Yesterday evening, yet another story of an alcohol binge that could have turned into a tragedy. As we read on QuiLivorno, a 17 year old girl from Leghorn was hospitalized after being found severely intoxicated in plain daylight. The accident happened in the late afternoon of Thursday in the Leccia public park, where the young woman had spent most of her day drinking with friends. At the end, she lost her senses, collapsing on a bench. The quick reaction from the ambulance crew avoided the worst. She is now awake and is recovering in the hospital. Still it is another warning sign of a situation that has been underestimated by many. Luckily some authorities are reacting. As we read on the Corriere Fiorentino, Thursday the Florence mayor sounded the alarm on this issue. According to Dario Nardella the attempted suicides, self-harm and psychological issues in young people have skyrocketed in the last few weeks. The director of the Meyer Hospital in Florence, Alberto Zanobini, agrees. Quote: “we're observing a trend that we fear is nothing but the tip of the iceberg of a hidden malaise. We see more and more cases of self-harm, eating disorders, sleep disorders, that sometimes lead to attempted suicides. It is a phenomenon that builds on an existing frailty, that was worsened by the pandemic. In the first phase of the emergency, people were sustained by the thought that all would turn for the best but when that didn't happen, things turned for the worst. The deterioration of our youths' psyche will cause problems for years. We have to find ways to fight it” end quote. To make things worse the closure of schools in red zones, as planned by the last governmental decree. As we read on Notizie di Prato, many parents are fed up and have decided to voice their concern, mail-bombing the email account of governor Giani. The members of the committee Priorità alla Scuola have sent hundreds of emails to the governor, announcing a strike next March 26th. Others have hung banners in front of many schools, requesting for them to remain open. Parents are afraid that 100% distance learning could cause further delays and ultimately ruin another school year. Opinions vary wildly but many are concerned that automatic promotions to the next grade could make students accumulate delays hardly recoverable in the future, permanently harming their education. A very complex issue, whose consequences could damage an entire generation of Tuscan youths.Let's move on now to a happy ending story we read on the Massa edition of Il Tirreno, one that could have had much more serious consequences. Maria Luisa Drago, head of the Franciscan Centre in Massa, around 9 AM Thursday was in her kitchen when she noticed that the gas tank in her stove had malfunctioned. Despite her frantic efforts, flames spread rapidly throughout the ground floor, fueled by the many books and by the wool of her mattresses, which she was reupholstering. The 79 year old woman called the fire brigade and then rushed upstairs to her bedroom. It wasn't a smart move. When she saw the flames engulf the door, she knew she could only survive by jumping out the window. The four meters jump left her miraculously unharmed. Her neighbours rushed to help her but she was just fine. The ambulance crew feared for the worst, and had a helicopter ready to transfer her to the Pisa hospital but she didn't need anything. Aside from a few minor burns to the face, she was unharmed: no broken bones, no concussions, nothing at all. Her house is devastated, the memories of a lifetime gone, but she's still alive. She thinks it was a miracle - we tend to agree. It could have gone much much worse.Let's close today's episode with an interesting story we read on the Corriere Fiorentino Thursday evening, that of a young Spaniard that is looking for the father he never met. Sergio is 30 and now lives in Switzerland but his mind is focused on Florence, where his father should live. Quote “I don't ask nothing from him, on the contrary, if he needed anything from me I'd be happy to help. My aim is only to meet him, let him know me, meet him