Maria Korp, a 50-year-old mother of two from Melbourne, went missing in February 2005. She was discovered four days later in the boot of her car barely alive, after being strangled and left for dead. Police first suspected her husband, Joe, but it was more complicated than that. As his mistress revealed, he was the one who provided her with the weapon telling her it was the "only way they could be together." Former detective Narelle Fraser was the one who discovered Maria’s body in the boot that day, 20 years ago. It's a case she will never forget. The episode title might sound intense, but the reality is that these kinds of things are happening around us every day, and someone has to handle it. Many times, that someone was former Detective Narelle Fraser (and wow, what a powerhouse she is). She's definitely not what I expected when I sat down to talk with someone who's been at the coalface of some of Australia's most high-profile and horrific criminal cases. We delved deep into her unique and intense 27-year career with Victoria Police, where she shared her experiences in the most challenging units, including the rape, homicide, and missing persons squads. Narelle's combined experience and perspective are nothing short of fascinating as she opens up about facing unimaginable trauma, dealing with the stigma of mental health, and transitioning from being a police detective to a mental health advocate. Her raw honesty and passion for helping others are just a few of the reasons why this episode is a must-listen. So, grab your headphones, get comfy, and join us as we explore Narelle's epic story. You may remember I promised another episode with Rowland Legg this week and I haven't forgotten but here's the thing, due to unforeseen circumstance, Rowland can't make our live show at the Yarraville club on April 8, so our old friend Narelle Fraser has agreed to step in for that one too.You can get your tickets here. That's right, you can see Narelle, live on stage with Emily and I at the Yarraville club, you can ask her questions while she's onstage and if you're lucky, you might even get to take a selfie with her.To celebrate, we bring you an episode of Narelle's own podcast, ‘The Narelle Fraser Interviews', featuring former detective Tim Peck. It's always a treat to hear two detectives chatting and this conversation is very special. It does deal with severe mental health issues and suicide, so please be aware of that before you begin.
