Thomas Rhett has spent more than a decade at the top of country music, but this conversation goes far beyond music. We talk about fatherhood, marriage, faith, success, and the lessons he's learning in this season of life. Thomas opens up about raising five kids, protecting family time in the middle of a demanding career, and why some of the most important decisions he's made have been the opportunities he chose to turn down. This is a conversation about priorities, perspective, and making sure the people you love most get the best version of you. From Toradol shots and “rock docs” on the road, to AI tools like Suno reshaping Nashville, to cruise-ship horror stories and fans yelling requests at charity shows… this episode of Drive That in a Small Town goes all over the map in the best way. The guys swap stories about playing hurt on tour, getting hooked up by “rock docs,” demolishing Luke Bryan's band in flag football, near-disastrous 100-yard dashes, and getting smoked by a college women's softball team. They also take a hard look at AI in songwriting, the death of old-school demo sessions, and how quality songs still rise above the noise. You'll also hear heartfelt praise for John Morgan's heart for kids, a hilarious breakdown of Zach Bryan's infamous fast-break clip, cruise stories including the notorious “Poop Cruise,” a peek into publishing contracts and quotas, and a “Dip Shit” segment calling out bad audience etiquette, shady neighbors, and 5-minute voice texts. If you love small-town stories, country music, road-life chaos, and real talk about where the music business is headed, this one's for you. 02:00 Shoulder sling, cortisone shots and playing hurt on the road 05:03 High-ankle sprain, Toradol, and “rock doc roulette” on tour 09:12 Behind the scenes: how rock docs keep shows from getting canceled 11:19 Golf postponed, one-armed putting, and Def Leppard drummer jokes 13:02 John Morgan at Bethel Bible Village: connecting with kids and staying late 14:25 John Morgan's small-town roots and Chattanooga ties 14:42 Zach Bryan's legendary fast break: live reaction to the clip 18:05 Is he a team player or just a chaotic fast break? Nashville Country Music Recording Artist Kirstie Kraus's brand new single dropped April 3rd You Got That Lovin'. Yes, it's true. For a minute there I thought this song wasn't gonna happen.. We had a studio date booked with our third co-writer, and when things shifted, the whole plan fell apart. I started telling myself maybe it just wasn't meant to be recorded. But something kept pulling me back to it.. So I trusted my gut and walked into the studio with Mike Loudermilk—just the two of us—taking a chance on something that almost didn't happen. And by the grace of God, this risk turned into an amazing experience and something I am very proud of!Kirstie Kraus moved to Nashville in 2017 to further pursue her flourishing career as a solo recording artist and songwriter following her time in country-rock bands up in the midwest. The band she had started was named Thirsty Jones - her fans are now nicknamed The Thirsties as an homage to that period and a fun rhyming play on words to her name. Kirstie's unique music style is a blend of modern country with bluesy rock tones and funky bass lines bubbling under the surface.Since permanently relocating to Music City, Kirstie has toured across the US and internationally and has opened for some of country's biggest stars including Thomas Rhett, Kip Moore, LANCO, Eric Paslay, Brandy Clark, Walker Hayes, Pam Tills, Brothers Osborne, and Randy Houser to name a few. In 2023 her breakout year for the UK arrived with her playing the coveted C2C Festival at the O2 Arena in London. Her fanbase in Britain has grown considerably and her name further rose up the ranks with her 2023 duet single ‘Who Am I Gonna Love' with Thomas Kavanagh which rendered support from Apple Music, Absolute Radio, BBC Introducing, CountryLine Radio and many more radio and media outlets around the world. The last two years growing success was built on a standout 2022, which saw Kraus releasing her debut album ‘Yes You Can' which she supported with a six-month headline tour across America - the LP comprised 11 tracks including the hit singles ‘Bird', ‘Thirsty', and ‘Silver'. The LP was a roaring success and earned Kraus multiple accolades such as 7x nominations from the Best of Women of Country, and the Josie Music Awards (the largest independent music award show). Having been performing and writing long before the age of 11, Kraus understands the nuances of her artistry and through that, she is able to create songs that showcase her abilities and highlight her signature tone and personality. You only have to take a look at her back catalog and industry support for this independent artist to see that country music is where she belongs and that she is rightly taking Nashville by storm.#kirstiekraus #countrymusicrecordingartist #songwriter #yougotthatlovin #chrispomay #livewithcdptalkshow #barrycullenchevrolet Booking: contact@kirstiekraus.com Website: https://www.kirstiekraus.com/Tour: BandsintownLinks: SocialsMusic: ListenPartners: Amazon, RYZE Coffee ☕ (KIRSTIEKRAUS15)Host: CountryLineTVPresident: Music City Phins'25 & '24 RTR Song of the Year'24 Artist of the Year JMAsPre-Save 'You Got That Lovin' out Friday April 3rd!https://beacons.ai/chrisdpomayhttps://www.cameo.com/chrispomay book a personalized video message from yours truly! https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/chris... if you wish to contribute towards my media content on my You Tube Channel. https://www.barrycullen.com/

