They emphasize the importance of active management for wild turkey habitats, exploring the behavioral patterns of turkeys as they prepare for breeding season, their foraging habits, and effective management techniques to enhance turkey populations. The conversation highlights the significance of understanding turkey behavior and habitat needs to ensure successful management and conservation efforts. This conversation delves into the management strategies for wild turkeys, focusing on habitat techniques for March and April. The discussion highlights the importance of managing food plots, controlling grasses, and creating suitable nesting environments. The speakers emphasize the significance of diversity in habitat management and the need for proactive measures to ensure successful turkey reproduction. They also share insights on the nesting behavior of turkeys and the critical factors influencing nest success.
During this week's podcast Matt Dye walk you through a recent Whitetail Properties LandBeat video. We dive deep into the details, steps, and nuances of the technique of old field management. These steps if done correctly can produce the most valuable food and cover on a recreational farm. Exposing the seed bank once non-native grasses have been removed is an easy yet incredibly valuable opportunity for wildlife. The main objective with this technique is to change the vegetation from non-native cool season grass dominated to diverse forbs, shrubs, and some native grasses. Ideally the composition is similar to the following over time, 60% forbs, 20% shrubs, and 20% native grasses. These acres will offer some of the best forage and cover for species like deer, turkey, and quail. Find out what you're missing when you begin to manage with a purpose and promote native species! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XyT8GanbbM
Matt Dye and Adam Keith discuss a recent study by Dr. Craig Harper on deer bedding blocks using hinge cuts and canopy manipulation. The study, conducted in Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee, involved 3, 10-acre hardwood blocks with 10-acre treatment areas and 5-acre control areas. Deer activity increased significantly, with daily detections rising from 1.4 to 7.5 after treatment. The study found a 435% increase in deer activity in treated areas and a 41% decrease in predator detections. They emphasize the importance of strategic placement and management of bedding thickets for effective deer hunting.

Matt Dye and Brady Bradley discuss the importance of proper timber management, emphasizing the need for a multi-step process. They highlight the critical order of operations: "Don't thin unless you plan on burning and don't burn unless you plan on thinning." They address scenarios for both closed-canopy forests without invasives and those with invasive species like multiflora rose and autumn olive. For invasive-free Timber, the process involves timber harvest followed by thinning and burning. For Timber with invasives, initial treatment is necessary before thinning and burning. They stress the importance of patience and thorough planning to achieve long-term success in timber management.

This week Kyle Hedges and Matt Dye bring you a discussion regarding the importance, preparation, execution, and benefits of creating soft edges throughout your property. For years the understanding of creating or softening the edge between two very distinct habitat types such as trees to a food plot edge is necessary and valuable. This would be an example of a hard edge that gets softened. However, in today's podcast, we talk about creating soft edges and corridors through herbaceous cover, where previously there weren't existing edges! Kyle has been using specific herbicide applications around food plot edges and through dense rank native warm season grass stands to promote a heavier presence of annual broadleaf weeds, opposed to rank grasses. This is a prime example of soft edge feathering. This practice produces more forage than before while still promoting vertical structure, yet it is not nearly as dense to traverse for many different game species. This practice is very simple to replicate, affordable, and impactful in how deer will navigate your farm if done properly. Take a listen and share this with someone who needs to hear about this practice of soft edge development.

On this week's podcast, we compare and contrast two different regions of the great state of Texas. Kyle Hedges joins Matt Dye on this podcast as the recommendations begin to flow. As we know and share during this podcast, the region you own or hunt property in makes a considerable difference. We highlight two different properties this week, one that receives only 21 inches of rainfall a year and another that gets over 50, both in the state of TX, both that want to manage deer and wild turkey. 30 Inches of rain doesn't seem like a lot, but over the course of a year and the timing of these rains has serious implications on vegetation growth, prescribed usage, stress periods for wildlife and much more. We hope you enjoy this week's podcast and learn more about the natural world and the factors that make it work and flow. #ForLoveoftheLand Land & Leagacy is Powered by Simplecast

We would be hypocritical if we didn't implement cooperatives in our region. These cooperatives are wide ranging in the structure, some will be very organized while others will be fresh and new. However, the important thing is they will be started and communication can begin between landowners. This week we have two interviews during the podcast, one with Matt Dye and Seth Harker who was before his time and started working with neighbors to improve the overall neighborhood he leased ground in. Although not all jumped on board right out of the gate, his region is now seeing some incredible results, routinely harvesting multiple 150" class whitetails yearly and countless turkeys. In comparison, Adam and Chad discuss how they plan to begin a cooperative around the Prairie Hollow property. At this time the neighborhood is full of hunters, but very little communication between the groups. In time, with open dialogue, this too will be a region to watch wildlife and habitat be improved. This week is full of wildlife cooperative news! We hope you will join us in standing up for wildlife and the land they roam. Carry the torch in your neck of the woods to discuss goals and expectations with others openly. #ForLoveoftheLand Land & Legacy is Powered by Simplecast

