The search for a woman who is believed to have fallen into a sinkhole in Westmoreland County has become a recovery effort after two treacherous days of digging through mud and rock produced no signs of life. Faculty members and coaches at Commonwealth University's Lock Haven campus plan to hold a "no-confidence" vote early next year on the school's president. Gun reformers in Pennsylvania say they will pressure state lawmakers to pass stricter firearms laws. Groups like CeaseFire PA want the state to match a federal ban on machine gun conversion devices. Penn Medicine is launching a new program aimed at preventing gun-related injuries in Philadelphia. Organizers say firearm injuries and deaths are reported every year because of improper storage. A shelter in Lancaster will now be able to assist homeless people with extensive medical needs. A first of its kind mental health assessment and treatment facility is up and running in Dauphin County. Schools and businesses have been closed this week in Erie, after a snowstorm dumped nearly six feet in some areas, with more snow in the forecast. Some experts say it's an example of climate change in action. Did you know that Jodie Whittaker SAVED Doctor Who with her ratings? Because she didn't. Did you know that the BBC is denying any "woke" bias in its drama programming, including Doctor Who? Stop giggling. How about Doctor Who being a massive hit in streaming... the ENTIRE series, that is. Not just the Christmas special. Yeah, the Doctor Who damage control has begun. Additional Context: Jodie Whittaker's casting as the first female Doctor in the long-running BBC series "Doctor Who" was a historic and controversial move. Her arrival marked a significant change in the series, not only because of the gender switch for the iconic character but also due to the shift in the show's storytelling approach under the new showrunner, Chris Chibnall. The tenure of Whittaker as the Doctor has been a subject of debate among fans and critics. While some praised the series for its progressive casting and attempts to freshen up the narrative, others criticized it for various reasons, including perceived declines in writing quality and audience ratings. There were also discussions about the show taking a more "woke" approach under Chibnall and Whittaker, focusing more on contemporary social and political themes, which some viewers felt was a departure from its traditional storytelling style. The tenure of Chris Chibnall as the showrunner for "Doctor Who," particularly during the era of the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, saw a decline in viewership ratings. Initially, Whittaker's debut as the Doctor in "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" garnered high ratings, with about 11 million viewers, reflecting significant interest in the first female Doctor. However, as the series progressed, there was a notable drop in viewership. For instance, the Series 12 finale "The Timeless Children" achieved 4.7 million viewers, and "Legend of the Sea Devils" almost became the lowest-rated episode in the show's history with 3.5 million viewers. Several factors contributed to this decline. Chris Chibnall's writing and direction of the show received mixed responses from audiences and critics. Some episodes under his tenure were perceived as weak and confusing, lacking the coherence and character development expected by fans. As for streaming success, "Doctor Who" has been a popular series on various streaming platforms, with its extensive history and fanbase contributing to its continued relevance. The entire series, encompassing multiple Doctors and eras, has been a draw for audiences, not just specific episodes or specials. A deep dive into Ryan Sinclair and disability representation. What is dyspraxia? How was Ryan's dyspraxia depicted in Doctor Who? How should representation be approached? How does Ryan's characterisation resonate with people with dyspraxia? How do infantalisation, cyclicality, relationships with time, and narrative stasis play into all this? All these sorts of questions are explored in a thorough journey through Ryan's time across Chris Chibnall's era of Doctor Who, examining every clip relevant to Ryan's dyspraxia, along with script excerpts, relevant articles, and more. This is a cumulative analysis of Ryan's time on the show from authentic perspectives from fans with dyspraxia, starting with a wide-ranging discussion on dyspraxia and representation, then moving into an examination of relevant episodes and scripts. How a jump changed daring parachutist Tony Osornio's life forever. Tony was Mexico's best precision skydiver and the first woman to join her country's army. She says she "belonged to the skies", and became a member of an elite team of performance skydivers called the Crazy Birds. She was prepared to sacrifice everything for her love of parachuting - until a jump went badly wrong. If you need support relating to any of the issues we've covered in this interview, you can find more information on the BBC Action line website or at Befrienders.org Presenter: India Rakusen Producer: Louise Morris
Tony Osornio would go to dangerous extremes to keep skydiving. She was born into a conservative family, and decided to marry the first man who asked in order to escape the restrictions of home. Her husband was a Mexican military officer with access to the planes used by elite paratroopers. With his help, Tony would sneak on board too, parachute strapped to her back. In love with jumping, she decided she needed to join the Mexican army herself, something no woman had done before. What defined the Chibnall era? How did fandom process the era? How is the era being reassessed? How did those behind the era see it when they first began work on it, and how do they see it now that it's over? Audio commentaries, interviews, panel discussions — we discuss all of these through a bookending chat tracing it from the commentary for its very first episode, to Chibnall's debrief conversations over his first fan convention appearance following his era ending. We finish our series of exploring the commentaries of the Chibnall Era in a metacommentary looking at a new 2023 interview with Chibnall, the audio commentary for The Woman Who Fell to Earth, and coverage of the 2023 Gallifrey One fan convention. A Canterbury woman who fell pregnant at just 16 has told the podcast how she was determined not to be just another teenage mum on benefits. Louise Mansell has just qualified as a primary school teacher and has been sharing her success story with reporter Gerry Warren. Also in today's episode, it's been a nightmare start to the Easter holidays for hundreds of holidaymakers after travel chaos at the Port of Dover. Some people waiting in queues for up to 14 hours. There are calls for a new pedestrian crossing at a busy junction near Ashford, amid concerns someone could end up seriously injured. A dad's set up a petition for a button to control the traffic lights where the A28 meets Bybrook Road in Kennington. Elsewhere, it's claimed "dangerous and unacceptable" parking near a school near Sittingbourne is putting children at risk. Grove Park primary in Bobbing is close to a new housing development, and there are no yellow lines on one side of the road. You have probably heard of breakfast clubs for children - now one has opened on Sheppey for parents who're skipping meals to ensure their children are fed. New research shows more than half of adults here in the South East are having to go without as the cost-of-living crisis continues. And in sport, it was a disappointing trip to Barrow for Gillingham at the weekend. They conceded a last minute goal to lose 2-1 on the road. Hear from an unhappy manager, Neil Harris.
