This episode goes beyond caring in a variety of different ways.First of all, most people don't care about themselves first of all! You are the most important person in your life and, if you don't care for yourself, you're in no position to care for anyone else. Not just that, if you don't care for yourself, you're currently missing and will continue to miss your own life. But we go further beyond caring in this episode because, it's only when you literally "go beyond caring" that all that's best starts flowing for you.In this context, caring is synonymous with wondering - "when will my Perfect Moment happen?" - which leads to worrying, which leads to frustration, which leads back into the dark vortex created by thought that divorces you from the here and now where, if you've gone beyond caring, you'll simply be aware of and embrace the opportunities or synchronicities that will allow all good things "fall into your lap".Laced with a few good, practical, stories - from people who, having gone beyond caring, have had their "ideal" scenarios "just happen" - this episode is like a user's manual on how to great your ideal life.

Angela Jaeger in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.amazon.co.uk/Feel-Famous-Punk-Diaries-1977-1981/dp/1955125570 I Feel Famous: Punk Diaries 1977-1981 is a girl's coming of age story set to the pulse of punk rock. The book tracks 17-year-old Angela Jaeger's exciting discovery of punk music and its accompanying lifestyle in 1977. A music enthusiast living in New York's East Village, Angela's story unfolds chronologically, charting her late adolescence in tandem with her transition from observer of the nascent punk scene to eager participant. Gradually becoming a nightly fixture of her neighborhood's vibrant underground rock milieu at CBGB and Max's Kansas City, by 1978 she had continued to fulfill her punk fantasy abroad. She followed the Clash on a tour across England, finally returning home in 1979 to start her own band. Angela encountered an impressive cast of characters on her adventures, including Lydia Lunch, Joe Strummer, Billy Idol, Klaus Nomi, and Sid Vicious. Laced with humor and wide-eyed curiosity, Angela's daily first-hand accounts take the reader on a personal journey not found in other punk histories. Additional commentary by the author provides context and further anecdotal material. The text is illustrated with the visual expressions of Angela's enthusiasm—her drawings of punk personalities and fans, previously unseen photos and ephemera culled from her personal archive—affording a unique insight into the relationship between the music, the media, and the audience. The diaries touch on a variety of themes including identity politics, downtown NY, anglophilia, fandom, fame, and fashion. Contrasting the stark black and white of 1970s New York with the exuberant beat-up color of a decaying London and its disenchanted youth, a lost era is brought back to life through a dedicated fan's own reportage. Creative, funny and endlessly cool, the result is an unprecedented perspective into an ever-popular moment in contemporary cultural history.

Barry gives fascinating insights into what it feels like to be immersed in the galaxy far far away as part of the crew. Dan cover's some accolades and awards, and Peter looks into the musical score of Nicholas Britell. Jez sets a rather unique icebreaker at the beginning which reveals that Stu is a little bit scared of Syril Karn's mother 'Eedy' (aren't we all?) however he'd also like to go for a drink and possibly sing Karaoke with her. Laced with magical reminders of Season 1, this is the podcast you need in your life.

Counterfeit pharmaceutical pills laced with drugs like fentanyl are a new global crisis according to a recent article in the journal Lancet. The fake prescription pills are often the same color and size as the original, making them virtually indistinguishable. In 2023 the DEA found that 70% of counterfeit pharmaceutical pills contained a potentially deadly dose of fentanyl. And while drug overdoses among young people were down last year compared to 2023, the number of young people dying of opioid overdoses is still double what it was before the pandemic. We'll talk to a parent whose son died of an accidental fentanyl overdose and with addiction experts about the crisis and what can be done to prevent it. Guests: Daniel Ciccarone, professor of Family & Community Medicine, UCSF Ed Ternan, founder, Charlie's Song, a nonprofit focused on fentanyl education and awareness Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, professor of pediatrics and adolescent medicine, Stanford University

***At the beginning I say "This episode will be short..." I changed my mind, about a minute later.***How often do we mistake social media activism for genuine political resistance? Join me on the Jack Hopkins Show as I share my journey from a lifelong Republican to a committed Democrat, challenging the performative nature of online activism within the Democratic Party. Through my experiences with social media "acid tests," we explore how emotional responses can pierce through societal facades to reveal true motivations and beliefs. This episode is a candid reflection on the complexity of human psychology and the habitual fronts we present in everyday life.(This episode is not linearly presented. I go in whatever direction is prompted by my thoughts. If you want a "Get right to the point" episode, this is not the one for you. If you are interested in listening to how my brain works, and how I can let it take me places...and just go with it, then you might really enjoy it.)What role does age play in leadership, and how should it influence our political decisions? We tackle this critical question, focusing on the implications of electing older leaders like President Biden and the responsibilities of Vice President Harris. By addressing the physiological, neurological, and psychological aspects associated with aging, I argue for honest assessments beyond political correctness to preserve democracy. Through a lens of transparency and accountability, we confront the power dynamics of anticipatory obedience and its potential to erode democratic systems.Authenticity in communication is more crucial than ever, especially in politics. Throughout this episode, I emphasize the importance of unscripted dialogue and genuine self-expression. Drawing parallels with individuals who've faced similar challenges, I share my personal journey toward embracing authenticity, stressing the value of honest engagement even when it challenges leadership. Together, let's explore the power of being true to ourselves and the impact it can have on fostering meaningful connections in today's political landscape. Tune in for an hour and 40 minutes of engaging reflections, and find liberation in embracing your true self.Support the showThe Jack Hopkins Now Newsletter https://wwwJackHopkinsNow.com

