Balancing on the razor-thin edge between the pedantic “what would REALLY happen if a guy kept slowly shrinking?” with “sure nerd, but let's still make it a fun story”, Jack Arnold directs a domestic drama, a survivalist story, and everything in between as he questions foundational questions of existing in his classic science fiction tale. Perceptions of safety, masculinity, and the infinite shift and fade in this allegory of manhood in the modern age. Join our Patreon and support the podcast! Previously, we discussed why mentorship matters and how to pick a good mentor. But your mentor is not your pro-bono life coach; the work is on you. That work is more akin to "apprenticeship." Being a lifelong apprentice means you learn through doing, through mistakes, through questions... and you never stop. But we're not talking about working in a printshop, for a silversmith, or a baker (though those all sound amazing). At as if you are an apprentice today. Ask questions. Seek guidance and get feedback on your work. Drop the notion of superiority and get engaged with learning... and maybe blacksmithing.
Have you ever wondered how some people's lives just seem to progress so easily where as others seem like they are grinding with no results? One of the biggest differences comes down to social capital. In this episode I'll chat about the definition of social capital, how to build social capital, and a few real word examples and their results.Building social capital is more than being friends with people, you need to do what's write and build a reputation as your reputation will follow you the rest of your life!YouTube version of the podcast:https://www.youtube.com/c/DimitriBiancoSupport great content like this by donating on Ko-Fi:https://ko-fi.com/fancyquantSupport the show (https://ko-fi.com/fancyquant)

In this episode we are exploring the specific topic of "What's holding you back from surpassing your goals?" This show was recorded at the end of a year (2013). Looking forward to a new calendar year this episode asks, "New year, new you? Or, same stuff, different day?" As we head into a new calendar year this is the perfect time to be brutally honest regarding your true intentions. Let's explore what really stops us from surpassing our goals. How do we get ahead instead of simply getting by? Have you ever known someone who waited their entire life 'for their ship to come in' or for their 'numbers to hit?' That is not who you are. You are alive now. You are going to take action to make today a life that exceeds your wildest dreams. You know that Langston Hughes was accurate that, "a dream deferred is a dream denied."
