On Tuesday's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by his regular guests, Jim Duquette, MLB Network Radio, John Canzano from JohnCanzano.com and Puck plays an edited version of this weeks Sports Pit with Steve Sandmeyer and Matt “Stretch” Johnson. Puck opens up Tuesday with praise for Luis Castillo in the opener against the Chicago White Sox. Puck also talks about the 3-for-4 night from Ben Williamson. Jim Duquette, MLB Network Radio drops by to chat with Puck about the play of the Mariners and discusses being able to evaluate today's players with your eyes and not just rely on statistics. Jim praises the play of Andres Munoz and calls him one of the most underrated players in the game. How did Juan Soto's return to Yankee Stadium go? Jim had a front row seat as he works for the New York Mets broadcast team. Jim also notes what a great weekend it was for baseball with the “rivalry weekend” and a number of division races have great rivalries associated wit them and it has a chance to be great summer for baseball. Puck and Jim wrap up discusses Pete Rose and whether or not he'll get into the Hall of Fame and what is wrong with the L.A. Dodgers and their development of starting pitchers. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com, chats with Puck about whether or not he feels Pete Rose should get in. John is a voter for the Hall of Fame. Mediation is underway between the Pac-12 and the Mountain West. How long will it last and what does it mean for UNLV in terms of joining the conference? John discusses that the conference needs expansion to be resolved by July 1, 2025. The White House is exploring setting up a commission to address college football. Does John think that's a good idea? Puck and John discuss a follow up story that John did on a very impressive 17 year old umpire from Oregon. It's a must listen. John finishes with that he doesn't think Blazer fans should close the door on Phil Knight buying the team. Puck then plays an edited version of this weeks Sports Pit with Steve Sandmeyer and Matt “Stretch” Johnson. Puck, Sandy and Stretch talk about their favorite batting stance as kids and that led Sandy to tell a great all-time classic story about his time as a clubhouse attendant at the Kingdome and an encounter with George Brett. They also laughed as Sandy talked about Reggie Jackson and what a jerk he was to his buddy who was also a “clubby” at the same time as Sandy. Puck wraps up the show with, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Angel Reese is not in the same stratosphere as Caitlyn Clark. 5-15-25 ESPN's Jeff Passan joins the show to talk some baseball and we here from George Brett on the 1985 World Series reunion coming up this weekend.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Though it seems like only yesterday, this season marks the 40th anniversary of one of baseball's most misunderstood and overshadowed Fall Classics - the surprisingly competitive seven-game 1985 World Series. While most remember the all-Missouri "Show-Me Series" for umpire Don Denkinger's blown call at first base in Game 6, baseball historian Marshall Garvey joins us to discuss why that single moment, while a significant turning point, shouldn't define what was otherwise a colorfully spirited battle between two well-matched in-state rivals. In his new book, "Interstate '85: The Kansas City Royals, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Show-Me Showdown That Rewrote Baseball History," Garvey peels back four decades of myth and oversight to uncover the full, rich tapestry of the "I-70 Series" — a provincial, emotionally charged showdown between two teams forever linked by more than just geography. Through more than two dozen exclusive interviews with key figures like George Brett, Ozzie Smith, Bud Black, and even Don Denkinger himself, Garvey explores the human stories, cultural context, and remarkable on-field drama that have long deserved more attention. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/stores/good-seats-still-avalable?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old Fort Baseball Co. We've gone from waiting months on end to have a game to watch and analyze to having two in one week! Really three if you want to get technical, but 2 since the last time Cody and I got together to grace your ears with our enlightening and insightful analysis. Unfortunately, the trend of losing those games has continued, leaving the vocal portion of the fanbase in the comments sections at large to be having totally rational reactions regarding the state of the team.We spent a lot of time last week discussing silver linings from a 1-0 loss at home to Miami given the defensive performance, but now that we are getting a bit larger sample size of games certain performances are standing out, both on the positive and negative side of things. Given that all 3 games have been losses, we would be remiss to ignore those negatives, even if given context we can perhaps see opportunities for them to improve.A couple of weeks ago we did silly season overreactions, and this week we will be shifting into way too soon overreactions, discussing all of our takes from the first 270 minutes of Sporting KC's season, and what things we definitely feel super confident about stamping our names on as completely correct and not the least bit half-baked takes. Finally, we'll discuss how even refs want Messi's jersey, why George Brett thinks St Louis sucks, and a fairly unexpected exit for Alenis Vargas.