in person even for just one time” end quote. Sergio's story started back in August 1989 when, like many Tuscan youths, his father was on vacation in Benicassim. The man, who was around 25 at the time, meets Rosa. The two like each other and spend together five passionate days and nights. Once the vacation is over, they keep in touch until, a couple months later, Rosa realizes she's pregnant. After a massive fight on the phone, she lets him know that she will have an abortion. When she's at the clinic, though, she changes her mind and carries on the pregnancy, without informing the father. Thirty years later, Sergio is determined to meet his father, to solve the mystery that he's carried with him for all his life. Quote: “I don't even know if he imagines that I'm alive. I've spent my whole life wondering who he is, if he needed help or not. My mother told me how he was, even if she decided to raise me by herself. I just want to know if he would be willing to meet me, let him know me for who I am and understand how he is. I'm doing everything I can to meet him but the more time passes the more it becomes difficult. I don't want to lose him without meeting him” end quote. Well, best of luck to Sergio in his quest. Ieri sera, ennesima storia di un pomeriggio alcoolico che poteva trasformarsi in tragedia. Come leggiamo su QuiLivorno, una ragazza livornese di 17 anni è stata trasportata in ospedale d'urgenza dopo esser stata trovata in coma etilico in pieno giorno. L'incidente è avvenuto nel tardo pomeriggio di giovedì ai giardinetti del parco della Leccia, dove la ragazza aveva passato buona parte della giornata bevendo assieme a degli amici. Alla fine, ha perso i sensi, accasciandosi su una panchina. Per fortuna il rapido intervento dei sanitari ha evitato la tragedia, la giovane si è ripresa ed è stata trasferita in reparto, ma comunque questo resta un segnale di un disagio forse sottovalutato da molti. Qualche autorità sembra finalmente rendersi conto della gravità del problema. Come leggiamo sul Corriere Fiorentino, giovedì è stato il sindaco di Firenze a lanciare l'allarme. Secondo Dario Nardella sarebbero aumentati a dismisura i casi di tentato suicidio, autolesionismo e, in generale, problemi di natura psicologica. Allarme condiviso dal direttore dell'Ospedale Meyer Alberto Zanobini. “Stiamo osservando un trend che temiamo sia la punta dell'iceberg di un malessere sommerso. Vediamo sempre più forme di autolesionismo, disturbi del comportamento alimentare, del sonno, fino ad arrivare ai tentati suicidi. È un fenomeno che si inserisce su uno strato di fragilità sociale già esistente, che la pandemia ha acuito. La prima fase dell'emergenza sanitaria è stata sorretta dalla convinzione che sarebbe andato tutto bene, poi si è visto che le cose non andavano proprio così e questo sta procurando i suoi effetti. Il disagio dei giovani sarà il problema del futuro, bisogna trovare le strade per affrontarlo”. Ad aggravare questa crisi potrebbe intervenire la chiusura delle scuole in caso di zona rossa, come previsto dall'ultimo DPCM. Secondo l'articolo riportato da Notizie di Prato, molti genitori non ci stanno ed hanno deciso di passare dalle parole ai fatti, bombardando la casella di posta elettronica del Governatore Giani. I membri del comitato Priorità alla Scuola hanno inviato centinaia e centinaia di e-mail, annunciando anche uno sciopero per il 26 marzo. Altri invece hanno appeso cartelloni ai cancelli di varie scuole, chiedendo che rimangano aperte. A far paura la didattica a distanza al 100%, che ha già causato grossi ritardi nei programmi e rischia di rovinare anche questo anno scolastico. Le opinioni sono molto diverse ma molti si dicono preoccupati da un possibile nuovo divieto di bocciature: a pagare, come al solito, sarebbero gli studenti, che accumulerebbero ritardi difficilmente colmabili prima di passare all'università. Una questione decisamente complicata, le cui ripercussioni rischiano di colpire un'intera generazione di giovani toscani.Passiamo ora ad una storia a lieto fine che abbiamo letto sul Tirreno di Massa che sarebbe potuta