Anticipation is at an all-time high this week. Here in Missouri, the spring turkey season has now opened. This week's podcast is special as you will hear from two different groups of Land & Legacy hunters hitting the turkey woods. This Part 1 podcast is focused around the scouting, land management, and hunting strategy leading into the opener of turkey season. One team will consist of Seth Harker, Trace Harker and Matt Dye, while in an adjoining county, Adam Keith and Chad Keith will be joining forces. This is no competition, however, just two farms that require two different strategies to not only scout effectively, but to also hunt. First, you will hear from Seth and Matt and how they plan to capitalize on consistent images from the Cuddelink system. However, despite several years of success from this location, a massive habitat management project just went underway. So this will surely plan into the setup and hunt. In contrast, Chad and Adam are hunting a cattle farm with tillable acres and large pastures. The turkey numbers are high, but the consistent changes of cattle, farmers harvesting, spraying, etc, may play into the strategy of the hunt. Be sure to follow along with the social pages to see how both crews of hunters do during the opening days of turkey season 2020 here in Missouri. Next week, you will catch part 2, which will be the hopeful successful hunts! Stay tuned as we bring you the turkey hunting action. Enjoy. Learn. I’m joined in this episode by Land & Legacy’s Matt Dye. Matt has an extensive knowledge on habitat management and working to better your land for all wildlife. We cover some of the first things to tackle on trying to get the most of your land, tree selection, preferred forage, should you timber it, and more.
On this episodes of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan talks with Matt Dye of Land & Legacy about habitat improvements for non land owners. Many of us to do not own or lease our hunting property. This usually means that we do not get the opportunity to do habitat work. However, if you do convince the land owner to let you plant food plots or make habitat improvements for wildlife, this episode will give you several great ideas. Matt walks talks to us about how to communicate with the land owner about what your goals are as well as how to implement them. Matt shares ideas about food plots, hinge cutting, and several other ideas that will not only benefit the land owner but you as well. Nine Finger Chronicles is Powered by Simplecast

