In this second episode, YS Chi explores the subject of Artificial Intelligence and Ethics, also sometimes called Responsible AI. Like any technology gaining prominence, there is both substance and fuzziness to be found in discussions around AI. There are also many grey areas that are sometimes presented as black and white. Vijay Raghavan, chief technology officer of LexisNexis Risk Solutions, explains how we look at Responsible AI and offers a helpful framework that differentiates real-world bias from data bias or algorithmic bias. Also in this episode, we hear from our first external podcast guest, Kirk Borne, chief science officer at DataPrime and one of the world's top artificial intelligence influencers. Kirk talks about how AI has evolved and the importance of transparency and human oversight. This podcast is brought to you by RELX.

AI and machine learning are seen by many as capabilities with enormous potential for unlocking digital personalisation and customer empathy at scale. Organisations that get this right are disrupting industries and leaving old-school competitors broke. Just think of what global businesses like Netflix, Amazon and Facebook have been able to achieve with data-driven personalisation. Yet, for many organisations, the promise of AI seems elusive or at least very hard to achieve. Many businesses are not realising the full potential of their stores of data, simply because they don't know how. To help us understand the potential of AI and ML for Customer Experience Management, I recently spoke to my friend and co-author of Demystifying AI for the Enterprise, Dr Kirk Borne. Kirk is a truly unique individual who combines his incredible intelligence with a real passion for his chosen vocation. Having graduated with a PhD in Astrophysics, he spent 20 years working at NASA, before moving into the academic and corporate worlds. He spent 12 years as Professor of Astrophysics and Computational Science, where he created the world's first data science undergraduate degree. He since moved into data science consulting where he has been an executive for the past 6 years. Kirk has a social media following of well over 300,000 which is a testament to the huge amount of value he creates through content creation and knowledge sharing. In this episode of Leaders of Analytics, we discuss: What data science, AI and machine learning can bring to digital and analogue customer experiences The most valuable applications of AI for customer experience management How AI can be used to amplify the abilities of front-line staff Leading applications of AI-driven customer experience The technical and organisational challenges that must be overcome to move up the analytics maturity curve The importance of ModelOps in operationalising data science

We all want to get more value from our data, right? So should we wrangle it, prep it, classify it, mine it, or model it? Then once we've got our data squared away, should we do prescriptive or predictive analytics? And does that require real-time or just-in-time data? If we had a nickel for every buzzword we hear, we could afford far better podcasting equipment. In this episode, Tim and Juan are joined by Kirk Borne, Chief Science Officer at Dataprime AI to demystify some of our most egregious buzzwords and look at what everyone's going to be talking about next. This episode will feature: What is industry 4.0? How can an edge be intelligent? What is the buzzword that makes you want to pull your hair out the most?

Qlik’s Joe DosSantos and Kirk Borne investigate the human impact of data literacy in the latest episode of Data Brilliant. Many people know and understand how data touches our lives every single day, from the TV shows that are recommended to us on streaming platforms based on our viewer history, to getting real time traffic updates via Google Maps as we have our way from A to B. Data undoubtedly plays an integral role in all of our lives. This is why, as Joe and Kirk discuss throughout the episode, the need to read, work with and understand data goes beyond data scientists and is crucial for all members of society, but unfortunately many still lack the data literacy skills that could help them in the digital revolution we find ourselves in today. Ultimately, enabling people across all parts of society are data literate not only benefits the health of individuals and organizations, but entire economies. In this show, the first of our PegaWorld 18 series, I'm joined by Kirk Borne, Principal Data Scientist at management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. In our conversation, Kirk shares his views on automation as it applies to enterprises and their customers. We discuss his experiences evangelizing data science within the context of a large organization, and the role of AI in helping organizations achieve automation. Along the way Kirk, shares a great analogy for intelligent automation, comparing it to an autonomous vehicle . We covered a ton of ground in this chat, which I think you’ll get a kick out of. The notes for this show can be found at twimlai.com/talk/151. For more info about our PegaWorld 2018 Series, visit twimlai.com/pegaworld2018.

In those roles, he focuses on applications of data science, data management, data mining, machine learning, and machine intelligence across a wide variety of disciplines. He also provides leadership and mentoring to multi-disciplinary teams of data scientists. Before coming to Booz Allen, Kirk was professor of astrophysics and computational science at George Mason University (GMU) for 12 years, where he did research and taught students in the GMU undergraduate data science and graduate computational informatics programs. Prior to that, Kirk spent nearly 20 years supporting NASA projects, specifically in the area of space science mission data systems, including a role as NASA's Archive Project Scientist for the Hubble Space Telescope.
Today we welcome #1 Data Influencer Kirk Borne, who talks about the seven "C's" of data science, applying learnings taken from air traffic safety to healthcare, the "internet of context", and much much more!
Kirk Borne is the Principal Data Scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton, PhD Astrophysicist, and world-renowned Big Data Influencer. In 2007 he launched the first-ever data science bachelors degree program as a Professor of Computational Science at George Mason University and in 2009 co-created the field of Astroinformatics to support his research. Since Kirk has been around long-before the field was even called Data Science, we start this conversation by taking a 50-foot helicopter view of the field: where we’ve been over the past decade, where we are now, and how aspiring Data Scientists can prepare for what’s coming next. Other topics covered include… what it means to be “data literate” how organizations can promote a “culture of experimentation” the data science skills, talents, & aptitudes that have stood the test of time Kirk’s thought process behind creating the first data science bachelors degree program at GMU changes he would make to the program if he re-created it today …. and perhaps most notably: how Kirk was asked to brief the President of the United States on Data Mining after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 Enjoy!
