Has the American Church become an enterprise? In this eye-opening episode, Scott Schalchlin and I explore the tension that exists between excellence for the sake of the Gospel and excellence for performance sake. We discuss how some churches are becoming more like marketing presentations and shows, rather than being focused on helping hurting people. This is a must-listen for anyone who wants to better understand the state of the Church in America today. NICOLE DAVISDr. Nicole Davis is a wife, mother, pastor, Christian life coach, social science researcher, and conflict resolution practitioner. Her passion for family, women, and leadership has evolved and intensified over many decades. As a wife and mom of 30+ years, she has poured herself into nurturing and guiding her family to thrive and excel in self-discovery and their pursuit of their God-given abilities. As a practitioner with over 20 years of professional experience, her passion to impact women drives her every day. Dr. Davis' areas of research interest include gender inequality, organizational leadership, women empowerment, and family dynamics. She believes there is a huge distinction between a woman's calling, which is determined by God, and a church's doctrine about the utilization of women, which is a cultural decision predominantly determined by men. She advocates for churches of all denominations to begin having an open dialogue about systemic oppression and alienation against women. Especially those who show no regard for women's callings or competency levels. Women need to be developed and commissioned to serve at the highest levels. For this purpose, Dr. Davis examines the deep-rooted conflict concerning what God intended when He created Eve in the Garden of Eden. She asks poignant questions, inviting women to explore how they see themselves based on God's original plan for them and seeks to empower them to discover and unleash their strengths and to help them conquer self-defeating habits. Dr. Davis is also the co-founder, along with her husband, of https://empowertoengage.com/ (Empower to Engage), as well as an author, mediator, facilitator, conflict coach, a certified Marriage Today and Marriage on the Rock trainer, and a marriage and relationship coach. We often hear about sending missionaries to foreign countries. And we hear about evangelism efforts in the cities. But what about remote villages in Alaska. Listen as DJ and Robin Angaiak share how God began to prepare them, called them and provided for them and their entire family to take a months-long trip down the Yukon river in Alaska. It's an incredible story of God's faithfulness and growth. As you listen, you'll learn: Why DJ wasn't sure he wanted to share with Robin what God showed him while flying back from a conference. Why their previous boating experience was no preparation for what was to come. The challenges they faced as they prepared to embark on their first trip down the Yukon. Where they slept while on their trip. The places they could often find people congregating in the villages. How a prayer and a moose reminded them of Scripture. How things turned out differently than expected. Resources Angiak Family Story Boat: https://www.facebook.com/angaiakfamily Love the podcast? If you were to have met them years ago, DJ and Robin Angaiak wound not have been at the top of your list for missionaries. In fact, they were an unlikely couple in so many ways. Neither had much, if any, relationship with God. Their relationship with each other was unhealthy. There was so much hopelessness and pain. However, God has an incredible way of not only returning what's been stolen from us, but also in turning it around for our good and the good of those around us. As you listen, you'll learn: How a key relationship in school opened up DJ's heart years later. How Robin's insatiable search for something more and reading William Shakespeare opened Robin's eyes to the Gospel. Why the journey from God's calling to actually stepping into missions took so long (and how knowing about call kept them going). Before leaving for Uganda, Will Shehee felt like he and his family had a word from God - that God would protect them. In some ways, that made him feel invincible. But as he and Etta share in their second episode together with Scott they were far from invincible. Still, God showed His incredible faithfulness and used incredible tragedy to strengthen their faith and to reveal a much deeper truth. As you listen, you'll learn: Why Will felt like they would be invincible. What happened when tragedy struck. How God provided support for them in Uganda, and prepared them for this difficulty. What it was like to release even this tragedy to God. How God was faithful to Will and Etta to share a deeper truth with them on the same day. What they would like for you to remember when you're facing challenges or tragedies. This is a powerful and touching story. But even more - it's a story of God's goodness. Resources Will Shehee's YouTube channel This is the second of two episodes that Will and Etta recorded together with Scott. Have you ever found yourself in the face of fear or loss wondering if God is REALLY going to see you through it? It's at one of those times that Will and Etta Shehee learned a key truth about God's faithfulness - that it's EXACTLY when we want to question God that we most need to remind ourselves of God's faithfulness. That's when they learned that they could rest in God's goodness to see them through, no matter what the outcome. As you listen, you'll discover How being in Uganda for a few months still didn't prepare them for the shock of really moving their lives there. How simple cultural expectations caused MASSIVE confusion. How God prepared them for a very trying season using a pregnancy. How God turned a driver afraid for his life back around to help Will and Etta, and how his actions may have saved their lives. How God had just the right people in the right places at the right time. You're sure to be encouraged in our faith and challenged in your walk. I know I was.
