- Ende der Fußnote...hier weiterlesen: https://apolut.net/die-logik-des-jokers-von-paul-clemente/ Hosted on Acast. Wondering what Penelope Featherington's life would have really been like as a "spinster?" What about newlywed Kate Bridgerton as a married woman? Or how about Lady Danbury as a widow? In our final episode of Beyond Bridgerton we speak with author and historian Charlotte Furness about the real lives of married, single and widowed women in upper class Britain during the Regency period and compare them to their Bridgerton counterparts. We explored what it really would have been like to look for husbands on the marriage mart, live an independent life like ambitious Eloise Bridgerton and how women lived through scandal and heartbreak in Georgian society. Through examples from her book Lady of the House: Elite 19th Century Women and Their Role in the English Country House, Charlotte chats with us about women in history who were instrumental in running estates such as Lampton Hall, Belvoir Castle and Shibden Hall and reality vs fiction of depictionsof these upperclass women in period dramas and historical fiction. May 1 was the first day of National Foster Care Awareness Month. The team at Comfort Cases wants to take a moment to thank and recognize all of the foster parents, foster families, youth who are currently in foster care and those who have “aged out”. Thank you to the CASAs and the social service agencies and workers who are doing their best. And thank you to YOU, our faithful (and new) listeners of Fostering Change. We produce this podcast for you and in support of all you are doing. Thank you for your comments and sharing episodes with friends, family and colleagues. We couldn't have asked for a better guest for this first episode airing during National Foster Care Awareness Month. Award-winning journalist Rob Henderson vividly recounts growing up in foster care, enlisting in the Air Force, and surprisingly attending elite universities in his raw coming-of-age memoir, Troubled: A Memoir of Foster Care, Family and Social Class.Rob's book was an instant USA TODAY Best Seller. In the book and in his interview with Rob Scheer (who is a Navy veteran), he discusses his pioneering concept of “luxury beliefs”: ideas and opinions that confer status on the Upper Class while inflicting costs on the less fortunate.Rob Henderson was born to a drug-addicted mother and a father he never met, ultimately shuttling between ten different foster homes in California. When he was adopted into a loving family, he hoped that life would finally be stable and safe. Divorce, tragedy, poverty, and violence marked his adolescent and teen years, propelling Henderson to join the military upon completing high school. An unflinching portrait of shattered families, desperation, and determination, Troubled recounts Henderson's expectation-defying young life and juxtaposes his story with those of his friends who wound up incarcerated or killed. He retreads the steps and missteps he took to escape the drama and disorder of his youth. As he navigates the peaks and valleys of social class, Henderson finds that he remains on the outside looking in. Rob Henderson is a columnist at The Free Press and his weekly newsletter is sent to more than fifty thousand subscribers. My guest today is Byron Tully, it's his second time on Talking Billions. I had the pleasure of having lunch with Byron in a Parisian brasserie not long ago. We had a delightful conversation on many of the topics we are both passionate about. Byron is the author of The Old Money Book - How To Live Better While Spending Less - Secrets of America's Upper Class. He's also written The Old Money Guide To Marriage, Old Money Style, and Old Money - New Woman. The Old Money Book alone has over 700 4-star reviews on Amazon and over 700 4-star ratings on Goodreads. Byron's popular blog at theoldmoneybook.com has, for the past 10 years, discussed topics of personal development and old money culture with a global community of followers. Byron is a grandson of a newspaper publisher and son of an oil industry executive. He's been an occasional guest on radio and podcasts. Today, we'll talk about his book Old Money, New Woman: How To Manage Your Money and Your Life - Secrets of America's Upper Class. A wonderful book I read hopping around Parisian cafes earlier this summer. Today: - We discussed the creation and intent behind Byron's book "Old Money, New Woman: How To Manage Your Money and Your Life". - Byron talked about the empowering role of money, especially for women, and the importance of 'the true nobility'. - We explored the significance of education and the concept of living life with a purpose. - Byron highlighted the need for toughness in life without resorting to negative behavior. - He elaborated on his amusing take on diplomacy and the value of patience in life's decisions. - We discussed the evolving role of women as economic decision-makers and the need to keep sudden wealth a secret. - Byron emphasized the importance of financial planning with the principle of Plan. Earn. Save. Invest. Spend. - We touched upon what it means to be wealthy and the critical role women play in leadership positions. - Lastly, Byron shared inspiring stories of successful women from history. We left the best for last, so stay with us until the end of the episode. ---- Crisis Investing: 100 Essays - My new book.
