The final event of ADWD was the assassination of Kevan Lannister by Varys. The Spider, in typical fashion, had the gall to apologize for the fatal crossbow bolt… and told him it wasn't personal, it was political. Little comfort to a dying man, but hugely interesting to us readers! What does he expect to happen? Busy day for Queen Cersei. She fends off mourners expressing regret and vying for her favor and works to keep the Tyrells off the Small Council. She bonds with Qyburn before finally having a highly contentious dinner with her uncle. Mackelly and Simon are in shock that Kevan went there.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei Lannister and King Tommen kneel before her father Tywin's body. The odor emanating from the late Hand of the King is not missed by those in attendance, so all are glad when the prayers end. Afterward, mourners approach Cersei to express condolences. Falyse Stokeworth offers that if her sister Lollys has a son, they'd like to name him Tywin. Cersei shoots the idea down. She congratulates Lancel on his betrothal and his new lordship. Later, she asks Rosby to be Master of Coin and to act as though it was offered yesterday.Back in the Red Keep, Qyburn says he's found a gold coin in the missing gaoler Rugen's chamber. It's from the Reach, which causes Cersei to question whether the Tyrells were involved in the plot to free Tyrion. Cersei plans to call for the headsman for Gregor Clegane. Qyburn asks to move Gregor to the dungeons, to continue to work with him.Her uncle Kevan arrives for dinner. Cersei asks him to be Tommen's Hand of the King. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Tyrion receives a command from Cersei that Pycelle is to be released. Tyrion agrees but while he's at it he turns the messenger (cousin Lancel) to team-Tyrion. Later he visits Shae and admits to himself that he loves his life and Shae. Simon and Mackelly get a little sappy over the romance. Chapter Review: Lancel Lannister visits Tyrion Lannister after midnight. Tyrion's not asleep but pretends to have been. Lancel is your typical high-born, good-looking, recently knighted 16-year-old. He treats Tyrion with disdain, referring to him as imp. Cersei wants Grand Maester Pycelle released and Commander of the Gold Cloaks Jacelyn Bywater arrested (presumably for not releasing Pycelle on her command). Tyrion is pleased about that. Tyrion turns the tables on Lancel when he accuses him of killing the king to bed the queen, and won't Joffrey be interested to learn this news. Lancel crumbles in an instant. Tyrion reels him - he could keep this from the new king if Lancel were to report all of Cersei's comings and goings to Tyrion. Lancel agrees. Tyrion fears for the lad. Cersei would certainly kill him if this betrayal were to reach her ears, and should he live long enough to see his cousin Jamie again, well, he'd kill him too. Tyrion visits Shae. He realizes that the pain of Tysha's betrayal is finally behind him. He's in love with Shae and with his life as Hand of the King. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Queen Cersei Lannister - Widow of King Robert Baratheon, twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister. Mother of King Joffrey Baratheon.King Joffrey Baratheon - Bastard son of Jaime Lannister and his twin sister Queen Cersei Lannister. Currently King Joffrey Baratheon First of His Name. Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Brother to queen Cersei and Jamie Lannister. Acting Hand of the King.Lancel Lannister - Son of Kevan Lannister. Cousin to Tyrion. Former squire to King Robert, who plied the king with wine on the boar-hunt. Now lover of Queen Cersei.Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish - Master of Coin, member of the Small Council, and childhood friend to Catelyn Tully.Grand Maester Pycelle - Elderly grand maester of the Seven Kingdoms. Fellow member of the king's Small Council. Jacelyn Bywater - New Commander of the City Watch (AKA Gold Cloaks).Bronn - A sellsword who fought and won Tyrion's trial by combat. Now Tyrion's friend and bodyguard.Tysha - Tyrion's former wife, who turned out to be a paid prostitute.

“We should start back” sono le primissime parole de “Le Cronache del Ghiaccio e del Fuoco” di George R.R. Martin e noi abbiamo pensato di fare esattamente così. Well chums, we did it. Somehow, someway, we have come to the grand finale of this reread project, and what a time it's been! How do we note such an occasion? With a 5 hour podcast last week, and a 4.5 hour one this time. We're going out with a bang!! Before we do the mushy stuff three chapters still remain. In them, Barristan Selmy takes control of a city while planning a war. He says goodbye to the sun's son, begins to make plots of his own, and all round gets the blood moving. In the Dothraki Sea Daenerys Targaryen confronts past decisions, both right and wrong, to choose a new path entirely while on the brink of death. And finally Kevan Lannister hears tales of coming invasions, smugly thinks of his success in Cersei, before death and secrets step out of the shadows with crossbow in hand. Our FINAL chapters are: - Barristan IV/ The Queen's Hand - Daenerys X - Kevan Lannister Hop aboard the Isle for...everything, to be honest. It's four and a half hours long, what don't we talk about? The chins will wag on Barristan's scheming for hostages, the diversity of his knights and council, what the Harpies are up to now, and we take a BIG wade into what the Battle of Fire could look like from all angles. After that is a focus on what Viserys represents to Dany (and what would have happened if he got the eggs), the meaning and imagery of Ghost Grass, and the self-sacrifice that comes with trying to be the good guy and realising you must cause pain in order to do so. Plus, how do you actually learn to dragonride, and just how much does George want us thinking of GoT here at the end? Finally, questions on Loras, Jaime's reactions, Genna coming east, the welcoming party for Dany and what a certain MASSIVE reveal means overall. Plus, you know, lots of saying thank you for the incredible journey. HUZZAH! The end begins in truth this week, and we welcome it with another 3-hour-plus corker for you all. Specifically, this week is Feast week as we wave goodbye to all four POVs amidst chapters full of horror, fanaticism, and cliffhangers a-plenty. Fires are lit up in the snowy north as Asha watches the burning of living humans before a huge surprise comes out of the storm. Victarion has his own atrocious burnings in the waters of Slaver's Bay as he and his burned arm continue to spread misery. Then things take a turn as we head to Braavos to discover the deep, dark, magical secrets of the House of Black and White, the ones with faces and assassinations. As if that were not enough we end with one of the most infamous, most terrible events in the series: Cersei Lannister's walk of shame. The big moments do not stop coming in this one Today's goodbyes include: - Asha III/ The Sacrifice - Victarion II/ Victarion I - Arya II/ The Ugly Little Girl - Cersei II So jump aboard the Isle for discussions on why George has structured these four goodbyes all at once and how he weaves themes of horror and religious extremism through each and every one of them to signal the end of days. Come and talk on the view of the men burned by Stannis Baratheon and the morality of their punishment, on the truth behind what is happening with Victarion and Moqorro and who's controlling who. Marvel at the magical system of face swapping, wonder about the overall aims of the Faceless Men rushing Arya's education and where it points her future, and have a long talk about the real intent behind Cersei's punishment, the true evilness of Kevan Lannister, and precisely how her breaking will change her as we look towards Winds. Nat is back in Brisbane but suffering from serious gym-related physical pain, so is back on Skype with Stu for "Can You Hear Me?". There's a general feeling that this was a mixed bag, with some cool spooky concepts (such as Kevan Lannister's immortal fingering) but a slightly odd take on mental health, conflicting fears and nightmares. There was also a HYPER WEIRD scene between Graham and The Doctor, feeding the theory that 13 is a sociopath. Enjoy!