Our journey began precisely four years ago when we first discussed The Woman Who Fell to Earth and now it's all come full circle as we talk about Thirteens final adventure The Power of the Doctor. Today Liam takes Rob on a trip in the Tardis and we ponder the question… should this be the end of Cloister Bell Podcast?
Many fans of the series admire the various Doctor Who speeches. From the original Doctor bidding farewell to Susan in The Dalek Invasion of Earth to Jodie Whittaker's memorable statement of intent in The Woman Who Fell to Earth, speeches are a vital component of the main character. But it isn't only the Doctor Who throws memorable speeches out - his companions are prone to monologues, too. In this podcast, we recall some of the best Doctor Who speeches, some of our least favourite, and wonder just what we might hear the thirteenth Doctor say as she packs away her sonic screwdriver for the final time... This week, we're spending a relaxing afternoon on sunny Trenzalore, chatting with friends, visiting people we've lost, solving a mystery, bringing up an age-old question, and generally getting everything neatly squared away before the fireworks start this November. It's The Name of the Doctor. Notes and links Nathan's rant about giving the Doctor unnecessary backstory in The War Games Part 10 can be heard on the Jodie into Terror episode on The Timeless Children. Earlier this year, Nathan appeared on a podcast called Pull to Open, with Pete Pachal and Chris Taylor, and in every episode they theorise about where you might find Clara in this Doctor Who story. You can hear Nathan's theory about Clara's role in The Claws of Axos here. Here's El Sandifer's essay on The Name of the Doctor, and this is how she describes Richard E Grant as the Great Intelligence: “But Grant is putting no effort into the part, playing him as a cliched bit of leering smugness. Which is, of course, exactly what the part calls for – a big name actor basically phoning it in.” And finally: Nathan has a habit of making fun of Chris Chibnall's minimalist approach to publicising Doctor Who by repeatedly posting a screencap of Art Malik from the exciting trailer at the end of The Woman Who Fell to Earth. You can see him in action here. Follow us Nathan is on Twitter as @nathanbottomley, Brendan is @brandybongos, Todd is @toddbeilby and Simon is @simonmoore72. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast. We're also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. We'll be releasing our final episode on The Power of the Doctor this week. We can also be heard on the Blakes 7 podcast Maximum Power, which is back to kick off its Season B coverage today with the first part of a two-part inteview with Michael E Briant, who directed five episodes of Blakes 7 Season A, as well as Colony in Space, The Sea Devils, The Green Death, Death to the Daleks, Revenge of the Cybermen and The Robots of Death. And finally, there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. This week, we watched Darmok, which is one of the best episodes in Star Trek's absurdly long history.

