Today's guest is award winning film and television composer Roger Neill. Roger is best know for his scores for the films “20th Century Women,” “Don't Think Twice,” “Beginners” and for his work on television series such as Amazon's “Mozart in the Jungle,” CBS's “Mom” and the long-running Fox series “King of the Hill.” He's also worked extensively in the video game world on blockbuster titles such as Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Borderlands 2, and many others. He holds a PhD from Harvard University, he arranges and orchestrates for recording artists like Beck, Kygo, and Michael Jackson, is a multi-instrumentalist and world music enthusiast. We have a great chat defining the tone of a film, the importance of never being complacent, never tying your self worth as an artist to some one wanting to hire you, and finding inspiration by breaking patterns.

This time our guest is Andy Hall Hall - a Music Producer / Songwriter / Engineer, working out of his studio in Battersea, South London. He started his career as a guitarist & vocalist in bands, but soon turned his interest to production after co-writing The Other Tribe's summer hit song 'Skirts' in 2012. He's worked with some massive artists including James Gillespie, Bastille, Griff, Kygo, & Fickle Friends. He produced the majority of James Gillespie's debut album ‘Safe', including singles ‘What You Do', and ‘Beyond Today'. To compliment episode 25 (Cameron Gower-Poole), we get the perspective of another vocal producer; Andy has recorded vocals for Kygo, Griff, and Two Another, as well as the Marshmallo ft. Bastille smash hit ‘Happier'. We talk compression, recording on tour, the 00s UK port-hardcore (read: emo) scene, and colour coding your regions. The Process of Production is presented by Lawrence Diamond and Bob Matthews. Lawrence cut his teeth playing and writing in Indie bands before finding international success and touring the world with his band CITIZENS! During that time he worked with a host of revered producers including Liam Howe, Mark Ralph and Alex Kapranos. Since the band ended in 2016 he's been using that experience to help other artists develop their careers as a writer and producer while continuing to release his own music under various different guises. Bob learned his trade as the producer and multi-instrumentalist in Electronic Pop duo Alpines, whose career spans 3 albums, releases on major and indie record labels, shows with Florence + The Machine, The xx, Emeli Sandé, and a top 20 hit 'Tidal Wave' in collaboration with Sub Focus. In recent years he has turned his focus to producing other acts and has a studio in Chiswick in West London. Several years ago I nearly renamed my Sophisticated Morning mix series to Little Journeys.  I ended up not doing it because many of you talked me out of it.  But if I had....it WOULD have been fitting.  I have always looked at my mixes as, well, Little Journeys.  The newest Sophisticated Morning is just that;  a little journey. The first three songs belong loosely to an indie genre. I start the set off with one of my favorite vocalists, Emmit Fenn, whose voice drips with melancholy beauty before mixing into Kygo feat. James Gillespie "Gone Are The Days".  We all have those artists/producers/remixers that can do no wrong to us EVER, right?  Kygo is that one to me.  Everything he touches is...gold.  From there I finish that mini-set off with "Surefire" by Wilderado, a true indie band.  His voice aches with beauty.  I found these songs to be the best "soft launch" to stir interest and lead the listener off into musical bliss...From there I weave through a set of touching deep house heart-tuggers featuring the best of today's chill/deep house producers including Shallou, Tailor, Sultan + Shepard, A R I Z O N A and Le Youth.  During this middle set pay particular attention to Chris Howard "Lighthouse" (Track 6), Sultan + Shepard "Zima" (Track 7), A R I Z O N A "Moving On" (Track 9), Tailor "Holding Ground" (Track 10).  It's sometimes hard for me to classify favorite records. I love everything I play.  However, with those records mentioned above...they really all do belong in a class of their own.  The emotion they convey is next-level "heart music".  Rounding out the mix out I move into a more energetic sound that I will classify as "deep-heart anthems".  These are records that straddle the line between deep house, progressive house and trance.  I was going to mention my standouts for this set...but as I looked over the tracks I realized that every single one of these songs sends my soul soaring and are records that I would categorize as "next-level" in their beauty and production.  These are energy records that grab you...and SEND YOU FLYING.  Closing out in this manner really showcases my "little journeys" thought process.  As you listen and if you closely pay attention you'll notice that the ending records are nothing like the beginning ones!  And yet they mesh so beautifully and all seem as though they were made just for each other.  As always I mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give.  I'm a firm believer that each of us is placed on earth with a purpose and I believe that mine is to bring joy and beauty to a world that I think needs it through music.  My hope is that you'll receive my gift and use it to fuel your days (and nights).  Take it, use it, share it.  From my heart...to your  ears...#/Artist/Title/Remix01. We had a great conversation with actress Cassie Scerbo on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about so many things from her organization, her event Boo Ball, her career, sacrifices, she told some amazing stories to a whole lot more! We had the pleasure of interviewing Forester over Zoom video!Following up their spring 2022 album, Watercolor, the Los Angeles-based indie electronic duo, Forester (aka David Parris and Xander Carlson) return with the new single “All I Need” on Kygo's Palm Tree Records. “All I Need” takes a sharp turn from previous Forester releases, bringing a dose of filtered house and an irresistible chorus sample to the duo's signature organic electronic production. It's a summertime hit and then some. The accompanying music video shows the duo performing on an idyllic beach, and as the daylight turns into a picturesque sunset, the video follows a couple through a trippy and passionate dance party in the sand as the song's lyrics “You Are All I Need” echo behind them. Inspired by nature and the natural beauty in the world, longtime friends, Parris and Carlson launched the Forester project in 2019 and experienced immediate success with their debut single “Spark” which collected more than 5.8 million streams on Spotify. True to its name, the song was an auspicious beginning that caught the ear of an A&R at Kygo's Palm Tree Records, where Forester signed in 2020. The guys further developed the Forester sound, at 8,000 feet, at Carlson's family cabin in Mammoth Lakes, California, on the eastern slope of the vast Sierra Nevada mountain range. Musically, Forester fell into a dreamy, achingly emotional, and thoroughly sophisticated, middle ground between the indie folk of Bon Iver – a hero to both Parris and Carlson – and melody-focused electronic giants like Avicii. The music made in the mountains became their 2020 sophomore LP, A Range Of Light. Three albums down, Forester has now amassed over 75 million streams. A pillar of the project is the preservation of nature that's inspired them, with the guys donating a portion of the revenue from their first album to The Nature Conservancy, who used it to plant roughly 1,000 trees. Their ultimate goal is for their streaming to be at net zero carbon emissions. We want to hear from you!
