This week we're joined by video game music expert Matt Ombler, head of music and gaming partnerships at Laced, to explore the incredible world of game soundtracks, from Sonic on the Mega Drive and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater shaping a generation's music taste, to Wipeout, Halo 2, retro sound chips, vinyl reissues and the growing importance of preserving game music history. Matt also shares stories from his journalism days interviewing legends like Nile Rodgers and Nobuo Uematsu, plus how he helped bring metal heavyweights including Howard Jones, Trivium and Polyphia into Cult of the Lamb's Hymns of the Unholy project. She just dropped her album LACED, but the real story runs deeper. From calling off her wedding and walking away from toxic love, to navigating industry betrayal and questioning everything… even music itself. And in the middle of it all, processing the loss of her cousin, a grief that shaped more of this album than anyone knows. This is about heartbreak, faith, identity, and finally choosing herself. So after everything… who is Morgan now, and what is she no longer willing to stay silent about?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. How is life treating you?Which part of the world are you from? Ever visit Toronto? Do you LOVE house or just dipping your toes in this sonic pond?Back in the day, you'd listen to 10 different hot local DJs spin the same tracks- it was incredible to see their stamp on house. Their sonic signature if you will.I was in love with house and DJing when I realised that it wasn't music in the sense of Mozart, but a form of self expression- participating in making a musical collage. Like a musical cut anc paste. You qet to pick vour favourite songs, how fast or slow, or how long you want to play it, which part of the song you want to highlight, whether you want to cut it up or laver it, whether vou want the feel to be smooth or charging, whether vou want... In this episode of the National Crawford Roundtable podcast the guys discuss the latest happenings with the Iran War and the temporary cease fire agreement. They also talk about Trump's profanity laced Truth Social post on Easter calling for Iran to, "Open the F***** Strait" and trolling them with, "praise be to Allah." How should those of us who support Trump handle and respond to things like this? And they take a look at the Artemis Moon circle, and share general thoughts on us going back to the moon, and addressing the conspiracy theorists who say we never landed on the moon.
We've covered four of Korn's "Big Five" album run from 1994-2002, and only one remained, the one that might arguably be their best: "Issues". Jonathan Davis gets sober and decides that Korn should be the new Led Zeppelin, and by that he means release an album every year. That lasted for one album ("Untouchables" would take 3 years and 4 million dollars), and it's this one, where they release "Follow the Leader", tour hardcore for a year, and then immediately his the studio for this one. It results in another slew of insanely good singles, a super tight album we both love, and a press cycle that was almost non-existent, as the press had decided they were done with them. No high profile features, poor album reviews, but one great, great album. If you want to hear us talk about more great albums (and let's be honest, lots of bad ones), support our Patreon! It's just $4/month and you'll get three new bonus episodes every month including last month, where Graham Wright from Tokyo Police Club joined us to discuss Reveille's debut album, "Laced". John and Graham grew up in the same Toronto suburb and we have a blast discussing that and the very B-Tier Reveille album. On Easter Sunday, Donald Trump, who claims to be a Christian, posted a very unchristian like message for the world to see. The message makes him look look unstable, unthinking and very unpresidential. It's bringing concerns about Trump's mental health status as he digs deeper into his Iran war with threats, expletives and a bravado that does not offer much hope for diplomacy. Here's his Easter Sunday post: "“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”Trump later clarified that Iran has an 8 PM Eastern deadline to reopen the strait. We welcome iHeart political analyst Gary Dietrich to the show to discuss this and more. President Trump delivered a doozy of a social media post over the weekend, using unusually profane language to let the world know there would be huge consequences for Iran if it doesn't open the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday night. Dr. Bo Kabala, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Tarleton State University, joins Ian to give his take on how the rest of the political world is reacting to this escalation.

