In this episode, we explore two films that, on the surface, couldn't feel more different—but are deeply connected by their love of time, process, and the people who keep art alive. We dive into Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague, a playful and philosophical portrait of cinema in conversation with itself, and Eephus, a small-scale baseball movie that turns America's pastime into something closer to a meditation._____________________________________________Feel free to email at silverscreenvideopodcast@gmail.com with any comments or thoughts. In this lively Halloween episode, the hosts dive into their favorite bad horror movies, sharing personal anecdotes and humorous insights. They discuss a variety of films, from cult classics to modern flops, and celebrate the joy of enjoying movies that are so bad they're good. The conversation is filled with laughter, banter, and a sense of camaraderie as they reminisce about their favorite Halloween traditions and movie-watching experiences.
Sean Clark joins us in the Crypt to talk about his journey through the horror industry, from Horror's Hallowed Grounds and the Halloween franchise, to shaping the modern horror convention scene. We explore the evolution of horror conventions, highlighting the thrill and struggle of getting celebrities on board, building “25 Years of Terror,” and Sean's insider experience with the “horror elite.” We talk horror's golden ages of the '30s, '70s, and '80s, discussing the MPAA's role in shaping the genre, and the way conventions have evolved since the '90s, for better or worse. Sean opens up about his early days, his hesitations about joining YouTube, and the struggles and successes he faced on projects like Halloween 2 and Halloween 3. We also dig into recent horror headlines, debating reboots and sequels, Halloween, Exorcist: Believer, Alien: Romulus, and The Crow, along with original titles like Thanksgiving, LongLegs, Maxxxine, and much more. We share thoughts on today's horror “elite”, the tension between fans and executives, and horror's thematic shift to psychological scares with films like Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau Is Afraid. Beyond film, we discuss the rise of horror influencers and publications, “a*s-kissing" culture, and Sean's advice for up-and-coming creatives, stories from the convention circuit, and immortalizing yourself through creative work. —
October is peak season for scary movies, skeletons and all things undead. Welcome to a very "nostalgic" episode of IFG.This week we are launching alongside IFG, our new podcast HAPPY HOUR FLIX, or HHF!Our IFG series is, as you know, a nuts and bolts, inside look at how movies get made. HHF is a podcast where we sit down with a special guest to talk about a nostalgic film we love and love to talk about. Our show, which we are launching today in it's own feed, we also wanted to bring to you today on THIS feed as a special treat for you all. Of course, if this seems like an additional way you might be to enjoy all things movies, be sure to follow and subscribe to us over there, too - just search the title or click HAPPY HOUR FLIX. On today's IFG episode and our first HHF episode, hosts Steven Pierce and Matt Mundy chat about one the most beloved films of a generation, FREE WILLY. And sitting down with them today is none other than the troubled whale-lover himself and star of the franchise, Jason James Richter.Being Richter's first film, they dive deep into many personal experiences, including how he was "discovered", and what was more intimating - the orcas or Michael Madsen? Incredible stories of security on and off set... and we finally answer the mystery of just what WAS that sheet-cake, and was ketchup a normal condiment in Oregon in the 90's for cake?As always, we invite you to grab a beverage and enjoy the stories, and reminisce with us. Our friends over at Misguided Spirits help us design and bring to you the perfect cocktail to enjoy alongside all our episodes. This particular cocktail was designed by mixologist Lea Marie Logan from Belle Reve in NYC, aptly named the FREE WILLY!Here's how you do it:pinch of saltx3 cucumber slicespinch of mint 3/4 leaves.5 simple syrupMuddleAdd 1oz lime2oz MISGUIDED ginTop with soda water (preferred, Topo Chico if you've got it)And finish with x2 "Free Willy" spritz (aromatic spritzer of coconut oil salt water solution)Then bonus, rim glass with nori dust seaweedSit back, relax and enjoy HAPPY HOUR FLIX!HAPPY HOUR FLIX is produced by James Allerdyce and Lori Kay, and hosted by Steven Pierce and Matt Mundy.Main Title is by Johnny Mineo.HAPPY HOUR FLIX | Movies We LoveIFG | How Movies Get Made

Hey girlfriends! On today's episode we're discussing classic black problematic movies. We love a good black movie, especially from the 90's, but now that we're older and able to reflect, some of them while great have some issues we just can't ignore. We're taking a deep dive on: Love & Basketball, Soul Food and The Best Man; Reflecting on our favorite scenes, how they impacted the culture and much more! We'd love to hear your thoughts, too so make sure you follow us on Instagram @girlfriendsandgoalspodcast where we'll continue this conversation. Today my guest is Ted Perkins, who will be talking about his recovery journey through SMART Recovery and his new book “Addicted in Film: Movies We Love About The Habits We Hate.” It's a brilliant concept, and it makes so much sense when you consider how we all learn and relate through stories. Ted is a former Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Studio executive, university lecturer, public speaker, Hollywood producer, virtual reality entrepreneur, and successful working film and TV series screenwriter. He volunteers his time as an addiction and recovery YouTube personality and sobriety mentor. He has helped thousands of people on their recovery journey through his blogs, videos, and weekly SMART Recovery meetings. Before we jump in, I wanted to announce another resource for you which is a book review series I'll be publishing on TikTok @arlinaallen and Instagram, which is also @arlinaallen . Every single episode we do on the podcast mentions at least 2 or 3 books. I'm obsessed with books for a few reasons, not the least of which is the transformational ideas conveyed by experts who have typically spent thousands of hours researching, contemplating, distilling all the information, and writing about it in ways that can literally change your life in deeply profound ways. It's incredible to think you can gain all their information for the price of a book, which is typically less than $20. One of the things I always find myself putting on my gratitude list is all my teachers. Connect with Ted!