It's time for a new Doctor! After wetting our beaks a little by talking about Jodie Whittaker in Attack the Block, it was high time for Your Generals to address her time as the Doctor. Ben and Mark return to cast their bloodshot, drunken eyes over the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall era as they pair ‘The Woman Who Fell to Earth' and ‘Time and the Rani' – two series openers that will eventually lead to the Doctor being revealed to be “more than just a Timelord'.Hoping to avoid being dragged into the never-ending culture war, Ben and Mark discuss the many positives of Jodie Whittaker's opening episode, from a more naturalistic, real world setting to a more stripped back form of storytelling. But is it a pilot for a series we never get?And for possibly the last time in the current format, Ben and Mark talk about the McCoy era, not that you get much of a sense of it here – great looking monsters that move terribly, the most 1980s Doctor Who weapon ever and Josef Mengele in tinsel and shoulder pads. Also: Who is the UK's answer to Mr. T? ‘Last of the Summer Wine' fan fiction, a new game from the Degsestial Funmaker and much more!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/onthetimelash)

Success in all forms demands mental fortitude—a capacity honed through consistently placing yourself beyond comfortable confines. When practiced with daily rigor, an increasingly sturdy mindset becomes a superpower—and the foundation for the purpose-driven life you aspire to inhabit.Welcome to another edition of ‘Roll On', wherein myself and master of pen, keyboard and dictaphone Adam Skolnick explore the concept of mental fortitude in contexts athletic and political through the lives of two individuals, James Lawrence (aka the ‘Iron Cowboy') and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.Beyond RRP hype-man duties, Adam Skolnick is an activist and journalist best known as David Goggins' Can't Hurt Me, co-author. He writes about adventure sports, environmental issues, and civil rights for The New York Times, Outside, ESPN, BBC, and Men's Health. He is the author of One Breath and is currently awash in his umpteenth draft of an untitled novel—slowly losing his mind in the process. This episode unfurls in a fashion unique. The balance of today's discussion focuses on James Lawrence—the undisputed king of mental fortitude wrought in physical form—and his mind-bending completion of 101 iron-distance triathlons in 100 days.In addition, we cover a few notable stories, including The Woman Who Fell 2 Miles To Earth, The Great Lakes Jumper and The Great Pacific Race. We also discuss the recent Supreme Court decision backing payments to NCAA student-athletes, wherein I go on a tear against the college-industrial complex. It is here that we depart from standard Roll On protocol and instead segue into my conversation with a man notable for a very different kind of mental fortitude, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. The most accomplished runner currently holding elected office (he's a 2:16 marathoner!), it's an exploration of the demands, discipline and disposition required to lead a fractured city through the treacherous terrain of social upheaval in the wake of George Floyd's murder. To read more click here. You can also watch our exchange on YouTube. And as always, the podcast streams wild and free on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.Final Thought: this episode marks the one-year anniversary of ‘Roll On' (and on-air bromance with Adam Skolnick). What started as an experimental but intentional response to the many historic moments that greeted us in 2020 has turned into an important RRP mainstay—and a success due in no small part to the incredible work that Adam has and continues to bring to the series. So thank you Adam. Join Joe & Mike as they realise they re special, they are important. A huge Jodie Whittaker celebration; her character, her performance, her companions and her era. This episode looks amazing, it achieves a lot and naturalism is back in Doctor Who. Refreshing positivity.
The tragic story of a woman who fell 90ft down a hole that opened up beneath her feet is told in today's podcast. Jean Thompson had been walking her young son to see his grandmother back in 1967. She disappeared when the huge void opened up and her body was never recovered. Hear from our reporter Chris Britcher who's been researching the story. Also in today's podcast - a man's been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was stabbed in Gravesend. We speak to the Trussell Trust as figures today show a big increase in the number of emergency food parcels being handed out in Kent. A man who was told to pay £1,000 by someone claiming to have his missing dog issues a warning to pet owners. And a YouTuber who moved to Kent after suddenly being made homeless has spoken of having to spend months apart from his beloved exotic animals.
In which we attempt to talk about the first episode of the 13th Doctor's run in only thirteen minutes...and fail spectacularly. Sheffield Steel, Tim Shaw's teeth and lens flares, we'll talk about it all, until time runs out. Hosted by Kyle Olson and Rob Kubasko Originally uploaded on 10/23/2018
Juliane Koepke had an unusual life by any measure - as a teenager, her parents had uprooted her life and had her move to the jungle so that they could study the diversity of animal life. On her final commute from high school to the Amazon by rickety plane on Christmas Eve 1971, she was struck by lightning and fell thousands of metres into the Amazon Rainforest. Join us as we discuss sweet cocktails, deadly snakes and Molly never wanting to step foot in a plane again.

Join Jack & Joe as they broach the potentially controversial subject of the Chibnall/Whittaker era of the show. An episode we both enjoy, it gives us the chance to delve into the positives and the negatives of the era even if we have a very different opinion of the era as a whole. Was it finally time for a female Doctor? Is three companions too many? Was it time to return to simpler, character focussed Doctor Who? And was the shift from Capaldi to Whittaker the biggest tonal shift the show has ever taken? All this and much more as we take on one of the most divisive eras in modern Who...

Our favorite TV show is back, as Doctor Who returns for its 11th modern season (37th overall!), with a new Doctor in Jodie Whittaker, a new showrunner in Chris Chibnall, plus new companions, a new composer, and an entirely new look. The entire show has effectively regenerated, and the first episode, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth,” in a promising if imperfect start. We give it the usual in-depth treatment we always employ for Doctor Who, along with an update on our progress in Dragon Quest XI, first impressions of Forza Horizon 4, and a bevy of recent video game and film news, from continued developments out of the Telltale Games fiasco to new trailers for Dark Phoenix and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
