FROM THE ARCHIVES - OUR FAVOURITE UNDERCOVER COP! Keith Banks is one of Queensland's most decorated police officers and his experience as a Tactical Operations Specialist Officer in the eighties. After Keith left deep undercover duty (as told in his bestselling first book - Drugs, Guns and Lies), he continued to seek the adrenaline and rush of the sharp end of policing. Gun to the Head is a retelling of Keith's high-risk operations as part of the Tactical Response Group, to his move into the shadowy world of Criminal Intelligence (where he spent years pursuing outlaw motorcycle gangs). Keith later changed to the Major Crime Squad, again searching for the rush and excitement he continually craved. But life in the fast lane takes a toll, and through Gun to the Head we see all that led to Keith's years of suffering from PTSD. Gun to the Head facts: • To date Keith is the only police officer to have received the prestigious Queensland Police Valour Award medal twice in his career. Both occasions are explored within this book. • This tactical work is what leads to Keith's PTSD. He is now a volunteer Peer Support Officer for Police Veterans Victoria and continues to recover. His goal is to help first responders realise they aren't alone and that recovery is very possible.**WARNING: Graphic and violent discussions of tactical situations, PTSD** keithbanks.com.auFollow the podcastOnemomentpleasepodcast.comIG:@onemomentpleasepodcastFB: One Moment Please

It would be the United States Navy who afforded Plumb the opportunity to live out that dream. After graduating from the Naval Academy, Plumb completed Navy Flight Training and reported to Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego where he flew the first adversarial flights in the development of what would be called The Navy Fighter Weapons School, currently known as “TOP GUN.” The next year, Plumb's squadron the Aardvarks launched on the Aircraft Carrier USS Kitty Hawk with Fighter Squadron 114 to fly the Navy's hottest airplane, the F-4 Phantom Jet. Code named “Plumber,” Charlie Plumb flew 74 successful combat missions over North Vietnam and made over 100 carrier landings. On his 75th mission, just five days before the end of his tour, Plumb was shot down over Hanoi, taken prisoner and spent the next 2,103 days in North Vietnamese Prisoner of War camps. His first prison cell was 8 ft. long and 8 ft. wide. During his nearly six years of captivity, Plumb distinguished himself as a pro in underground communications. He was a great inspiration to all the other POWs and served as chaplain for two years.Following his repatriation, Plumb continued his Navy flying career in Reserve Squadrons where he flew A-4 Sky Hawks, A-7 Corsairs and FA-18 Hornets. His last two commands as a Naval Reservist were on the Aircraft Carrier Corral Sea and at a Fighter Air Wing in California. He retired from the United States Navy with the rank of Captain after 31 years of service.Since his return home, Plumb has captivated more than 5,000 audiences in almost every industry around the world with stories that parallel his POW experience with the challenges of everyday life.To this day, Captain Plumb continues to fly left seat at every opportunity. How can you be blind and not even know it? Stephanie Duesing is an author, speaker, and international advocate for people who have CVI. In January of 2017, she discovered that her straight A honors student, genius artist, and water polo-playing son Sebastian was almost completely blind and no one knew, not even Sebastian himself. He was fifteen and just about to enroll in driver's ed. We were devastated. Terrified for her son's safety, overwhelmed with guilt at not knowing that her own son was blind, and utterly baffled at the impossibility of the situation, she embarked on a journey to find answers. Her book Eyeless Mind: A Memoir About Seeing and Being Seen is the true story of how she, an ordinary music teacher, made a major medical discovery in the field of visual neuroplasticity and the horrific medical malpractice and abuse she experienced trying to get a diagnosis for what turned out to be a common visual impairment. Her son Sebastian is the only person in the world known to process his vision verbally, which means that he sees with words like a bat sees with sound. Dr. Lotfi Merabet, the director of the Laboratory for Visual Neuroplasticity at Schepens Eye Research Institute, associate scientist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, and associate professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, published