New episode out now! We watched the first episode of Inspector Morse, a staple of British detective television and inspiration for two further series. We dig into the character of Morse and how he is presented in the show, discussing how his interests and flaws are weaved into the narrative and also how he goes about solving cases with “unorthodox” methods. We like Lewis and appreciate his agency, enjoy the music and choral singing, analyze the character's living spaces, and debate how the morality of the 1980s drove the motive. We also talk about how the mystery is not spoon fed to the audience; the story was complicated and Morse got things wrong which was a surprising but enjoyable aspect, even if it made us confused. Katy accidentally slighted Jeremy Sumpter, Carrie enjoys live music performed well, Maddy longs for a quaint life, and Mack has opinions about handwriting. We talk about annoying puzzles, guess what American crime procedurals are popular across the pond, share stories about empty restaurants that may be fronts, and ask the age old question - gay or Oxford student? We also touch on real ale, repointing, sacred harp singing, and fish smells. And something quite incredible happens for the first time in the podcast's history…give it a listen to find out what! Enjoy! TW: death by suicide, binge drinking, blackmail, classicism, drug addiction, suspected incest Show Notes: Batman sound effect we used Link to short YouTube video about sacred harp singing by Awake Productions The episode of Endeavour Katy was remembering is series 1, episode 3, titled “Rocket”.

Welcome Goons to our Pride/ Father's day month here on Slashers Podcast! This June's event is where we discuss horror films that highlight the joys and terrors of fatherhood; or maybe just a fun episode celebrating pride, depending on what tickles our fancy this week. Plus we have a lot of daddies on the show, so why not? Today, Doug and Ade kick off our first Monday with 2002's Frailty. This one's so special because it is directed by and stars the late, great, Bill Paxton, and follows a mysterious man who arrives at the offices of an FBI agent and recounts his childhood: how his religious fanatic father received visions telling him to destroy people who were in fact "demons." The film also stars a young and adorably creeper Matthew McConaughey, as well as Powers Booth, Jeremy Sumpter and Matt O'Leary. If you haven't checked this one out yet, we highly suggest you stream it and then return to the episode! While it's not streaming for free, it'll only set you back $3.99 lol If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Odds and Ends: There Won't Be Nick makes its return with a brand new scoop; we get a bit spicy talking about the Matlida remake; Nick and Travis both have some hot recommendations, though “hot” carries different weight between them; T.J. finally saw the new season of Stranger Things (part 1), so we can talk about that now! So we do! Talk about it! We talk about the new season of Stranger Things! The first part! I don't know what I'm doing. Feature film: Back on the Depp train as we discuss Finding Neverland, a very by the numbers Oscar baity movie that still hits the right notes. For most of us, at least. Directed by Marc Forster, who might be T.J.'s most hated director for how much he reminds him of himself. It's about Peter Pan, could you not tell from the title? Wow, have you seen the Disney classic, or even Hook? Yeah, it's the same Peter Pan as the one in the movie with Jeremy Sumpter. God, why are you even here? We watched S04 E14: Brother From Another Planet! Homer and Bart get Big Brothers/Little Brothers, Lisa is obsessed with calling the Corey Hotline. Both talk first crushes: Bok's was Devon Sawa, and Claire had a crush on Jeremy Sumpter and used to kiss the DVD cover of Peter Pan, and Bok laughs about that for a full 10 seconds and stands by the decision not to edit it out. We drift into HacklessGate* territory in a spirited discussion on when the moon is not in the night sky. Who is right? technically both of us, but try telling us that. This episode was a bit meh, because Tom Cruise isn't in it. *HacklessGate is a discussion in a previous episode in which Bok basically gaslights Claire into thinking Chief Wiggum said 'Hackless' instead of 'Hatless' and was fiercely corrected on social media. Every day we try to do better. Except today.
Rachel Hurd-Wood is an English actress, she started her career playing the role of Wendy Darling in ‘Peter Pan' (2003) Along side Jeremy Sumpter and Jason Isaacs, this was followed by an impressive list of movies. ‘An American Haunting' (2005) alongside Donald Sutherland. ‘Perfume' (2006) alongside Allen Rickman and Dustin Hoffman. ‘Dorian Gray' (2009) along side Colin Firth and Ben Barnes, and ‘Tomorrow When the War Began' (2010) to name a few.
