Eurovision's director, Martin Green, has opened the doors for Canada to enter the Olympics of pop music. Historically, contestants of the music contest must be full members of the European Broadcast Union - Canada currently sits as an associate member. But so does Australia, yet they've been in on the action for more than 10 years. À l'occasion de son 70ᵉ anniversaire, l'Eurovision fait son retour à Vienne pour la troisième fois de son histoire, dans une ambiance festive mais sous haute sécurité, avec la finale ce samedi 16 mai 2026. Cette édition est une nouvelle fois marquée par la polémique autour de la participation d'Israël. Cette année, comme lors des deux précédentes éditions, c'est la présence d'Israël qui suscite la polémique. L'Espagne, l'Islande, l'Irlande, les Pays-Bas et la Slovénie seront absents cette année, en signe de protestation. Plus de 1 000 artistes ont également appelé au boycott du célèbre concours européen de la chanson. L'Eurovision, considérée comme un concours désuet il y a quelques années, est, selon Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, le directeur des programmes de France Télévisions, « l'événement le plus populaire de France ». Le télécrochet dépasse les frontières de l'Union européenne puisque 35 pays participeront cette année, et il est diffusé aussi bien au Canada qu'aux États-Unis ou en Australie. En tout, ce concours mondial de la chanson atteint 170 millions de téléspectateurs à la télévision ou en ligne, sur sa chaîne YouTube. Son idée centrale : rassembler les pays et les artistes autour d'une finale réunissant 25 pays avec les votes du public et d'un jury de professionnels. C'est aussi, selon Martin Green, son directeur, l'occasion de délivrer un message. « Nous donnons une voix, dit-il, à propos de la communauté LGBTQ+, à ceux qui n'en ont pas et nous accueillons les exclus. » Polémique et boycott Cinq pays européens, et pas des moindres, boycottent l'événement en raison de la présence d'Israël. En premier lieu, il y a l'Espagne, un des grands contributeurs financiers au concours, « convaincue d'être du bon côté de l'histoire », a affirmé son gouvernement. Les Pays-Bas, l'Irlande, la Slovénie et l'Islande sont les quatre autres absents de l'édition 2026. Certains – comme l'Espagne – ne diffuseront même pas le concours sur leurs antennes malgré un vote favorable de l'Union européenne de radiodiffusion (UEA), présidée par Delphine Ernotte, la PDG de France Télévisions. La position espagnole est de dire qu'on ne peut pas accepter Israël si on a exclu la Russie en 2022. Madrid dénonce les massacres à Gaza, les crimes de guerre et contre l'humanité qui y sont associés, mais aussi la violation du droit international par Israël au Liban ou en Iran, par exemple. Ainsi, 1 100 artistes, dont Massive Attack, Peter Gabriel ou Roger Waters, ont signé un appel qui dénonce dans l'Eurovision une opération de blanchiment israélienne. Pour son directeur des programmes, la différence avec la Russie, c'est qu'Israël n'a pas attaqué des antennes d'un État membre de l'UER comme l'Ukraine. Et puis, c'est son groupe public KAN qui est partie prenante, et ce n'est pas la voix la plus pro-Netanyahu de l'audiovisuel israélien. Il reste qu'Israël soutient activement la participation de son candidat, un des favoris du concours. L'UER a dû, cette année encore, rappeler à l'ordre KAN pour des vidéos appelant à voter dix fois pour ce même candidat. Kent Andersson berättar i sin bok ”Järnålderns djur” om hur vildsvinen var viktiga symboler för de krigiska svearna och om varför man ofta hittar björnklor i gravar efter män med hög status.Och så möter vi vår näst minsta uggla, pärlugglan. Fram till nyligen var den Sveriges vanligaste uggla, men på senare år har den minskat kraftigt. Reporter Lisa Henkow följde med ut i augustinatten när ringmärkarna på fågelstationen på ön Stora Fjäderägg fått en pärluggla i näten. En fluffig bekantskap, med mjuka fjädrar på såväl ben som ögonlock. Vi ringer också upp fågelforskaren Martin Green för att höra varför pärlugglan nu riskerar att hamna på rödlistan.Året har verkligen inletts i snöns tecken runt om i landet. Och den största snösmockan har nog landat i Gävleborgs län. Vi får ett snöigt vykort från reporter Joacim Lindwall som ger sig ut på skidor tillsammans med biologen Petter Hillborg.Den börjar som en rund boll och slår sedan ut som en blomma. Det handlar om svampen jordstjärna, som fotografen Robin Malmsten Havervall följt och filmat under flera månaders tid.
