On this episode, Will has two very different conversations. First, he sits down with George Washington Law Professor and FOX News Legal Analyst Jonathan Turley to discuss the significance of the FBI's raid of former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. They break down whether the FBI went too far, if the Justice Department may attempt to prosecute the former President, and what effect this may have on the 2024 presidential election. Then, Will switches gears to speak with the winner of 16 Sports Emmy Awards and seven Edward R. Murrow Awards, FOX Sports journalist Tom Rinaldi. They preview Will and Tom's upcoming coverage of MLB's Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa - the site of the revered 1989 baseball film starring Kevin Costner. The two discuss everything from Lebron, to LIV Golf, to the state of baseball. Plus, they discuss Tom's new podcast, Wesley, the story of the life and tragic death of former Major League Baseball player Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr. Tell Will what you thought about this podcast by emailing willcainpodcast@fox.com Follow Will on Twitter: @WillCain Learn more about your ad choices. In this Live Session with 17-time Emmy Award Winner Tom Rinaldi, we discuss his deep dive eight-part audio documentary surrounding the late baseball great Lyman “Wesley” Bostock Jr., entitled Wesley. Debuting on July 18, FOX Sports' new original podcast Wesley became the No. 1 baseball podcast in America (source: Apple Podcast Charts). Bostock, affectionately known to his friends and loved ones as simply Wesley, was gunned down during his ascension as one of baseball's most celebrated hitters and human beings by a man who would ultimately be found not guilty in one of the most perverse miscarriages of justice in modern times. He carries the unfortunate distinction of being the only active major league baseball player to be murdered during a season. This FOX Sports original is their first-ever episodic podcast, and Wesley reached No. 1 on the Apple Sports Podcast charts and is trending Top 20 among all categories. Rinaldi's statement on what he hopes people get from “Wesley”: “I hope people learn to appreciate Lyman Bostock, not only the greatness of his career and what was lost, but the enormous potential for generosity and social change that he very well could have been at the forefront of if it hadn't been for one single shotgun blast,” Rinaldi said to FOXSports.com. “I hope people want to explore his legacy in greater depth, and I hope that he's given his due as a great player on the field and a great person off it.” Episodes one through 6 are available now on Apple Podcasts, with the series finale dropping on Monday, Aug. 8. If I were to encapsulate my conversation with Tom, it would be to say that not only was it an opportunity to meet a journalistic hero but, for me, an unprecedented look into the heart of a human being who really cares that someone as special as Wesley is not forgotten. We discussed his courageous foray into telling this poignant story as a proxy for the family and with the full support of Wesley's widow and why he felt he needed to dive in a second time to ensure he got it right. For some reason, Tom felt he needed redemption because, in his eyes, the first time out, he didn't pursue answers or ask follow-up questions aggressively enough when he, by chance, came face to face with the man who killed Wesley. We shared a moment on that subject, and I was compelled to give a comparison from a time during my military service which addressed being confronted with a situation where rapid decisions are made, which may leave you with questions about your actions…or lack thereof. It was impactful for me. One of the greatest compliments for a journalist is when an interview turns into a conversation, and this happened to me with Tom and it's greatly appreciated. I enjoyed hearing his experiences in investigating and compiling “Wesley” for presentation and was inspired by his level of commitment to journalistic integrity…on top of that, the podcast is amazingly well done and one of the more important stories on an impactful individual taken from their family, friends, and community way too soon…Tune In!

To his family, he was simply “Wesley.” But to all in Major League Baseball, Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr. was a master with a bat. A career .311 hitter, greats of the game like George Brett and Rod Carew believed Bostock had the potential for 3,000 hits, and a possible Hall Of Fame career. Long before signing a massive contract with the Angels, Lyman was born the son of a Negro Leagues player. Father and son had little contact in the boy's childhood. Bostock would later say, “My father helped teach Willie [Mays] but never taught me.” A star high school player in Los Angeles, Bostock almost never played college baseball. He arrived on campus during the tumult of the late 1960s, a period similar to the early 2020s. For Bostock, the fight for equality and social justice, was more important than baseball. “The cause” almost cost him his career.
The compelling eight-part series tells the gripping and heartbreaking story of Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr.,the activist-turned-athlete who became one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball, and tragically, was murdered in-season during the height of his career. WESLEY premieres Monday, July 18, with the first four episodes immediately available across all major podcast platforms, including Apple and Spotify, as well as FOXSports.com and the FOX Sports app. The remaining four episodes release in pairs on the following Mondays.

Episode 222 of the Sports Media Podcast features two guests. First up is Fox Sports reporter and producer Tom Rinaldi, who served as an executive producer, writer, and host of an eight-part podcast series titled “Wesley.” The series examines the heartbreaking story of Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr., who was murdered in-season during the height of his MLB career. Rinaldi is followed by Zak Keefer, a senior writer who covers the Colts for The Athletic and is the host of a six-part series from on the rise and surprising retirement of Andrew Luck. In this podcast, Rinadi talks about “Wesley” and why he wanted to re-examine the story of Bostock Jr.; why this story has haunted him for years; the what ifs of Bostock's life; what happened on Sept. 23,1978 in Gary, Indiana; on Bostock being a .311 hitter in four major league seasons; the trial of his killer; the 30+ interviews he did for the podcast; how he will judge success; being on the sidelines with a mostly new NFL group (Kevin Burkhart, Greg Olsen and Erin Andrews); when he was informed that Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were leaving; discovering Tom Brady was hired by Fox Sports; the bigness of the NFL; the advantages of covering college football for an NFL job, and more. Keefer explores a fundamental question: How did one of the greatest quarterback prospects of all-time end up walking away from the game before he turned 30 years old; why Luck decided not to participate in the podcast; how to tell the story of a football career via audio; the takeaway on Luck's career; why teams still contact Luck to play and more.
