In a recent report by Pac-12 insider John Canzano, the revelation surfaced regarding the individual responsible for what many consider to be the conference's downfall.Over the past year, up until roughly a month ago, the conference had been actively seeking a media rights deal to compensate for the losses incurred by USC and UCLA. However, when ESPN presented an offer of $30 million per school, there was a widespread sense within the conference that they could secure a substantially better deal. The conference, under the leadership of George Kliavkoff, made a counteroffer of $50 million, which ESPN promptly rejected, leading to the termination of negotiations. This figure was reportedly suggested by a university president, with Utah president Taylor Randall being identified by Canzano as the source. One Pac-12 president characterized this offer as initially intended for negotiation but ultimately transforming into a "take your ball and go home" scenario. As a result, the conference is now rapidly heading towards extinction, with only Oregon State and Washington State remaining as solitary programs. The others have defected to the Big Ten, Big 12, or ACC.Canzano dissected the primary errors that contributed to this situation, including the choice of an inexperienced consulting firm for negotiating college-level media rights, Kliavkoff's perceived lack of leadership, insufficient attention to the USC and UCLA departures, and, although not explicitly mentioned, the conference's uncooperative stance toward the Big 12.The future of the conference appears uncertain, as it either faces dissolution or the possibility of evolving into some sort of hybrid entity with the Mountain West, as elaborated in Canzano's report.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Was Pride, arrogance or ignorance that caused Colorado Buffalos to return to the BIG XII or Pride, arrogance or ignorance that has the conference on life support. The lack of a media deal is on the cover of the issue with the PAC XII. The leadership failed on so many levels. Prior Pac XII commissioner Larry Scott thought he was a wheeler dealer.  He thought the Money would just keep rolling in and he was wasting it. He moved the head quarters to Silicone Valley were the cost was high and the office was never finished. The conference was over paid by their media partner and they never reported. Now each school is on the hook for millions of dollars in pay backs. Larry Scott turned down a new media deal with ESPN and Fox, believing the Conference was worth more and would get a better deal.  The Presidents, Chancellors and regent members of each schools looked down their noses at other Schools such as Iowa St., Texas Tech, K-State and Kansas, when there discussions of the two conferences. Thinking their high academic standards would be harmed if they got dirty with the lower BIG XII.  Then Pac XII hired it's new commissioner George Kliavkoff , who in his first statement made the comment that now haunts him. We are open for business, telling the BIG XII, if you want to be on stable ground come to the pac. This was after the BIG XII lost Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC. Little did Kliavkoff know that 2 of his prized team were about to stable him in the back. USC/UCLA became members of the B1G and weakening their stability. This set off a war between the BIG XII and the PAC XII to try to lurer away member from the other. The Media Deal that was turned down by the Pac XII was taken by the BIG XII; which left the Pac XII with no media deal and no interested suiters. The BIG XII add Cent. FL, Cincinnati, Houston and BYU to strengthen their conference and has stolen a member of the PAC XII, COLORADO.  THe Pac XII is on life support, other school are looking to leaving soon and media deal as no major players want a pacific coast only media market conference. Pride can kill you , but ignorance and arrogance can also be deadly.    Title Sponsor:  minnesotapersonalinjury.com @BBLAW Sponsor: www.linkartz.com Sponsor: www.jaybeesgloverepair.com   #PacXII, #BIG, #SEC #BIGXII, #Coolegesports, #mediadeals, #Pride, #ignorance, #Colorado #GeorgeKliavkoff, #Larryscott

Andy and Jesse Simonton review George Kliavkoff's explanation at Pac-12 media day that the league wasn't announcing a media rights deal so that the focus would remain on football. That, of course, led to a logical question about whether the media rights deal was done. (Spoiler alert: It wasn't.) We then honor Kliavkoff's request to talk about football by examining USC coach Lincoln Riley's assertion that he and the Trojans have a responsibility to the west coast to be nationally relevant. He's not wrong, but that assertion should seriously tick off Oregon, Washington and the others staying in the Pac-12. (0:00-23:57) Next up is the main event, the 2023 Quarterback Draft. Andy and Jesse each get 10 picks from a group that is loaded on the west coast and full of question marks at some of the bigger programs in the east. Who will pick the better group? (23:58-1:01:42) Later, Joe Ovies (Ovies + Giglio) joins Andy to preview ACC Kickoff. Joe had a fascinating interview with North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham last week that laid out how difficult it would be to challenge the ACC's Grant of Rights. Joe explains where the seven schools that have complained about the league's revenue sharing really stand. He also talks about Clemson's chances of re-establishing its dominance, Florida State's rise and the potential of North Carolina with Drake Maye back at QB. Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods were in Las Vegas for the 2023 Pac-12 Media Day, the first such event in Vegas and the last event that USC and UCLA will be a part of. Commissioner George Kliavkoff hasn't spoken publicly this calendar year despite all of the negative press surrounding the Conference of Champions' lack of a media rights deal. Most felt the unofficial deadline for announcing the new TV rights was on Pac-12 Media Day, but Kliavkoff made it clear from the jump that there would be no such announcement yet. He wanted the focus to be on the football (which should be the best we've seen in a decade) but unfortunately there has been so much buildup and anticipation for this media rights deal that the focus couldn't be on anything but the survivability of the conference. Everyone knows that without at least a decent TV contract that brings much needed revenue to the Pac-12 athletic departments there is a legitimate chance that at least one or two members could bounce. If that happens it is debatable if the conference could even survive after losing USC and UCLA last year. Kliavkoff and the athletic directors are still confident there will be a good deal and everyone will stay put, but until it happens the speculation will continue to run wild and overshadow any football boom the Pac-12 teams could have on the field of play. To nobody's surprise, the Pac-12 media day came and went without any substance. Commissioner Kliavkoff mentioned a deal in the near future. And when prompted Kliavkoff said that a deal wasn't announced today because the conference wanted to focus on football.  And the point that Kliavkoff kept driving home was strengths of the conference's quarterbacks. The Pac-12 has not much waded into the waters of public relations over the last 6+ months as discussions have swirled in many directions about the conference's ongoing media rights negotiations. When he takes the stage in Las Vegas, there's no need for him to try and go above and beyond given the state of the negotiations. On today's episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin sets the stage for the league's 2023 media day. The Pac-12 media members voted on preseason rankings, and to little surprise Lincoln Riley and USC received the most 1st-place votes. What else stood out? The future is difficult to predict, which is why the Pac-12 needs to be prepared to act in an evolving landscape of realignment going forward. Spencer discusses how appealing certain schools in question might be and lays out the factors that make a potential expansion candidate. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio with not a whole lot to talk about when it comes to how the Pac-12 fared during March Madness. No. 2 seed Arizona was out hours after the tournament began and No. 2 seed UCLA couldn't make it out of the Sweet 16, falling to recent nemesis Gonzaga. But soon to be Conference of Champions member San Diego State took care of business against No. 1 Alabama and made the Final Four for the first time in program history, so we are going to count that as a win for the Pac-12. While there hasn't been any real news about conference realignment or a new media rights deal for the Pac-12, with SDSU making the Final Four it seems nearly impossible for George Kliavkoff and the Pac-12 presidents to not bring the Aztecs into the fold. Since 2010, San Diego State has the highest combined winning percentage of any Division I school in football and men's basketball at 73.8%, ahead of Ohio State (72.9%) and Oregon (71.1%). SDSU's academics are better, they have built a new stadium, the have beat Pac-12 teams on the gridiron consistently and bring a foothold back into the Southern California for recruiting, how could Kliavkoff say no? In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio trying to talk about anything but the potential demise of the Conference of Champions, which will be nearly impossible to do until a lucrative media rights deal is secured and the remaining 10 members are satisfied with the payouts. The guys start off the show talking about a move that everyone anticipated after the conference hired George Kliavkoff as commissioner, the Pac-12 football media day will be moving to Las Vegas! Ryan doesn't need much of an excuse to head to Vegas so he will be there, but will David be able to break away from his kids midweek for his final Pac-12 media day? We shall see. While they are trying not to talk about the conference breaking up, they will discuss what some prominent members of the college football media and sports business reporters are saying about what potential media partners are available for Kliavkoff to team up with and what sort of deal he could expect with the 10 programs he has now or with the addition of others like San Diego State and SMU. Unfortunately, the current marketplace isn't favorable for the Pac-12 and that is one of the reasons the projections for the new media rights deal aren't very promising. Unless Kliavkoff can pull something spectacular off, some sort of out of the box deal that delivers cash to his members and also gets their programs more visibility, the speculation surrounding schools leaving for other conferences will continue to grow. The best news for Kliavkoff is that the Big Ten still doesn't have a replacement commissioner for the outgoing Kevin Warren, but the Big 12 is like a wolf on the prowl and appears to be ready to pounce if any Pac-12 program isn't happy with the new deal. Dave also provides some potential breaking news as he has heard that Utah and Colorado have already decided to leave the Pac-12. How credible is this information? Dave said he heard it from the same guy who told him two days before it happened that USC and UCLA were leaving, so we shall see.  