Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs have contacted multiple high level guards in the NCAA transfer portal, but recently struck out on Paul Mulcahy (Washington) and Joe Toussaint, giving them a lot less options to work with as they look to fill the Malachi Smith role as a third guard on this roster.Jeremiah Williams, Noah Williams, and Jahvon Quinerly are all options previously discussed on this podcast, and other options could include Jalen Carey (Rhode Island) and DeMarr Langford (Boston College). We then talk about Chet Holmgren's excellent summer league debut, where he had 15 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks for the Thunder after missing the last year with a foot injury. Finally, we close out the show discussing new contracts for Domantas Sabonis (five years, $217 million) and Rui Hachimura (three years, $51 million) who is also expected to start next year alongside LeBron James for the Los Angeles Lakers.Discord Server: https://discord.gg/p8R3y5JFLink to national college basketball national podcast: https://linktr.ee/LockedOncbbhttps://linktr.ee/LockedOnZagsLocked on Zags - Part of the Locked on Podcast Network.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. West Virginia transfer Joe Toussaint and Rutgers transfer Paul Mulcahy both announced their new destinations on Independence Day. Toussaint chose Texas Tech over Kansas State and Pittsburgh while Mulcahy chose Washington over schools like Xavier and Notre Dame. The prevailing thought was that Toussaint would choose Kansas State and Jerome Tang, so the Red Raider selection came as a bit of a surprise. In other news, the Division I Council has proposed changing the transfer portal window from its current length of 60 days down to 30 days due to 60 being unnecessarily long. Host Isaac Schade hopes that the NCAA will both adopt the change AND adjust the starting day from the Monday after Selection Sunday to some point in the wake of the National Championship game. What would it mean for Dusty Stromer, or even Steele Venters? We take a look at all possible lineup combinations and whether Toussaint would fit or not.We then talk about all nine Zags in the NBA and how the recent NBA draft impacted their playing time next season. Will Jalen Suggs get traded by Orlando after they took Anthony Black? Is Andrew Nembhard's starting job safe after Indiana drafted two point guards? Will Kelly Olynyk get traded? Australian forward Alex Toohey decommitted from the Gonzaga Bulldogs and will instead stay in Australia and play professionally for the Sydney Kings in the NBL, leaving Mark Few's team with three open scholarships ahead of the 2023-24 college basketball season. We discuss Toohey's decision and why it makes sense for him, a few transfer the Zags could pursue who would play right away (like Paul Mulcahy from Rutgers and new target Joe Toussaint from West Virginia) as well as some speculative targets like Noah Williams and Jalen Carey. Then we discuss other options for those final roster spots, including finding another international incoming freshman, a transfer who is willing to sit out next season, or just putting walk-ons on scholarship and using the spots that way.Link to national college basketball national podcast: https://linktr.ee/LockedOncbbhttps://linktr.ee/LockedOnZagsLocked on Zags - Part of the Locked on Podcast Network.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Hawkeye men with Fran McCaffery beginning his 12th year has revamped his lineup with the departure of player of the year Luka Garza and the gifted Joe Weiskamp. Iowa hosts Slippery Rock in it's exhibition game Friday night at 7 in Iowa City. 6'8 forward Keegan Murray burst onto the scene as a freshman averaging 7 points and a handful of rebounds. While Murray won't sneak up on opponents this winter, we won't have to. Murray is listed among the league's best in a pre season poll of coaches and media. The voice of the Hawkeyes Gary Dolphin is joined by Keegan Murray, Joe Toussaint, Connor McCaffery and Head Coach Fran McCaffery.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
T'd Up with Connor and Patrick debuts today with the McCaffery brothers interviewing their Hawkeye men's basketball teammate and good friend Joe Toussaint. Toussaint is asked about growing up and finding his way in basketball as a New Yorker, what persuaded him to come to Iowa, how he adapted to Iowa, and how he felt his first two seasons went. This season, he said, “from the first player to the last, we'll have the gym rocking.” Toussaint also spoke candidly of what he first thought when he heard Jordan Bohannon was returning for a sixth season with the Hawkeyes, and then how he felt when Bohannon called him to tell him he was moving to off-guard and away from Toussaint's point guard position. The three wrap things up with a draft of what they considered the best arenas in which they have played collegiately, both for the buildings themselves and their atmospheres and fans. You may be surprised how strongly they feel about the merits of about Nebraska's Pinnacle Bank. You may not be surprised to learn their feelings about Iowa State's Hilton Coliseum. We'll have two episodes a month during basketball season, and we'll let you know in advance when the next one drops and who will be the McCaffery brothers' guest.
