“Volunteering is a great way to get to know people, it's a great way to get inspired. So, I would recommend it to anybody who wants to go to a race but they're nervous because they don't know people. Volunteering you know people instantly. You know them very very well.” In this episode, Luis chats with Mara Klassen, Emily O'Rourke, Barb Sims, Jennifer Gray, Brenda Luce, Roland Hyatt, Joanie Andersen, Tom Taylor, and Bryan Gray about volunteering at race events. They explain why they like to volunteer, their observations out there on the course, how they help the runners, bonds and friendships that form, and what they have coming up next. Was läuft anders, was vielleicht sogar besser? Und was hat es eigentlich mit dieser Tauben-Aid-Station auf sich? Eine Episode, die Perspektiven weitet – mit Humor, Haltung und ein bisschen Fernweh. Reinklicken, Horizont aufziehen.

“Am I ever thinking about I want to die? Yeah, maybe. But the point is, I'm not alone. I'm not alone.”Chris Chan got into running simply because he was looking to be active and needed something other than soccer. He didn't know he'd be getting into something so important to his life, and so fulfilling. He also didn't realize what a learning journey it would be. Finding supportive people who had similar interests was one thing, but learning about men's mental health and how that was missing from his life was something else entirely. His involvement with the Mustache Miler certainly propelled that forward, and having a great community within 5 Peaks and his North Burnaby Runners also did as much. Chris also had a cancer diagnosis in his journey which made finishing his latest marathon in Victoria, all the more special.“I just said, I'm going to walk past the finish line. I don't care about the time. But what I care about is in the moment I feel I'm alive. I feel I'm back to normal when I cross the finish line.”This chat was so much fun. Shoutout to Jeannine Avelino for recommending Chris, I'm so glad she did and we got to chat. It was awesome and inspiring hearing about his mental health journey. “I run for a purpose now, and that purpose has continued to evolve over the years.”Jay Tinsley wasn't always a runner but the sport certainly stuck with him once he embraced it. The sense of community that followed is what has kept Jay around, and all he wants to do is share that with others. As a leader of Black Men Run Trail and Ultra Running Fanatics (TURF), Jay's mission is to bridge the gap between the road and trail running communities, encouraging others to embrace the joys of trails. His efforts to introduce trail running to more members of BMR reflect his belief in fostering connection and adventure: “How can I get the rest of my guys, who pretty much stick to the roads, to feel that sense of community in the trail world as well?”Jay creates many events and opportunities through BMRTURF (he runs the Phoenix chapter) to get off the roads and onto the trails. Even though his community is strong and supportive, he still worries from time to time that people aren't hearing his message. "I have irrational anxiety that no one will show up," Jay joked, only to note that his community "always shows up."I had such a great time chatting with Jay. It's clear he's supportive and passionate about this sport, and wants to get as many others involved as he can. Mixing assassins and child care; what could go wrong? In 25 parts, edited from the works of FinalStand.Listen and subscribe to the ► Podcast at Connected..“Lying is fine, but take care to not cause suffering because that makes it wrong.”Keys jingled and Timothy walked through the door."Mr. Denver," Nikita got off before I could make introductions."Oh, you must be the cop," Timothy snorted."Does Cáel have so many we are labelled by profession?" her suspicious nature flared up."Nah. Unlike Gomer here," was he calling me a hick?"I'm New York born and bred. I know a police issued Beretta in a hip holster even under a jacket. Also, the next time Cáel calls me Mr. Denver will be the first," Timothy chuckled. "If it's any consolation, I can see why he's risking grave bodily injury by going out with you.""Does he think I'll shoot him if I catch him screwing around behind my back?" she asked pleasantly."Pretty much," Timothy winked at me."Good boy," she patted my cheek."Ah, the prospect of imminent pain reminds me; Timothy, I need two more favors," I begged."This is going to be good," Timothy replied sarcastically."I've got four girls lined up for Saturday night; three high society children and Nikita here. Is this okay, or do I need to take this somewhere else?" I began."This the nine year old?" he questioned."Aya and her two sisters," I replied."Sure. Every Park Avenue babe should get to meet a gay tattoo artist from Queens once in their life before Prom," Timothy nodded sagely. "The other thing.""Yeah; could you double-date with me. There is this school teacher who rooms with her older sister. The sister came through a nasty breakup recently and the teacher asked me if I could help out," I tried to sound upbeat."Wow; I don't know what to