It's a reunion at the end of the world as Eric Sipple joins Paul and Arlo for the latest Four-Color Flashback. Paul has invited everyone to The Nice House on the Lake, James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martínez Bueno's 2021-22 DC Black Label series about a group of old friends who have been sequestered from the apocalypse by their alien BFF. The gang discusses the way Tynion captures the feeling of being that friend who only has one other friend in the group, how Bueno uses his naturalistic and painterly style to evoke real horror, what the book says about what it takes to keep a group of adult humans from destroying each other, and much more. Plus, a whole bunch of casting announcements for Avengers: Doomsday and a trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. NEXT: Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can, like starring in the new Disney Plus animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. “The Greatest Pod Reboots DC Comics” is our attempt to explain what we think is not quite optimized in the modern DC Comics universe. Of course, we talk about reimagining the role of “The Trinity” of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman BUT WE ALSO want to make characters like Bronze Tiger, Lady Shiva, and The Question become more important to the fans. DC has so many forgotten characters that need bolstering and so many sections of their universe that need more exploring. We love DC Black Label and Elseworlds but the main universe needs some rejuvenation babay and we have some ideas. Right or wrong we're interesting so fire up the ep baby!! Follow us! Bat-Man: First Knight - Writer - Dan Jurgens, Artist - Mike Perkins, Color Artist - Mike Spicer, Letterer - Simon Bowland Release Date #1 - March 5, 2024 Jace chats with Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins about their DC Black Label project featuring the earliest days of Batman. Dan talks about finding his relatable point to Bat-Man and how he planned out the story to fit into the current cannon if DC decides to go that way. Also Mike discusses the Art Deco influences and how he balanced that with the grittiness of Gotham City in the 1930's. An interesting talk about the colors for the project as well, with a change in the overall feel of the colors early on. Lots to unpack in this one so listen in and be sure to pick up your copy.

Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss out fav bits of nerd news over the past couple of weeks: so much media has been halted due to the strike, but A24 is back in production; we talk Five Nights at Freddys, Deadpool 3 having Cassandra Nova in it, Vanessa Kirby being cast as Sue Storm, and Lin Manuel Miranda starting a new musical of the movie Warriors, which Sis learns is nothing like West Side Story. There was also a fair bit of comic and gaming news this time – Post Malone bought a Magic Card for 2.6 million dollars and some interesting stuff about Hulk Hogan. For bingeing, Big Pops watched the Star Trek: Strange New World musical episode quite a few times and he finished Secret Invasion, which was not his favorite. Sis has been listening to a lot of audio books, like As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of the Princess Bride and Living with Less, she also watched her husband play Ori and the Blind Forest, as well as rewatching Gravity Falls. Then, Pops shares his pull list! This week he introduces us to The Adventures of Superman: John Kent Issue 6 by DC; Doctor Strange Issue 6 by Marvel; as well as Firepower Issue 25 by Image. His new number 1 is The Sacrificers by Image. With his Book of the Week being DC Black Label oversize comic Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor. This week we reviewed the movie Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. We also reviewed the DC comic Nightwing: Leaping into the Light, the trade is available for free with Amazon Prime. "How the carceral state seeks to manipulate and dispose of its rogues, its dregs, its captives and put them to deniable use by intelligence agencies... It would be malpractice of me, for what I cover, if I wasn't interested in that!" - Spencer Ackerman, co-writer of Waller vs Wildstorm for DC Comics and award winning national security journalist. Spencer Ackerman discusses his debut comic, a Year One look at the career of future Suicide Squad boss Amanda Waller. His miniseries, with co-writer Evan Narcisse, artist Jesús Merino and color artist Michael Atiyeh weaves together Wildstorm & DC Comics espionage lore through the lens of Cold War geopolitics--as only they can. First 43 minutes of this episode are spoiler free. Be sure to subscribe to Spencer Ackerman's newsletter https://foreverwars.ghost.io/ where he shares thoughts about this series as well as reporting and essays that "chronicle, investigate and interrogate the continuities, departures and permutations of the War on Terror." That gorgeous cover in the preview is by Jorge Fornes.
