Sports media's push to streaming dominates the first part of this week's podcast, as Andrew Marchand and John Ourand take a deep dive into how Amazon fared during its first exclusive NFL game. Marchand and Ourand take a look at Amazon's performance from the NBA's perspective since that league's media rights deals are up after the 2024-25 season. They bring up both the good and the bad with Amazon's stream of the Chargers-Chiefs game. Other streaming topics include the potential for AppleTV+ to carry a historic MLB game as Aaron Judge chases Roger Maris' Yankees homerun record and discuss how a direct-to-consumer ESPN may look. College rights negotiations continue to be a big issue, as the Big 12 and Pac-12 have started looking into re-doing their deals. And they tell you why Dwyane Wade is leaving TNT's NBA telecasts this season. As always, the show has its Who's Up/Who's Down and Call of the Week features. Rumors about Oregon's future conference plans have been speculated about ever since the news of USC/UCLA's departure broke almost two months ago. Previously talks about going to the Big 10 were mostly speculative, but now Oregon officials have initiated conversations with the conference to see if they could be a potential fit--leaving Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff in a precarious situation. And, unlike just a few weeks ago, the Big 10 does not appear to be as ready to stop expanding as once thought. On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin discusses the latest piece of conference realignment news for the Ducks--who this time are generating the headlines themselves. Part of the reason Oregon would want to be in the Big 10 is stability and reassurance--in the Big 10, there are no worries about finances or competitive relevance on the recruiting trail. Such concerns COULD come to fruition if the Ducks remain in the PAC, even if they expand with teams like San Diego St, Boise St, etc. Today's show concludes with a mailbag question from a first-time question-asker who asks about Oregon's future--what could the next 5 years look like for the Ducks in the PAC if they are not granted their wish of going to the Big 10? Getting back to the College Football Playoff is one thing, but another level of progress and excellence will be needed if the Ducks are going to get back to the national championship game for the first time since the 2014-15 season. In this edition of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio continuing their previews of the six remaining Pac-12 programs with Arizona State, Utah, Oregon, Washington State, Stanford and California. The guys hear from experts from each program's 247Sports website talking about the strengths and weaknesses of each program heading into the 2022 college football season. The guys also talk about the newly released media rights deal for the Big Ten that includes Fox, CBS and NBC and what it could possibly mean for the Pac-12. ESPN being left out of the deal should be a good thing for the Conference of Champions, but with the other three major networks involved in the B1G, there are less available options for commissioner George Kliavkoff to explore. Plus the UC Board of Regents weighed in on UCLA leaving Cal behind and the guys talk about what was said at that meeting (not that either of them went) and if they feel there is a chance the Bruins get forced to stay (walking away from a half a billion dollar Big Ten deal is VERY unlikely). They also talk about the new AP Poll that has Utah at No. 7, Oregon and No. 11 and USC and No. 14., the Athletic's look at the past 10 years of the Pac-12 Network plus David thinks about who his POC cohost would be if UCLA stays in the Pac-12 and USC (and Ryan) leave for the Big Ten. In this edition of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio (after a week off) giving a quick recap of what they saw at Pac-12 Media Day with commissioner George Kliavkoff addressing the state of the conference and declaring war on the Big 12. They also start their college football 2022 season previews for half of the conference with reporters from Arizona, Colorado, Oregon State and Washington checking in along with previews from USC and UCLA from Ryan and Dave. The guys also talk about the latest news on the television market front with ESPN dropping out of the Big Ten's next media rights deal. Fox continues to be a major player for the B1G but now CBS and NBC will be involved showing conference games as well. This will have an impact on the Pac-12's media rights negotiations, but no one knows how much. On one hand ESPN now needs more inventory which could be good for the Conference of Champions, but with CBS and NBC no longer on the table there will likely be less competition for ESPN and less incentive to pay more for the Pac-12's media rights. They also talk about the slowdown in conference realignment talk and now both feel what we have with USC and UCLA in the Big Ten and the Pac-12 with 10 schools is likely to be the new norm going forward (until something crazy happens and then it isn't). Oregon Football's 10-win season in 2022 did not yield the postseason results that Duck fans were hoping for, but the good news is they should be conference contenders once again. At Pac-12 media days over the weekend, the media members picked Oregon second to Utah in the Pac-12 in 2022. Who else could contend for a conference crown along with the Ducks? On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Max Torres (@mtorressports) to talk about the weekend's Pac-12 media days and his biggest takeaways after covering the Ducks down in Los Angeles. George Kliavkoff took a decisive and aggressive tone when answering questions and talking about the prospect of further conference realignment. Though it's encouraging to see the commissioner willing to fight for the Pac-12 and take attacks on it personally, he is not in a position to stop Oregon from leaving IF an offer came from a superior league. Dan Lanning continues to check boxes in a good way as Oregon's head coach, showing himself to be poised while speaking with excited energy when talking about the progrum. Oregon's roster is one of the best in the Pac-12, and that coupled with the expectations of competing for conference championships mean a high bar should be set for his first year by Oregon fans. Stuart Whitehair, Brad Geiger and Neil Langland are back, and we are gearing up for the 2022 season. The Pac-12 Media Day is in the books, and Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff didn't mince words when it came to the Big 12 and possible additional poaching of Pac-12 schools. Kliavkoff said, “Let's be very clear. No Pac-12 school is joining the Big 12". Which, of course, is true until it isn't true. We'll break down the current options for the remaining Pac-12 schools, as well as what options Colorado has going forward. We then turn our attention back to the Buffs and the opening of Fall Camp. Karl Dorrell, as you might have expected, downplayed the media's projections of a last place finish for the Buffs, saying, “We know what's there and there's a lot of people who don't know”. We take a unit-by-unit look at what's expected from your Buffs out of Fall Camp, including the crucial decision of naming a starting quarterback. Will the Buffs be better than the experts project? Are there All-Pac-12 players in the CU locker room which the pundits missed? Will there be any news of note coming out of the Champions Center during Fall Camp, or will Buff fans be kept in the dark until TCU comes to Folsom Field on September 2nd? ... Let's find out ...

