It's ironic that the festival spawned by this podcast is the very thing that caused this podcast to go dark for the past two months, but thank you all very much for staying with us as I got thru the final months of festival planning to pull off a successful year 1 of the Savage Wonder Festival of Veterans in the Arts. That said, I knew we needed to come roaring back with a kick-ass guest. We got one. https://www.phillipkennedyjohnson.com/ (Phillip Kennedy Johnson) is an Eisner-nominated writer and musician living in the Washington, DC/Baltimore region. His comics work has been published by DC, Marvel, BOOM! Studios, Archaia, IDW, Aftershock, and Scout Comics. He is the creator of comic series The Last God from DC Black Label, Last Sons of America, Warlords of Appalachia, Smoketown, and many more. Outside of writing, Johnson has a full-time career as a soldier, trumpet player, composer, arranger, and teacher. As a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, he regularly tours the continental United States with The U.S. Army Field Band and the Federal Brass of Washington, DC. Prior to joining the Army Field Band, he toured the world with the Glenn Miller Orchestra from 2004-2005, and has performed with the Moscow Ballet, the Dallas Opera, Washington Symphonic Brass, the Lexington Philharmonic, and the Benny Goodman Orchestra. She is a team physician for USA Artistic Swimming, USA Weightlifting, and USA Figure Skating. She also cares for Broadway shows and Cirque du Soleil when they come to the San Francisco Bay Area. She is past Treasurer and Board Member for the IADMS and is now on the board for The Bridge Dance Project and serves on the Executive Committee for the Taskforce on Dancer Health for Dance/USA. She has lectured nationally and internationally on various dance medicine topics, has published papers in medical journals and books, including criteria on determining readiness for pointe and her original research on demographics and dance injuries in modern dance and other injury case reports. Lauren Jonas trained at the Marin Ballet. She performed with the Milwaukee Ballet, the Oakland Ballet, the Southwest Ballet, and toured the United States with the Moscow Ballet. Since Diablo Ballet's premiere in 1994, Ms. Jonas has recruited dancers from around the world to present the finest in contemporary and classical ballets. A firm believer in the need to stimulate the cultural development of future generations, she co-created the Ballet's PEEK Outreach Program in 1995. Ms. Jonas' awards include the 2005 National Philanthropy Day honor, the 2000 Arts and Culture Commission Award of Contra Costa County, and the1998 Contra Costa County Woman of Achievement Award for the Arts. She is the 2014 recipient of the Contra Costa Commission for Women Contributing to the Arts, Hall of Fame award and was an honoree at the State Assembly's Women's History Month. In 2016, Ms. Jonas was honored at the Djerassi's Women's Residency Program for empowering women as leaders in the field of ballet. She is also the Co-Founder and Director of Diablo Ballet School.  Raymond Tilton received his ballet training at San Elijo Dance Academy and San Francisco Ballet School. In 2010, he danced as an apprentice with the San Francisco Ballet and was promoted to the Company in 2011 dancing in ballets by some of today's most sought-after choreographers. Since joining Diablo Ballet in 2015, Mr. Tilton has performed the lead in numerous ballets including Christopher Wheeldon's Carousal (A Dance) and George Balanchine's Apollo. Mr. Tilton is the School Principal and teacher of Diablo Ballet School. The company also specializes in an online course revolving around the creation of on-site dance education businesses. Mrs. Nolan is the Artistic Director for Studio Go, an on-site dance studio operated across the Southeastern US. With over a decade of instructional experience, Lauren currently teaches ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and creative movement (for 3 different studios) to students ranging from 2-15 years old. In her professional life, Lauren has enjoyed the various roles of Dance Studio Administrator, Choreographer, Production Consultant, Model, and Spokesperson. Her performance background includes the Moscow Ballet of Russia’s production of The Nutcracker, Dance Alive! of Gainesville, FL, and Disney World’s Thanksgiving Parade in Orlando, FL. She has even entertained the United States Army! Lauren held the title of Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen 2006 and consequently competed in Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, which is the “little sister” to the Miss America pageant. There, she performed alongside Joey Fatone of NSYNC and Miss America 2006 Jennifer Berry. Nolan went on to compete in Miss Georgia for six consecutive years. She was named swimsuit and interview winner, top fifteen, top ten, 3rd runner-up, and 1st runner-up to Miss Georgia twice! This past summer Lauren was an official on-stage emcee of the Miss Georgia pageant in Columbus, Georgia. Mrs. Nolan earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Georgia, graduating Cum Laude. Terri Foster knew from a young age she had musical gifts, and now seeks to use her gifts to help other young people develop theirs. Since 2007, Foster has been named artistic/executive director of the Louisville Youth Choir. She directs the Chamber and Aria Choirs at LYC, as well as the all-female Adult Alumni Choir. Under her direction, the Louisville Youth Choir performed with the Moscow Ballet in their U.S. touring production of “The Great Russian Nutcracker.” Conducting since 1993, Foster was formerly the conductor of Bella Voce and the Louisville Children’s Choir, which performed at Carnegie Hall. She also conducted at both public and private schools. She was a voice teacher at Sacred Heart School for the Arts, the Choral Director at Sacred Heart Academy, and has a private voice studio, as well. Her professional vocal career includes performing with the Kentucky Opera, the Stephen Foster Story, community theatre groups, and solo engagements with churches and at private events. Foster is a member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association and the Kentucky American Choral Director’s Association.

Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson joins Graphic Policy Radio for the first time to discuss his brand new upcoming comic book series Warlords of Appalachia being published by BOOM! Studios. Phillip Kennedy Johnson is a musician and writer living in the Washington, DC/Baltimore region. He is the writer of the comic series Last Sons of America, The Lost Boys of the U-Boat Bremen, Killing Marcus, and the upcoming Warlords of Appalachia from BOOM! Studios. He also writes the BAND! cartoon strip for Musicomic.com. Outside of writing, Johnson has a full-time career as a trumpet player, composer, arranger, and teacher. As a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, he regularly tours the United States with The U.S. Army Field Band and the Federal Brass of Washington, DC. Prior to joining the Army Field Band, he toured the world with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He has also performed with the Moscow Ballet, the Dallas Opera, Washington Symphonic Brass, the Lexington Philharmonic, and the Benny Goodman Orchestra. He earned a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, where he served as Teaching Fellow for the Department of Jazz Studies, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Kentucky University.
