This week we take a look at Natural Solutions for our Menopause Symptoms with Nutritional Therapist Karen Newby. Helpful for anyone on or off Hormone Therapy. We discuss unexpected Covid symptoms and tips. We conclude the fabulous Maddy Anholt's How To Leave Your Psychopath and meet the Red Wine Angel and Jesus who drives a removal van. We start a new foodie #cookforukraine and Jinty's been cooking zucchini fritters and they're delicious. We conclude the Death Wishes WI, find out how we've both got on.   Karen Newby is a nutritional therapist with over 10 years clinical experience. She holds a BSc in Nutritional Medicine and is registered with BANT and CNHC. She runs a specialist  menopause clinic and hosts regular retreats, corporate talks and workshops on the subject. She has helped countless women on their road to midlife vitality and is very much a complementary practitioner, often working with women on HRT. Her approach is highly practical, realistic and achievable as we deal with very low bandwidth in amongst our turbo charged, modern day world.  Karen says ‘it's more about natural solutions to symptoms - I like to think of these being helpful for women on or off HRT as opposed to alternatives.' Did you know that by dropping caffeine and eating a larger meal for breakfast you can aide your gut health and sugar levels that will help you sleep better? Karen gives us some tips (and the reasons they work) that will transform your life but not take a lot of effort to achieve. You can watch the unedited conversation on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA   In the Book Collective we are very sad to read the last pages of Maddy Anholt's How To Leave Your psychopath in the final chapters and epilogue we meet The Red Wine Angel who comforts Maddy with red wine and a fag and Jesus who drives a removal van who for the first time in years shows Maddy compassion in his words to her. Her twin quite literally saves her life before Maddy learns to re-build her life from the psychopathic Damien.   Our New Foodie Collective this moth is #cookforukraine and Jinty has baked a delicious zucchini fritter. Natasha describes her teenage years and the mental health impact on her life, from a vicious attack to not being like the other girls. We talk symptoms, diagnosis, Lichen Planus, infertility and adoption, Vulva and other surgeries and how Natasha is now on a mission to support and help others. The book offers a candid insight into the complex world of coercive control and abusive relationships from a woman who has spent her entire dating life trapped in them. We talk to Maddy about how she became a Womens aid Ambassador, how lockdown changed her plans from tour to book (and soon another tour). In her book she cleverly weaves her own experiences with science & psychology whilst at the same time making us laugh, she explains how important the format of the book was and how it began. In this week's podcast we meet the extraordinary Dr Zoe Hodson who talks all things testosterone during the menopause and why it's not just for boys. Did you know that pre menopause women produce 3-4 times as much testosterone than oestrogen, so why is this hormone not on our GP's radar? Find out as Dr Zoe answers all ours & the Collectives questions. We hear some fashion news that takes us back to the 80's and there's a bit of beauty news on the new Maybelline tattoo brow, but can we read how to use it? In the Foodie it's a new month and the theme is healthy food on a budget with a very tasty meal from Jinty. In the Book Collective we start to read Maddy Anholt's How To Leave Your Psychopath, and it's already a great read. There's a Movie Collective this month, Lou went to the cinema and reports back on Kenneth Branagh's Death on The Nile. And there's a WI to get you naked and love your body!   Dr Zoe Hodson has been a GP for 20 years and has been working full time in menopause care for the last 2 years. For the last 12 months Zoe has been campaigning with menopause support for women who are refused testosterone. We learn how a deficiency in testosterone may effect the body in menopause, and it's not only about libido!   In fashion news the slouchy tailored suit is back! Who knew that this fashion trend from the 80's would make a return to the catwalk? In beauty news Lou struggles to open and then read Maybelline's new Tattoo Brow, is she going to recommend it?   Maddy Anholt is an ambassador for Women's Aid and her new book, How To Leave Your Psychopath will have you squirming at the psycho's that are out in the dating world, we begin by meeting Damien…. And he's definitely on the psychometer. Maddy tells us, What you put up with at the end of the relationship is not what you would have put up with in the beginning. Maddy is hitting the nails on the head with this book.   As inflation is on the rise, fuel prices are going through the roof, this month we have decided to look at healthy food on a budget. Jinty kicks off this month's foodie with a lentil and beef cassoulet. It's brimming with goodness and comes in at under £2.50 a portion.   In the Movie Collective, Lou takes a trip to a very atmospheric cinema to watch Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile. Branagh plays Poirot and we get a prequel to the film and a look at a young Poirot's love life. As good as it was to see it on the big screen, would we recommend you wait until it comes onto the small screen?   