In this episode we talk with professional land consultants Matt Dye and Adam Keith about their land management company (Land & Legacy) which is designed to help landowners improve their land to a more productive state both financially and biologically. We also touch on why they moved their land brokerage licenses over to United Country Real Estate as they explain which tools and services are most important to today's land brokers and agents. This is an awesome episode with two first class land entrepreneurs.
Today we sit down in our dainty little room at the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans in which you could practice archery in our bathroom it was so large. We were there for the Quality Deer Management Association's National Convention and were lucky enough to convince Adam Keith and Matt Dye to join us. I asked them to convince that I am wrong about not being able to justify a land purchase for deer hunting. We had a great time and despite a few technical issues, were able to really get excited about purchasing property in the future. www.theelementwild.com Deer Hunters Check Out : QDMA All Things Land & Legacy: https://www.landandlegacy.tv Newest Fishing Vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJXVY_XnFz8 Tyler and the Tribe: "Born"
Adam Keith and Matt Dye from Land and Legacy chatted with us about a lot of hot topics in the world of Southern Hunting and Land management! Welcome for the final segment of Land Management: Land & Legacy presented by Whitetail Rendezvous, and I’m here with one of the owners, Matt Dye. He and Adam Keith own Land & Legacy. And we’re gonna talk about, “The Plan,” the first part, first segment. If you haven’t listened to it, listen to it at whitetailrendezvous.com, and the second part with “Boots on the Ground.” Listen to that. Now we’re gonna wrap it up with Matt, “The Plan.” So, you’ve done all this work, you’ve been on the ground, now what happens? Matt: This is where we get down to the nitty-gritty, Bruce. This is where really our recommendations become written form. And, as we’ve talked in the past, Bruce, when we got started with Land & Legacy, we wanted something, our product, to live on and influence people. We want to share information that’s going to change people’s, honestly, lives, and change properties because there’s such a draw to land and to people. People want to be a part of it. Welcome to the second installment of land management with Land & Legacy Welcome to the second installment of land management with Land & Legacy. Sponsored by, provided by, offered by Whitetail Rendezvous Podcast. And I have Matt Dye, who is the owner, he and Adam Keith own Land & Legacy. Matt, today we’re going to talk about boots on the ground. The last segment we talked about why land management. And, folks, if you haven’t listened to that, go to my website, whitetailrendezvous.com, and go back and… I don’t remember the number right now, but it’s there. And just look for this miniseries and, you know, listen to that because that will help you understand what we’re going to talk about today, boots on the ground. Matt, so we answered the question, I called up and said, you know, I got a 40-acre, 120 acres, and I want somebody to put eyes on it. And you helped me understand why, you know, land management was important to me and my buddies on our farm. Now we’re going to go boots on the ground, so tell us about that process in the next 20, 30 minutes. Matt: Yeah, absolutely. This is where the fun, fun portion happens. Because we’ve already established that, okay, based on your hunting seasons, your success or failures, or just overall knowledge of the habitat, that something needs to change. Something isn’t clicking, it’s not working, you’re not seeing what you want to see, you want to see improvements. So we’ve established that land management is necessary on your property and now we are actually able to take action and get all the information Adam and I need to be able to make our proper recommendations. Matt Dye of Land & Legacy …https://www.landandlegacy.tv/ And I’m on with Matt Dye this morning, he’s with Land & Legacy. He and Adam Keith started Land & Legacy a while back and they’re just doing gangbusters. And they do land management, but it’s a heck of a lot more than that. So we just got together and said, “Let’s do a little series this spring,” and that’s what we’re doing. And today is Part 1 and this is land management, Part 2 is going to come up later on and we’re going to talk about food plots with Land & Legacy. But today we’re going to break it down in three parts. We’re going to break it down into, one, why land management. Two, boots on the ground. And, three, the plan. And it will be a 30-minute segment, so I’m going to break them up into three different segments for your listening to make it easier so you don’t have to listen to the whole thing straight through and wonder, “Oh, I want to get back to that place.” So we’re going to make it easy. A native of Virginia, Matt Dye got his start in the outdoors at a very young age. His family’s farming and hunting background has guided him through his education and career dedicated to land and wildlife management. Matt’s goal is to educate others in land conservation while reaching folks through the enjoyment of God’s Creation. Land (n): ground or soil of a specified situation, nature, or quality ”Harmony with land is like harmony with a friend; you cannot cherish his right hand and chop off his left.” – Aldo Leopold Legacy (n): something received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past. “Jesus shows us how to leave a legacy, a legacy of glory, His glory, not ours. If, by His grace, we become humble, dependent, proven, focused, persevering, obedient, and faithful men and women who focus our lives on making the Father known to those He gives to us, we will leave a legacy of glory. Not our glory, but His, the glory He wants to give to the Father through us.” What greater legacy could we leave? “The legacy we leave is the life we lead, the life of Christ in us and through us passed on to others in the power of the Holy Spirit.” (www.bible.org/article/leaving-legacy-glory) Receive a $50 goHUNT Gear Shop Gift Card by using code WR when joining Insider http://bit.ly/2s8dX5k . Recently I asking the question on Facebook "Can Money Buy Big Bucks?", and received a variety of results. On today's episode I continue the conversation with Matt Dye and Adam Keith of the Land & Legacy podcast about what it takes to grow, hold, and harvest big bucks on a regular basis. We discuss the big buck equation and what necessities a whitetail buck needs in order to get to big buck status. Those topics include nutrition, age, and security along with a variety of subcategories. This is an interesting conversation that is meant to help open your eyes out the amount of money some people put towards harvesting world class deer. Lastly, we ask the questions "Is the hunting industry... doing more good or bad for hunting overall?"

Land & Legacy Adam Keith Born and raised in Southwest Missouri, this local call the Ozark Mountains home. This drives his passion to make home a better place for future generations. From a young age Adam knew his calling was to leave things better than he found it and share God’s Creation with others! Matt Dye Native of Virginia, Matt Dye got his start in the outdoors at a very young age. His family’s farming and hunting background has guided him through his education and career dedicated to land and wildlife management. Matt’s goal is to educate others in land conservation while reaching folks through the enjoyment of God’s Creation. https://www.landandlegacy.tv/ Land (n): ground or soil of a specified situation, nature, or quality – “Harmony with land is like harmony with a friend; you cannot cherish his right hand and chop off his left.” – Aldo Leopold Legacy (n): something received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past. – “Jesus shows us how to leave a legacy, a legacy of glory, His glory, not ours. “The legacy we leave is the life we lead, the life of Christ in us and through us passed on to others in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

When hunting bucks we tend to shoot the younger ones. Guilty as charged – I’m like anybody else, a buck’s a buck and down. As time goes on however, and you get older, you want to zero in on mature bucks. It’s good for the herd and certainly good for growing big deer. If you…
