Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
This D23: Ultimate Fan Event 2024 celebrated The Sherman Brothers in a big way. They have contributed so much to Disney's legacy, so we wanted to take this episode to pay our own special tribute to them. Walt Disney hired Richard and Robert Sherman in 1960 to be the Walt Disney Studios ONLY in-house composers, and they worked on such classics like Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Parent Trap, “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room”, “it's a small world after all”, and hundreds more. Richard and Sarah give a brief history of the Sherman Brothers and share our personal stories meeting Richard Sherman. Then, sit back and listen to the entire “Road To Cherry Tree Lane: Walt Disney's Mary Poppins” panel, recorded at D23 2024. Disney music historian Randy Thornton hosted this panel in which he shares how Walt's daughters Diane and Sharon, Davy Crockett, Disneyland/Vista Records, and Annette Funicello were all crucial intersections on “The Road to Cherry Tree Lane ” and Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. You'll hear some great history, and also audio excerpts from the story meetings between the Sherman Brothers and P.L. Travers - writer of Mary Poppins books. If you watch this episode on YouTube, you'll see a slideshow of images to go along with the panel. Prepare yourself, because the tributes continue! During the D23 Disney Parks Showcase panel at The Honda Center on 8/10/24, Meghan Trainor stepped onstage to sing "Feed The Birds", and we've included an excerpt here. Today in Star Wars History - 8/19/1973 Happy Birthday Ahmed Best! For the Star Wars Prequels, Ahmed Best provided the motion capture and voice for Jar Jar Binks who was the first fully-computer-generated supporting character in a feature film. He also provided the voice for Jar Jar in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and has a cameo as Achk Med-Beq in Attack of the Clones. Ahmed returned to the Star Wars saga in a flashback to Order 66 in The Mandalorian episode, “Chapter 20: The Foundling,” He is the Jedi Kelleran Beq who saves Grogu. Best had previously appeared as Kelleran Beq when he hosted the children's game show, Jedi Temple Challenge. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. "The Sabered Hand" would have been an appropriate name for this episode rather than the foundling, as it's exactly what this episode will be remembered for, however it may have spoiled the surprise.. After an interminable wait the Poe Boys finally give the people what they want. That’s right. It’s the official announcement of Disney+’s R-Rated subsidiary DisneyX and its flagship Star Wars IP, Jedi Temple Challenge After Dark. What fiendish, depraved challenges do the boys have in store for an obstacle course show for grown ups? You’ll have to listen to more discussion about David Lynch than you should to find out! And! And! I didn’t even forget to put the episode out this week. And I’ve got plenty going on. Plenty. Puh... LENTY. Going on. It’s like, do one chore and two more will take its place, amiright? I mean, what is this chores, Hydra? Yeesh. Speaking of, I know I posted a poll on our Twitter about what book should I read and two out of three people (two people) said the Iliad but jokes on them (or you if you voted I guess) because I ain’t reading the Iliad. But I DID reread all of Ms. Marvel (Marvel, Hydra, keep up) and wow what a great series that is. What a treat. Man. That show has huge boots to fill. It’s still letting me keep typing. In fact I have over 2,900 characters left I can type. Like 1,000 characters ago I thought “oh I can max this box out no problem but now I’m looking down the barre of over 2,750 characters and I gotta tell you my resolve is FLOUNDERING. I mean, I got a lot going on. I gotta take out the recycling. I gotta eat dinner. I gotta edit the pod. No, wait, I did that one already. 2,500 characters. Yeesh. May the force be with me on this huh? What to talk about, what to talk about.... sports? No, no season finale of sports already happened. The weather? The weather! How’s the weather there? Rain here. They say snow but we’ll see about that. There all like “oh wow it’s going to snow” and I’m like “when” and they’re like “oh like 1AM or something” and I’m saying to them “oh, you mean WHEN I’M SLEEPING? Pretty convenient if you ask me. Pretty. Convenient. And then what? I wake up and there’s no snow and you know, YOU KNOW they’re gonna be like “oh it came and went you were a sleep baby.” Yeah right. Yeah freaking right. And don’t call me baby, you’re not my podcast cohost. What else? Pretty cold. Rain and cold. I mean obviously I guess if they’re talking about snow. Is the weather where you are hot? Dry? Is it a dry heat? Email us and let me know at poeboyspodcast@gmail.com. Nobody ever emails. I mean, everyone, EVERYONE ever emails, but YOU never email. Don’t hide it. I get it I’m sure you’ve got a lot going on and you think we’re too popular to notice little old you and wether or not you email us but you’re wrong. DEAD WRONG. We notice. And every week, EVERY WEEK, I search and I search through all of our emails for your name and I think “oh this is the week, this will be the week you email” and it never is. Thoughts in quotations marks. How we feeling about that? Honestly I don’t like it. To me, it’s, you know, every week I search through my email and I think oh this will be the week. You know. Like that. But you get folks throwing thoughts in quotes. Which is fine but you can’t quote a thought, you know? Oh wow my phone gave me a little pop up about enabling dictation, so that’s something. Oh man, I’m under 1,000 now. Talk about sports! Oh we and I got that dictation pop up again! Relentless! It’s like my phone can’t even keep up with my stream of consciousness prose. Is this what Ulysses is? I just keep doing this? I mean look I could. I think we all know I could. Like if I just say down and typed for like a FULL DAY, just non-stop click clack click clack and then at the end of the day was just like okay the end, would that be a novel and would that be Ulysses? I dunno. Calm down Joyce-heads I read Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. And Dubliners! And the Iliad! Wait, no, not the Iliad. But the other two. Man oh man. I am winded. I mean I went for a run right before this so it might be that. Yes in the rain and the cold. Fitness! Hm. If you read this email poeboyspodcast@gmail.com for an

American actor Ahmed Best is (no pun intended) best known for this role as Jar-Jar Binks in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. Earlier this year he returned to the franchise as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, host of the Star Wars Kids channel game show Jedi Temple Challenge. Unlike the 90's game shows it emulates, Jedi Temple Challenge is set in-universe. That means that we are to understand it is all taking place within the Star Wars universe as opposed to the real world. That being said, a lot of fans including myself would like to see Ahmed's new character appear in more Star Wars content, particularly live-action. We're back for another month, with Mitch still stuck inside due to the Lockdown in Victoria, and Joe due to the cold, snowy weather in Tasmania, so what better to do than game and watch the streaming services? Joe continues more "Minecraft Dungeons", while Mitch explores within 5kms of his house on "Pokemon Go", then we watch a bit of TV with "Modern Love" on Prime Video, try episode 1 of Season 2 of "The Umbrella Academy" on Netflix, and get way more into "Jedi Temple Challenge" than two men in their late 40s should. For movies we try the new hottness that is Neflix original "The Old Guard", as well as re-watching one of Joe's favourites, "Tuff Turf" and the "Men In Black" Series.
