Have you ever felt stuck or put something off because you didn't think you were ready? That's what I want to talk about with you today, because there are many of us who struggle with achieving a challenging goal we've set for ourselves, or launching a new venture, or chasing down that big dream. On episode 2, I spoke with Jarrett Samuels who is the founder of The Pursuit of Manliness, and he dropped some of the best wisdom you'll hear about what it means to lead with a confidence that's covered by humility. The big take away for me was the value of allowing yourself to be a beginner. And that got me thinking about times when I've had an idea that I was excited about, but right as I was about to roll up my sleeves and get after it, something happened. That excitement I had would be replaced with various reasons why I thought it might not work:- it's not the right time- that will take more effort than I can give right now- or there's probably someone else who's already doing it better…- and so on.I would give in to those doubts then start telling myself Maybe this isn't such a great idea. Before long I had completely talked myself out of pursing that big goal which left me with an overwhelming sense of loss and failure.I don't think I'm alone here. I've coached long enough to know that this happens to many of us.What I learned from Jarrett is that one way to overcome those doubts might be as simple as reminding yourself of this:It's OK to be a beginner.-------Confidence Covered By Humility is a podcast by James Mayhew for anyone who wants to lead their business, their team and their home with humble confidence.Connect with James on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesrmayhew/High Performance Workplace Culture Video Serieshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBGgrjEdy18&list=PL_CshlQDwEH7r-H281v9MkXSspjlihgmHWebsitehttps://jamesmayhew.com

Jase appoints Missy as the cloud in their relationship, because he relies on her for technology and her organizational skills. Al and Jase reflect on Phil's only rule growing up: "Don't you ever disrespect your mother." Phil asks why the devil would specifically target masculinity in America, and Jase recalls Phil's younger days, when his philosophy was centered on being physically tough and running barefoot through trees and rocks without showing pain. Phil called the practice, "Who's a man?" And the guys are joined by guest Jarrett Samuels, host of "The Pursuit of Manliness" podcast, to vigorously equip men for the pursuit of biblical manliness. When a man begins to pursue bettering himself, he quickly sees that growth is something which doesn't have a final destination. We are called to a lifelong pursuit of manliness and that's exactly what Jarrett Samuels believes in. Jarret is the founder of Pursuit of Manliness and leads men to be the best versions of themselves through Christ-centered teachings. 20 or 30 years ago, talking about Jesus would have been mainstream, but today it's obviously counter-cultural and it's exactly what we need.

Manliness is an incredibly hot topic right now. There is a whole online ecosystem known as the Manosphere, filled with guys ranging from so-called pickup artists all the way to those who run Christian ministries aimed at helping men pursue biblical manliness (our own friend Jarrett Samuels at the Pursuit of Manliness is doing great work in this are). The Art of Manliness is a massively-impactful website with a podcast near the top of the charts. Jordan Peterson, who encourages men to stand up straight with their shoulders back, has skyrocketed in popularity. Our guest today is Alex Rodriguez. Alex has launched a ministry that is uniquely focused on discipling and deploying men for Christ and his kingdom. We connected with him via social media months ago, and I (Joel) brought my son to one of his four-hour boot camps recently. In this episode, we will talk about the Men's Muster ministry, a man's place in the local church, the family and society, and how to develop the masculine mind. In addition to founding the Men's Muster, our guest earned his M. A. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Knox Theological Seminary. He's the Student Ministries Director at North Suburban Church in Deerfield, Illinois, and he's a husband and a father of four children. We've been looking forward to this conversation for a long time. To follow the Men's Muster or contact Alex about a biblical boot camp for the men at your church, visit themensmuster.org. What it means to be masculine has been bastardized to the point of becoming impossible for a consensus to be reached within the culture. Sadly, the situation within the Christian church today isn’t much better, as many of its men are relegated to navigating life without a firm grasp of what biblical masculinity entails. My guest on today’s podcast joins me to discuss why Christian men are missing the mark and what it will require of them to reclaim the masculinity they've been created with for a purpose. Jarrett Samuels is a Pastor who’s committed his life to pursuing biblical manliness, while also encouraging other men to rise to the standard of masculinity communicated in God’s word. Jarrett is a refreshing masculine presence within a subculture that’s littered with false bravado and alpha male caricatures. He writes and speaks with a level of genuine honesty and boldness of conviction I believe to be sorely missing among modern men. Listen in to our discussion as Jarrett explains what it is that brought him to the point of deciding to take his masculine nature seriously and what he’s discovered through his own reclamation of biblical masculinity.
