Parenting takes work from both the mom and the dad. Join Mike and guest Jay Payleitner as they discuss Jay's new book, Moms Bringing Out the Best in Dads. Noble Warriors team members Christen and Hollie participate with experience on the other side of the table, offering their perspectives as wives and moms and how everyone benefits when Mom and Dad work as a team. “Guys and gals are different,” says Jay, and he hopes to provide some insight for moms on what dads are thinking - or not thinking - and how a dad's best resource can be his kids' mom. You'll gain insight, have a laugh, and maybe get a few feathers ruffled as you hear how his wife has taught him how to swaddle and learned when to roll her eyes at him. Most importantly, along the way, she figured out how to bring out the best in him as a dad. “Moms bringing out the best in dads actually brings out the best in moms as well,” says Christen. “It helps us be a better mom when we are helping our husband be a better dad, so I think it's full circle.” Resources: Helping Dads Help Moms by Noble Warriors Moms Bringing Out the Best in Dads: Teaming Up to Help Your Family Thrive Learn more about Jay Payleitner Books by Jay Payleitner National Coalition of Ministries to Men The Story of Us: A Couples Devotional by FamilyLife View Show Notes: NobleWarriors.org/episode83 Leave a Review: If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to leave us a review. There are right-wing conservative Dungeons & Dragons players, and there are left-wing liberal Dungeons & Dragons players, but can they play at the same table? On this weeks episode, we examine a passage from David Ewalt's "Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons and Dragons and the People Who Play It" and ask the questions, can gaming bridge our cultural divides? If you were to have met them years ago, DJ and Robin Angaiak wound not have been at the top of your list for missionaries. In fact, they were an unlikely couple in so many ways. Neither had much, if any, relationship with God. Their relationship with each other was unhealthy. There was so much hopelessness and pain. However, God has an incredible way of not only returning what's been stolen from us, but also in turning it around for our good and the good of those around us. As you listen, you'll learn: How a key relationship in school opened up DJ's heart years later. How Robin's insatiable search for something more and reading William Shakespeare opened Robin's eyes to the Gospel. Why the journey from God's calling to actually stepping into missions took so long (and how knowing about call kept them going). The Tab Se Ab Tak Show :: Inspiration & Motivation drawn from Stories in Mythology and History
What will you do if you were so beautiful that people never distrust you? What will you do if your beauty was perpetual…if you never aged a day? If you haven't read “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde, you should read it. If you have read it and haven't figured it out, you probably read it when you were too young. If you have read and understood it - I'd love to hear your thoughts, but before sending them in, do listen to mine. In this episode, I tell you the story of this amazingly philosophical, possibly autobiographical story by Oscar Wilde, the writer who helped me figure out why art will always be felt and never understood. अगर आपने Oscar Wilde की story "The Picture of Dorian Gray" नहीं पढ़ी है, तो इसे ज़रूर पढ़ें। Note: This is a longer episode, but I didn't want to break the story into two…I felt that it's spirit would be lost if I did that or if I shortened it in any way. Elsewhere on the web: http://tabseabtak.com http://instagram.com/tabseabtak About the Tab Se Ab Tak Podcast: This show tells stories from the World Mythology (mostly Hindu, Greek, Egyptian, Sumerian, and far-eastern mythologies,) and World History (mostly Indian, European, American,) and shares the folklore from around the world. It covers topics such as life and death, love and heartbreaks, personal relationships, pursuit of happiness, success and failure etc. If you want to lose yourself into a world of mythological, historical, and sometimes fictional stories, interpreted to answer the questions you find yourself wrestling with...and you know Hindi, put your headphones on, and step in. Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas hit cinemas thirty years ago like a shot to the back of the head. Starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and an amazing Ray Liotta, the film climbed the crime ladder of hits wrong by wrong, now standing toe to toe with The Godfather and The Sopranos. New York journalist and film critic Glenn Kenny has written the definitive book on the film – Made Men: The Story of Goodfellas – an essential read for all you mooks out there. John Bleasdale talked to him about the film, his book and its impact and we got on like The Bamboo Lounge on fire.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/writers-on-film. Hosted on Acast. Bloody. Unnerving. Thrilling. Thirty-plus years after its release, Goodfellas still packs a punch. Or should I say a kick in the head? Martin Scorsese directed the movie. Based on Wiseguy, a book by Nicholas Pileggi about the gangster Henry Hill, Goodfellas stars Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci and Lorraine Bracco. The movie is renowned for its tracking shots, a wise-cracking and crazy-violent Joe Pesci, a shocking opening, complex and shifting storytelling and a heady mix of intimidating Italian guys. In this episode, I interview Glenn Kenny, the author of Made Men: The Story of Goodfellas about what he learned while researching and writing his book. Kenny is a film critic whose work has appeared in the New York Times and RogerEbert.com.
