We're back with the final part of our exploration of The Wildhearts, one of rock's most truly unpredictable and chaotic bands. If you thought last week's episode covered all their madness, think again cause we've a TON more stories in this one. Including a pretty grizzly tattoo story, so consider this a trigger warning for self-harm content. This time, we're focusing on the mid-to-late years of their career, a period filled with controversial albums, internal meltdowns, and some truly bizarre stories. From an album that even the band hated to a festival riot they actively encouraged, The Wildhearts somehow never did things the easy way. We explore: The controversy around Fishing for Luckies and why it was re-released multiple times The implosion of the band in the late ‘90s and their never-ending lineup changes How Ginger Wildheart rebuilt the band from the ground up more than once The band's strangest stories, including hallucinated UFOs, body horror, and a food fight at Download Festival Why The Wildhearts never quite made it to the mainstream, despite being one of the most influential cult bands in rock We also attempt to answer some crucial questions: Did Endless Nameless ruin their mainstream chances, or was it just ahead of its time? Is Fishing for Luckies one of their best albums, or an overstuffed mess? Were The Wildhearts a punk band, a metal band, or something completely different? Episode Highlights & Timestamps 00:00 – Intro & Banter: More Groundhog Day jokes than necessary.01:07 – The Fishing for Luckies Controversy: A cash grab or a cult classic?04:25 – Endless Nameless & Their Most Divisive Album: Was this a genius move or career sabotage?09:10 – The Wildhearts' Internal Chaos: Drugs, drama, and why they couldn't hold a lineup together.16:02 – Ginger's Grossest Story Ever: The marshmallow arm incident (not for the squeamish).19:24 – UFO Sightings & Conspiracy Theories: A night of hallucinations, tequila, and unexplained lights.20:55 – The Download Festival Riot: Why The Wildhearts encouraged 80,000 people to throw things at them.26:00 – Why Their Songs Are Too Long: Do they have too many ideas for their own good?33:40 – Their Legacy & Influence: Why they never broke through but remain a beloved cult band.49:00 – Final Thoughts & Outro: What we learned from this absolute rollercoaster of a band.

The nu metal revival is alive and well in 2025, so much so, that iconic bands from that era are returning to delight long-term fans, while gaining a whole new audience who have yet to experience them. One such band is Northamptonshire, UK's Defenestration. A five-piece who were active between 1999 – 2004, releasing three studio albums (One Inch God – 2001 / Ray Zero – 2003 / For Us it Ends When We Drown – 2004) and one split EP, (Year of the Slug with Scurge – 2002). Not only that, but they also toured all over the world with the likes of Raging Speedhorn, Napalm Death, Biffy Clyro, The Wildhearts, Skindred, and so many more iconic bands. So popular were they, that they opened the Wembley Arena leg of the 2001 'Tattoo the Planet Tour'. A set of shows that included Cradle of Filth, Static-X, Biohazard, Slayer and Pantera. Twenty years after their last live performance as Defenestration, the original members reunited for a ‘one-off' performance. Supporting Raging Speedhorn, the show was to raise money for record producer Russ Russell who was unable to work due to illness. This would be followed by another benefit gig for Russ Russell later in August 2024, Defenestration's first headline show since 2004. The itch was back, and another set of shows with Raging Speedhorn all but confirmed that there was a desire for Defenestration to return as an active band. Which is where we find ourselves now. Defenestration has reformed, is under new management, and is in the process of solidifying their legacy, while looking to the future too. This is what we discuss with vocalist Gen Tasker, getting excited about what the future might bring, while also spending plenty of time look back at their immense history too. These beasts are wild, how about their hearts? From the minds of Omega Force, the developers that brought you hordes of Dynasty Warriors, comes this decidedly different animal. In this action RPG, players must hunt one very nasty beast at a time instead of battling the typical tons of minions. To differentiate itself from others in the genre, this title includes a Katakuri mechanic, where players build mechanisms to help them traverse the environment and take down their powerful prey. Will a strong combat pedigree and layered mechanics allow this game to carve out a space for itself amongst the heavy hitters in the monster hunting genre? Tom and Chris will each dedicate an hour to see how it measures up and report back if it's worth your time! What do you think? Let us know! I am secretly delighted in ways I do not fully intellectually understand that the calendar year ends with a New Moon. My ancientness knows though. Feeds on the ways of natural cycles that follow no logical human order. One of the dear friends and some time mentor that reminds me of these soul nourishments is the fantastical Sarah Mooney. Sarah produces a weekly podcast called Mooney's Mythic Podcast. I would highly recommend curling up with her each week to be transported on rich and luxurious magic carpets of words She graced us all with her words for the Winter Solstice last season and returns once more for a glorious dive into the winter darkness within. We dare you to not get comfortable, to be niggled by your discomfort, and walk with us anyway through an ending that is also a beginning…