Nashville recording artist and country singer-songwriter Whey Jennings reveals his sophomore album, Baptized By Firearriving everywhere digitally on March 27, 2026 by Dirt Rock Empire.Baptized By Fire finds the Jennings family disciple writing and singing more songs about his own life's journey as a traveling troubadour, father, and man of God who was saved in 2020 during the pandemic from a life of drug and alcohol addiction.Reflecting his artistic ambitions, Jennings co-wrote several of the songs from first time songwriting sessions with Jim "Moose" Brown (Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Jimmy Buffett), Tyler Booth (Josh Turner), and Whey's second duet with The Voice's breakout country recording artist Karen Waldrup. Balanced out with heartfelt ballads, honky-tonk rockers Baptized By Fire is a well-rounded album of songs rooted in traditional country, blues, with some notable Americana vibes in style and instrumentation.Jennings and his co-writers' expertly crafted lyrics are combined with top-tier production from Producer Gary Carter (Kenny Chesney, Marty Stuart, Alan Jackson) and his team, recording the tracks at Danny Parks Long Hollow Studio and his own GC studio. Guitar work comes from Grand Ole Opry band member Danny Parks, piano and organs by Mike Rojas (Ricky Skaggs, Hank Williams Jr.), a multi-winner of ACM's Keyboard Player of the Year award, acoustic guitar by Joel Key (Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, and Toby Keith), steel guitar by Gary Carter, fiddle by Deanie Richardson (Del McCoury Band, Hank Williams Jr., Marty Stuart) and percussion by Garth Justice (Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire, Jo Dee Messina)."This album is close to my heart and I've never felt more at home with my music as I do now," Jennings said. "If you want to know who I really am as a person, the songs on this album present an open window to both my heart and soul as a songwriter."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

"If you want to know who I really am as a person, the songs on this album present an open window to both my heart and soul as a songwriter."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Ever wonder why certain songs follow you from ballparks to bar bands to late-night TV finales? We take a playful but pointed run at the “most overplayed song” ever with a live listener bracket that pits Free Bird, Don't Stop Believin', Sweet Caroline, Brown Eyed Girl, and more in a ruthless showdown. Along the way, we unpack what repetition really means, how stadium anthems, wedding playlists, and radio gold become rituals that comfort some of us and exhaust the rest. You'll leave with your hill to die on and a few hot takes from fellow fans to test your case. Before the sparks fly, we open with a rapid-fire look at Ella Langley, state champion dancer, voice-shifting surgery, a pellet gun for pests, bangs born from a bad haircut, and a one-pickle pre-show ritual that weirdly works. That personal color tees up a high-energy country news sweep: Lainey Wilson teams with Kevin Costner on The Grey House soundtrack beside titans like Willie Nelson and Shania Twain; Riley Green stretches into acting with a Yellowstone-adjacent series; Rascal Flatts hit RodeoHouston; Meghan Moroney and Ella Langley notch a chart milestone for women in country; Thomas Rhett welcomes baby number five; Luke Combs and Dierks Bentley map new tours; and LeAnn Rimes and Rodney Crowell drop fresh tracks. We also spotlight the Recording Academy's new Best Traditional Country Album category debuting in 2026—an overdue nod to classic songwriting and instrumentation. We round things out with a tight chart countdown spanning radio favorites and indie gems, a March 2016 flashback that tracks how we got here, and a lively mailbag: production vs. songwriting first impressions, dream guests (from Rick Beato to Mutt Lange and Kelly Clarkson), and the gear that changed everything as studios moved from tape to Pro Tools. It's a full-spectrum listen for country fans, music nerds, and anyone who has ever yelled “Free Bird!” at the wrong time.Episode LinksBob Bullock: https://jayfranze.com/episode28/Dave Jackson: https://jayfranze.com/episode53/Dalila Mya: https://jayfranze.com/episode102/Mark Badolato: https://jayfranze.com/episode140/Send a text Support the showLinks Jay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/ JFS Country Countdown: https://jayfranze.com/countdown/ Contact Contact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/ Socials Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranze TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jayfranze X: https://x.com/jayfranze YouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranze Services Services: https://jayfranze.com/services/ Books Books: https://jayfranze.com/books/ Merchandise Merchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/ Support Support: https://jayfranze.com/support/ Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/

Here is PART 2 of our episode with Lauren and Thomas Rhett Akins. If you haven't had a chance to listen to part 1, go back and do that first before you listen to this episode. I want you to get the full story of what God's been doing in their lives over the last year. They continue the story of moving their family to Uganda for 6 weeks. They were obedient in saying yes to God, and yet it was not the perfect trip tied up with a bow. There are still questions they have for God they may never get answers to, but I hope you'll listen for the thread of God's nearness through it all. You may not be sent to Africa for 6 weeks, but where do you see God continuing to ask you to trust Him even when it doesn't make sense? Where have you experienced His nearness when everything around you felt hard? Don't miss the conversation and processing we're going over on Substack this week either. I think the questions we're asking each day this week will really help you look for the places God's asking for obedience in your own life. You can find all of that spirituallystronger.com. You may know Thomas Rhett from his incredible country music career or Lauren from her beloved Live in Love podcast or book, but I want you to get to know (and hear) their deep faith today. When they called me and said, “We want to tell the story of what God did in our lives last year,” I knew we had to share it. As we talk about prayer this month, I want you to hear what perseverance and obedience in prayer looked like in their lives through this story.  