Police in England have broken up a rave that saw more than 300 people packed under a railway arch in the early hours of Sunday morning.Officers arrived at the party in Hackney, east London, at 1:30 a.m. local time, and said they have issued more than £15,000  to revellers for breaching the UK's lockdown policy.The Metropolitan Police said "numerous attempts were made to engage with organisers and others but they were uncooperative." The doors to the building were padlocked from the inside to stop police getting in, they added.It comes after police also broke up a wedding attended by 150 people — despite a nationwide lockdown that bars households from mixing.The venue was a north London school whose principal died from the coronavirus last year.The Metropolitan Police said officers found a large number people packed into the school with blacked-out windows on Thursday night (Friday NZT).Police said that "following inquiries it was established that the group had gathered at the location for a wedding".Initially police said 400 people were at the wedding, but later revised the number to 150.Weddings are currently allowed only in "exceptional circumstances" in the UK - such as one partner being dangerously ill - and with a maximum of six people attending.Police said the organiser could face a £10,000 (NZ$19,051) fine. Many guests fled as police arrived, but five people who attended received £200 fines.The Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls' School, a state-funded Orthodox Jewish high school, said in a statement that it was "absolutely horrified about last night's event and condemn[s] it in the strongest possible terms".The school said its hall had been leased to an outside organisation and "we had no knowledge that the wedding was taking place".UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis condemned the rule-breaking event.He tweeted: "At a time when we are all making such great sacrifices, it amounts to a brazen abrogation of the responsibility to protect life and such illegal behaviour is abhorred by the overwhelming majority of the Jewish community."The school's principal, Rabbi Avrohom Pinter, died in April after contracting the coronavirus.Pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues in Britain are closed, and people are required to stay largely at home, as part of restrictions to curb a new surge in the virus.The UK has recorded more than 95,000 Covid-19 deaths, the highest toll in Europe.with text by AP

Welcome to the eighth episode of the new Dior Talks podcast series ‘Feminist Art’. This series will highlight some of the key practitioners in the pioneering and evolving field of feminist art, a source of endless inspiration for Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Women’s collections.  In this episode, series host Katy Hessel, a London-based curator, writer and art-historian, speaks with Marinella Senatore, the Rome-based multimedia artist, about her challenging and politically uncompromising approach to making her work. For the unveiling of the Cruise 2021 collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri commissioned Senatore to collaborate with local artisans on a series of mammoth light sculptures – luminarie – for the audience-free show, streamed live from Lecce in Puglia, Italy. These works incorporate varied phrases which inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri during the creation of the collection, the spirit of which is summed up by the statement, “We rise by lifting others”. Marinella Senatore was born in Italy in 1977 and studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, the Conservatorio and the Scuola Nazionale di Cinema in Rome. This expansive education has influenced her impressively wide-ranging artistic practice ever since, as she works with video, action, photography, installation, sculpture and painting. Fascinated by ideas of participation, dialogue, history and social structures, she is highly prolific and has exhibited widely. She has shown at the Centre Pompidou, MAXXI, the Queens Museum, Kunsthaus Zürich and Castello di Rivoli amongst many others, and has participated in numerous group shows, screenings and residences. Her all-encompassing approach to making art was a perfect contribution to Maria Grazia Chiuri’s concept for the staging of the 2021 Cruise show, and the unique set of cultural and social conditions present in the province of Puglia, which was also the collection’s primary inspiration. Senatore is constantly inspired by communities and the actions and creations achievable through a site-specific, in-person approach to examining concepts of physical and virtual space and the challenges posed by the technical limitations of photography and cinematography. With Katy Hessel she discusses the collaboration and the origins of the bond she and Maria Grazia Chiuri formed over their shared passion for Italian feminist art.

I think you’ll probably agree with me that the world is in a weird place! Over the last few months of lockdown, world fear and hysterical, relentless media reporting about nothing but coronavirus, I’ve gone through the emotional spectrum. One day OK and fairly positive, and the next one bummed out and disheartened. If we focus on the outer events, it all looks so hopeless and messed up. On today's edition of The Aid Station we meet Andrea Trabuio, Head of Mass Events, RCS Sports & Events in Italy. We travel to a small village near Milan and hear of how every day routine is key for Andrea during these times. Walking his two dogs in the morning, breakfast with his wife, who comes from Zimbabwe, and connecting virtually with his team each day as well as his love of cooking. Andrea comments that "it seems we have more time, but it's not true because the days seem to finish very early" He shares the challenge of wresting with the unknowns of the re-scheduling some of Italy's and indeed the world's most iconic events such as the Giro d' Italia and Milan Marathon as well as a number of events in the Middle East. Andrea says he has no fear for the future "this is a time to go deep inside and leave your mind to go where it wants, everything will be alright" He also feels it is important to appreciate the meaning of the small things.