say," Timothy's mouth gaped. "I don't know what's dumber; asking your gay roommate to distract his fuck-mates sister so he doesn't end up screwing them both, or requesting this in front of the cop you are almost dating?""Wah; huh; what he said; that last part," Nikita glared at me."Hey, now," I warded her off. "There's barely a week of school left. Then she'll get a summer job and I won't be taking the kids to school anymore and that will be that.""You are sleeping with a teacher at the school your girls attend?" she gasped. "Why?""She's hot," I declared. Nikita looked shocked. "I mean really hot. Not as gorgeous as you, but she's very attractive."Don't think I'd lost my damn mind. I had, in fact, learned something over four years of being far hornier than smart. See, when a girl thinks you are true blue and you cheat, you are a scumbag. If a girl thinks you've slept around and now you are hers and hers alone, you cheating still makes you dirt, but that is ameliorated by the deep-seated fear that she did something wrong. If you are openly a man-whore when you start dating, you can cheat. She thinks she's weaning you off your promiscuous ways. This toleration is not limitless, so be warned. Make every indiscretion count. Eventually she will give up and dump you. Refer to the break-up sex discussion earlier. My mentor once asked me if one woman would ever be enough. I told her that I always thought one woman would be enough and I was always wrong. One of these days I hoped to meet a woman who could satisfy my sexual urges and could keep my balls in a vice to stop me from straying. Then I'd be happy."You need to stop that," Nikita threatened me. "My fiancé cheated on me. I'm not going to put up with it from you.""I already promised them I'd go out at least once," I reasoned. "You wouldn't want me to treat you like that.""I'm not them," she bit her lower lip. "This roving eye of yours has got to stop and soon." See; a license to cheat. I really liked Nikita and I wanted to make an effort to keep her happy. Somehow I could keep my libido under some kind of restraint; for 80 days. Then my co-workers at Havenstone would own me like their prison bitch, providing I was still alive."I'll do my best," I promised. We hugged and kissed. She wasn't gone thirty seconds when my phone rang. It was Odette. I told her to come on over so Timothy shot me with his Nerf gun."Cáel, consider having sex with me," Timothy teased."What? I'm not gay," I pouted."Oh, I know but you'll be dead soon so the sexual ambiguity won't be something you have to deal with for long," Timothy laughed."I'll put it on my bucket list," I sighed. "Double-dating with me?""Sure. It isn't like life with you has been dull," Timothy taunted me. I groaned.(Friday)"I have today off," Odette murmured to me as I cut off the alarm. That had to have been the issue she'd been holding back on last night."I have to work; being the first week of my three month internship and all," I sighed."Are you sure I can't convince you to be late?" she gave me a sultry look. She compounded that offer by stretching out, her knees in place so that her ass rose and wiggled suggestively. Last night I had introduced Odette to a form of doggy-style that didn't involve the man trying to drive her skull through the headboard. We had a long, dual-participant, sensual melding of bodies, control passing back and forth until the need for sleep became something she despised even as it took her."Not fair," I groaned into my pillow. When I looked out, she was still giving me that sexually hungry look and wiggling that ass. Why do I even pretend that I can have a normal sex life? I found myself arriving late and changing in the elevator on the way to the Executive Services floor. The two women with me were a viewing gallery I could have done without.Since I put everything on display; remember; no underwear; one of my two fellow travelers felt permitted to rub her hands along my abs while I was pulling my pants on."Goddess, he's hard," she moaned to her companion. "Come, have a feel." I didn't protest. Technically, stripping naked in a public place could get me fired."His back is very nicely defined," the other side as she ran her hands over my back and shoulders. "What is it that you do?""I'm with Executive Services," I replied. "Right now I'm suborned to Product Testing. I teach monkeys to ride unicycles." Their confused looks humored me."Actually, I'm with ES and I'm a gopher; I pick up stuff," I grinned."Oh; you are that guy from the elevator; the kneeling man," the first woman exclaimed. "They said you were funny. Goddess, our man sure is hot, but he is so dull.""Let me guess; you are with the Financial Investigations Unit?" I said. Trent."Yes," she smiled. Orgy time. "He's just as good looking, but you are so much more fun. My sister can't wait for you to become available.""Sister?" I prodded."Daphne Pale," she smiled suggestively yet again. My face lit up."Daphne?" I caught the lady off-guard by hugging her. "I think Daphne is great," I stepped back. "She's really nice to me. She's smart, gives good advice and treats me