John Spittle born and raised in Southern California started playing drums at the age of 5. His father was a drummer and started teaching him at an early age. Music was always a big influence in his household. By the time John was around 10 He would sit in with his dad's rock bands. Sitting in gave John the desire to want to do more. Victoria is what some people in the music industry would call a “unicorn” - she writes her best stuff completely 100% (meaning all by herself), and she has several accolades to her name including the Canadian Artist and Songwriter of the Year.  Some of Victoria's cuts include “Saints and Angels” by Sara Evans, “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” by Mickey Guyton, and the one-and-only Reba McEntire's most recent single, “I Can't”, and she shares the story behind each one of these songs.  In this episode, we also talk about how her song, “Saints and Angels” was edited and used as a post-9/11 anthem, “daring to suck” in co-writes, building a decade-long collaborative relationship with Mickey Guyton, teaching at Belmont where she can “be there for the beginning” of a student's songwriting career, and getting that Reba cut with “I Can't” 18 years after it was put on hold and seeing it debuted on The Voice. Victoria plays a verse and chorus of “Saints and Angels”, “I Can't”, and an emotional rendition of “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” There's so much good advice for aspiring songwriters in this one.. Recognized for her outstanding commitment to student growth and academic achievement, Evans is one of two recipients of the prestigious Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award this year. "Dr. Evans exemplifies KSU faculty's dedication to fostering student success," said Ivan Pulinkala, KSU provost. Her research covers diverse topics like crime, augmented reality, and resilient teaching methods during the COVID-19 pandemic. Evans has collaborated with about 200 students over eight years, integrating experiential learning and undergraduate research into her teaching. "I am honored to receive this award," Evans stated. Shane and Sara share stories of experiences in the music industry and working together on their own songs.   About Shane Stevens: Stevens has written for a variety of country and pop acts, including Sara Evans, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks, Ronnie Milsap, Jo Dee Messina, and Hayden Panettiere. Stevens has had multiple singles released to country radio and scored his first Billboard number 1 country hit, "American Honey," with Lady Antebellum in 2010.The song was co-written with Hillary Lindsey and Cary Barlowe.Stevens signed his first publishing deal with Famous Music in 2001 before signing with Major Bob Music five years later. Stevens co-wrote two songs with Rochelle and country music star Sara Evans for Evans' 2014 album Slow Me Down. He also co-wrote the only original song and title track on Evans' Christmas album, At Christmas, with Toby Lightman. He then contributed 4 songs to the 2014 Jesse McCartney album In Technicolor, including the second single, "Superbad." He moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to pursue a new direction as a writer, vocal producer, and artist developer in the pop and R&B world. That same year, Stevens founded his own publishing and artist development company, Holy Graffiti LLC, administered by Kobalt Music Group. The first act under his development, The Heirs, has been signed to Capitol Records and they released their debut EP, "Ecliptic," on August 28. For 2015, Stevens has contributed songs to several pop artists, such as "Everlasting Love," co-written with Victoria Monet and Tommy Brown, on Fifth Harmony's debut album Reflection; "Paper Doll" for Bea Miller's album Not An Apology; "Paradise" for Little Boots' album Working Girl; and At Sunset's single "Every Little Thing."   He's worked on songs for many popular artists, such as the track "Step On Up" from Ariana Grande's album Dangerous Woman. He also worked with Meghan Trainor on the song "Woman Up" from her second album Thank You and Toby Randall's song "Misfits." Two songs off of Martina Stoessel & Jorge Blanco's album Tini, "I Want You" and "Yo Te Amo a Ti," were written by Shane as well. Most recently, Shane worked on what Pop Crush has dubbed the song of the summer "What You Want" by The Heirs. He also co-wrote "Infinite Love" by country star Sara Evans & Chrisley Know's Best star Todd Chrisley, which was featured on the season 4 finale. In 2019, Stevens sold a country music musical to Paramount Pictures, where he co wrote the music with his childhood friend Karyn Rochelle. They share their journeys with love both for their partner and kids. Aimee and Sara take a walk down memory lane of their first time meeting and writing together, as well as Aimee's other hit songs.   About Aimee: Songwriter and Author, Aimee Mayo, grew up in Gadsden, Alabama, and moved to Nashville at twenty years old to write songs, which turned into waiting tables. When she was 23, she had Her first song on the radio "Places I've Never Been" by Mark Wills, and since then, her songs have spent twenty-six weeks in the #1 spot on the Billboard charts and albums featuring her songs have sold over 155 million units worldwide. As a teen, Aimee was surrounded by music. Her late father wrote hits for numerous country artists. Her brother Cory Mayo went on to write "You'll Be There," a hit for George Strait. Mayo is one of the few females to receive both BMI's Country Song of the Year, and BMI's Country Songwriter of the Year- putting her in the company of- Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, and Loretta Lynn. "Amazed," recorded by Lonestar that same year, is her most popular song to date.
