#SilentHillfilm #SilentHillRevelation #Podcast Silent Hill is a 2006 psychological horror film directed by Christophe Gans and written by Roger Avary, Gans, and Nicolas Boukhrief. The film is an adaptation of Konami's 1999 video game Silent Hill. It stars Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, Kim Coates, Tanya Allen, Alice Krige, and Jodelle Ferland. The film follows Rose, who takes her adopted daughter, Sharon, to the town of Silent Hill, for which Sharon cries while sleepwalking. Arriving at Silent Hill, Rose is involved in a car accident and awakens to find Sharon missing. While searching for her daughter, she fights a local cult and begins to uncover Sharon's connection to the town's dark past. Development of Silent Hill began in the early 2000s. After attempting to gain the film rights to Silent Hill for five years, Gans sent a video interview to Konami explaining his plans for adapting Silent Hill and how important the games are to him. Konami awarded him the film rights as a result. Gans and Avary began working on the script in 2004. Avary used Centralia, Pennsylvania as an inspiration for the town. Principal photography began in April 2005 and lasted three months with an estimated $50 million budget, and was shot on sound sets and on location in Ontario, Canada. The concept of the film is based on the idea of a city that exists in four different variations, presented in metaphysical, mystical and temporal aspects. Most of the monsters encountered in the film were played by professional dancers, only a few of them were created on the basis of computer graphics. Silent Hill was released in Canada on April 21, 2006, by Alliance Atlantis and in France on April 26, 2006, by Metropolitan Filmexport. The film theatrically grossed over $100 million worldwide, and over $22 million from DVD sales. It received generally negative reviews from critics, and Rotten Tomatoes summarized the response as "visually impressive, but as with many video game adaptations, it's plagued by inane dialogue, a muddled plot, and an overlong runtime". It earned four Fangoria Chainsaw Award nominations. A sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation, was released on October 26, 2012. Silent Hill: Revelation (also known as Silent Hill: Revelation 3D) is a 2012 psychological horror film written and directed by M. J. Bassett. A sequel to the 2006 film Silent Hill, it stars Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Martin Donovan, Malcolm McDowell and Carrie-Anne Moss, along with Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell returning from the previous film. It is based on the survival horror video game Silent Hill 3 by Konami.[6] Revelation's plot follows adult Heather Mason (Clemens) who, discovering on the eve of her eighteenth birthday that her presumed identity is false, is drawn to an alternate dimension existing in the fictitious American town of Silent Hill. Talks for a Silent Hill sequel began in December 2006, with Christophe Gans returning to direct and Roger Avary writing a script for the project. However, after Gans dropped out from directing and Avary was imprisoned for vehicular manslaughter, the project entered in a complicated production. Later, in early 2010, Bassett was hired to direct and write the film, replacing Gans and Avary. She had expressed her openness to fans' suggestions of actresses for Heather's role. On a total estimated $20 million budget, filming lasted from March to May 2011 in Canada, with the 3D RED Epic camera used for the process; audio mixing took place in France. Silent Hill: Revelation was released in Canada on 26 October 2012 by Alliance Films and in France on 28 November 2012 by Metropolitan Filmexport. The film grossed over $56 million worldwide and was received negative reviews from critics.[5][7] --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/doseofnerdacumen/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/doseofnerdacumen/support

It's Halloween Season and to celebrate we're dipping into our horror-esque movie queue. First up is "Silent Hill," based on the video game series of the same name. Honestly, people gave this movie crap for not being the most faithful adaptation, but honestly it's not a bad movie. The production design is legit and the effort is real. And now we all want to be undead nurses. We pair it with a cabernet from Juicy Hill that only cost $7.99. This may have been the best wine we've had at this price point. We also enjoyed the minimalism of the label design.Metacritic Score: 31/100 (but for reference the user score is 7.9/10)Movie Sync Notes: We rented "Silent Hill" on Amazon Prime. It's also available on Starz or on Hulu with a Starz premium subscription. Get in the car, loser. We're going to Silent Hill. That's right, the town littered with horrific nurse monsters and murderous enthusiasts of Egyptian architecture inspired headwear. I think we do a fair job of detailing the video game origins, to the Playstation game and its many easter eggs. Did you ever notice the street names referred to virtually every major horror and sci-fi author for a bajillion years from Stephen King to Ray Bradburry? We even get into unused material on the game disc that was planned, but never used. Shot under the name "Centralia," this film was directed by Christophe Gans. You may recall that Gans also wrote and directed HP Lovecraft's Necronomicon and Brotherhood of the Wolf. I was surprised to learn that the co-writer of Pulp Fiction, Roger Avery, wrote this film. Don't worry, this was before his prison sentence, which we get into! All of the music in the film, aside from one song, is derived from Akira Yamaoka's original soundtrack for the game. He also did the music for the incredibly fun possum video game, Rocket Knight Adventures. Because of this, I like to pretend these games are in the same universe. Our protagonist is Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black, Man on Fire, The Crazies) as Rose Da Silva. She is on a quest to figure out the reason for her adopted daughter's sleepwalkings and ramblings about Silent Hill. Sean Bean (007 Golden Eye, Lord of the Rings, Equilibrium) plays Christopher Da Silva. He was so good in the role, they actually added several scenes with him in it, so he could get more screen time. And before you ask, no- he does not die in this film, unlike Game of Thrones and nearly everything else. Laurie Holden plays Cybil Bennett, and damn she is boring. The character Cybil is a playable character in the Japan-exclusive GameBoy Advance text-adventure remake of the game, Silent Hill Play Novel. Jodelle Ferland is Alessa Gillespie, the sleepwalker who is kinda like a reincarnation of a ghost from a girl killed by religious zealots. She went on to voice the Little Sisters in the BioShock video game series. This week's "Hidden Track" is Doomstress with their song, Sleep Among the Dead. If you like the tune, you can find their music and merch at: www.doomstress.bandcamp.com. They were also on the new Women of Doom compilation vinyl from Desert Records.
