On this week's episode of Rooted Recovery Stories, Patrick is joined by the lovely, talented and hilarious Tayla Lynn, granddaughter of country music legend and icon, Loretta Lynn. All this and more on this episode! We would love to hear from you! Email us at ROOTED@PROMISES.COM About Tayla Lynn! There is a bright eyed enthusiasm to singer/songwriter Tayla Lynn that cannot be denied. There is a warmth in her voice, truth behind her piercing blue eyes, and genuine affection when she speaks of her history, her family and friends, and most of all her art. Born into one of Nashville's greatest musical dynasties, Lynn's passion for singing and performing was sparked from an early age watching Loretta Lynn and Ernest Ray Lynn. She was four the first time Loretta Lynn took her on stage. Signed to Skyville Records in 2007, Lynn's first major musical project was the trio Stealing Angels with Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Wayne. Her first solo project, The Ranch, released in 2016, was the culmination of a move across the country, addiction, recovery, a lot of hard work, and a dash of her grandmother, Loretta Lynn. She writes and sings her truth about love, healing, motherhood, and the coal dust that runs through her Kentucky veins. Lynn's album on Heart of Texas Records, 'Tayla Lynn sings Loretta Lynn', is available everywhere! Instagram: @TheCastCollective Twitter: @TheCastCollective About Loretta Lynn: Loretta Lynn has long been established as the undisputed Queen of Country Music, with more than 60 years of recording and touring to her name. A self-taught guitarist and songwriter, Lynn shook up Nashville by writing her own songs which tackled boundary-pushing topics drawn from her own life experiences as a wife and mother. “Coal Miner's Daughter,” “Fist City” and “Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)” are just three of 16 country No. 1 singles. Inducted into more music Halls of Fame than any female recording artist, including The Country Music Hall of Fame & Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was the first woman to be named the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year in 1972. Lynn received Kennedy Center Honors, a Presidential Medal of Freedom and was named recipient of Billboard's inaugural Women in Music “Legend” Award. With 18 nominations, Lynn has won four Grammy Awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. She has sold more than 45 million records worldwide. Still Woman Enough, Lynn's 50th studio album (excluding her 10 collaborations with Conway Twitty) became her latest. In it she celebrates women in country music, including a cover of “Keep On The Sunny Side” and a new interpretation of her very first single, “I'm A Honky Tonk Girl". #lgbtqia #trauma #recovery #podcast #mentalhealth #lifestyle #inspiration #purpose #therapy #selfcare #healing Keywords: trauma, recovery, podcast, mental health, rooted recovery stories, mental health podcast, trauma podcast, anxiety podcast, recovery podcast, coping mechanisms, nashville, domestic violence, trauma, podcast, interview, country music,

John Wayne's Grit lives on through the next generation – Meet his granddaughter, Jennifer Wayne. Jennifer is a tennis player, song writer, Amazing Race contestant, and band member of Runaway June. In this week's episode of the John Wayne Gritcast, Jennifer and her uncle, Ethan, discuss her career and how her values parallel her grandfather's. Jennifer takes us through her childhood, her father was a tennis pro and Jennifer played tennis through college. She started playing music with a boyfriend, saved up money, and moved to Nashville, with help from her aunt, Marisa. The music industry is not easy and Jennifer talks about getting knocked down and never giving up. They also talk about having the name of John Wayne behind them while trying to pursue their own ventures and discuss how that affects their pursuits. Jennifer realized her talents were in songwriting which led her to her first band, Stealing Angels. After they lost their record deal, Jennifer and her bandmate, Caroline, were asked to be on the show Amazing Race. They got 4th place in their first season and were asked to go on the All Star season where they placed 2nd by 4 seconds. 5 years ago, Jennifer Wayne and I got to race around the world w Cord and his brother Jet on “The Amazing Race.” Cord and Jet were “The Cowboys,” and they were the team EVERYONE feared. They were brilliant, efficient, incredible problem solvers, honorable, strong/courageous/fearless, no nonsense, lone rangers, focused, determined, and witty on top of it all. Neither one of our teams ended up winning, but we have a bond and stories for life (we share some great ones this episode). I’ve gotten to know his beautiful, precious wife Sara over these past 5 years and and have been so inspired by the way she shares her heart. Sara tells me the 7 year emotional journey and wait she and Cord had to endure to have their daughter Tulsa (Tulsa also makes some appearances this episode :), and how important it is to Sara to be a role model to Tulsa as a strong, capable, compassionate woman. She and Cord talk about what the Cowboy Code really means, and their secret to marriage. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

In the 5 years since forming, country trio Runaway June has captured the hearts of not only the fans, but the country music industry as a whole. That’s why the recent announcement of Hannah Mulholland’s leaving the group was such a shock. Remaining members Naomi Cooke and Jennifer Wayne suddenly had some big decisions to make and fast. After all, they have a lot of momentum going right now, and certainly weren’t going to let that slip away. They made their next move without hesitation, and added Natalie Stovall as the trio’s newest member. Now, the new line up for Runaway June, Naomi, Jennifer, and Natalie settle in with Crook & Chase for a Nashville Chat to give you a behind the scenes account of all the sudden changes, and how they’re going about moving forward in these uncertain times we’re all facing. It’s Flannel February Day 26 and Drew is going strong! In the What Are You Kidding Me stories, a teen goes viral for smacking his mom’s boobs, a high school coach was fired after his celebration speech full of f-bombs and a woman who’d been shot got a band-aid from one hospital but a second hospital found a bullet in her head. It’s Ash Wednesday and Fitz has a list of the hardest things to give up for Lent. In the Hourly Bulletin, another shooting in Seattle, the Washington Paid Family Leave Program is swamped, SWAT standoff in Everett, a full size Amazon Go is open, $11,000 reward in the 7-11 clerk killing and a Seattle man meets the man who saved his life. In Sports, NHL Seattle is giving free transit to/from games and upgrading the Monorail, Pete Carroll says Chris Carson and Will Dissly will be ready for the season. We discuss the latest on Coronavirus. Florida Georgia Line put out a video asking Carrie Underwood to sing with them.
Jen has been one of my best friends for over ten years. We have gotten into all kind of adventures together including being partners on CBS’s the “The Amazing Race” twice (season 22 and 24 placing 4th and 2nd). We talk about her journey from professional tennis to following her heart and not being afraid to fail when it comes to chasing her dream of music for the past decade. Currently she is on tour with Carrie Underwood and has a top ten single, “Buy my own Drinks,” with her Trio Runaway June. She has the courageous spirit of her grandfather John Wayne and never backs down in the face of challenge. She also is more stunning than a supermodel and has the spirt of an angel.
