Tune in as Andy (Fat Dude Digs Flicks Movie Podcasts) slides back into his guest seat for a breakdown of Virtuosity, the 1995 sci-fi action thriller that sends a prisoner with a police officer background on a mission to stop a serial killer who's managed to escape his birthplace of virtual reality and is now terrorizing the real world. The investment that director Brett Leonard puts into VR through projects like Virtuosity and The Lawnmower Man, the lovably bonkers expanse of Russell Crowe's committed performance, the cheesy and dated 90s CGI in this cyberpunk landscape, and the missed opportunity to further flesh out the commentary on topics like incarcerated slave labor and police brutality stand out as a few of the subjects that this episode covers. Directed by Brett Leonard, Virtuosity stars Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Kelly Lynch, Stephen Spinella, William Forsythe, Louise Fletcher, William Fichtner, Costas Mandylor, Kevin J. O'Connor, Kaley Cuoco, Christopher Murray, and Heidi Schanz. Celebrities aren't typically huge fans of Modernist architecture. Most prefer a 1930's mansion or an Italianate villa. But there are a few, like Jennifer Aniston, Holland Taylor, Scott Caan, Kelly Lynch, Leonardo DiCaprio, and others who keep Modernist houses in the spotlight. Today we'll talk with Alison Martino, producer, historian, and preservationist, the Godmother of Old Hollywood and Los Angeles. Next up, Frank Sinatra expert Bill Boggs, and later, we'll learn about the Modernist town of Columbus Indiana from author Matt Shaw, with a new book.

Did you think it was one word too? Anyway Matt & Todd continue Neo-Western November to review the delightful actioner Road House (1989). Directed by Rowdy Harrington Starring: Patric Swayze, Kelly Lynch and Ben Gazzara We love this film, unironically, exactly for the over-the-top wish-fulfillment it truly is. It reminds us of the sort of "code of honor" from the old cowboy pictures we grew up with. It's no Lawrence of Arabia, or even Friday the 13th Part 2*, but it is Road House and if you don't love it, just watch it until you do. 'High' art? No. Elevating filmmaking? No. Awesome? Yes and that is what counts at TV/MR. We also talk a little about the Jake Gyllenhaal one (pretty fun!) Find us on Twitter if we're still there, Blusky and Letterboxed. _______________________________________________________ *Siskel & Ebert -- Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
00:00 Introductions 01:21 Zachary Radcliff 09:21 Tim Ballard 13:49 Mike Jeffries 20:22 Roadhouse 22:00 Grant Beth & Luke Polaske 24:42 Viewer Comments 26:42 Deadly Hammocks 34:25 Lily Allen —Zachary Radcliff is a proud, flag-waving MAGA white boy. He's also been arrested for being waaaaay too into kids. Like, Michael Jackson into kids. Funny, that. (Not funny that anyone is into kids, but the irony of a party that screams about gays/lgbtq/drag queens and the like always having members getting busted for really criminal things is hilarious.) Even better, he's a youth pastor, a graduate of Liberty University (the Jerry Falwell institution that substitutes reality and facts for Jesus), and performed at CPAC, the annual gathering of the worst people on the planet. Which means he fit right in. —Speaking of hypocrites… Tim Ballard, founder of Operation Underground Railroad and the lionized (fake) hero of the hit Jim Caviezel movie, “Sound of Freedom,” has six lawsuits against him for human trafficking. That's right, he wants to protect young girls, but once they hit eighteen, they're fair game for everything! (He's like the anti-Matt Gaetz that way; Matt is disinterested once they turn eighteen.) Again, it's (sad) funny how those that scream “VIRTUE!” are the least virtuous among us. —I don't think we set out to do an episode centered around awful humans, but that's how it turned out. Mike Jeffries is the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, and he has been indicted on 16 federal counts of sex trafficking and international prostitution. But there's a twist! He was trafficking… men! Who saw that coming? Apparently not those men. —As an aside, we discuss Kelly Lynch, Bill Murray, and her steamy scene with Patrick Swayze in the classic film, Roadhouse. —Grant Beth and Luke Polaske have bad parents. How do I know this? Because they raised garbage kids who act the victim when they're in the wrong. Those two d-bags went to heckle at a Kamala Harris campaign, and are now crying their hurt feelings regarding being thrown out. Losers. —We take a moment to duck into the live chat and respond to a few folk. —Erin Field is a wonderful woman who suffered a tragic accident. We use it as a jumping off point to make fun of big chimney, an evil industry too often ignored. —British pop star Lily Allen is on Only Fans… But her material isn't erotic, or naughty. Well, I take that