struggled to fend him off for hours. Then, she had a moment – “a crazy, clarifying moment” – and she knew what to say. She humanized herself, and she told the man that God knew what he was doing and would forgive him if he brought her back. She drove back to town with a knife pressing against her neck, but she got back – and over the next few years, she started to transform her life.   A Tribe Called Bliss Today, all of the dreams that Lori manifested are coming true. It was a long, hard journey, but she’s starting to see the rewards. Lori believes it’s important to share this journey with others, bumps and all, because then they can see how much intention and time goes into creating happiness and living your purpose. It’s not always easy, and it takes daily planning, but anyone can do it!   If you want to dive deeper into Lori’s story and get a big dose of inspiration, you can pre-order A Tribe Called Bliss (releasing May 8, 2018). Today I talk about being authentic as it’s one of the most important things you can follow throughout your lives. But for a lot of us, we find ourselves struggling to attract and connect with the people who we want to connect with. Personally, I discovered later on that it was because I wasn’t showing up fully as myself.   I didn’t want others to see that I was anything but “fine” because I didn’t want to be a burden. Instead, to receive much-needed validation, I constantly put myself in the role of fixer and peacekeeper. So in order to start showing my true self, I had to get vulnerable and share more of myself to others (something I still have to make an effort to do).   “If we don’t risk vulnerability and rejection, we will never actually have authentic connection.”   It won’t always go well, but when you take the risk, you leave yourself open to attract a tribe of people who will act as a safety net for you when you do face your fears. In my book, A Tribe Called Bliss, Be Authentic is one of 7 sacred agreements to creating relationships (I read an excerpt from the book during this episode).   Becoming authentic is actually following your joy and what lights you up. When we’re not following that it often has to do with the relationships we’re in. And sometimes we have to weed out the inauthentic relationships that are keeping us tied to the version of ourselves that we think we should show up as.   “You can’t be seen if you’re not showing up fully you.”   It’s time to get vulnerable and take risks and peel back all the layers of the real you. By doing this you’re able to attract your own tribe and attract all the people you’re meant to attract. Put simply:   “Stop trying to fit in and start trying to be more YOU.”   Imagine the incredibly powerful shift and movement we can all make with we join forces for good that cannot be stopped. I’m so excited to get this shift started on May 8!   -- In This Episode We Talk about:   What it means to be authentic Discovering and weeding out inauthenticity in your life Attracting who you are meant to attract How Lori’s A Tribe Called Bliss book works  Resources:   A Tribe Called Bliss by Lori Harder Now available for pre-order at loriharder.com/amazon   Join me on the A Tribe Called Bliss Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1571018952966750/   Check out my website at loriharder.com.   This past weekend, I spoke in front of 10,000 people at Grant Cardone’s 10X Growth Conference. And while it was one of the most amazing speaking experiences of my life, it came with a ton of doubt, lack of clarity and more nerves than I’d ever experienced.   During the weeks leading up to this event and planning my talk, I struggled to find clarity. I panicked. With several big things happening this past month, I was stuck in my own head and nothing else could come through.   “Being busy can be the biggest curse when you’re trying to be creative.”    At this point, doubt crept in and I began to wonder how the hell I even received this opportunity. I knew I was meant to be there and share a message, but I questioned if they had the right Lori Harder. So, I did what I knew I needed to do.   I reached out to my Earth angels and asked for their support and confirmation that yes, I could do this, and yes, I was meant to do this. It helped so much. My talk fell into place and it was off to Las Vegas for the conference.   However, the day before the event I felt waves of sheer terror. Dizzy at times and feeling like I was going to pass out, I told my husband, “I’m going down.” He quickly helped me reframe with questions such as, “What are you excited about? What are you grateful for?” It helped a little, but I still felt shaken. That is until I stepped onto the stage and saw all of the people. I was instantly grounded and realized that,   “No vision is given to us if it’s not for us. We must have faith in that.”   When I pictured all of my tribe who supported me, my faith kicked in and I felt calm. I felt a part of me I’d never felt. It was one of the most incredible talks.   So, the moral of the story? Have faith. Take risks – even when it scares the crap out of you.   “Stop thinking that a mediocre life is going to make you happy.”   Everything you want is on the other side of fear. It doesn’t always feel good, but it’s not supposed to. Lean into that uncertainty and know that for all the lows we experience, we often experience an abundance of highs.     -- In This Episode You Will Learn:   How Lori overcame her anxiety around speaking in front of 10,000 people Why we need full-time faith Why we need to lean into uncertainty   Resources:   A Tribe Called Bliss by Lori Harder Now available for pre-order at http://loriharder.com/amazon Join me on the A Tribe Called Bliss Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1571018952966750/   Check out my website at http://loriharder.com.
