The team continue their story-by-story journey through the adventures of the Thirteenth Doctor. Today, Steevie, Kenny and John face The Tsuranga Conundrum, Demons of the Punjab and Kerblam! Will they enjoy it before the Pting tries to eat them all? Or will there be a special delivery to save them all?
This week, Simon and Eugene look at #DotAndBubble, the 5th episode of the 2024 Doctor Who series. They discuss having sympathy for a homicidal AI, the influence of #BlackMirror on Doctor Who, and they talk about judgment with hindsight as they have a “fierce” argument over whether this episode is better than Kerblam!
Our Doctor Who 60th anniversary retrospective continues with the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. We dive into first woman in the series to play The Doctor with the divisive episode, Kerblam! We also feature the Fugitive Doctor, Jo Martin, in Fugitive of the Judoon. A deep dive into Ryan Sinclair and disability representation. What is dyspraxia? How was Ryan's dyspraxia depicted in Doctor Who? How should representation be approached? How does Ryan's characterisation resonate with people with dyspraxia? How do infantalisation, cyclicality, relationships with time, and narrative stasis play into all this? All these sorts of questions are explored in a thorough journey through Ryan's time across Chris Chibnall's era of Doctor Who, examining every clip relevant to Ryan's dyspraxia, along with script excerpts, relevant articles, and more. This is a cumulative analysis of Ryan's time on the show from authentic perspectives from fans with dyspraxia, starting with a wide-ranging discussion on dyspraxia and representation, then moving into an examination of relevant episodes and scripts. Doctor Who has its share of metaphors, but perhaps none so naked as the eponymous company featured in Kerblam! (the only TV story so excited to feature an exclamation point in the title). With its motivational corporatespeak, closely monitored warehouse workers, and super-efficient delivery robots (that may or may not be homicidal), Kerblam is an obvious stand-in for Amazon — just projected out several thousand years. As you'd expect, Kerblam! certainly has some things to say about Bit Tech, automation, and the future of work, though how those themes land probably depends greatly on your existing opinions of those things. But do the smart characters and whodunnit plot rise above the debatable morality play? At the end of the day, does Kerblam!... deliver? Commentary for Kerblam! begins at 23:58. We watch "Kerblam!" (Series 11, Episode 7) where the Doctor and her companions find jobs to help pay for the Doctor's fez addiction. Whilst manual laboring at the Kerblam! distribution center, the Doctor investigates some spooky goings on, Ryan has order fulfillment PTSD, Yaz bonds with her mentor Dan (umm... not so fast there Yaz), and Graham plays matchmaker for coworkers Kira (ouch!) and Charlie (oops... new choice!). This episode has been brought to you by Big Corporation. Say it with me children: Greed. Is. Good.

Ben and Mark are joined by Steven from New to Who to discuss the BBC's perceived political bias through the prism of 'Kerblam!' and 'The Sunmakers'.Isn't the system actually the problem? Is it enough in 2018 to just make a Doctor Who story about Space Amazon or do you actually have to have something to say? Is it a by-product of a more centrist approach to entertainment? And how do three men manage to cover all the potential readings of this slightly muddled tale in around 45 minutes? The Sunmakers brings up discussions of high anxiety, Louise Jameson firing a big gun in the back of a car, flushing officials down the toilet and throwing them off the roof. And much more besides!CONTAINS BIG SWEARS FROM THE OUTSETSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/onthetimelash)

The Doctor, Sarah Jane, and Harry on their first adventure together end up deep in humanity’s future, long after the planet’s been scorched by solar flares. But before they can wake up and get down to the business of repopulating the planet, it becomes clear that something from somewhere is trying to throw a wrench into that process?! Is it the Kerblam man? Sadly, no, but bubble wrap does figure prominently into wrapping things up on The Ark in Space!

Funny fez callback. THAT'S KERBLAM! Guest spot from Lee Mack. THAT'S KERBLAM! Akinola soundtrack. THAT'S KERBLAM! A powerful, incisive critique of Amazon's business practices. NOT KERBLAM! Welcome to the first Doctor Who television story to have an exclamation mark in its title, Kerblam! A fun, though pretty toothless, look at an Amazon-style company writ large and one that makes a virtue of a large number of TARDIS companions by splitting them up and it's usually quite fun when the Doctor ends up getting a job for a while. In the hopes that this episode will not have the massive issues we've experienced recently with updates, let's just be bold and say we hope you enjoy KERBLAM!