We're not sure if Wednesday's Los Angeles hail storm was some sort of omen for the Pac-12, but Dave's Tweet of the storm did give us an unexpected glimpse into his backyard and maybe the reason why he wasn't a fan of the show, 'The Last of Us.' In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about all of the buzz around commissioner George Kliavkoff and the remaining 10 Pac-12 programs that are desperately trying to work out a lucrative media rights deal. All eyes are on Kliavkoff who is trying to pull off some sort of miracle and get the Conference of Champions a television contract that will surpass the ACC and Big 12 and keep the Pac-12 members happy. The guys discuss all of the reports and rumors that are floating around including partnering with Amazon or Apple for the first Tier One college football media rights deal on a streaming service, expanding the conference footprint to include Texas with SMU and Southern California with San Diego State and even forming some sort of merger with the Big 12, creating the first CFB super conference. They also take a look at the state of mind of Oregon and Washington and if Ohio State cancelling the home and home with the Huskies will make anyone nervous in the Pacific Northwest. Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion

This week on the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde talk about where this Trojan football team needs to improve heading into spring football. Head coach Lincoln Riley kept his staff the same and tried to improve the roster through the NCAA Transfer Portal and high school recruiting. Coach Hyde shares what areas of the program he would prioritize when it comes to team improvement, starting with the defense that overly relied on turnovers and special teams that likely cost USC's loss in the Cotton Bowl. They also discuss the future of the Pac-12 with commissioner George Kliavkoff scrambling to try and put together a lucrative television deal for the remaining 10 members and potentially some new schools joining the Conference of Champions. The clock is ticking on USC and UCLA's time in the Pac-12, with both programs officially heading to the Big Ten starting in July of 2024. Trojans and the Bruins will be able to take advantage of the B1G's massive TV rights deal with Fox, CBS and NBC, one of the main reasons the Los Angeles schools decided to bolt. Kliavkoff was optimistic that the remaining schools would be able to negotiate an attractive media rights deal that would keep schools like Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State happy, but according to reports the Pac-12 is facing major challenges and the future viability of the conference is in doubt. The guys talk about some of the rumors that are floating around out there, from a potential merger with the Big 12 to adding San Diego State and SMU to the mix with Amazon taking over all of the Pac-12's tier one television rights. While it may not matter as much to USC and UCLA since they are leaving the Pac-12, the two schools are still part of the West Coast and the changing landscape could have an impact on both programs. If a Pac-12 TV deal with a grant of rights locking the programs in isn't signed soon, the potential for more instability increases and we could see the conference fracture. One more defection would likely be a death blow to the Conference of Champions, creating another huge wave of conference realignment. If that happens, some potential West Coast additions in the B1G could be on the table, bringing some positives and negatives for the LA schools. On one hand it would be nice to have a "pod" of West Coast teams to help with some of the travel challenges, but it could also help boost up a recruiting rival like Oregon who has had a lot of success poaching prospects from Southern California. The guys also talk about now USC's name, image and likeness landscape is changing, with one established organization restructuring their operation and two new NIL entities jumping on the scene. Ryan was at two USC NIL kickoff events last week and he talks about some of what he learned about these new organizations and how they plan to try and help the Trojan football team win more games. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio discussing the long and drawn out pending media rights deal for the Pac-12 conference. On Super Bowl Monday the Pac-12 Conference Board Members issued joint statement that addressed the long wait for an announcement on media rights, but it did little to give fans of the Conference of Champions confidence that a big payday for the remaining 10 schools is coming. According to the statement the media rights deal or deals would be done "in the near future," there have been "positive" conversations with "multiple potential media rights partners" and that the conference is "highly confident in our future growth and success as a conference and united in our commitment to one another." The guys breakdown what they took away from this joint statement including the fact that it came from the board members and not commissioner George Kliavkoff. They also talk about what some of those outside of the Pac-12 footprint are saying, including projections of doom and gloom for the PAC. Speaking of Kliavkoff, he was seen at a Southern Methodist basketball game and has reportedly been in conference expansion discussions with SMU and San Diego State. Some are speculating that the media rights delay is in part due to the need for increased game inventory and that Kliavkoff may need to add two more teams to have more games to sell to potential media partners. They also talk about Utah quarterback Cam Rising tearing his ACL but still aiming for a return before the start of the 2023 season and Utes offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig not taking the same position at Notre Dame, in part because of his rather large buyout.