Chuck Todd opens with the harrowing story of two F-15 operators who went missing over Iran and had to be extracted by U.S. Special Forces — a dramatic rescue the administration is now using to obscure the larger failures of a war that is clearly not going well, starting with the fact that Defense Secretary Hegseth's description of "uncontested airspace" was demonstrably false and raises the most important question nobody in the Pentagon wants to answer: why did we need a rescue mission in the first place? He catalogs a weekend of Trump's unraveling: a Truth Social post telling Iran to "open the fuckin strait, you crazy bastards," a seemingly deliberate insult to Muslims with a sarcastic "praise be to allah" reference, and an unhinged Easter morning rant that Todd challenges Evangelicals to defend — all while the Strait of Hormuz remains closed after three weeks of empty threats, energy expert Daniel Yergin has called this the worst energy disruption in history, and control of the strait now gives Iran more leverage than a nuclear weapon ever would. Todd warns that the world economy is far more interconnected than during the 1970s oil shocks and that even if the war stopped today, it would take a year to restore supply chains to normal. He highlights Republican Senator John Curtis of Utah challenging the very premise of the war and drawing a direct parallel to Vietnam's gradual escalation, notes that Congress has just three weeks until the 60-day War Powers clause kicks in, and excoriates lawmakers for doing nothing while Trump threatens Iranian infrastructure in ways that could constitute war crimes under the Geneva Convention — a framework Pete Hegseth clearly doesn't care about. He closes with a quick dissection of Trump's executive order on college sports, which he dismisses as a glorified press release with no enforcement mechanism, no controlling legal authority, and zero chance of surviving legal challenges — just another document designed to generate talking points from an administration so unpopular the public won't even side with them on an issue where there's genuine bipartisan frustration. Finally, Chuck hops into the ToddCast Time Machine to revisit the beginning and end of America’s participation in the Civil War & World War 1, and argues that the underlying disagreements of both conflicts have never been resolved. He also takes listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and weighs in on the latest in sports. Link in bio or go to https://getsoul.com & enter code TODDCAST for 30% off your first order. Then, Mike Pesca — the veteran journalist, podcaster, and host of The Gist — joins the Chuck Toddcast for a wide-ranging conversation that covers everything from the structural reforms American democracy desperately needs to why the NBA regular season is unwatchable. They dig into the emergence of the "never Trump media" ecosystem and argue that both parties have become fundamentally reactionary, with internal debates in each reduced to full resistance versus compromise. They make the case that partisan primaries are the single biggest driver of hyperpartisanship, that competitive districts would produce more reasonable candidates and debate which reforms could actually break the cycle. They note that if California's jungle primary produces a Republican governor, Democrats will reform the system within a year, and that with so many big-name Democrats in the crowded field, at least one major candidate needs to drop out before they cannibalize each other. The conversation shifts to what Democrats should do if they control Congress. Pesca argues that Democrats can't brand themselves as the alternative to the "do nothing GOP" and then do nothing themselves — a child tax credit expansion is something Democrats and JD Vance could theoretically agree on, and being seen as on the side of the consumer is both good policy and great politics. They zero in on surveillance pricing as the issue ripe for bipartisan action: airlines using your personal data to gouge you is gross and bills are already moving in state legislatures to ban digital price tags, though Chuck notes there are legitimate upsides to dynamic pricing based on supply and demand that shouldn't be thrown out with the bathwater. They discuss how consumer advocacy once gave news media enormous credibility and trust, how the public feels big tech has too much control over everything, and how creating a caucus of independents in the Senate could serve as a powerful fulcrum — since independent candidates shouldn't have to choose between Trump and Schumer to be effective. The episode closes with a surprisingly passionate sports segment where they agree that March Madness exposes how unwatchable the NBA regular season has become, that tanking and load management are destroying competitive integrity, and that urgency — the thing college basketball's single-elimination format delivers in abundance — is what creates truly great sports. Finally, Chuck hops into the ToddCast Time Machine to revisit the beginning and end of America’s participation in the Civil War & World War 1, and argues that the underlying disagreements of both conflicts have never been resolved. I started to party to house around 1991, but I got to hear tracks from '86 played at those old warehouse parties. This is a classic house mix from the test mixes vault that I heard recently and enjoyed, so thought that I'd share this mix with you. Enjoy this ride.