When we invited Michael Scrogan; host of The Hunting Stories Podcast on our show he had a special request. He asked to have a "round table" conversation with some of our Fall Obsession team members and exchange hunting stories, hang out and just enjoy each other's company for an evening. So, that's exactly what we did! Michael, as a relatively new hunter himself shares a little about his journey and what inspired him to start a podcast, and then we dive in! If you are looking to tune into a conversation that has a "hunting camp" pulse to it and will make you feel like you are sitting around a campfire with us, then look no further! It's not every day that your second whitetail scores over 244 inches — and it's almost unheard of when you can make it happen at only 14 years old. But that's exactly what Hunter Windsor accomplished this past fall in Southern Ohio while hunting with his dad. In this episode, we dive into the story behind this once-in-a-lifetime buck, the special bond between father and son, and what it takes to make memories that last forever. This is one hunt — and one deer — you won't forget. In this episode of the HUNTR Podcast, we sit down with Jarrod Erdody—a guy who deserves more credit than he gets. He's consistently killing mature bucks and has quietly shaped the way a lot of hunters approach the game today. From overlooked public land marshes to aggressive early-season strikes, Jarrod has built a system that flat-out works. We get into how he's turned educational hunting strategy into powerful storytelling—and what it's taken to earn respect in an industry that's constantly evolving. It was a pleasure talking deer with someone who lives and breathes this pursuit the same way we do. Deer season's getting closer, and these are the conversations that keep us locked in. We've talked a lot of whitetails in recent weeks, and Sam has gradually shared his own hunting journey from the 2024 season. However there is one big piece of the story that has been missing, and that is the experiences of our Production Director Nick Powell. He joins Sam for this episode to take us through his hunting journey last year, and namely his encounters with a buck called "Bow Blind Buck". Without doubt the most mature buck on the property, this deer had Nick and Sam scratching their heads multiple times trying to figure out how to hunt him. Nick was the first to actually put eyes on the buck in person, and what followed was nothing short of chaotic and exhausting events for any hunter. In this episode of the Deer IQ podcast we are wrapping up our exciting series - Mature Buck Mindsets, and in this episode we're looking at 3 ways a big buck slayer's brain is different than most, and how you can then start to think like, and have the brain of a big buck slayer. And we are going to dig into some neuro science that I don't think has ever been applied to deer hunting, so you'll want to take good notes. And stay to the end because I have 2 giveaways for you that will give you a huge step up to having that brain and much more consistent success on big deer. So, here are the top things to look for during this episode:• Regarding brain science, where is all the decision making made in the brain?• What is automaticity, and how is it both a good and bad thing when it comes to deer hunting.• What is the basal ganglia's role in our behaviors, and how must we leverage this to be a more consistent hunter?• What are the 3 ways big buck slayers use their brain differently that we can leverage to change our brain, and change our results. And there's a lot more in there, so lets get to it and UP your Deer IQ!Year Theme: To consistently take the top deer where you huntSeries: Mature Buck MindsetsEpisode # 77Guest: Host Adam LewisIQ ranking - 10 (Advanced)DEER IQ Services: • The NEW Deer IQ TEST & Consultation HERE: https://deeriq.com/full-assessment/ • For interest in our NEW Whitetail Workshop see HERE: https://deeriq.com/deeriq-whitetail-workshop/ • Other Services including our Coached Small Group, land and hunting plans for your private land, or a public land hunting analysis, visit HERE: https://deeriq.com/services/ More from DEER IQ: Website: https://deeriq.com Facebook Private Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/511109237864762 Deer IQ FREE Journal: https://deeriq.com/journal/ Pressured Public Lands Hunting Guide: https://deeriq.com/public-land-hunting-guide/ Newsletter Signup: https://deeriq.com/signup/ Patreon - Contribute Financially to Deer IQ: https://www.patreon.com/DeerIQPatreon Scent Control Regimen: https://deeriq.com/scentcontrol-regimen/

Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa's cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I've photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I've tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that's the essential thing. Robby hosts a great buck hunter on today's Rokcast: James Yates. James has taken nine big bucks in the last several seasons on mostly easy-to-obtain tags, but it was the 2024 season that pushed him over the top. James took three big bucks in just a few weeks' time across three western states. Two of those bucks are knocking on 200" gross, too. James and Robby jump into how this incredible season unfolded, from the scouting to the starving, the lack of sleep to the seconds leading up to the shots, to the weapons, the areas, and much more. This is a big episode with many takeaways on what it takes for a guy to find big bucks in this day and age. James is also the Archery/Hunting Editor for Western Hunter Magazine. In this episode of the Deer IQ podcast I'm with a very well known student of whitetail and whitetail hunters, Richard P. Smith, who has been an outdoor writer his whole life focusing on and studying whitetail. He has interviewed thousands of big buck killers and found some common themes we can learn from and put into practice to accomplish the same. And you can download our free journal to use with the podcast, that's really going to help. Here are the top things to look for during this episode:• What does Richard mean by “walking with whitetails” and how does this contribute to his knowledge base?• What key characteristics has Richard noticed that big buck killers all have in common?• What percent of those hunters are lucky, vs. good, and what can we take from that?• What do most hunter do wrong when targeting big old bucks?• According to us both, what can't even our modern technology give us advantage on when it comes to deer hunting?• What are Richards top 2 things he suggests you do to more consistently get chances at the biggest• bucks where you hunt? In this episode of Generations of Hunt, I had the pleasure of chatting with Matt, one of our seasoned big buck hunters. We kicked things off discussing the temptations of Black Friday sales, especially when it comes to upgrading hunting gear. Matt shared his recent gear changes, including his switch to the Maverick saddle and the Ranger 22 pack, which have significantly improved his hunting experience. We then dove into Matt's hunting season, which started off slow in October due to concerns about CWD and EHD affecting the deer population. Matt spent the early part of the season exploring public lands and attending the Bowhunter Chronicle camp, where he finally started seeing some deer activity. By late October, he began getting promising pictures of bucks on his family's property, which reignited his hunting fervor. Matt recounted the thrilling hunt on November 2nd, where he successfully shot a massive buck after a brief but intense encounter. He detailed the meticulous process of tracking and recovering the deer, which ended with a short and successful track job. The buck, a mainframe eight with a kicker, turned out to be his biggest to date, and Matt shared his excitement about getting it mounted. We also touched on the broader aspects of hunting, including the challenges of finding the perfect backpack and the importance of having the right gear. Matt and I discussed the potential changes in hunting regulations, such as the idea of a one-buck rule or an earn-a-buck system, and reminisced about the nostalgia of traditional muzzleloader seasons.
