Gold Coast genre bending punk outfit Radolescent bring together the best of the old music world and the new with their unique amalgamation of punk infused music coupled with a new wave mentality that has seen the band gathering hundreds of thousands of streams across the major platforms. After initially being unable to tour their debut album in 2019 because of the pandemic, Radolescent instead concentrated on the new wave of music tools to ensure their music reached an audience which led to national tours, festivals and sold out shows at some of Brisbane's most iconic venues. The band have returned with their new single Tough, a fiery punk ballad of sorts that addresses issues of trust in a relationship.Vocalist/guitarist Isaac Anderson sat down with HEAVY to discuss the new single."It's been really good," he said of the early reception for Tough, which was released last month. "We've been getting lots of good feedback. We're stoked to see it landing in heaps of people's playlists, it's probably one of our most popular organic songs with our audience. Pretty stoked to get it premiered on JJJ and the film clips been on Rage now, so heaps of good response."The term fiery punk ballad sounds a little too conflicting to be used to describe a song, and when HEAVY point out the words punk and ballad should never be used in the same sentence Atkinson smiles in agreeance."Yeah," he laughed. "We've been a punk band for years but as we're getting older we're probably chilling out a bit. I don't wanna swear my head off as much as I used to any more, I'm not as angry, so it's more of a ballad for us but at the same time it's really fast paced with a pretty ripping guitar solo at the end. It's a ballad. It's our version of a ballad, I guess you could say."In the full interview, Isaac talks about the slide guitar in Tough, the film clip and shooting it, future music, not being able to tour their debut album from 2019 because of COVID, their upcoming East Coast run of shows, making music for enjoyment and more.
The Recovered Life of Isaac Anderson, a well composed biography by Alicia K. Jackson, published by University Press of Mississippi.
Alicia Jackson joins co-hosts Noelle Shaw and Cyril Chavis, Jr. to discuss racialized assumptions about Africans and what it means for how Africans have had to navigate society. We lean on the wisdom of Isaac Anderson -- a clergyman in the CME, an educator, activist, and politician. They talk about racial categories in society, respectability politics, the independent African American church movement, the relevance of the Christian faith for endurance, and much more. Dr. Alicia Jackson is an Associate Professor of History at Covenant College and author of the forthcoming book The Recovered Life of Isaac Anderson. This project uncovers and restores the narrative of a pivotal leader in the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church and in Georgia's state legislature in the late 19th century.

Public theologian and activist, Shane Claiborne, says, "It's really, really difficult to understand that there is a God who is good when everything around us is so ugly and broken. And, it's hard to understand that there is hope and life after death when so many people are going, "Well, is there life before death?" and "If God really loves me, then why are my kids starving to death?" And, the incredible thing I think a lot of us have felt is, as we throw those questions up at God and we say, 'God, why don't you do something about the masses of our population that are living in poverty?' we felt God say, 'I did do something. I made you.' "And, for some strange reason, God's plan for salvation for the world is obviously Jesus. But the wild thing is that...maybe one of the greatest mysteries of our faith is that as Jesus left the disciples, he said, 'And now I am going to the Father, but you will do the same things I've been doing, and you'll do even greater things than these because I'm leaving you the Spirit.' That we are to continue to be God's mystical body...that God has no other [tangible] hands but ours, no other feet but ours. And, the strange thing is that our God does not want to change the world without us." [Excerp from Economy of Love by Shane Claiborne, Isaac Anderson, and Relational Tithe]