Mike and Dan are joined by Glenn Kenny, who talks about his new book, Made Men: The Story of Goodfellas. After explaining the genesis of the book, Glenn jumps into the 15 Minute Film Fanatics formation, discussing his overall impressions of the film, one of his favorite moments, and what he thinks of the ending. Along the way, they also discuss the film's initial test audiences, how the film portrays a closed "in or out" world of violence and sadism, and the viewer's relationship with Henry Hill. So stop making the meatballs, hide from that helicopter, and join us for an extended episode about a film that's universally admired and quoted. Thanks again to Glenn Kenny for joining us. Get a copy of Made Men on Amazon or wherever books are sold. Please follow or subscribe to the show wherever you get your podcasts and on Twitter @15MinFilm. Film critic Glenn Kenny went to see a struggling Martin Scorsese at his New York office around Christmas 1989, and found him working on a new, tabloid TV-inspired gangster movie about a mobster named Henry Hill. The film, of course, became Goodfellas, one of the greatest movies of all time. To mark its 30th anniversary, Kenney just released the excellent Made Men: The Story of Goodfellas. Treat yourself to it right here.In this episode, Kenny quickly wins us over with a reference to the classic SNL sketch "The Chris Farley Show," then shares stories of the tough spot Scorsese was in as he made Goodfellas; the gangster who connects Goodfellas, The Godfather and Green Book; and talking with Scorsese again a few days after The Irishman's Oscars shutout. Also, the Tom Cruise and Madonna idea. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Stone Men: the story of Palestine's stonemasons and the building of Israel with author Andrew Ross in discussion with Fida Touma Using some of the best-quality limestone deposits in the world and drawing on generations of artisanal knowledge, Palestinian stonemasons have built almost every state in the Middle East except one of their own. Today the business of quarrying, cutting, fabricating and dressing stone is the Occupied Territories' largest private employer, and supplies the construction industry in Israel, along with other countries in the region and overseas. Ross's engrossing and gracefully written story of this fascinating ancient trade shows how the stones of historic Palestine, and Palestinian labour, have been used to build the state of Israel - in the process, constructing 'facts on the ground'-even while the industry is central to Palestinians' own efforts to erect bulwarks against the Occupation. For more than a century, the hands that built Israel's houses, schools, offices, bridges and even its separation barriers have been Palestinian. This book, largely based on interviews in the region, asks how this record of labour and achievement can and should be recognised. About the speakers: Andrew Ross is a social activist and Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis at NYU. He has published more than twenty books, and is a regular contributor to the Guardian, the New York Times, The Nation and Al Jazeera. Fida Touma is an architect who trained in restoration at Riwaq Centre for Architecture Conservation, where she worked on numerous projects in the West Bank. She is currently Director General of the A.M. Qattan Foundation. This event was held at CBRL Kenyon in partnership with the Education Bookshop and Dar Al-Tifel Al-Arabi.

This CSN Original Production chronicles and unveils new tales of the journey that was Game 7 of the 2016 World Series. A game that saw the Chicago Cubs ending "the curse" and winning their first title in 108 years.
Kelly Crull sits down with CSN executive producers Ryan McGuffey and Sarah Lauch, the creators of ‘Reign Men: The Story Behind Game 7 of the 2016 World Series,” which premieres March 27 at 9:30 p.m. on CSN. McGuffey and Lauch share their experience making the 52-minute documentary as they sifted through hours of sound from the likes of Joe Maddon, Theo Epstein, Jason Heyward, Anthony Rizzo and more recapping the greatest baseball game ever played. Plus, hear a sneak peak of ‘Reign Men’ as Heyward and Epstein describe their perspective of the Rajai Davis game-tying homer and that brief rain delay that led to Heyward’s epic speech.
Within a year of D&D’s first release, the game became the biggest thing in the war gaming community. Not long after, the popularity of the game began to creep into the college world. College kids all over the world began forming clubs and entering the fantasy world of Dungeon and Dragons. What really propelled the game from an activity played by small groups of people to a name that would become familiar to everyone, whether they played it or not, was the unfortunate circumstances of a 16-year-old college student named James Dallas Egbert III. It was what happened to Egbert that began the belief in many that this fantasy roll-playing game was actually a promotion of such practices as Satanism, witchcraft, suicide, pornography, and murder.
