Hey, Behind the Velvet Rope listeners! I'm dropping in with something I know you're going to love. You know Jesse Tyler Ferguson, right? Modern Family's Mitch, Broadway star, and all-around delightful human? Well, Jesse's got an amazing podcast called Dinner's On Me where he takes celebrity guests out for dinner at some of the best restaurants in Los Angeles and New York City. It's like being a fly on the wall for the most fun and fascinating conversations. The conversations? Juicy. Fun. And always filled with surprises. And let's be honest, who wouldn't want to listen in on dinner with Lisa Kudrow? That's right, —Jesse recently sat down with none other than Friends legend Lisa Kudrow and they got into something fascinating: how Lisa played Ursula, the quirky waitress from Mad About You, even before she landed the role of Phoebe on Friends. When Friends came along, NBC didn't want to lose Lisa's magic on Mad About You, so they made Phoebe and Ursula twin sisters to connect the two shows. It's such an amazing bit of TV history, and of course, only someone like Lisa could pull it off. To hear more about Lisa's time on Friends and Mad About You, plus the fascinating career moments that only Lisa could have, head over to Dinner's On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson. During his youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jesse Tyler Ferguson quickly discovered his affinity for the performing arts. Upon joining a local theater group, he found the stage to be a place where he could express himself fully. And when an opportunity arose to travel to New York City as a teenager, Ferguson set his sights firmly on Broadway. His career took off—early Broadway roles included in On the Town and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee—meaning that Ferguson had little reason to give much thought to television. And yet, the script for a new sitcom, called Modern Family, resonated deeply with him—and, as it turned out, with millions of fans. On this week's episode of Table for Two, the actor joins host Bruce Bozzi to discuss his early years on the theater circuit, the moment he recognized his on-screen chemistry with Eric Stonestreet, and the philosophy behind his own restaurant-oriented podcast, Dinner's On Me. Given his experience as the host of his own podcast, Dinner's on Me, it's no surprise that Jesse Tyler Ferguson is an expert at answering questions in a restaurant setting. On this week's bonus episode of Table for Two, the actor joins host Bruce Bozzi and discusses whether he prefers performing on Broadway or television, his favorite Modern Family episode, and the one word he'd use to describe Sofía Vergara.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week: it's Mitch from Modern Family! On screen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson brought to life one of the most beloved comic roles in recent years but he's also a Tony-award winning theatre actor, not to mention host of the wonderful Dinner's On Me podcast. Jesse was so easy to talk to - I felt I could ask him anything, and frequently did. We chat about his adolescent failures at sport when it seemed to be all his dad wanted from him, and this leads us into a deeply moving discussion about his own sexuality. The story of how his parents became aware that their son was gay is one that will stay with you for a long time - and although it contains its fair share of trauma, it is delivered, as ever, with Jesse's trademark black humour. We also speak about his inability not to read reviews and his abject failure to meditate (one I can relate to). Plus: fascinating chats about surrogacy, social anxiety and whether straight actors should ‘play gay'. As always, I'm desperate to hear about your failures. Every week, my guest and I choose a selection to read out and answer on our special subscription offering, Failing with Friends. We'll endeavour to give you advice, wisdom, some laughs and much, much more.