It is with gorgeous delight that I am happy to share another dear friend in the form of Irish designer for TV and Film Damian Draven agreed to co-create a Tea for us. He said 'while tapping into memories ushered by Betty's ingredients and listening intently to my heartbeat I was drawn to a rhythm that ebbed and flowed with the drumming of my ancestors. Then taking a pause, it was at this moment that clarity ensued me to write these words...' I encourage you to let yourself fall back into them, surrender to them, feel into what they awaken in your own inheritances. Damian is also a film director, contemporary artist and exhibiting member of the RGA (Reading Guild of Artists). As a journeyman he takes great inspiration and perspective from his travels for which he cites ‘Momentum is king because inspiration can come from anywhere or anyone but the trick is to look behind the curtain for a different narrative, a different energy...'. It was such an incredible experience to co-create this tea with Tracy Chipman. She is a quite profound Story Channel who can carry the medicine to such remarkable depths, traverse the Underworlds that many dare not tread or even contemplate navigating. A part of what makes these tea recordings feel so very special for me is that when we sit to speak them, neither of us knows what the other person is going to say. They will give me the title of the tea, I will let them know only the ingredients that have shown themselves to me and that is all we know of the other before hand. And yet they always feel so beautifully woven into being. Tracy Chipman, (she/her/they) MA is a healing artist, author, a TRE® provider and oral storyteller weaving with ancient & new experiences inviting us into deeper connections with ourselves and life. She resides in northern Wisconsin, occupying the traditional territories of the Ojibwe peoples. In March 2023 Tracy published her first book, Borealis Mundi - Resting in Place, Loss & Grace. She'll be collaborating with Jackie Singer in Oxford on November 10 facilitating a day-long women's retreat - Open Your Ear to the Great Below. More info and to register by November 8 here. For more about Tracy's work in the world, please visit her website https://www.tracychipman.net/ It took me some while to pull myself back into the everyday again after this one, take your time, be gentle, but do make take this extraordinary tea with us…

Today is a special day! I'm announcing my new group for animal workers, Wild Hearts Rising.   Groups are not a new phenomena and have actually been in existence for centuries. It wasn't until the 1930's when Alcoholics Anonymous started that group support started to look like what we now know as group programs.  My new group Wild Hearts Rising is more than just a group program; it's a sanctuary for those who dedicate their lives to the well-being of animals. It's a place where the quiet heroes—vet techs, animal caregivers, lab animal professionals, zoo/sanctuary/rescue folks—come together to reconnect with their passion and find strength in a community that understands their struggles. Here, wild hearts rise with a shared purpose, driven by compassion that goes beyond words. It's about rekindling the fire within, healing the healers, and standing strong for those who cannot speak. Together, we rise, knowing that our love for animals is what binds us, fuels us, and drives us to make a difference. Get all the info here: https://mailchi.mp/c8434ae6b7e7/wildheartsrising

She joins Nicole for a heartfelt conversation on the essence of human awakening and living as a spiritual being in this dense 3D world. She reveals how her personal struggles, including giving birth to a stillborn daughter and a near-death experience, led her to the profound realization that her path transcends traditional motherhood to include the divine nurturing of the collective. Lori's insights into self-mothering, unlearning societal constraints, destroying our culture of fear, and aligning with our “soul blueprint” highlight the power of inner trust and the importance of community in finding our purpose, or as Lori says, our own personal North Star, in this lifetime.