back. Erotic is in the eyes of the beholder, I suppose. Feet. Lily Allen takes pictures of her feet… and earns more doing that than she does as a—as stated a moment ago—British pop star. Because Spotify doesn't pay. *** Sorry for this being released again, and out of order. The original got deleted somehow... sorry again*** Patrick Swayze's career hit its peak in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, cementing his status as a Hollywood hearthrob. In the span of five years from 1987 to 1991, he starred in megahits Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and this 1989 movie about a bouncer hired to clean up a rowdy honkytonk. Co-starring Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliot, Ben Gazzara and Kevin Tighe, the film was an instant Eighties classic despite not lighting up the box office and earning mostly-negative reviews at time of release. Roger Ebert wrote, “This is not a good movie. But viewed in the right frame of mind, it is not a boring one, either.” While it only grossed about $60 million at the box office, estimates on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray sales and cable/streaming licenses total north of $200 million. The film also earned a remake this year - which we'll be talking about next week! We're pulling up to the bar - and breaking it - with Road House! Sensei De Longis created and refined his “De Longis Rolling Loop” methodology based on five decades of European sword training with Maestro Ralph Faulkner, Filipino bladed weapons with Guro Dan Inosanto and Japanese katana with Kaiso Toshishiro Obata and Sensei Mathew Lynch. He often refers to the whip as a 'super-sonic flexible blade'. His unique methods utilize structure and alignment to produce explosive accurate energy with maximum efficiency and minimum effort and offers a variety of precision strikes and body envelopments at Long Range. The De Longis method also employs effective Medium and Close Range combative applications utilizing the companion hand as well as the Baton, Punyo / Pommel and ‘Big Loop' Thong for striking, redirecting, trapping and submission techniques. Sensei De Longis invited Senior Grand Master Ron Lew to join the exploration. This week on Fabulous Film & Friends we're leaping head first into the bone-cracking, tooth-spitting, throat-ripping and monster-trucking action of the Road House movies! Both of them! That's the original 1989 version directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, Kevin Tighe, Marshall Teague, Julie Michaels, Red West, Kathleen Wilhoite and blink and you'll miss him, Keith David. As compared to the 2024 remake directed by Doug Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Post Malone, Arturo Castro & Joaquim de Almeida. My tougher n' leather crew today is made up of Roseanne Caputi, George Young, David Johnson DMD and although we had to beg him back, the bruiser himself, Gordon Alex Robertson! Before we bite into all that throat-ripping goodness, the synopses: Road House ‘89 is an epic tale of real estate fraud, malfeasance, racketeering and monster truck mayhem when zen, philosophizing Big City club bouncer Dalton is hired by Missouri bar owner Frank Tilgheman to clean up his honky tonk club The Double Deuce. Getting top dollar of 5k a week, Dalton packs up and moves to the town of Jasper to get things moving. After beating up a few goons and cutting the pork out of the Double D, Dalton runs afoul of a local business tycoon, the most Italian looking Brad Wesley you've ever seen. Wesley wants the Double Deuce for his own purposes and he also wants Dalton's new girlfriend, the beautiful and brainy Dr. Elizabeth “Doc” Clay as his own. So Wesley's plan: KILL DALTON! Dalton enlists the aid of his friend and mentor Wade Garrett to help in the ensuing ruckus, but Garrett's skills are no match for Wesley's evil. Wesley kills Wade in doing so unleashes the raging raw brute force of a one man army that is…DALTON! Road House 24' basically follows the same plot as the original except it moves the locale to Florida and makes Dalton an ex-MMA star and gives him the first name Elwood. And speed boats take the place of Monster Trucks. And that's about it. Who wins the smackdown? Pain don't hurt, but this movie does (in all the best ways). Patrick Swayze's hair stars as the shirtless, chain-smoking philosophy major who beats up a lot of rowdy beer drinkers. And if that wasn't enough, there's Sam Eliot's moustache, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazarra, and wrestler Terry Funk all in a plot that would make Shakespeare jealous.Plus this week were also discussing our favorite fight scenes, the Domino's Noid, and Donny Osmond doing push ups. To celebrate the release of the new Road House on Amazon this week, Chris, along with special guests Justin and Addam watched the original 1989 Road House for the