Last year, they spent 6 weeks living in Uganda after sensing God telling them that's what they were supposed to do, and it wasn't the trip they imagined. At all. You're going to hear the entire story along with their journey over the last couple years of trying to figure out if they should grow their family (spoiler alert: Lauren is due any minute with their 5th!).  In these two episodes, you'll hear the power of prayer, the way God speaks when we make space to listen for His voice, the reminder that we're never alone, and the reality that obedience to God is never promised to be easy. You're not going to want to miss part 2 coming your way on Thursday.  And remember, head over to spirituallystronger.com today where we're processing what perseverance and obedience in prayer looks like in our lives.   . . . . Country took some wild turns this year, and we sift through every twist with one big question: what actually deserves the spotlight? We kick off by ranking the top country albums of 2025, weighing the case for Tyler Childers at the summit, poking holes in Morgan Wallen's lower-than-expected slot, and making room for Eric Church, Thomas Rhett, and a few traditional voices that feel older than retro yet strangely fresh. Expect strong opinions, sharper jokes, and a running thread about why some records stick while others burn out fast. The conversation opens up when we tackle the greatest male-female collaboration. Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers ultimately take the crown for chemistry and timeless storytelling, but not without a fight from Conway and Loretta, Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks, and even rock-forward duos like Lizzy Hale and Corey Taylor. That debate draws a line between technique and feeling: perfect vocals are nice, but songs that live in your bones win the replay war. We also break down how live-in-studio recording changes everything—from headphone mixes to “more me” monitor boxes—and why capturing a band in motion often beats the sterile shine of overproduction.Episode LinksTom Harding: https://jayfranze.com/episode30/Billie Jo Jones: https://jayfranze.com/episode98/Dalila Mya: https://jayfranze.com/episode102/Send us a text Support the showLinks Jay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/ JFS Country Countdown: https://jayfranze.com/countdown/ Contact Contact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/ Socials Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranze TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jayfranze X: https://x.com/jayfranze YouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranze Services Services: https://jayfranze.com/services/ Books Books: https://jayfranze.com/books/ Merchandise Merchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/ Support Support: https://jayfranze.com/support/ Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/

Nashville's songwriting community suffered a devastating loss with the passing of Brett James, a prolific songwriter who gave up medical school to pursue his passion for music. With 27 number one hits among his 500+ released songs, Brett's legacy includes classics like "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood and "When the Sun Goes Down" by Kenny Chesney. His story reminds us how the unexpected paths we choose can lead to extraordinary impact. We dive into the ongoing story of Farm Aid, Willie Nelson's fundraiser supporting farming communities facing economic pressure. The recent Minneapolis concert featured legends like Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Bob Dylan, continuing a tradition that has responded to agricultural crises since the 1980s. This episode of The Other Side of the Bell, featuring our own podcast host and trumpeter John Snell, is brought to you by Bob Reeves Brass. This episode also appears as a video episode on our YouTube channel, you can find it here: "Getting to know John Snell"   Who is the man behind the microphone?   You've been asking for a long time, 12.5 years and 138 episodes in fact, and today's the day: it's time to put John Snell himself on the other side of the bell!   John is the steadfast presence at Bob Reeves Brass, from the shop to the studio to the numerous conferences and events he attends every year. Many of you have met him in person over the years, and with our increasing number of video episodes, you have a better sense for what he's like.   Yet his story has only emerged in bits and pieces over all that time and all those episodes, and warrants the spotlight just as much as any of the wonderful guests who have stopped by the podcast since 2013.   And who better to interview John than the gregariously awesome Vinnie Ciesielski, who was himself a guest on The Other Side of the Bell, Episode #93 back in September of 2021.   Vinnie and John chat about how John grew up to follow in the footsteps of his professional trumpet-playing father, Keith Snell, yet forged his own path through his education, musical styles and interests, before a sudden complete career U-turn that proved to give him another solid professional foundation, alongside his continued passion for music.   And behind it all, for the past 20+ years, there's been Bob Reeves Brass. John talks about first meeting Bob and being taken under his wing, before returning with a law degree in hand to rescue the business, provide stability for Bob and his wife into retirement, and maintaining Bob's principled approach to business and customer service.   Thank you to Vinnie for encouraging the idea and bringing this episode to life, and thank you to all of our wonderful listeners and viewers for your continued support.   Don't forget to share this and other episodes with your friends in the trumpet world and beyond, and send us your thoughts and feedback!
