“Questions, concerns, queries?” Lets chat!ITS ALL ABOUT THE LONGER GAME! In part 2 of Long Bloomers, The McFarlands dive into the perennials and annuals that round out the group.  Its a fast paced, lengthly list that will have you inspired to design. Matt gushes about his son getting his first pair of workbooks. "What do you consider a long bloomer when it comes to perennials?"ROZANNE PERENNIAL GERANIUM!!!   Lets do it again. IT BLOOMS FOR 16 - 18 weeks.  You read that right!Dicentra formosa 'luxuriant.' AWESOME, just AWESOME.  Matt details his concerns with this long bloomer.  It's not a game changer but there is some caution necessary. This would be one of Tinkerbelle's favourite plants. Lynne details Bleeding Heart varieties. Phlox - the colours are to die for.  Jack highlights the awesomeness of these perennials. You have to see the "Sunset Coral Phlox" to believe it. The City Garden Black Eyed Susie is amazing but really tough to get. What is a "spike garden?"Jack takes great delight in knocking Yarrow.  Why? He doesn't knock sedum and he's right not to!Corepsis is a really cool perennial.  You'll find out why. Matt stopped using Lavender but he thinks that's about to change.  You'll hear the story. The Adobe Orange Sombrero Coneflower works The McFarlands into a lather.  Clematis caps the show off.Tune in. Looking to book a consult for your property?  We'd love to help.  CLICK HERE.

“Questions, concerns, queries?” Lets chat! Its all about the LONG GAME! Jack, Lynne and Matt McFarland dive into the trees and shrubs that bloom for an INSANELY long time on this week's episode of The Growing Season. How long is long for a tree to bloom?   You'd be surprised to learn. Matt discusses how his students LOVE derailing him during lectures.  They love to rev him up and watch him go. "There are more flowers than there are blades of grass" on the McFarland's property.  Mugho Pines, Emerald Gaety Euonymus and everything 1980's comes into the fore. Rank these trees from 1 - 3: Royalty Crabapple, Crimson King Maple, Obelisk Beech.  Lynne takes the challenge. Define an "annual..." Matt tries. Are Ivory Silk Lilac's long bloomers?   The trio debate.   What defines a "long bloomer" in a tree? Weigela, weigela, weigela.... OHHHHH BABY!What is a Century Plant?  How about a Corpse Plant? Greybeard returns...Temperature can effect the amount of time a tree blooms.Matt tells a story about some lovely flowering dogwood trees and the shock and awe of a specific variety. "Is the juice worth the squeeze?"Lets hang out in the rose department for a little while.  Some are Oso Easy!Speaking of the 1980's - Potentilla is a classic that still pops. Why doesn't The Growing Season use Butterfly Bush? Hydrangeas cap the show off in style. Tune in. Looking to book a consult for your property?  We'd love to help.  CLICK HERE.

Gary Rivlin's AI Valley explores the ideological rift between "doomers," who fear existential AI threats, and "accelerationists," who demand rapid development. He highlights "bloomers" like Reid Hoffman, who believe AI will revolutionize healthcare and education by acting as a "co-pilot" for human intelligence. Hoffman views AI as a tool that grants humans "superpowers," such as instant translation or creative generation. Though Elon Musk warns of "laser robots" subjugating humanity, Rivlin dismisses such cinematic fears in favor of addressing tangible risks like privacy and copyright. Ultimately, the book notes that AI reflects its creators—a small subset of society—serving as a mirror of human literature and creativity. (3/8)1904 SAN JOSE