finire molto peggio. Maria Luisa Drago, presidentessa del Centro Francescano di Massa, poco dopo le 9 di giovedì mattina è in cucina quando si accorge che la bombola nella stufa ha avuto un malfunzionamento. Nonostante i suoi tentativi, le fiamme dilagano rapidamente, alimentate dai molti libri e dalla lana dei materassi, che stava rifacendo. La studiosa 79enne ha rischiato di pagare con la vita la sua passione per la conoscenza. Dopo aver chiamato i Vigili del Fuoco ha provato a rifugiarsi in camera, al primo piano, ma è una mossa sbagliata. Quando vede le fiamme avvolgere la porta, capisce che non ha alternative: deve saltare in cortile. Un volo di poco più di quattro metri che la lascia miracolosamente quasi illesa. I vicini corrono per aiutarla ma lei fa capire di stare bene. I vigili del fuoco riescono a spegnere l'incendio ma i sanitari temono il peggio. Dopo aver allertato l'elisoccorso, i medici si rendono conto che, a parte qualche ustione al viso, Maria Luisa sta benissimo: nessuna frattura, solo tanta paura. La casa è devastata, i ricordi di una vita scomparsi ma lei è ancora viva. Un miracolo, dice lei. Siamo abbastanza d'accordo. Sarebbe potuta finire davvero molto peggio.Chiudiamo la puntata di oggi con una storia curiosa che abbiamo letto sul Corriere Fiorentino giovedì sera, la vicenda di un giovane spagnolo a caccia del padre che non ha mai conosciuto. Sergio ha trent'anni ed ora vive in Svizzera ma la mente è concentrata su Firenze, dove cerca suo padre, che non ha mai conosciuto. “Non voglio chiedergli nulla, al contrario se lui avesse bisogno di me vorrei aiutarlo. Il mio obiettivo è solo conoscerlo, farmi conoscere, incontrarlo anche per una volta sola”. La vicenda di Sergio inizia nell'agosto 1989 quando, come molti giovani toscani, il padre di Sergio va in vacanza a Benicassim. L'uomo, che aveva circa 25 anni all'epoca, conosce Rosa: i due si piacciono e passano cinque giorni di “grande passione” assieme. Finita la vacanza, si tengono in contatto via telefono ma dopo due mesi Rosa si accorge di essere rimasta incinta. Dopo un litigio furibondo, la ragazza gli fa sapere di voler abortire ma cambia idea all'ultimo momento, senza dire nulla al padre, col quale non vuole più avere niente a che fare. Trent'anni dopo, Sergio si è deciso a ritrovare il padre, per risolvere questo mistero che lo ha perseguitato a lungo. “Non so nemmeno se immagina che io esista. Ho passato tutta la vita a chiedermi chi fosse, se avesse bisogno di aiuto. Mia madre mi ha dovuto raccontare di chi sono figlio, anche se lei aveva deciso di crescermi da sola. Vorrei sapere se è disposto ad incontrarsi con me, conoscerci, darmi un'opportunità di sapere chi è. Lo sto cercando con tutte le mie forze, ma più passa il tempo, più diventa rischioso. Non voglio perderlo senza averlo conosciuto”. Che dire? •• De la matière à l'objet •• Cette semaine je reçois Ingrid Sol Leccia, elle est sculpteur designer. Ingrid crée du mobilier, des miroirs de nombreuses autres créations dans son atelier à coté d’Annecy. Après avoir travaillé une dizaine d’années dans les ressources humaines, Ingrid décide de se consacrer entièrement à sa passion, la peinture. C’est lors du vernissage de l’une de ses expositions qu’elle rencontre en 2006 le sculpteur René Broissand qui va lui ouvrir une nouvelle voie dans son travail. Dans cet épisode, Ingrid nous raconte comment la sculpture lui a permis à Ingrid de se libérer de la toile, d’un espace défini. « Quand j’ai vu ce métal fondre, il y a eu vraiment quelque chose de magique. Je ne peux pas vraiment le décrire mais je me suis dit, ça y est, c’est ça. » (7:50) Après cette rencontre, Ingrid troque ses pinceaux contre un chalumeau et des lunettes de soudeur et depuis, elle s’épanouie avec le métal. Ingrid expérimente même parfois des matières improbables comme la mousse EPDM - un matériau utilisé dans les machines à haute pression. On parle de l’évolution de son travail, de son quotidien à l’atelier et elle nous explique pourquoi que ce qui l’intéresse aujourd’hui dans son travail de designer c’est de créer des objets pérennes.
