P: We walked the valleys and saw the people crying in need. Jesus reached out to them. He did not criticize or diminish their needs. He touched their lives and they were never the same. The love that flowed through him to them was God's healing love. L: Christ is risen! P: We sat at table in the Upper Room as Jesus told of his death and we wanted to discount his words. How could he die? We did not want to believe it. It was easier to proclaim with bravado our faith than to listen to his words. L: Christ is risen! P: We waited in the Garden of Sorrows while he prayed and watched in horror as he was betrayed with a kiss. We followed at a distance and denied, with Peter, ever knowing who he was. We were in the crowd that clamored for Barabbas' release and turned our backs as Pilate washed his hands of the crime. L: Christ is risen! P: We followed him to the hill and cringed as they nailed him to the Cross. We heard his words of forgiveness and love from the cross and felt the ground tremble as the sky darkened and he gave up his life, into his father's hands. L: Christ is risen! P: We ran from the empty tomb today, with the incredible news that He is Risen! He was not captured by death, but is risen from the dead, just as he said he would be. We come with the joy in our hearts to this day. As the flowers in our worship area burst with color, so we burst with the absolute joyous news CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA. AMEN. Did you know we serve a Mighty God? His power is incredible and still relevant today. In the past, seas were parted, thousands were fed with a few loaves of bread, and even the dead were raised to life. But God's power isn't just seen in big miracles—it's also in the small, everyday moments. Scientists have discovered a spark of light at the moment life begins, showing that life itself is a miracle, with each person created intentionally and with care. The most amazing display of this power is how God chose to become human. Jesus, who could command the universe, was born as a tiny, helpless baby, relying on Mary and Joseph for care. This act, called the incarnation, shows that true power is about serving others. Early Christians understood this, giving to those in need and trusting God to provide, even in tough times. God's power isn't just about fixing problems but being close to us in our struggles. When Lazarus died, Jesus didn't just perform a miracle—he wept with the family. This shows that even in our hardest moments, we are not alone. This Christmas, remember that God's power is active in both the big and small moments. Every struggle is seen, and every challenge can be faced with strength because the same mighty God who worked miracles then is still at work now. Creation is awe-inspiring, but it points to something greater than itself. Join us on the next Haven Today with Charles Morris as he continues the series Then Sings My Soul.

The seemingly impossible happened when hurricane-force winds changed the flow of the mighty Mississippi River. In August 2021, Hurricane Ida came ashore on the coast of Louisiana, and the astonishing result was a “negative flow,” meaning water actually flowed upriver for several hours. Experts estimate that over its life cycle a hurricane can expend energy equivalent to 10,000 nuclear bombs! Such incredible power to change the course of flowing water helps me understand the Israelites’ response to a far more significant “negative flow” recorded in Exodus. While fleeing the Egyptians who’d enslaved them for centuries, the Israelites came to the edge of the Red Sea. In front of them was a wide body of water and behind them was the heavily armored Egyptian army. In that seemingly impossible situation, “the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land . . . and the Israelites went through the sea” (Exodus 14:21–22). Rescued in that incredible display of power, “the people feared the Lord” (v. 31). Responding with awe is natural after experiencing the immensity of God’s power. But it didn’t end there; the Israelites also “put their trust” in God (v. 31). As we experience God’s power in creation, we too can stand in awe of His might and place our trust in Him.