They also discuss how speculation about quarterback moves is dominating the football landscape, including potential landing spots for players like Kirk Cousins and Aaron Rodgers. Kansas City Royals legend Alex Gordon joins Eric Hosmer & Mike Moustakas in the 1st edition of Diggin' At Home!Gordo takes us back to his baseball roots in Nebraska, playing for the Cornhuskers, and becoming the 2nd overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft. He shares what it was like coming up as a young player in the Royals organization and overcoming hard times early in his career. Gordo also takes us behind scenes of the conversations he had with Dayton Moore early on about transitioning from 3rd base to the outfield, a move that would lead to him winning 8x Gold Gloves, and at the time made room for a young Moose to fill that spot. The guys discuss the current state of the Royals and why the future is so bright with a guy like Bobby Witt Jr. in the clubhouse. As an assistant coach, Gordo breaks down what he saw from this past season and why he's excited about what's to come in KC. Of course the guys had to take a trip down memory and talk about the glory days in Kansas City. A disappointing conclusion shouldn't cloud the truly remarkable 2024 season that the Kansas City Royals had. Unlikely on multiple levels, and perhaps difficult to duplicate, the Royals gave their fans something unexpected and enjoyable. Matt Quatroro, Bobby Witt Jr. ,George Brett and Kyle Isbel weigh in after last nights season ender. Dive in!
October 11, 1999 -- With the American League divisional Series between Boston and Cleveland tied at two games apiece, the Red Sox send Bret Saberhagen out to face Charles Nagy. In an eruption of runs, both starters find themselves out of the game by the third inning and the game tied at 8. With the season on the line, Sox manager Jimy Williams summons his ace, Pedro Martinez from the bullpen. The electrifying move sent shockwaves through Jacob's field since Martinez was removed from Game 1 after 4 innings due to a strained back, and all expected they had seen the last of Pedro's incredible 1999 season. Martinez was masterful, striking out eight and walking three despite having neither his fastball nor changeup at his disposal. Throwing hiscurveball almost exclusively, Martinez and the Red Sox won the rubber match of the ALDS 12-8 in what is cited as one of Martinez's greatest appearances. Also memorable in this game was the Indians strategy to intentionally walk shortstop Nomar Garciapara to face outfielder Troy O'Leary. Twice they walked Nomar and twice O'Leary returned the favor with a homerun driving in 7 runs for the day.October 11, 1985, George Brett steals the show in Game 3 of the 1985 American League Championship Series. Down 2-0 to Toronto in the series, Brett drove in or scored every Kansas City run, going 4 for 4 with a single, a double, and two home runs. When Brett wasn't busy torturing Toronto pitcher Doyle Alexander at the plate, he was mystifying in the field making a back-handed stop at third base to throw out a runner at home, and recording the final out to give the Royals a much-needed 6–5 win; their first in a series that they would win in seven games

Boomer talked about all the memories Mets fans will have from the playoff run against the Brewers and now against the Phillies. We talked about key moments from the Mets season that propelled them into what they've done the past few weeks. Boomer said it reminds him of the way his dad was acting around the ‘69 Mets. Gio said the Mets have a chance against anybody right now, including the Padres or the Dodgers. Boomer doesn't consider them an underdog anymore. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Lindor grand slam as heard on Phillies radio. Jerry has the Carlos Mendoza speech after the game to his players in the locker room. The Dodgers evened their series 2-2 against the Padres. The Yankees beat the Royals as Stanton had a double, a HR and even a stolen base. Suzyn Waldman talked about all the TV time George Brett is getting during the series. Stanton talked about stealing second even though he can't run. Aaron Rodgers was on with McAfee and said he had nothing to do with the firing of Saleh. Boomer thinks Woody did the right thing to change the season. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about hurricane Milton ripping the roof off of Tropicana Field. We took some calls from elated Mets fans.
