The movie event of the summer has arrived! We saw Twisters in 4DX with motion-seats, wind, spraying water, vibration, smoke, and strobe lights! On a packed discount night at the Regal North Hollywood, Twisters proved to be the perfect 4DX movie that rocked our worlds for two solid hours. After sharing our recently rediscovered love for Jan de Bont's Twister (1996), we headed into the Pepsi 4DX with large Pepsis in hand. From the opening tornado scene, we knew we were in trouble. Twisters is directed by Lee Isaac Chung and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane. Deadpool & Wolverine unfortunately kicked Twisters out of 4DX, but if you somehow get a chance to see it in 4DX, DO IT! And if you feel it, chase it! We got twins!!

In 1996, a summer blockbuster movie blew into theaters and knocked everybody off their feet. That movie was “Twister” and starred Helen Hunt and the late, great Bill Paxton. Now 28 years later, we get a long awaited follow-up to that tornado-terrific, earth-moving box office hit, called “Twisters.” Now instead of Bill Paxton, the rapidly rising star Glen Powell tries to fill his boots. He plays Tyler, who calls himself a tornado wrangler who likes to go viral and peddle his merch. One of his phrases, as he tries to entertain his fans, is “You don't face your fears. You ride em'!” We also have Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate, who was a storm chaser until tragedy struck, and so now she stays out of the field. Just so the plot can move forward, she's coaxed back out into the wild, windy west to help some other storm chasers potentially save lives from a mass of tornadoes. All these characters bring their impressive and intricate modern day technology to this world of tornadoes, but no amount of tech will save you from the deadly, disastrously massive force of a tornado and the debris that it turns into lethal projectiles. Will Tyler take it too far in finding that rush? Can Kate do anything to give the people in the path of these fatal forces of nature a chance? Is it worth finding out? Director: Jordan Peele Screenwriter: Jordan Peele Starring: Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott Runtime: 2 hour 10 minutes Synopsis: The residents of a lonely gulch in inland California bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Jordan Peele's latest film, Nope, will probably be his most polarizing with audiences but that's a good thing. The reason being is that Peele seems to really enjoy proving that he really has no lane that he's staying in and he's going to continue to make ambitious films that are never exactly what you might think the film will be after watching the trailers. Peele's MO is to inject blackness into situations that folks might not initially think about. With Nope you basically get black cowboys, UFOs and then commentary around the modern idea of getting famous/rich by any means necessary. Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer have a great chemistry as brother and sister and are surrounded by a cast that is also very solid. Where this film might lose people is first with the editing. In typical Peele fashion, he purposely cuts between some scenes in awkward, weird ways to mess with the audience. Peele is king of showing something in his movies that seems completely unrelated but requires the audience to make the connections because he's not going to just flat out say it himself. The second thing that might be jarring for folks is that this film leans into some of that "high strangeness" that isn't typical for mainstream audiences and might honestly just be too weird for some audiences.  Overall, Nope is another win for Peele. It shows that he refuses to be pigeonholed into a particular lane and that he views all of horror as his bag. Peele has always been very good with visuals and audio and Nope is probably one of his best in that category.