this paper on Sebastian's use of verbal mediation to process his vision in collaboration with Dr. Barry Kran, the head of optometrics at the New England Eye Low Vision Clinic at the Perkins School for the Blind.Although Sebastian's neuroplastic adaptation to his neurological visual impairment is unique, his actual condition of CVI is common and is poorly understood. Cerebral/cortical visual impairment was identified as the number one cause of visual impairment in the developed world more than ten years ago, and it still doesn't have a diagnostic code within the American medical industry. Dr. Merabet says that Eyeless Mind is "a must-read for any family facing the challenges of raising a child with any disability."It is Stephanie's mission to end the discrimination against people who have CVI. https://www.facebook.com/stephanieduesingauthor?mibextid=ZbWKwLhttps://stephanieduesing.com/Eyeless Mind https://a.co/d/9N22vvuhttps://www.nei.nih.gov/about/news-and-events/news/vision-loss-children-whose-eyesight-may-be-2020-requires-new-diagnostic-and-teaching-strategieshttps://www.optometrytimes.com/view/getting-to-the-heart-of-pediatric-vision-loss-and-blindnesshttps://cviscotland.org/https://www.perkins.org/our-work/cvi/https://www.aph.org/product/vision-and-the-brain-understanding-cerebral-visual-impairment-in-children/ Follow the podcastOnemomentpleasepodcast.comIG:@onemomentpleasepodcastFB: OneMomentPlease

TRIGGER WARNING Dave Morgan left his family in Brisbane in 1969 for Vietnam as part of the 104 Signal Squadron. During his term, he served at several fire support bases and dealt with attacks by the Viet Cong. During one of those attacks, his pit hole collapsed on him, and after he returned to an unsympathetic Australia, he started reliving that experience night after night. Dave tried to live a normal life after he returned from Vietnam. Within months he had his first nightmare along with anxiety and depression. There was nowhere to turn for help as Vietnam veterans were despised by most people, or they were just not interested in them. Most Vietnam vets disappeared into their own world. After military discharge, came heavy drinking and depression. During a 6 month trip to USA/Canada, he had suicidal thoughts until he met up with an American mate that he met in Vietnam and for the first time Dave felt comfortable with life as his American friends helped him with his anger and depression. He returned to Australia with a new outlook on life, got married, was selected on a Bureau Meteorology Technical Officer ( Weather Observer) course, and over the next thirty-three years had 12 postings including Antarctica and raised two children. He hid his PTSD well from all but his family. They moved around Queensland for Dave's job as a Technical Officer but his desire for isolation led him to postings at Giles WA, Macquarie Island and Davis Station. A few hours after he arrived at Casey Station for his next expedition, he slipped on blue ice and sustained a severe head and neck injury forcing a medevac back to the mainland. Now retired, Dave is seeking treatment for his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which Antarctica finally made him acknowledge.Dave's third book – ‘The Invisible Trauma' was published by Big Sky Publishing this year 2022. His two previous books were– ‘Ice Journey' (2010) and ‘My Vietnam War-Scarred Forever' (2014). Chris Burson is an ex army engineer and army load master as well as a former Victorian police officer with experience in the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and as a negotiator. After 11 years as a police officer, with the Police Force enforcing the State of Emergency requirement for Covid– Chris witnessed and experienced public opinion of the police force shift. Disillusioned, conflicted, and unable to see a pathway forward a highly concerned Chris, could simply not work in a job, where as a Police Officer he was now feared by the Public.Chris quit the Force giving up his career, income and budge. Although he had a keen interest in it, Chris does not aspire to Politics naturally, but he felt that someone with credible experience needs to step up into the role and provide the Leadership that he feels is so sorely lacking from the career politicians we see regularly.   Chris is running in the 2022 Victorian State Election. Socials, https://www.instagram.com/chris_burson_avp/https://www.instagram.com/angryvictorians/reels/Follow the podcastOnemomentpleasepodcast.comIG:@onemomentpleasepodcastFB: OneMomentPlease