In this edition of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back previewing what should be an extremely interesting and informative Pac-12 Media Day where we will hear from commissioner George Kliavkoff for the first time since it was announced that USC and UCLA were leaving for the Big Ten in 2024. Last year Kliavkoff was on the job for less than a month when he addressed the media, fielding questions about NIL, conference expansion thanks to Texas and Oklahoma announced they would join the SEC and why Washington State head coach Nick Rolovich wouldn't be attending Media Day in person. We thought 2021 was a crazy first year for the commissioner, but with two of the biggest brands leaving the conference 2022 says, 'hold my beer.' The guys also talk about what they expect to hear about the LA schools bolting, the negotiations for the new Pac-12 television contract, what's next for conference expansion and what sort of reaction they expect from coaches and players that aren't leaving the conference (as of now). Coach Harvey Hyde gives his take on USC moving to the Big Ten and conference realignment

Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the groundbreaking news that USC and UCLA will be moving to the Big Ten in 2024. The Trojans will move on from the Pac-12 after 100 years of membership, starting with the Pacific Coast Conference way back in 1922 all the way through the Pac-8, the Pac-10 and now the Pac-12. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on losing all of those traditions like playing Cal and Stanford every year, road trips to the Pacific Northwest and of course playing in the Rose Bowl against a rival from the Big Ten. He also talks about the upside for the Trojans in making this move and if he feels there could have been anything done to prevent USC from leaving, on the conference side and within the Trojans athletic department. The Rose Bowl is near and dear to the heart of Coach Harvey Hyde and he is on several committees for the Tournament of Roses including the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame committee. While he knows that college football is changing rapidly and the Rose Bowl will never be the same as we have grown to know it, he feels that a lot of the traditions can stay the same as the bowl moves from a Big Ten/Pac-12 matchup to one of the games of the College Football Playoff. Even last year the Rose Bowl still had the highest television rating of any bowl game, even higher than the two CFP semifinal games. Coach feels it can still be a very prestigious post season game, with different participants than what we have usually seen in the "Granddaddy of them all." As far as the travel goes for the USC football team and Olympic sports, Hyde thinks that it would challenging but nothing that couldn't be overcome. He thinks the Big Ten will expand further and could give USC more local teams in its division that could limit some of the travel to the Midwest. The Olympic sports could also structure things for road trips that last longer with accommodations for school being made while being on the trip. In his words, the money was too much to pass up and sometimes you have to give a little bit to get a lot back. Coach Hyde also thinks Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff has been doing a lot to try and keep things together, but it was simply too deep of a hole dug by his predecessor Larry Scott. He talks about some of the possibilities for expansion including adding some familiar Mountain West programs. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino are back in studio to talk more about the huge news that both USC and UCLA will be leaving the Pac-12 conference and joining the Big Ten conference starting in 2024. This week they are joined by Fox Sports media personality and USC superfan Colin Cowherd to talk about this huge move and what it means for the Trojans going forward. It's been five days since the news broke and the entire college football world is still in shock, trying to make sense of this huge power shift and trying to figure out what will be the next domino to fall. Notre Dame appears to be the next Big Ten target and until the Irish make a move it is unlikely that the SEC of B1G will do any more raiding. But that won't stop the Pac-12, Big 12 and ACC from potentially making some moves, anything from raiding each other to merging together to forming a more formal (and written) alliance. There are already reports that Oregon and Washington want to join USC and UCLA in the Big Ten, but do the LA schools want that? The Big 12 is also reportedly having meetings with the Arizona and Mountain schools from the Pac-12 which would essentially be a death blow to the Conference of Champions. New Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff isn't going to sit idly by, but will there be any conference left for him to save? We shall see. If you have a question for Ryan and Chris you can drop them an email at podcast@uscfootball.com. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts!