like I'm something more than a walking, breathing annoyance. What's your name?""Brielle," she informed me."Beautiful name," I remarked, as I went back to dressing."Do they let you see other women; besides those of ES?" the second woman questioned."I don't see any Havenstone women for 79 more days," I stated. "Corporate policy. After that, all requests for hunting licenses are submitted to Desiree; non-lethal weaponry only until I develop more refined survival skills."Blink. Blink."You are joking, right?" Woman Two muttered."Nope. Katrina feels it will be a great third quarter kick-off. Let some women get out of the office for a weekend. Besides, I get to hunt those hunting me. I think it will be fun, don't you?" I hummed along."Desiree?" the second woman asked for clarification as she pulled out her phone. I nodded. The doors opened; my floor; so I stepped out and hustled to Katrina's office with only seconds to spare. The meeting was normal, right up until Dora adjusted my tie as we were exiting the office."Where did you dress? A closet with the lights out?" she teased."In the elevator on the way up," I confessed. "Daphne, I met your sister; Brielle," in case she had more than one. "She felt up my stomach and I made her laugh," I added."You let her touch you?" Tigger inquired."Cáel, did you come to work dressed like you normally do?" Daphne teased."Yep," sighed."So you were naked in the elevator," Violet snickered."Yep," I confirmed."You should be relocated for that," Fabiola sneered."Damn Fabiola, why do you; what would he be relocated for? Getting dressed?" Paula groaned."He was naked in front of an employee," Fabiola explained."Two actually," I clarified. "They both did touch my naked flesh. It was a bonding experience.""Did you do any actual 'bonding'?" Dora winked."I hugged Brielle, but that was only because she was Daphne's sister and I'm not allowed to hug Daphne at this time," I answered."You can hug me; in a purely platonic way," Daphne murmured. We were at Buffy's desk; I was working with her today."Okay," I nodded. I took a single stride to Daphne. She closed with me and I put my arms around her waist. Daphne put her hands on my shoulders. Our heads got closer and closer. I let my hands roam higher up her back and through her long locks.Nose touched nose, I ran my hands through her hair until I tickled the back of her ears. Daphne's lips parted and her tongue played along the edges. I let my breath play along her cheeks as I worked to her left ear. I felt a sharp pain in my right ass."Ow!" I squalled; after I pulled away from Daphne's ear.I tried to fully spin around, but Daphne wasn't letting go. I caught sight of a furious Buffy, small knife in hand, burning holes in me with her eyes.

It's Anchor Down Week baby and we have the man with the vision, Anchor Down Ultra Race director, Jay Paganelli!Jay shares his journey into race directing and the birth of Anchor Down. The race started in 2015 and was designed to be a challenging and authentic ultra race. Jay wanted to create an event that turned off most runners and tested their limits. The race takes place in Colt State Park, Rhode Island, and offers 6, 12, and 24-hour options. The goal was to create a race that honored the tradition of ultra running and fostered a sense of camaraderie among participants. Jay's passion for the running community and his dedication to creating authentic and challenging races shines through in Anchor Down Ultra. Anchor Down is  also known for its epic aid station and high-quality volunteers like Juice Box Guy. Jay, and his dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to create a memorable experience for the runners. The budget for the event is extensive, as it involves securing a state park, paying staff and subcontractors, and obtaining insurance. The race has strict qualification standards to ensure that participants are committed and passionate about being a part of the Anchor Down community. Anchor Down Ultra (ADU) has a preferred entry path that guarantees entry to those who make the effort to qualify and contribute to the ultrarunning community. The race also offers standard entry and an application process for special cases. ADU is known for its authentic and challenging nature, with a start time of 7pm to create a unique experience of running through the night. The race has a cult-like community and attracts elite runners who compete alongside recreational runners. The event has a low-key atmosphere with minimal advertising. In this final part of the conversation, Jay and Erika discuss the upcoming Anchor Down Ultra and share some insights and advice for runners. They talk about the importance of preparation and training for specific race conditions, as well as embracing the challenges and difficulties that come with ultra running. Jay also shares some funny anecdotes about previous races and the unique experiences at Anchor Down. During the tros, Eric and Erika open the episode up LIVE from Colt State Park as they just finished helping with trail prep for ADU this weekend. In the first part, they address how to plan training