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow House Fiends to where house music resides. Hope all is well in your corner of the world. This mix took forever. Geez. I just couldn't get it right. The way that I wanted it to feel. This is the seventh attempt. Yes, LMAO. I cheated too. I stitched half of the 6th attempt with a new 40mins or so. LMAO.Each attempt had great moments and then pure shit!! I want to only post mixes that I'd want to listen to over and over again. Don't want throwaway mixes that no one gives a shit about. There's a beauty in this art form. The ultimate form of self expression. You can feel a DJ's energy and emotions.I feel the same way about DJ'ing live. Which is completely different than making a mix BTW. I'd rather have 30 people who love dancing to house music in front of me and we're making eye contact. Hi-fiving each other in the air. That's house music. I'd rather that then be at a massive event with thousands of people where no one gives a shit if you're spinning or not. Enough of my elitist house rant. LMAO. It's not important. What's reallly important is what you get out of a mix.Just at the end of this mix, did you enjoy yourself? Did you smile? Did you forget your troubles for an hour or so?If so, then my mission is accomplished.House music Baby. It heals. Washes. Refreshs. Renew. So you can go do life struggles and triumphs again

Methanol laced alcohol is thought to have killed five young tourists travelling in Loas in South East Asia. Among the dead are a british lawyer, as Australian teenager from Melbourne and two danish woman. It's believed they all consummed drinks laced with methanol, a potentially deadly substance that is found in bootleg alcohol. A New Zealander is among those who have fallen ill in the popular backpacking town of Vang Vieng. Two Australian backpackers who feel ill were reportedly given free shots of vodka at the backpackers hospital in the town. Tommy Walker is a journalist with extensive experience covering Southeast Asia, he spoke to Lisa Owen from Bangkok.
A Missouri woman has been arrested after allegedly giving her 14-year-old daughter a pill containing fentanyl, leading to the teenager's fatal overdose. Jacquelyn R. Powers, 35, was taken into custody last week and now faces charges of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, resulting in death, according to court records. Court documents identify the victim as "VT," though several media outlets have reported that Powers is the mother of the deceased girl. Authorities have not officially confirmed the nature of their relationship. According to the criminal complaint filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court, prosecutors allege that last month, Powers "knowingly acted in a manner that created a substantial risk to the life" of the teenager by providing her with a pill believed to contain fentanyl. The Overland Police Department's probable cause affidavit sheds light on the events leading to the child's death. On October 3, 2024, the 14-year-old complained to Powers about a toothache. Powers allegedly gave her a pill from her drawer, which she told investigators she believed was oxycodone from a past surgery. Roughly 10 hours after taking the pill, the teen was found dead. A subsequent autopsy confirmed fentanyl as the cause of death, with no trace of oxycodone in her system. Powers reportedly admitted to police that she had previously traded her prescribed oxycodone for pills her mother had purchased on the street. She claimed she had kept these pills in a drawer as a means of "protecting" her mother from potentially dangerous street drugs. When authorities executed a search warrant at Powers' residence on the 9500 block of Echo Lane in St. Louis, they reportedly found additional street drugs and other minors in the home. “This is tragic,” Overland Police Department Captain Jim Morgan told local Fox affiliate KTVI. “This shouldn't happen. She's 14 and had a lot of years to look forward to.” Powers is being held in the St. Louis County Jail on a $150,000 cash-only bond. She is scheduled for a bond hearing on November 19 and a preliminary hearing on December 11. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? A LOT has happened in my world since we were last connected, as I'm certain has been the case for you too. It feels natural to share the momentous moments of the last 18 months (give or take) since I was generously sharing with you. A reintroduction to the familiar ears and a big 'hello, this is me' if you've just found my work. Any great change in life comes with many growing pains, big learnings and of course letting go of a whole lot, all of which were the medicine of 2023. In this episode I fill in the gaps from when I was last here up until Nov/Dec 2023. From moving interstate, to purchasing an online business that later became a retail store, to moving house and our life in Byron, I share it all here. Laced with sweet lessons and bountiful gifts, 2023 was *monumental* in forging a new path for myself and my family. “Saturday Night Live” made Chevy Chase a star and after one season he left the show to chase fame and fortune on the big screen. After a string of hits and misses, it would take him nearly a decade to find the role he was born to play - Irwin M. Fletcher, investigative journalist in the 1985 comedy “Fletch.” Laced with razor sharp wit and breezy, deadpan charm, the film harnessed Chase's superb improv skills and delivered the most satisfying performance of his career. Life long friend Rick Craig joins Dennis to revisit this incessantly quotable comedy classic. It's all ball bearings nowadays! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Can you see the shape of your soul in the everchanging clouds? Your personal salvation in the giant expanse of sky? For the ensemble cast of characters that make up the prairie community at the heart of The Mighty Red, existential questions are constantly close to the surface. In her newest novel, author Louise Erdrich immerses readers in the Red River Valley of the North and the complicated lives of its inhabitants. Argus, North Dakota is a town framed by the 2008 economic crisis, the consequences of climate change, and the dynamics of small-town drama. Thrown into motion by a chaotic teen love triangle and fretting about the future, Erdrich's characters navigate impulsive choices, bitter secrets, and deeply rooted ties to their land and to each other. The Red River Valley is home to dark realities and glimmering hopes, twisting together like winding late-night drives along dimly lit roads. As resources dwindle and viewpoints shift, love and life lurch forward in splendor, catastrophe, and absurdity. Bonds in the community are born and bolstered, disturbed and questioned, broken and mended. Laced with tender humor and humanity in the midst of devastating environmental circumstances, The Mighty Red paints a layered landscape of ordinary people surviving fraught times. Louise Erdrich is an award-winning Native American author and poet whose writing spans novels, short stories, non-fiction, and children's books.
