Send us a textAs a man who works with other men on issues of improving as men, getting better as husbands and fathers, and doing that with a foundation of Jesus, faith, and Christianity, something that comes up often are discussions about the core concepts of masculinity. Today is Maundy Thursday, which is also known as Holy Thursday. It is a significant day in this holy week, moving towards Good Friday, and the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. By the way, the word Maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum, which means command and is in reference to Jesus' commandment to love one another. Now you might be wondering, What's the connection here between Maundy Thursday and masculinity?---To get the Significant Man INTEL series, click here:https://SignificantMan.com/intel

In our house, we never lie. At least that's what I hear dads often tell me. But, is that true? Is it accurate to say that we never lie in this house? It's actually very common for parents to lie to their own children. And is that bad? Is it wrong every time a parent lies? Does it need to stop? Are you telling your kids these lies, and maybe not even realizing that you are? And where do we go from there? That's what today's episode is all about… so let's get started. We live in challenging times. Turn on the news or check the newsfeed and it seems like there is story after story of chaos, of war, and of disease and death. Then there are the stories of political unrest and economic unrest. Inflation is out of control. The future is so uncertain. It can seem like there is darkness everywhere you look. And then, bringing it in closer to home, for far too many men their homes are not the peaceful oasis they have hoped for. Inside the house there is fighting, there is anger, there is sadness, and there is confusion. It can certainly make things seem impossible to navigate. How is a man supposed to lead his family through all this? How are you supposed to do that in such a world? Where do you get the strength to do this? That's what I'm getting into on today's episode… so let's get started. Over the years of leading events for men and working with men, something common that comes up is questions about the Bible. There are so many questions. Who wrote it? When was it written? Who was it written to? How is it structured? What are the Old and New Testaments about? What are the individual books about? And tons more.Because of these kinds of questions, I've written a new book called the Tactical Guide to the Bible, available at Amazon right now. And in today's episode, I'm going to answer some of these big questions about the Bible. .. so, let's get started. Questions answered in this episode: What is the Bible? How is the Bible structured?Who wrote the Bible? When was the Bible written? There is so much more than one short episode can cover, exploring the Bible is a lifelong journey. Over the last several weeks on the podcast, I've been tackling some of the big and serious issues of mental health, men, and the church. If there is a topic that seems to never be, or rarely is, discussed in church, it is the topic of suicide. There isn't much that is more heartbreaking than suicide. And the impact is far more reaching than the one life that was lost. Family members, friends, co-workers, people in the community, and future generations are all affected by one person's choice.I'm in the middle of a series on Christian men, the church, and mental health and today I'm going to dig into this important topic of suicide and the church. I'm joined today by Mike Grimes as he shares his thoughts and experience of being part of the Significant Man Fellowship. We talk about how he has benefited from the group, changes his wife and kids have seen in him, the cost of being in such a group, and lots more. It's one thing to hear about a group from the person running the group – it's another thing entirely to hear from one of the members.Questions Answered:What is the Significant Man Fellowship? How have you benefitted from being in the group?Has your wife, and your kids, seen changes in you?Since there is a cost, how do you decide it if is worth it to be part of the group? Why should other guys join the Fellowship? The Significant Man Fellowship is an exclusive group for Christian men. Our goal is to support and encourage one another, without any judgment, to have the best in mind of the other members, to learn together, and to work on becoming the men that God created us to be.If you're interested in joining us, head over to the site and apply right now:https://significantman.com/the-fellowship

A common question is, when was the first official Thanksgiving in the United States? We know of the stories back to the pilgrims, but when did it become official? It's also common to wonder about the faith and beliefs of the founding fathers. Were they Christian? Did they read the Bible? What did they think about these big issues?Thankfully we have volumes of correspondence and speeches, and today I'm going to share what the first President, George Washington, had to say in the first thanksgiving address. Being outspoken with my beliefs has brought out people who are not in alignment with those beliefs. And that's ok. In today's episode I react to a couple comments that are somewhat typical of the people who aren't in alignment with what we do during our BASECAMP events. Years ago I felt the need to reply to each and every comment, but not anymore. There is no point in that. If there is something really vile, evil, or nasty, I'll delete those, but otherwise leave them up for people to read and reply themselves, if they want. Many men read the line in Ephesians about husbands giving up their lives for their wives, and that line resonates. As we're entering the Independence Day celebration here in the United States, I want to take a minute and address something that has come up from time to time in people that I've spoken with over the years.