Was also kann getan werden? Text The Late Bloomer Actor a Question or Comment. In this episode, we explore the unique dynamics of starting young versus later in life as an actor. With insights from students at Flinders University, namely return guest Connor Clark (my son) and fellow class-mates Sienna Druce and Jakub Hapugoda, the conversation reveals that regardless of age, the core fears, joys, and learning curves are remarkably similar. Understanding these parallels can empower both early starters and late bloomers to embrace their distinct journeys with confidence. This episode underscores that the secret isn't when you start, but how you approach the craft—whether with curiosity, resilience, or joy. Remember, in acting as in life, there truly is no right age—only the courage to begin. Keep blooming, wherever you are on your journey. Key topics:The importance of experimentation and safe failure early in the acting careerHow experience, perspective, and life lessons shape acting maturityThe role of discipline, resilience, and fun in training and professional workThe benefits and challenges of starting young, including unlearning habitsHow older actors sometimes overthink, while younger actors retain playfulnessPractical advice for managing expectations, building a toolbox, and continuous learningThe mindset shifts necessary to thrive at any stage of acting Support the showPlease consider supporting the show by becoming a paid subscriber (you can cancel at any time) by clicking the 'Support' button in your player and you will have the opportunity to be a part of the live recordings prior to release. And please Rate the show on IMDB.This episode was recorded on RiversideFM - click the link to join and record.

Maria and Michelle were late financial bloomers who only really got started in their 50s. Now 71 and 69, they've paid off their mortgage and student loan, invested in the sharemarket, built up $1,000,000 in savings and investments, and receive NZ Super and a US pension. Through hard work, investing as much of their income as they possibly could, and carefully tracking and measuring their progress, they went from feeling anxious about retirement to completely calm about it. For Maria, money had always meant security, yet for a variety of reasons, she kept making poor financial decisions throughout much of her adult life. She knew what to do, save, invest, be sensible, but never quite managed to pull it all together. Moving from the US to New Zealand at age 50, however, felt like pressing a giant reset button. She'd always invested in her education, and she brought that knowledge with her. Soon after, she met her partner Michelle, who was equally qualified but also late to the financial party. Together, they realised they were well set up to succeed if they put in the effort. And so, they did. They're a textbook example of starting right where you are, no matter your age. And I have to say, this was one of the most enjoyable conversations I've had in a long time.

In an age of increasingly ubiquitous AI, how do we maintain control of our lives and successfully plot our own destinies? In this episode, Reid is in the hotseat alongside writer Greg Beato, discussing this and more in the context of their new book, Superagency. Greg is a seasoned journalist whose work has appeared in the New York Times, Wired, The Washington Post, Reason, Spin, and Slate, to name a few. He and Reid delve into what could possibly go right with our AI future; the cognitive industrial revolution; and the difference between AI Doomers, Gloomers, Zoomers, and Bloomers. Plus, Reid's AI avatar makes a cameo to join for a few rounds of the game “Overrated/Underrated.”  For more info on the podcast and transcripts of all the episodes, visit https://www.possible.fm/podcast/  For more on Superagency, check out superagency.ai.  Topics: 2:04 - Overrated/Underrated Round I 5:02 - Why Reid chose Greg as his co-author 6:01 - Why Greg wanted to write this book 8:19 - Why Reid chose this book topic at this particular time 11:21 - How the rise of AI is similar to the rise of social media 16:36 - Agency, superagency, and AI 19:59 - Overrated/Underrated Round II 23:28 - Defining AI Doomers, Gloomers, Zoomers, and Bloomers 28:46 - How AI amplifies agency 32:16 - How ChatGPT shifted people's relationship with AI 37:21 - Choosing AI vs. AI being baked into technologies  39:28 - Speed and scale in the current AI moment 44:37 - How innovation and safety can coexist 48:49 - Rapid-fire Questions Possible is an award-winning podcast that sketches out the brightest version of the future—and what it will take to get there. Most of all, it asks: what if, in the future, everything breaks humanity's way? Tune in for grounded and speculative takes on how technology—and, in particular, AI—is inspiring change and transforming the future. Hosted by Reid Hoffman and Aria Finger, each episode features an interview with an ambitious builder or deep thinker on a topic, from art to geopolitics and from healthcare to education. These conversations also showcase another kind of guest: AI. Whether it's Inflection's Pi, OpenAI's ChatGPT or other AI tools, each episode will use AI to enhance and advance our discussion about what humanity could possibly get right if we leverage technology—and our collective effort—effectively.