__________________Thank you. Do you prefer a regular line level DJ mixer or a rotary mixer?I grew up playing on line lever mixers and am used to them.I've heard many house DJs say that they have more control with a rotary mixer and that they sound better when it outputs the audio.Everyone's journey is different. I got into the dancing and listening to other people DJ for the first 4yrs.Buying records next and then DJ'ing. Then throwing parties and trying to promote

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. Have you been having work weeks like you intended? Are you winning the daily battles within your own mind? Are you being your own Best Cheerleader?I decided at 49yrs old to stop any negative thoughts or self-talk. Recognise it. Stop it. Then displace it with house music or comedy. I didn't even try to fight it. I had low confidence in my will power. LMAO.I hope that all is well in your neck of the words. Thank you for taking a listen to our brand of house music. [We've loved this special art form since we were 14-15yrs old and now almost 52. We've gone past the stage where people might ask, 'Aren't you too old for...' by decades. LMAO].There are dozens of house DJs that I listen to, so I know that choice is abundant, so I appreciate it when someone would take time from their lives to check out a mix. It makes me happy thinking about people smiling and bopping their heads while driving or walking their doggies or working out or cleaning their homes to our mixes or any other activity. What was really cool the last few years were three separate friends blasting one of my house mixes in their cars and they were in some warm tropical paradise, Jaimaica, South America or Mexico and took short 1min videos and sent them to me. It was a great poor man's vacation. I could picture being with them in the heat with my music blaring out of their cars. House music is such a connector.__________________Thank you. Morgan Myles on ‘Laced': Turning a Broken Engagement into an Album, Surviving Nashville, and Staying Authentic in the AI EraIn this Curious Goldfish episode hosted by Jason English, singer-songwriter Morgan Myles discusses her upcoming album Laced (releasing February 13 on Galentine's Day) and the personal upheaval that shaped it, including calling off her wedding, buying and then selling a house with her ex-fiancé, and touring through the chaos. She explains how the album title shifted from Language of Flowers to Laced, describing lace as delicate yet resilient, and shares how she used her 20-foot wedding veil—taken to Joshua Tree two weeks after the breakup—as the album cover. Morgan compares Laced to her 2020 album Therapy, outlines the two-year process of writing 80 songs in five months and narrowing them to 12 for vinyl with producer Ross Hogarth, and talks about performing while dealing with stress, compartmentalizing, faith, and negativity on social media. The conversation explores how fans can support artists in streaming, emphasizing that actively searching for an artist and listening to full songs signals algorithms, and addresses the flood of AI-generated music and its impact on songwriters, demo singers, session players, and industry economics. Morgan shares her view of authenticity, discusses songwriting themes like gaslighting and the power of words, and explains protecting vulnerability by staying close to trusted people. She talks about writing with Gary Nichols, what she learns from his perspective, and highlights tracks including “Love Is Lonesome” and “American Sky,” which she wrote to evoke bipartisan hope while addressing phone toxicity, food chemicals, veteran support, financial education, school tragedies, and media hate. Morgan reflects on her positive experience on The Voice as valuable exposure, her goals of continuing to write, tour, and build her fanbase, and ends by sharing what she's curious about now—especially history and learning how to meditate.00:00 From ‘Language of Flowers' to ‘Laced': the veil that became the album cover01:09 Welcome to Curious Goldfish + quick listener survey on streaming & AI02:24 Meet Morgan Myles: survival, breakup inspiration, and authenticity in the AI era03:38 Ice storm in Nashville: weather chaos and keeping the lights on05:28 Laced release week + comparing the new album to Therapy10:32 80 songs in 5 months: choosing the final tracklist with Ross Hogarth11:55 The symbolism of lace: engagement, heartbreak, and women's stories13:33 Performing through pain: staying joyful onstage and handling trolls16:59 How fans can help in the streaming era: algorithms, full listens, and search intent21:06 