The WI this week is from Lou and it's about getting to know and love your body in all its naked glory. In this week's podcast there's an awful lot of exposing! We're talking gender bias; we throw light on how the lack of data in healthcare is killing women and it's all to do with Aristotle (well in a round about way!). Also, in the workplace - why are women marginalised and made to work below their skillset? We dissect the incredible Invisible Women book by Caroline Criado Perez who gender myth busts the everyday items and lifestyles that we take for granted as females that are purely designed for males. We conclude Bernardine Evaristo's Girl, Woman, other and what a fantastic read. There's fashion news you might not want to hear about from Jinty and Lou finds there's a lot of fuckery around. We finish our Chinese Foodie month with a delicious Mango dessert.   We don't have to dig too deeply for the gender bias that is everywhere in our society. So why is there always a queue for the ladies' toilets when the men's are always empty? It's all down to Urban plumbing & planning and the expectation that men require the same space as women, but menstruation, clothing issues and women who take children to toilet are not considered. Women are walking in the dark to find privacy in countries that do not have facilities for female toilets, our basic human function to urinate is being denied and putting women and girls in vulnerable situations. Did you know Iceland is the best place for a woman to live? In 1975 Icelandic women went on strike with 90% stopping all the unpaid work women do around the home. The worse time for women is during conflict and natural disasters when violence against women escalates, there's also the problem that in some countries that suffer natural disasters, girls are set up to fail due to social prejudices against girls learning to swim and climb trees. And there's a whole lot more we find out that that exposes why the World is designed for men.   In The Book Collective we conclude the brilliant Bernardine Evaristo's Girl, Woman, Other. And what a WOW of a book. This beautiful book comes to a superb conclusion with the characters coming together in the final pages. The ending is a sweet finale which will probably bring a tear to your eyes! Our new book for March is, How to Leave Your Psychopath, by Maddy Anholt, we can't wait to start reading this essential handbook for escaping  toxic relationships.   In The Foodie Lou makes the final recipe for our Chinese month, a vegan mango pudding. It's a light and palette cleansing dish with vegan gelatine. Chinese Mango Pudding – Vegan https://www.aspicyperspective.com/mango-pudding-dairy-free/   In the Wine Collective we try a fruity red, Trivento Private Reserve Malbec from Argentina, it's an easy drinkable red with plum and raspberry aromas and is £10 in Tesco's and currently £8 in Sainsburys. Jinty chooses a nonalcoholic rum from M&S -Golden Spice and Cola.   In the WI it's our final week of learning our dance routine for Cameo's Candy Girl. Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering. This week my guest is an actor and broadcaster who cracks me up as much with her bananas ideas as her jokes - it’s dear Maddy Anholt. She tries to sell me a load of crackpot bollocks about ‘skin plumping’ and we’re honest about the horror of acting castings. Oh, and she makes me the most beautiful fig and beet salad, before we smash a couple of vegan cookies all up too.RecipesMaddy made it up! But she talks us through the recipe in the opening minutes of the podcast. Roasted beetroot, walnuts and figs with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and maple syrup - 20 odd mins. Then over green leaves and crumbed feta or goats cheese on top. http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English comedian/comedy character actor, Maddy Anholt. We dive straight into Maddy's type of comedy, character comedy, what she loves about it and, if things go badly, how she can blame the characters if and when things go wrong. We go back to beginnings then and speak about growing up on Devon before moving to London to pursue a career in acting and comedy. We speak about her new show which she'll be performing at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Herselves. A show about the different personalities we use in our daily lives. We talk about the idea behind the show and Maddy admits to liking to play different characters in her daily life with different people as well. We chat about the lack of comedians who play different characters on stage and how the people who do it find it so liberating to take on a persona and delve into comedy that wouldn't normally suit their on-stage persona. Maddy recently set up her own TV production company, MadMaddyTV, so we get taking about the ins and outs of that, how and why she established it, and some of the common pitfalls associated with setting up one. We dig a bit more into this then and talk a bit more about the TV industry and how to get things made and what to avoid doing. We speak about Maddy studying acting and how it lead her into comedy. We speak more then about the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the kinds of things she has learned after having four successful solo shows there. And the depth to which one must go to promote shows there.