for athletes with limited time (30-45 minutes per workout) and provide recommendations on increasing intensity sessions per week. In the second part, they discuss the balance between strength training and cycling for downhill and enduro mountain bikers, and suggest reducing the frequency of strength training to focus more on cycling. In this part of the conversation, the hosts discuss strength training and race nutrition and hydration planning. They recommend one heavy day of strength training per week, with the other two days focused on lighter weight, full-body fitness and functional fitness. They also suggest incorporating agility work and mobility work for off-road athletes. In terms of race nutrition and hydration planning, they advise not skimping on hydration and nutrition and carrying more supplies than necessary. They emphasize the importance of knowing what will be available at aid stations and training with that nutrition beforehand. Keywords training planning, limited time, intensity sessions, strength training, cycling, mountain biking, strength training, race nutrition, hydration planning, full-body fitness, functional fitness, agility work, mobility work, off-road athletes, aid stations, supplies, training Takeaways When training with limited time, it's beneficial to increase the frequency of intensity sessions, but not beyond two to three sessions per week. For athletes with only 30-45 minutes per workout, incorporating shorter high-intensity intervals can be effective for improving aerobic capacity. Consider cross-training activities like running or rowing to add variety and improve overall durability. When feeling fatigued from strength training, it may be helpful to reduce the frequency and focus more on cycling workouts. Maintaining strength training with one session per week can be sufficient during the cycling season. Incorporate one heavy day of strength training per week and focus on lighter weight, full-body fitness and functional fitness for the other two days. Include agility work and mobility work in your training routine, especially for off-road athletes. Carry more supplies than necessary for race nutrition and hydration, especially if relying solely on aid stations. Know what will be available at aid stations and train with that nutrition beforehand. "If you can do a block of 30 minutes of tempo, you have a warm up and a cool down that brings you to 45 minutes." "If you can't even get in enough tempo to make it a good workout, forget about it and just do high intensity." "I think you can do that with one heavy day a week." "When is it worth it to carry more and stop less?" "Don't skimp... prioritize hydration and nutrition." He explains how running became a coping mechanism and a way to find control and freedom in a challenging time.He shares how he found a way to get though those difficult years by setting up 'aid stations' along the way which included: visits from family while in prison, a 50 mile race in the midst of a trial, and a backyard 50k in the prison yard.TakeawaysThe Next Aid Station mindset is about focusing on the next step or milestone rather than being overwhelmed by the entire journey.Running and life are directly correlated and we need in implement lessons learned into each aspectRunning can be a powerful coping mechanism during difficult times, providing a sense of control and freedom.Appreciating the opportunity to run and being grateful for the experience can enhance the enjoyment and fulfillment of the sport.Ultra running is more than just winning races, it is a community-driven sport with a deeper meaning.Finding balance between running and other aspects of life is important.Visit trailto100.com for coaching details, SWAG, and more!Show Links:@thejakekilgoreTrial Running Book on AmazonThe Next Aid Station Podcast~Leave us a review!~Click here to leave a review on appleClick here to rate us on SpotifySupport the show

The chill of the water at Ironman Coeur d'Alene was nothing compared to the cold shock I received just weeks before—the crash that threatened to derail months of preparation. Yet, as I narrate my tale of conquering the unexpected, from the restfulness that followed the accident to the frigid swim and a marathon that tested my limits, you'll discover the essence of endurance racing is as much about mental resilience as it is about physical prowess. Together, we explore the art of pacing, the critical choices made in the spur of the moment, and how to maintain control even when the body screams to stop or go. Every stride, every stroke, every turn of the pedal is a lesson in meticulous planning and execution, a symphony where each note is a planned training session or a strategic decision. We delve into the importance of a disciplined approach, from the granular details of daily training flow charts to the high-stakes moments that define a race. Join me as I reflect on the strategies that build a foundation strong enough to withstand the pressures of race day, and how a structured blueprint is crucial for anyone seeking to push their limits in the world of endurance sports.