Hour 1 The Mets beat the Phillies last night as Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam to propel them into the NLCS. Finally, our team is the one surprising other teams. When Lindor was rounding the bases, he looked like he expected to do it. And the fact it was against the Phillies made it even more spectacular. Gio said if Carlos Mendoza has one flaw, it's trusting Edwin Diaz too much. Gio said you can see the lack of confidence on Diaz's face when he's walking guys. Then as soon as he strikes someone out, the confident face shows up. Giancarlo Stanton homered and actually stole a base last night. People are not liking Bob Costas on the Yankees broadcasts. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and he starts with the Howie Rose call of the Lindor grand slam. After the game Lindor talked about his approach to his grand slam at bat. Diaz talked about getting the save. Nick Castellanos talked about how well the Mets played but said they were the better team overall but not this series. Jerry had John Sterling on the call as Giancarlo Stanton hit a HR. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee to say he had nothing to do with Rob Saleh's firing. In the final segment of the hour, a caller talked about the transformation of Francisco Lindor and the trade for Jose Iglesias. Boomer talked about the importance of the Mets pitching in the playoffs. Hour 2 Boomer talked about all the memories Mets fans will have from the playoff run against the Brewers and now against the Phillies. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about hurricane Milton ripping the roof off of Tropicana Field. We took some calls from elated Mets fans. Hour 3 This Mets team is one of the most likable NY teams we've had in a long time. We want that same feeling from the Yankees and hope we get that when we come in tomorrow morning. Gerrit Cole has to pitch his butt off and Aaron Judge has to get in the mix. We also talked more about the firing of Rob Saleh and how we never saw him interacting with players during the game and he put his foot in his mouth a bunch of times. A man who is blind called in to tell us he can listen to 5 different games at the same time and know what's going on in each one. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Francisco Lindor grand slam as heard on FS1. We heard the final out as heard on Mets radio and Howie Rose. Chipper Jones congratulated the Mets on Twitter and shouted out Lindor. Jerry has a clip of a Philadelphia podcast and the host is furious. The Yankees beat the Royals as we heard the lame Bob Costas call on the Stanton HR. Colin Cowherd said a Mets/Padres matchup would be ‘a juicy World Series'. Aaron Rodgers talked about how tough of a business the NFL is after the firing of Rob Saleh. In the final segment of the hour, 1010 WINS had food delivered for 10/10 Day. Hour 4 We talked about Boomer's love of 1010 WINS and all the crime they cover. Then we took a ton of calls from Mets fans. Francisco Lindor is the perfect player for this team right now. Keith Hernandez was respo ...

Does Salvador have a chance to pass George Brett as the best Royal ever with another WS win and MVP or is that a nonsense take?
We could be experiencing the October surprise this week and not even know it because it's so dark and nefarious. Of course I'm the guy that will bring it up. In KCMO they are blaming all the crime on everything except a city hall that's not a fan of the police department. The latest? Brookside residents want the National Guard called in. If you're of a certain age, your childhood as a sports fan was defined by Royals/Yankees playoff series' and it was mostly awful. Walk off home runs, storming the field, Billy Martin messing with George Brett and homer Howard Cosell calling all the big games. It was dreadful. This series could help erase whatever 1980's win over the Bombers did not. Chris Jones had a wonderful interview on NFL Network talking about the team's mission this year, we'll play part of it for you as the Chiefs prep for the Saints. Lee Sterling of www.paramountsports.com is here with his picks and our song of the week is one of the hottest tickets in music singing a song that sounds like it's about Joe and Hunter Biden.