AI in music: inevitable shift, lost royalties, and protecting the soul of songs27:29 Breaking Down the Album: Passion, Despair & Song Themes28:56 Why Words Matter: Songwriting, Gaslighting & Relationship Red Flags30:29 Vulnerability vs Self-Protection (and Handling Online Judgment)33:03 Pet Peeves & “Icks”: Attention, Alone Time, and Basic Respect34:09 Writing with Gary Nichols: Process, Perspective & Musical Authenticity37:24 “Love Is Lonesome”: When Love Hurts and How to Nurture It39:54 “American Sky”: Hope, Division, and a Bipartisan Message45:56 Where She's Headed Next: Career Goals, The Voice, and Staying Grateful49:55 Final Question: What She's Most Curious About (History, Meditation & Life)52:37 Wrap-Up: Album Release, Thanks, and Where to Stream

Some stories refuse to rest.High above the Severn plain, within the red-stone walls of Powis Castle, a presence once walked the corridors by candlelight — not to terrify, not to threaten… but to finish something left undone. In this episode of Time Between Times, we step quietly into the shadows of an eighteenth-century Welsh castle, where an old woman, a hidden chest, and a ghost clad in gold lace cross paths in the stillness of night. It is a tale of silence and listening, of trust placed in the dark, and of a spirit bound not by malice — but by duty. This is a story that lives in the spaces between — between rooms, between centuries, between the living and the dead.So draw closer.Lower your voice. And walk with me…into the time between times.

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. Gearing up for Christmas? Got your presents all ready to put smiles on some loved ones? One of the most beautiful thing about house music is that... If you haven't heard a track, then it's new to you.House tracks are not tied to time and don't sound outdated because of trends. There have been so many times per month that I buy a track that sounds FRESH and it's so incredible and then I find out that it's a decade old. There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many house tracks being made that it would be impossible to hunt down all the house music tracks ever made.____________________You can hear a familiar track, but/however, if the preceding track and the following track are interesting, then the two combinations that sandwich the track that you're familiar with gets revived/refreshed. It's a completely new experience. It's all about the combos. I dream in combos. Obsess over fav and newly bought tracks.I attempt to do this in this 1hr and a half house music mix. I hope that you enjoy it.Much love and respect.Thank you for listening to this mix. I appreciate you. You could have chosen to spend your time anywhere else you'd like. We had some great conversation and great laughs with Kashena Sampson, who started out how we did—singing with her sisters and putting on shows for her parents! She told us about her third studio record (released October 2025), “Ghost of Me,” and what went into making the album. We also talk about the elephant in the room—the hardest part about being a musician. Already celebrated by Rolling Stone for “evoking the best of Seventies folk,” Kashena Sampson turns a new page with her third record, Ghost Of Me. It's an album that pulls up herAmericana roots and digs deep beneath the surface, uncovering the darker indie sounds that once provided the soundtrack to Sampson's childhood. Laced with electric guitar, reverb, and synthesizer, Ghost Of Me offers a new backdrop for the songwriting and otherworldly singing of an East Nashville luminary who's never sounded more authentic. Sampson grew up on the move, living abroad with her family before traveling the world by boat, a gig that found her paying her dues as a cruise ship singer as a young adult. Thatdiverse upbringing is mirrored on Ghost Of Me, an album that spans genres, emotional depths, and astrological tides. “This is an album about ignoring the bullshit and doing what's authentic to me,” she explains. “Forget the rat race. Forget the bad relationships. Forget trying to please everybody. I'm tired of doing that. I wanted to do something for myself, and that's what Ghost Of Me became," she continues. "It's an album for me.” Be sure to check Kashena outhere: Website: Kashenasampson.com Band camp: Kashena Sampson Instagram: Kashenasampson FB: Kashena Sampson YouTube: Kashena Sampson

OG Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner's new memoir is here! “Golden Years: What I've Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV,” dives into Gerry's early life and career, as well as his marriage to his beloved Toni. But the lion's share of the memoir is focused on “The Golden Bachelor”: his casting, the experience of filming, the women he met along the journey, the cursed Golden Wedding, and, of course, all of the ways in which his relationship with Theresa Nist was seemingly doomed from the jump. We go into the memoir's juiciest claims and explore why Gerry still seems to feel so much bitterness towards his now ex-wife.