latest Everything Action Commentary.Starring Patrick Swayze as America's greatest bouncer, Dalton, he's hired to try and clean up the Double Deuce, a bar where "they sweep up the eyeballs at the end of the night". This week on Miami Vice: Vice gets involved in the adult film industry when a well-known artiste premiering his new snuff film, Death and the Lady, is accused of murder, not film magic. As they dig deeper, they wander through peep shows and art schools to get an answer... the beautiful blonde in the film turns up - twice! (Kelly Lynch) but, where is her lookalike? Crockett can tell by the eyes on screen, they're dead eyes, but the artiste, Glantz (CSI's Paul Guilfoyle) is too busy cosplaying as Willem DaFoe in To Live and Die in LA to have left any tracks. The DA (Miguel Ferrer RIP!) doesn't think a jury will convict with mostly circumstantial evidence, and Crockett refuses to ignore his intuition in this highly stylized episode. Happy news? Empowering Therapists Through Personal and Professional Growth In this enlightening episode of "Soul Care for Therapists," host Dawn Gabriel engages in a deep and meaningful conversation with Kelly Lynch, a seasoned therapist and coach who specializes in helping individuals navigate both their personal and professional lives with resilience and empowerment. Kelly brings a wealth of experience to the table, having not only walked the path of a therapist but also as a survivor of domestic violence and a former EMS personnel. Her unique journey has given her profound insights into the integration of faith and psychology, making her a guiding light for therapists striving to build sustainable businesses while honoring their own well-being. Discovering Resilience Amidst Personal Challenges Kelly opens up about her transformative experiences, shedding light on her own journey through a challenging divorce and her triumphant emergence from domestic violence. Despite these trials, she demonstrates how resilience and grit can be harnessed to propel oneself forward. Kelly shares, "We argued about basically everything, uh, but from beginning to end it was six months, which is really fast for a contentious divorce. So again, like I got really lucky with the pace that the divorce moved at, so then I could just move on with my life." Grit and Power: A Model for Growth Kelly introduces her powerful coaching model, Grit and Power, which acts as a roadmap for therapists seeking personal and professional alignment. The Grit model encompasses Growth, Resilience, Identity, and Training, all vital components of personal development. Kelly explains, "Growth is about how we practice resilience, how we create resilience...how we adapt to the world around us." She further delves into the significance of Identity and Integrity, emphasizing the importance of staying aligned with one's core values. The Power model complements Grit by offering a practical approach to addressing challenges, with the acronym representing Pause for Perspective, Observe and Organize, Work the Problem, Express the Impact, and Recover. Balancing Professional Growth and Personal Well-being Kelly's approach to growth doesn't solely apply to the professional realm; she extends her insights to encompass personal lives as well. She shares her own experiences of parenting a tween daughter and emphasizes the value of practicing self-care and boundary-setting. She says, "When we think about mental health skills, they're just the same. It's just putting it into a different context." Kelly underscores the importance of debriefing and self-care, drawing parallels between her EMS background and the necessity for therapists to discharge energy after emotionally charged sessions. Tips for Integration and Transformation For therapists and business owners seeking integration of their faith and psychology, Kelly's wisdom offers tangible takeaways. Embrace the Grit and Power model to navigate challenges with resilience and intentionality. Identify personal values and live them out with integrity. Practice self-care as you balance professional demands and personal growth. Kelly's upcoming book, which delves into the Grit and Power model, promises to be an invaluable resource for therapists and individuals seeking holistic alignment. In Summary: Aligning Growth, Resilience, and Faith Kelly Lynch's journey from therapist to coach is one of empowerment, growth, and alignment. Her Grit and Power model serves as a beacon of hope for therapists navigating their own personal and professional challenges. Through resilience, intentionality, and self-care, Kelly encourages therapists to foster growth, embrace their identities, and thrive in both their businesses and personal lives. As a survivor, coach, and mentor, Kelly's insights remind us that personal growth is a lifelong journey that can be both transformative and empowering.
