In this episode, we head to the Athens Limestone County Public Library to meet Jennifer Baxter- the library's ambitious director & host of ALCPL podcast Between the Stacks. Jennifer joined ALCPL in late 2020, with the goal to rejuvenate the library and to pitch in with new projects on the horizon. One of the very first was starting an innovative collection of podcasts made at the library called, "Library Voices." Each has its own niche... Between the Stacks- highlights conversations with guests who come to the library to discuss cultural, educational and community programs; Homegrown History- recounts stories and brings in guests to talk on the rich history of Limestone County, AL; Talkin' Dirty at the Library- hosts welcome guests who share plenty of tips on local gardening; & All in with Athens- a podcast project by students in the Athens Mayor's Youth Commission. More local podcasts are brewing with the library, and ALCPL is close to renting out its recording room to the community! Hyundai says goodbye to the combustion engine and fuel cell vehicles! We face off on the Netflix blockbuster Don't Look Up and what it means to the phenomenon of climate denial. A popular YouTuber proves electric aviation will take off fast. Brian makes a shocking announcement! James's Nissan Leaf in a -30s Celsius cold snap. He has to make sure he keeps using the vehicle or the battery over-charges. As an experiment he leaves the electric vehicle unplugged in his driveway for 24 hours to see how much the battery drains heating itself. James also finds a Hyundai Ioniq 5 in his hometown and goes to have a look to see how big it really is. His conservative friend is buying a luxury EV and we take a look at the BMW i4 m50. Big oil and big oil government get nasty with a small Canadian city who dares not worship fossil fuels. That city happens to be where your hosts live. Regina, Saskatchewan is featured in a new report that says industry groups like CAPP, businesses such as the Keystone Group of Companies and organizations like the Regina Chamber of Commerce, mobilized fossil fuel supporters with scripted emails against the motion. According to the report, several councillors who originally supported the measure were persuaded to drop their support because residents who agreed with the city's climate goals felt the motion had become too controversial. Brian's Movie Corner features Don't Look Up from Netflix. James says it's satire is effective while Brian thinks it could have been more funny.  In this week's Mail Bag California Public Utilities Commission's (CPUC) plan to slash support for home solar and a local farm/climate activist gets emotional over the resistance he faces in his fight to save the planet. Plus we talk about where we get our climate news from. A popular YouTuber demonstrates why small airlines will go electric soon. It's the money, stupid! 9-passenger short haul routes will be first. We end on the song 'It's Time' by Library Voices from the motion picture The Sabbatical. You can still catch The Sabbatical on Tubi for free with commercials or rent it wherever you get movies.
